Our parents’ existence outside of our home lives is super confusing when we’re young.
Like, we know they go somewhere while we’re at school or daycare. We might even know where, and that they make money there or whatever, but honestly, kids are too wrapped up thinking about Nerf guns and the Tooth Fairy and the next time they’re going to get candy to really pay attention to what their parents are on about.
Which is probably how these 10 wrong – but funny – explanations for what their parents do for a living came to be.
Let’s take a look!
10. So not too far off.
Neither is interesting enough to impress kids.
My dad worked in sales for a frozen food company and travelled a lot. I told people he was a travelling salesman who sold Italian food. People thought he was going door to door with frozen lasagna. He was not! He was going to Walmart headquarters with frozen lasagna.

9. Definitely something true in there.
I’m not sure which part.
I told my 1st grade class that my dad gave money to people who needed it and took it away from people who didn’t want to give it to him. My dad was a politician.

8. I bet he loved that.
I hope he was a confident man.
I use to say my daddy was a hoola hoop neck dance. He did it ONE time but it stuck in my head

7. They sort of sound the same.
I’m on the kid’s side, here.

6. That might be what she does, but it’s not what she does.
Or is it?
I used to say this about my mom! I’d be like “why you do you just talk on the phone and send emails all day?” not realizing how important her job actually was

5. I mean, she does.
She just also sells them.
my mom used to be a real estate agent and i told my teacher she walked into stranger’s houses all the time :))))))

4. Sometimes we don’t even know where their heads are.
To be fair, neither do they.
I thought when I was small, my mom would cut papers at work. She didn’t, and she worked at the downtown branch of a bank. She’s now branch manager

3. That probably seemed like the best job ever.
I know I would like it.
2. I bet she secretly loved that.
I know I would.
My mom is a project manager executive for a construction company and I used to tell people as a kid that she went to construction sites and yelled at people for a living lmfao

1. Kind of like a pirate.
Talk about a dream job.
Could be worse… for years I told people my mom was a smuggler. She was a travel writer who would bring fun things home from her trips, then (after using those things for years) sell some of them.
My mom just about died when she saw THAT assignment come home.— Katherine Lansky (@KatherineLansky) October 24, 2020
Kids are just awesome, don’t you think?
