People Share the Scariest Facts They Know

Whenever I really want to creep myself out, I start to read about the nuclear arsenals that different countries around the world have and how many of them could easily fall into the hands of the wrong folks out there…

That’s the scary stuff for me.

But everyone is different.

What’s the scariest fact you know?

Here’s what folks on AskReddit had to say.

1. Don’t get rabies.

“A lot of people don’t realize rabies is extremely fatal. It’s one of the deadliest diseases to ever be seen on planet earth, deadlier than any plague.

Only a handful of people have ever survived rabies untreated, I believe the number is around 5. And most of them were completely crippled for the rest of their short lives.

Even treatment isn’t very effective.

Don’t ever get rabies.”

2. Not Hollywood.

“That a large number of asteroids and comets that could potentially hit Earth directly have not even been discovered as of yet.

And our ability to actually stop a large object travelling stupidly fast is much worse than depicted in films.”

3. Now that is gross.

“Your tastebuds are actually cilia and are constantly being worn down by the movement of your tongue in your mouth.

If you end up in a coma for long enough, your tongue becomes fuzzy.

Maybe it’s just me, but that adds to the very long list of reasons I never want to be in an extended coma.”

4. Not a comforting thought.

“We’ve come very close to nuclear war and had nuclear accidents many times.

Also, we’ve lost a lot of nukes.

Google “broken arrows” some time.”

5. Sleep is good.

“That you really do need 7-9 hours of sleep every day.

Even at 6 hours, the lack of sleep decreases efficiency, productivity, and increases risk of developing dementia and Alzheimer’s. Furthermore, it weakens the immune system and handicaps the body’s ability to destroy cancer cells, which therefore increases risk of cancers of the breast, colon, ovaries and prostate.

The scary part of it is that you can’t get back all the sleep that you lose out on because “sleep efficiency” decreases, so trying to catch up on the weekends isn’t really making up for what you lost throughout the week. Ironically, those who say “I can sleep when I’m dead” will end up dead quicker because of lack of sleep over time.”

6. Beware of the botfly.

“A botfly can lay an egg in a fraction of a second.

Literally swatting the fly can be enough for it to lay an egg which burrows into your flesh and feeds in there until it hatches and matures enough to fly away and start the cycle again.

It can also happen to an eye. I know this because I’m an eye doctor and I have removed a botfly larva from the INSIDE of an Eyelid (tarsal conjunctival membrane).”

7. Let’s hope not.

“At any second the whole planet could be completely destroyed by x-ray bursts from quasars.

So many other scary things have practical solutions for protecting the human race, but there is no defense humanity could conceivably develop against such a massive amount of energy.

I subscribe to the Star Trek utopian techno future, massive gamma or x-ray burst.. nothing can stop it.. goodbye planet earth.”

8. We’re due.

“Geologist here.

The earth’s magnetic poles (places your compass point to) are moving at an alarming rate.

While they switch (think north compass arrow will point south) every 10,000 years or so, we are over due for a switch… so like happy 2021 y’all.

Also the supervolcano under Yellowstone does technically have the fire power to wipe out much of life on planet earth, but its NOT over due like many people try to claim it is. That’s just fear mongering.

ALSO there was a point in the past during the ice age (I think) were less then 2000 humans were alive. If it would have been modern humans we would have to put ourselves on the endangered species list.”

9. Freaky.

“Surfer’s myelopathy is a non-traumatic injury most often seen in novice surfers, where they tweak their back while trying to get up on the board.

They initially feel pain and and weakness and then they become fully paraplegic. It doesn’t even have to be surfing. Yoga, pilates, or even getting up from laying down.

You just hyperextend your back a little weird one day and bam, you’re in a wheelchair, completely paralyzed from the waist down.”

10. A world of plastic.

“There is plastic everywhere from the highest mountains to the deepest trench in the ocean.

It’s estimated that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean.

And it is bad for us, likely causing fertility problems and reducing pe**s size.”

11. Truth.

“You die 3 times..

You die

Your grave gets visited the last time

The last person who even knows your name dies

You are completely forgotten and gone.”

12. Wow.

“If you commit a m**der in the United States, the chances that you will be arrested and convicted for it is less than 50%.”

13. Keep your eyes open.

“An average person walks past at least 16 m**derers in their lifetime.

And sometimes the m**derer turns out to be someone you grew up with.

One of the most disturbing phone calls I’ve ever gotten was an old friend calling to tell me a mutual buddy had just been arrested for beating his ex-girlfriend to death with a brick.

It’s been fifteen years since we graduated high school and went our separate ways, and I still can’t reconcile the memories of a goofy skater kid with the facts that came out during his trial. How could we not have seen the anger in him?”

What’s the Best Theory About UFOs or Aliens? Here’s What People Said.

When I was in middle school, I read everything I could get my hands on about the supposed UFO incident in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947.

And even though I’m not convinced that UFOs and aliens exist, I still like reading about it and hearing people talk about why they believe.

AskReddit users shared the best theories they’ve heard about UFOs and aliens.

Let’s see what they had to say.

1. Maybe?

“If aliens are on this planet, they are likely using the ocean as a place to hide.

The Nimitz encounter and some of the best actual video evidence we have shows that UFOs and USOs might be the same thing and that they can easily travel through water and air both.

Plus there have been rumors about Lake Baikal in Russia for centuries.

Lake Baikal is one of the deepest lakes on Earth and could absolutely harbor some crazy s**t.”

2. You never know…

“The premise in Lilo & Stitch.

That Earth is a mosquito preserve.”

3. Not going back there.

“Aliens landed once in Africa, got eaten by lions.

Planet now marked as dangerous by the Galactic Feds.”

4. We can’t see them.

“That if any civilization elsewhere in the universe had the technology to reach us, for any reason, they’d be very likely to be also be able to disguise their presence from our detection methods.

They could observe us close up using nanotech, microscopic biological spacecraft etc and we’d never know.”

5. Think about it.

“Consider the fact that the human race is a divided mess of contradictory intents.

We have the scientific community reaching out peacefully, yet if aliens do come into the airspace of any nation, the first to greet them would be the military.

You can imagine what the response of the military would be when a UFO enters forbidden airspace.

Given the declassified government files regarding UFOs, it is quite likely that contact has been attempted in the past and the results were tragic.”

6. I want to believe.

“That “greys” aren’t fully biological, but rather remotely controlled androids, or that they are biological, but their grey appearance is a suit and not the body.

Imagine other lifeforms looking at our astronauts saying “here come the marshmallow cyclops creatures again”.

7. Two theories.

“The best two I’ve heard:

We don’t allow ourselves to contact lost tribes in the Amazon or other wild places. Extraterrestrials may have similar laws on a galactic scale.

We split the atom, but made weapons out of them instead of trying to reach the stars. They leave us alone out of fear that we’ll destroy ourselves if war accidentally breaks out.”

8. In the past…

“There are so many star systems with potentially inhabitable planets out there that the chances that we have been the only life in the universe is extremely slim.

The question, instead, is whether life arising elsewhere has managed to survive destruction and remain alive today such that they might be able to contact us.

That is to say, there have probably been countless civilizations for the past several billion years that simply haven’t made it.”

9. We might not recognize it.

“That life in the universe could be so unrecognizable to us that we wouldn’t even register it as being alien life.

What if life on another world was not carbon based, but another element?

How would we even know what to look for since our definitions and descriptions of life are based on a completely different perspective?’

10. Well, there’s that.

“They came, they saw, they weren’t impressed.”

11. Let’s see what else is out there.

“They visited 250 million years ago.

Saw a planet full of big lizards and labeled us a junky planet not worth revisiting and moved on.”

12. We’re being studied.

“Any species advanced enough to find us wouldn’t “make contact”.

They’d study us the way we study animals. Ideally with minimal interference.

Compare the average “abduction” story to the way we dart large animals, collect data and leave them to wake a bit groggy and confused but unharmed.”

What do you think?

Is it possible that UFOs and aliens exist or is it all a bunch of malarkey?

People Shared Who in Their Life They Miss Most Right Now

I know who I miss the most these days.

I miss all my friends who live in different parts of the country that I haven’t been able to see in quite some time now.

As you know, certain world events have thrown a wrench into plans to go visit people for the past year or so, but we’re almost there, folks!

So keep the faith!

Folks on AskReddit opened up about who they miss most in their lives right now.

1. Tragic.

“My Sister, who passed away in 2014, and my Father, who passed the following year.

They shared a birthday which also happens to be today.

I really miss you both.”

2. Think of them often.

“My two dogs from my first marriage.

My ex-wife got both of them (vet said they couldn’t be separated bc one had crippling anxiety and separating them would be too detrimental and I couldn’t bring myself to fight to separate them knowing this).

Not a day goes by that I don’t think about them.”

3. Everyone back home.

“I’m from Buffalo, but I’ve lived in NYC for the last year or so due to work.

I haven’t been able to see my family back home since I work in a high risk field for COVID.

Last week, I went to a Wegmens upstate and got emotional walking around, because I guess I just sort of compartmentalized how much I miss home.

So, home.”

4. Mike.

“Mike. He was my “punching bag” when life was hard. We worked together in automotive shop.

He was around until right before my first husband and I got married, he quit or got fired. He showed up and got his job a week before my first husband unexpectedly d**d. He was with me through that, my mom dying of pancreatic cancer, being evicted because my landlord didn’t pay his mortgage.

He would walk up to me and say I looked like I wanted to punch someone, and would let me punch him. I didn’t always but sometimes it helped a lot. He also made me laugh, a lot, even when I didn’t want to. He was the person who let me have a small pity party for myself then tell me to get over myself. I would. He knew me better than I knew myself and we were either really good or very awful.

When we would fight, everyone knew and it was over dumb things and last… sometimes for weeks. He d**d a couple years ago.

I believe that was because I would never need him that way again. But I miss him a lot and wish he could see where I’ve gotten from where I was.”

5. Dad.

“My dad. He k**led himself when I was 15.

I don’t even remember the last thing I said to him. I know I was angry from the abuse and him moving out of state when I was 11.

I miss him so much I wish I could tell him I loved him again.”

6. Still miss him.

“My ex husband.

Yes we’re divorced for good reason but it’s been difficult these past few years without him.

I really do miss him, even though we had our problems.

I bet a lot of people feel like I do.”

7. A sad story.

“My niece.

She passed away in 2019 after her first birthday. Long story short my wife and I dont plan on having kids. Her sisters child (my niece through marriage, who I also love) moved across country so we almost never get to see her.

So when my brothers daughter was born we were always around when we could be. Brought my family together a lot. She was such a sweet kid. She didn’t like a lot of people when she was younger, but I was the only one who could always get her to smile. We just had such a great bond and she was in a coma before she passed away.

That week ruined me, and I was at the hospital every moment I could be. Even now writing this it feels like my heart is being ripped out of my chest. I just miss her so much, and I miss life where my brother wasn’t a broken person, he was beyond destroyed.”

8. A voice of hope.

“My grandmother. She was always a voice of real hope and balanced reason, with a big pinch of Southern charm.

I’m ok without her, but a big part of me becoming successful was to validate her impression of me.

She bragged about me all the time.

I became the most deserving of that praise about a year after she passed, and I just wish she could have seen what I’m up to.

She’d have smiled pretty big for her 5 foot self.”

9. Other side of the world.

“My fiancee.

She lives on the other side of the world and I haven’t seen her other than through a phone/computer screen in 6 months.”

10. BFF.

“My dog.

She was my best friend for 14 years and we had to say goodbye in January.”

11. An old friend.

“There’s an old friend I’ve been thinking about lately. We had a lot of adventures together when we were younger and we were both broken is similar ways that made us natural friends and allies.

I was honestly smitten with her at first sight. We met at a local music club and had a lot of fun times together going to local music festivals, open mic nights, and hanging out at diners. Then, we just sort of drifted apart.

I tried to reach out but I got an “It was nice to know you” letter in return and I took the hint. Ha, I was actually pretty embarrassed at the time that I hadn’t realized she just wasn’t into our friendship anymore.

Still, I really miss her. That was all a long time ago, long enough that the person I miss certainly doesn’t exist anymore. She wouldn’t know me, either, anymore than I’d know her. I would never insert myself into her life at this point and I’m not entirely sure I would welcome her if she did so. I’m still a little offended she ghosted me if I’m being honest.

But I do mostly think back on our friendship fondly. When it comes to the people I used to know, she’s the one who most frequently ends up on my mind. She’s been in my mind a lot the last few days and I find myself stupidly wishing I could go back in time for a weekend and just enjoy the moments we used to have.

Some people seem to imprint on you forever. That can be a very mixed bag. Gods’ honest truth, I’d probably choose to forget her if I could. The good outweighed the bad, but maybe not by enough?”

If You Were in a Room With Every Person You Ever Met, Who Would Be the One You’d Look For? Here’s What People Said.

This promises to be an interesting conversation!

If you were in a room with everyone you ever met in your life, who would you look for first?

I think I’d have to say someone in my immediate family. My dad. Or my mom. Or my brother. Or my old dog…

What do you think?

Let’s see what folks on AskReddit had to say about this.

1. Best friend.

“My best friend Gabrielle.

She d**d from cancer when we were 12, it was so hard watching her go.

I named my first born after her, and am best friends with her little sister now. I miss her.”

2. The stranger.

“I met a man on a plane once, sat next to me. He was about my dads age and later I found I was about his daughters age.

We started chatting, and just a few days before I had just cut off contact with my veteran al**holic father. He asked me about myself and I told him I worked in child welfare. He then told me he was a veteran addictions therapist. I don’t even remember how we got on the topic but by the end of the flight he was telling me “tell your dad you love him. Tell him you want him to get sober for you, because you want to see him live a happy and full life.”

It was such a bizarre encounter with what was going on in my life at the time and I’m not religious but maybe divine intervention placed us in that place at that time? I’d look for him to tell him how much that conversation meant to me, that it was the most impactful meeting with a stranger I’ve ever had.”

3. Childhood friend.

“My childhood best friend. We were best friends from 4 to 17.

He battled with Leukemia from 13 to 17. The last year of his life he was constantly in and out of the hospital and was immunocompromised. I got to see him but we had to keep our distance. We were planning on going to the same college for engineering.

I know all he would want to know is if I did it and kept moving. I plan on naming my first born after him. 12 years later and I still think about him most days and he is my driving force to stay positive and keep on pushing.”

4. Dad.

“I lost dad when I was 16. He had brain cancer.

I’m 21 now, finally attending University to do a degree in computer science (which is what he did too, and I bet he never would have thought I would follow in his path!) I’m in a loving relationship with someone who is so smart and interesting that I wish my dad – another loving and interesting human – could meet.

So many memories and events I wish he could be there to see.

I’m just thankful I had him for 16 years.”

5. You miss him.

“My husband.

I would love to see him strong and healthy one last time, as opposed to the sick man he was at the end.

He was a runner, and he had the most beautiful, strong legs.

He was such a good dad.”

6. Role model.

“My AP Calculus teacher, he was the only person in the entire school who noticed I was being ab**ed at home.

He approached me cautiously, never judged or blamed me. He treated me with respect at a time where no other person did, it broke my heart when he d**d a few months later.

I never took the AP Calculus test because I was devastated (he was my teachers years before that so I always looked up to him).”

7. Someone from the past.

“Hailey. I met her when I was 14 at this church thing.

She had had a rough go at life, but was very kind to me. We spent most of it talking on a little boat on the lake / pond. I got her number so we could hang out. I called and her mom cussed me out.

I tried to clear things up with her at church on Sunday, telling her that I wasn’t the one turning her daughter to drugs. They weren’t at church and I never saw her again.

I miss you Hailey, you were very kind and I wished we couldve been better friends.”

8. Sorry about that.

“My prom date. I thought we were going as friends.

I was too young and stupid to realize how much she liked me and put herself out there, just to have me not notice.

Owe her an apology for that.”

9. Army buddy.

“A friend I had while in the Army.

He d**d in 2019 at the age of 34 from cancer. From diagnosis to d**th was about 6 months. He was very private about his illness.

I never new he was sick until he d**d. It’s one of those life events I’ve never been able to “get over” for lack of a better term.”

10. One more talk.

“Lost my grandmother two months ago. It’s been shi**y.

If I could talk to her one more time, I wouldn’t be saying anything she didn’t already know, but I’d still say it.

I guess I just wish I could’ve said goodbye. The only ones who got that chance were my grandfather and mother.”

11. Where did she go?

“That girl who asked for my number, but never called me.

It seemed like fate. I had been mourning the loss of a love one for years at this point, and my feelings basically stopped existing. But then I heard a song in a tv show that made me bawl my eyes out. I decided to embrace the sad feeling, downloaded the song, and went for a walk listening to it on repeat.

On my way back home I was waiting for a light to change green, when a jogger pulled up next to me. The light turned green, and she continued jogging. But when she got across the street, she stopped and waited for me. She motioned for me to take my headphones off, then asked me if I was listening to Agnes Obel.

I said yes, and told her about how I had been emotionally d**d for years until I heard that song. She told me she had the same experience, and first heard the song in the same show that I did!

We chatted for about 15 minutes until we were going separate ways, but not before she asked me for my number. But no happy ending here, it’s been at least 7 years and I’ve since changed my number.”

What Myth About Your Country Is 100% False but People Still Believe in It? People Responded.

There are so many myths and generalizations floating around out there about people from different parts of the world that it’s enough to make a person’s head spin.

And a lot of them aren’t even true!

But still, people believe what they want to believe…until now, that is!

What myth about your country is false but people still believe it?

Here’s how people responded on AskReddit.

1. Not worth it.

“That Welsh people f**k sheep.

Temptation is there but the static shock wouldn’t be worth it.”

2. Not accurate.

“Iceland was not named as part of some conspiracy to keep folks away from a good thing.

The name comes from the fact that early settlers arrived during summer and then suffered horrible losses of livestock and people once winter hit and icebergs were seen filling the fjords. It was more of a warning than anything, that this place sucked.

Greenland on the other hand was probably named as such to make it sound more hospitable.”

3. Kenya.

“Kenyans are all long-distance runners, live in huts, speak no English, and have pet wild animals. Ugh.

So here goes: The long-distance guys are mainly from one community/ tribe called the Kalenjin that’s about 15% of the population. Next, Kenya is still a developing nation with a lot of poverty, but there’s a lot of modern architecture.

Next, the country is rated 18 out of 100 on the English Proficiency Index. And lastly: you can apply for a special (and rarely-granted) permit for your bobcat named Babou, but keeping wildlife is not at all common.

And the Kenya Wildlife Service will conduct regular visits to ensure Babou isn’t being kept in Meowschwitz-like conditions.”

4. Italy.

“No, Italians aren’t all short, black-haired, fat mobsters who wear wine-stained tank tops.

We are loud though…”

5. Zing!

“Romania.

Many people believe we have vampires, but in my 700 years of living here, I haven’t even seen one.

I asked my mates back in the castle and they also haven’t seen any, and they’ve been around for longer than I.”

6. Not the way it is.

“People generally assume that when you’re from Belgium, you are French-speaking.

While a big part of the country is Francophone, the majority population is Flemish (Dutch-speaking).

I blame this on mostly 3 factors:

People mainly visiting Brussels (which is bilingual, but has a Francophone majority)

Americans mostly having been stationed in the French speaking part in WWII

Hercule Poirot.”

7. All kinds of stuff.

“Greece is not only beaches and Islands, we also have beautiful places for the winter.

Many mountains and mainland attractions.

Every corner have something interesting.”

8. The view from Russia.

“The myth is that everyone here is always d**nk on vodka and people all ride bears, play on balalaikas and dance the kazachok and that we’re either dr**k or mad.

While there IS a problem with al**holism, a lot of people don’t drink, especially not vodka.

Funnily enough, bears do appear, but VERY rarely. And the people that ride bears or have them as pets? They’re considered unusual by other Russians.

Balalaika is dead I know one person that plays it and thats it

We dance the kazachok only ironically at this point lol

We’re not always mad. We’re. Just people. With emotions ?

But, ushankas ARE great and warm, so people do wear them – not ALL of them though Also we’re not all superpeople.”

9. Dutch life.

“All of our country is just weed and red districts.

Yes we have these things.. but the Netherlands has lots of culture!”

10. Aim high!

“That the Irish are the biggest d**nks in the world.

Completely false and mean as we’re only the second biggest drinker in the world but we hope to get first place next year.”

11. Oh, Canada!

“Everyone drinks maple syrup, there are moose everywhere and we’re saying “sorry” all the time.”

12. Don’t ruin it for me!

“That we say “shrimp on the barbie”.

It was an ad campaign to appeal to Americans.

It was the most successful tourism campaign still to this day, but literally no one in Australia says that.”

13. Get it straight!

“That Brazil is a huge tropical jungle in which people speak Spanish.

Brazil actually has several major cities and different environments.

São Paulo for instance is a huge sprawling metropolis with as many inhabitants as New York and Los Angeles combined.

In some southern areas of the country it actually snows.

And we were a Portuguese colony, so we speak Portuguese.”

People Share the Self-Diagnosis They Gave Themselves That Was Completely Wrong

A friend of mine constantly thinks he’s sick (and that the world is ending) and so he gets onto WebMD constantly to try to figure out what’s wrong with him.

And guess what? He’s wrong about 99.9999% of the time!

Who would’ve guessed? A guy that doesn’t have any medical training was way off base?

Have you ever given yourself a self-diagnosis that turned out to be totally wrong?

These AskReddit users have and they shared their stories. Let’s check them out.

1. Here’s a surprise.

“I thought I had food poisoning for a month.

Eliminated everything possible from my diet and started probiotics to reset my digestion.

Nothing helped.

Turns out it was a late-life pregnancy.

We’d thought we were past that point. Surprise!”

2. Not brain leakage.

“I had a migraine for six weeks straight.

My mom was sending me articles to convince me I had some sort of brain leakage.

It turns out the migraine was caused by my birth control.”

3. I forgot.

“I get extremely itchy on my belly and groin area.

I always think it’s because I did a bad job rinsing soap off after taking a bath.

It’s because of the oral steroids I take for my allergies.

This has happened FOUR TIMES in the last five years, and I forget EVERY TIME.”

4. Lay off the booze.

“I was for sure positive that I had Crohns Disease.

Literally almost every symptom applied to me.

Nothing. Not a thing was found in either my colonoscopy or upper GI endoscopy.

Yeah. It turns out that I just drink too much.”

5. Panic.

“I went to the hospital 3 different times because I thought I was having a heart attack.

Turns out they were panic attacks each time.

I have meds now to prevent panic attacks.

One doctor was annoyed which I found funny.

Dude, I thought I was dying.

One of those trips involved a volunteer fire department and an ambulance ride because I was camping far from any hospital.”

6. Whoa.

“I thought I was finally having a mental breakdown, turns out Benadryl just makes me have manic episodes.

Not sure why since it should make me sleep instead of pace up and down the hall for 6 hours.”

7. Overreacted.

“When we were going through an airport I noticed a small red rash behind my brother’s ear.

It looked like a spider bite or a mild reaction to something.

My brother, a massive hypochondriac, immediately convinced himself he had both meningitis and brain cancer.

Insisted we see a doctor as soon as we land.

By the time we’d landed the rash had cleared up.

Not the only time he’s done something like that.”

8. Good thing you figured it out.

“When I was a kid I had a little twitch in my eyes and I thought it was Tourette’s (probably because of that one South Park episode).

Turns out I had epilepsy and they were mini seizures.”

9. A scary one.

“When I was 15, my chest started hurting whenever I ate. A lot. For like a week.

So we went down to the local clinic and suggested that I might have acid reflux. They took my word for it instantly and put me on prilosec, didn’t even question that I might not know what I’m talking about.

A week later I was in the emergency room. Dangerously malnourished, so dehydrated my p**s was almost brown, and with chest pains so bad I could barely even LOOK at food. Pancreatitis. Autoimmune pancreatitis.

My immune system was eating away at my pancreas. Not acid reflux.”

10. Lyme disease.

“Had a bout where for around a month I would spike a fever for a few days with sever lethargy which would eventually fade, only to resurge after i started feeling better.

I eventually made the connection that it resurfaced every time I ate red meat (burgers are my weakness). Decided it was a red meat allergy.

Lyme disease. It was actually Lyme disease.”

11. An easy fix.

“I thought I had strep throat, but it was an allergy to a new toothpaste.

The white I saw covering the back of my throat was, upon closer inspection, tons of canker sores / mouth ulcers.

Went to my dentist who confirmed and advised me to change toothpastes.”

12. Scary.

“I was nauseous and vomiting all the time at work and home and just about everywhere else.

I thought I was in liver failure, the first two doctors I saw dismissed me, said it was the flu (can the flu last 6 months?)

The third doctor I went to was skeptical but I demanded a full blood panel, turns out I was wrong, it wasn’t liver failure it was kidney failure.

The doctor was stunned and extremely apologetic.

I totally needed a kidney transplant and it saved my life.”

13. Weird!

“I thought I had psoriasis because I would get these horrid rashes and flaky skin on my stomach.

Kept putting it off because it would just randomly go away sometimes.

Finally went to a dermatologist and turned out that I’m allergic to nickel and she showed me that my belts were causing the irritation with the nickel belt buckles.

So now I buy rubber or plastic belt buckles, the only other options are real silver or gold belt buckles, which seems excessive.”

Okay, now we want to hear from you.

In the comments, tell us about a really bad self-diagnosis you gave yourself.

We can’t wait to hear your stories!

People Admit What Naturally Occurring Bodily Function Bothers Them the Most

We obviously have a lot of naturally occurring bodily functions, but are there some that really bother you?

Whether if it’s from you or other people?

I guess the answer is yes, based on what you’re about to read…

People on AskReddit talked about which naturally occurring bodily functions really bother them.

Let’s get weird!

1. That’s too bad.

“Fight-or-flight.

I have PTSD stemming from childhood trauma so even my roommate stepping heavily on the floor triggers anxiety and hyper-awaredness.”

2. Sounds like thunder.

“My tummy making sounds like I haven’t eaten for 5 years.”

3. It’s burning!

“Runny noses.

That s**t sucks and when you’re sick enough it starts to burn.”

4. Awful.

“Acid reflux.

Nothing like waking up with intense chest pains and a mouth full of stomach acid throw up.”

5. Sucks

“F**k periods and PMS. Good lord what a hassle!

You have to buy special things (pads, tampons, IB profen) and you feel like dog s**t the days immediately preceding and during.

You have to make sure to have a pad or tampon every time you go to the bathroom and it sucks if you forget.

And God forbid any tampon/pad dispensary is actually stocked in a bathroom!”

6. Fat.

“The body storing excess energy in fat cells….that kind of thing needs a cap.

Like, up to 15% of body weight can be fat, any excess beyond that gets flushed out of the system.”

7. What are you dreaming about?

“As a guy, in my opinion, wet dreams.

They’re so annoying, inconvenient and just straight up unwanted.”

8. It’s time again.

“Growing nails.

Mine grow too fast, I have to cut them every 3 days”

9. Not fun.

“Vomiting.

It’s generally activated to evacuate poisons/irritants from the body but the wind up to and the act of…I am grown and will still cry every time.”

10. Uh oh.

“Getting a huge b**er in public.

Like while having to present in front of class or while being in other public places.”

11. It happens.

“Very rarely I choke on my own saliva and my body goes instantly in fight mode to survive.

Coughing like a maniac, adrenalin rush, and my heart goes crazy.

Out of nowhere. This is ridiculous.”

12. The big one.

“Fa**s.

Especially when you can’t let them go and they build up or these quite ones that mark their presence in other ways.”

13. Why is this happening?

“Yawning!

I dont sleep much so it happens several times a minute, it makes my ears pop and my eyes water so I’m basically crying all day and then my eyes get sore from wiping away all the tears.”

14. Make it go away.

“Body hair. I got hair everywhere. Literally.

Shoulders? Check! Toes? Check! Back? Check! And many more places I don’t want to name.

It might have been useful ages ago but now please just let it go away please.”

What bodily function bothers you the most?

Tell us what you think in the comments.

Please and thank you!

People Talk About What They Did Due to Fear of Missing Out (FOMO)

I’m assuming that you probably already know this, but I’m gonna go ahead and say it.

FOMO means “fear of missing out”. Hey, we just want to be clear here…

And there’s a lot of FOMO going around, folks!

Hey, you don’t want to miss out on anything, right?!?!

Folks on AskReddit opened up about things they’ve done because of FOMO.

Let’s see what they had to say.

1. One and done.

“Gambling. I lost $70 and had a lot of fun.

Not sure I wanna lose $70 anytime again soon though.”

2. Chain letters.

“About 25 years ago I believed every chain letter that appeared in my inbox, and religiously sent them along to all my contacts.

In my defense, I was a kid, but still, there’s probably a lot of people from that time that have me blocked for this very reason.”

3. Let’s take a trip.

“Going to South Africa.

I was in school (wild park management) with my best friend. Our year got the offer to go to SA with people from other classes but there was only place for 24 people.

I have never been further away from home then a 6 hour drive and SA is a 12 hour flight away. My thought was: If I don’t go now, I will never ever go.

I went, now I want to go back. But dang the the first time in an airport is stressful.”

4. Did you get lucky?

“Prom. Hated it.

Knew I would.

Glad I went anyway.”

5. Don’t do it!

“Vaping.

I have asthma so after about a week of bronchitis type coughing keeping me up at night I decided that even though I enjoyed it, I’d rather not be dead in a month.”

6. Dive right in.

“Swimming in the deep end of the pool. As a teenager I went to a graduation party at a pool.

The deep end was 12 feet. I wound up even jumping in off the diving board. I’m glad I did it!”

7. Clubbin’.

“Some college roommates took me clubbing.

I have an attitude that as long as something isn’t harmful, I need to force myself to try it at least once (because I’m an introvert, and otherwise I just never do s**t). In this case, I ended up absolutely hating it.

Every part of it was awful. Oh well, at least I can say I gave it a shot.”

8. This is cool.

“Became a music producer for film and TV at 41 years old.

Played music with bands growing up. Became high school media arts teacher and got to practice my skills almost daily. Realized I wanted to see see if I was good enough to make something out of it all. Busted my a** learning as much as I could about the business.

Fast forward 15 months- now partnered with 4 libraries from Toronto to California, collaborated with musicians from 3 different continents, written and produced over 100 songs for film and tv.

Kinda cool trajectory for a year and a half.

Fear Of Missing Out can easily be replaced with Someone’s Gonna Do It, Why Not Me?!”

9. That hurts!

“Paintball at my dad’s girlfriend’s son’s birthday party when I was like 13ish.

I did not know what a cup was since I had never done anything that needed one, and the place we were playing at did not provide anything other than a helmet.

A minute into the round someone shot me in the balls.

I hate paintball.”

10. Daredevil.

“Skydiving.

I went on a road trip with a few friends one time. They all wanted to go skydiving, but I did not, mainly because of the money.

Eventually I decided I could afford it and went. It was one of the most fun experiences of my life.”

11. Not into it.

“Oysters.

My sister-in-law and her husband had friends visiting from another country, so they took them along with my mother-in-law and me to Seattle to some foodie restaurant and one of the appetizers they ordered was oysters on the half shell.

When they noticed I wasn’t eating any they asked and I said I’ve never had them but the idea of raw goo wasn’t very appealing.

So after some convincing on their part, my brother-in-law fixed one up for me. Moral of the story, oysters are still not my jam”

12. Baby steps.

“Yesterday I went to the movies by myself because I really wanted to see the new Demon Slayer movie.

It might not sound like much but I have really bad social anxiety so it was a huge step for me and I’m very proud that.”

Okay, now it’s your turn…

Go ahead and admit what you’ve done before due to FOMO.

Do it in the comments!

8 Secrets That Meteorologists Keep

People like to give meteorologists a lot of grief because of all the times they’re wrong about the weather that’s coming (for better or worse), but listen –  we all know that Mother Nature is fickle, so we should probably give them a break.

If you’re curious what the pressure is like in front of those (troublesome) green screens, here are 8 behind-the-scenes secrets of meteorologists everywhere.

8. They’re under a lot of pressure.

People not only plan their daily lives around the weather forecast, they’re also responsible for warning people – the right people – when a dangerous storm is rolling in.

It’s not something they take lightly, says meteorologist Jacob Wycoff.

“If you miss a severe weather forecast and someone’s out on the ball field and gets stuck, someone could get injured.

It is a great responsibility that we have.”

Basically, there are definitely consequences and they take those seriously.

7. They have a strict dress code.

Because of the green background where maps are projected, on-air meteorologists absolutely cannot wear green, but Jennifer Myers, a Dallas-based meteorologist, says there are other rules, too.

“Distracting prints are a no-no. Cleavage angers viewers over 40 something fierce, so we stay away from that.

There’s no length rule on skirts/dresses but if you wouldn’t wear it to a family event, you probably shouldn’t wear it on TV.

Nothing reflective.

Nothing that makes sound.”

Women, of course, have it tougher because people will criticize what they wear without thinking, and also because their outfits are typically more memorable.

6. But they can wear whatever shoes they want.

Their feet rarely appear on camera, so most go for footwear that’s comfortable enough to stand in for hours at a time.

Occasionally, women meteorologists will use their calves to strap their mics on, too, so it doesn’t make a bulge under a blouse or skirt.

5. They know all the good tricks for staying warm outside.

Stephanie Abrams, co-host of The Weather Channel’s AMHQ, says they’ve developed them out of necessity.

“In the field when I’m covering snow storms, I go to any pharmacy and get those back patches people wear, those heat wraps, and stick them all over my body. Then I put on a wet suit.

When you’re out for as long as we are, that helps you stay dry.

I have to be really hot when I go out for winter storms.”

Those are some pro-tips!

4. Seven-day forecasts are mostly guesses.

Wycoff says you shouldn’t put too much stock in anything that goes beyond 3 days.

“I would say that within three days, meteorologists are about 90 percent accurate.

Then at five days we’re at about 60 percent to 75 percent and then after seven days it becomes a bit more wishy-washy.”

Yeah, that’s probably why people say they aren’t that accurate.

3. Some never master the green screen.

Meteorologists aren’t really standing in front of giant maps; they’re backed by green screens that are used to project images onto them.

They can see TV monitors around the room that reflect what viewers are seeing, which helps them know where to point, but it’s harder than it looks.

Gary England, a weatherman and former chief meteorologist for Oklahoma’s KWTV, says it can kill careers and that he’s “seen people never get used to it.”

2. They’re not fans of social media.

Like everyone else who deals in news and reality these days, meteorologists spend more time than they’d like debunking bogus – and dangerous – forecasts that bounce around online.

Scott Sistek, a meteorologist and weather blogger from Seattle, says people need to stay in their lane.

“People think it’s as easy as reading a chart.

A lot of armchair meteorologists at home can look at a chart and go ok, half an inch of rain.

But we take the public front when it’s wrong.”

I mean… didn’t you think this way? Even a little?

1. They don’t use a teleprompter.

Everything TV meteorologists say in front of the camera is ad-libbed, says Wycoff.

All of it.

“Our scripts are the graphics we create.

Generally speaking we’re using the graphics to talk through our stories, but everything we say is ad-libbed.

Sometimes you can fumble the words you want to say, and sometimes you may miss a beat, but I think what that allows you to do is have a little off-the-cuff moment, which I think the viewers enjoy.”

I feel smarter now, don’t you?

Guy Asks if He Was Wrong to Kick a Co-Worker Out of His Wife’s Baby Shower

This story is really strange…

I understand that we all spend a lot of time at work, but when people start calling themselves someone’s “work wife” or “work husband”, I can see how that would make some folks uncomfortable.

And a man took to Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?” page to ask if he was wrong for the way he treated such a co-worker. Let’s see what happened.

AITA for kicking my coworker out of my wife’s baby shower?

“I (29m) work in a pretty tight workspace. We have about 9 of us in my department and it’s a pretty even split between men and women.

There’s one coworker “Eva”(20f) who started working here a few months back. She’s really good at her job and seems to get along with everyone. We get along well as we work on projects together and are usually in the group of people that are the last to leave most days. I learned some weeks ago that she was calling herself my “work wife”. I knew what the term meant, the sentiment wasn’t shared and I’ve expressed as much.

I don’t think I’ve been rude about it, I just let her know that I’d prefer for her to keep things a bit more professional. There’s no real harm in the term, but for someone who doesn’t understand the joke, it just looks and sounds wrong. I’m also a happily married man, and my coworkers including Eva know this.

I thought I had done a pretty good job nipping things in the bud after our conversation [I no longer heard the jokes from her] so I didn’t think it would be an issue to invite her to my wife’s baby shower. My coworkers are all vaccinated (our job helped us get them) and my wife WFH so there wasn’t much concern for the sickness that shall not be named.

Eva comes in and immediately starts back up with the jokes. “You’re OP’s home wife? Nice to meet you!”, “it’s so nice to see who takes care of my hubby when I send him home!” My wife is a very sweet and patient woman so she just laughed it off, albeit uncomfortably and moved on. However the jokes got worse and wouldn’t let up.

At one point Eva was telling people she would be our baby’s second mom. My wife’s friends and family were annoyed and my wife looked very uncomfortable. I had pretty much had it by then, and took her aside and told her that the jokes weren’t funny and that she could either apologize to my wife right now for being so inconsiderate and gross, or she could just leave. She chose to leave.

Word got around to our coworkers what happened and while they agree that she was acting inappropriately, that I should have let her down a little easier, as it was “obvious she likes you OP”.

Am I really the a**hole for kicking her out?

And here’s what folks on Reddit had to say about the man’s story.

This reader said that the man is not to blame and he needs to make sure human resources at his company knows all about this…just in case…

Another Reddit user said that anyone who “likes” a married co-worker and makes it known is pretty gross.

This person said that the other co-workers are also to blame for their behavior.

No, he shouldn’t be nice to her because of this!

And this Reddit user agreed that the other co-workers seem to be part of the problem.

Finally, this individual made a very good point: if a man acted like this toward a married woman at work, they would definitely be labelled as a creep.

Do you think this guy was out of line?

Or did he do the right thing?

Let us know in the comments! Thanks!
