Puppies Exploring an Empty Aquarium Is the Best Thing You’ll See This Week

We’re all under a lot of stress right now. The next time you start to feel your anxiety levels creep up, we’ve got a temporary (but genius) solution: stop whatever you are doing and watch this video of adorable puppies exploring an aquarium.

I mean, just look at them:

The two scruffy puppies, named Odie and Carmel, are from the Atlanta Humane Society. They were able to take their almost-too-cute-for-words puppy field trip while the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta at a time when the venue was closed to the public.

Of course, they are young puppies, so some people noticed that their attention spans were pretty short:

And they seemed to be way more interested in what was in their handler’s pockets:

But even so, the cuteness factor caused some people to want the aquarium to reconsider its regular rules:

Of course, since the puppies got to explore the aquarium (and sniff what we can only imagine were some truly incredible smells), it was only fair that the shelter let a few kitties explore, too.

The resulting video did not disappoint:

The kitties, wearing matching red collars and tags, were much more interested in life at the aquarium, especially the jellyfish:

Reese Witherspoon Is Giving Teachers Free Dresses From Her Clothing Line

Teachers do wonderful work, a fact that is becoming more and more apparent every day to parents across the country. But their job is often thankless, with low pay and shrinking benefits to boot.

Actress Reese Witherspoon wants to do her part to say thanks to these important figures. Her brand Draper James offered teachers a free dress through its #DJLovesTeachers program. We couldn’t think of a worthier group of people who deserve a little free boost to their wardrobe, either.

“Advocating for the children of the world is no easy task, so I wanted to show teachers a little extra love right now,” Witherspoon said in a statement posted on the brand’s Instagram account.

The giveaway also prompted an outpouring of some pretty serious love for teachers, including some really sweet comments from children of all ages:

Witherspoon’s clothing line features classic American style that’s “steeped in Southern charm and unapologetically pretty.”

The dresses feature bold patterns and color palettes that teachers can wear when school is back in session.

And though a free dress can’t solve all of a teacher’s problems, even a small gesture of appreciation goes a long way:

Teachers are working extra hard right now (and always), so it’s awesome to see them getting some recognition from a big-name celebrity like Witherspoon! A Mailman Delivered the Mail in a Different Costume Every Day to Cheer up Folks on His Route

The people who deliver our mail every day really should get more credit. As the old saying goes: “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.” And it’s true. Postmen and women can often be seen traipsing through deep snow or working through blazing heat and humidity, just to make sure you get your mail.

One postman in the United Kingdom really took things up a notch when he began delivering the mail in a different costume every day to cheer up children who were suddenly spending more time at home.

His name is Jon Matson and he works in Sunderland, a city in the northwestern part of the United Kingdom. Since he participates in a charity event every year, Matson has a closet full of costumes just waiting to be worn.

He says he’s just happy to be able to cheer people up, even for a few minutes.

Matson said,

“It’s been fantastic. It’s been so lovely to be able to bring a smile back to my customers’ faces.

After my first round as dressed as a cheerleader, the next day people were already out waiting before I even got there dressed as Little Bo Peep.”

And we must say, his cheerleader costume is on point:

With his arsenal of costumes, Watson proves you’re never too old to play dress-up and it’s never, ever too late to make someone’s day.

And his costumes are getting even more creative. I mean, look at this!

And that hair! Rapunzel would be jealous!

Even real princesses are taking notice!

Your Kids Can Burn off Some Energy by Playing Jump the River

Are you looking for a new way to keep the kids entertained at home (or, more likely, a way to burn off some of their seemingly boundless energy)? It’s time to bring back the old playground classic, Jump the River.

Don’t remember how to play this physically and mentally stimulating game? We’ll give you a refresher.

All you need are two sticks or something else to create two parallel lines — a handful of rocks placed in a row, two bits of string, sidewalk chalk, tape, etc.

  • Place the sticks a short distance apart from one another (a few feet should do the trick to get started).
  • Then, tell your kids a story about a tumultuous river or a stream of lava that they must safely cross.
  • One by one, point to each child to indicate that it’s his time to jump over the river. They must land safely on the other side, or they’ll get swept away by the current (or whatever fits into your whimsical story!).
  • If someone jumps and fails to get both feet to the other side, they’re eliminated from the game.
  • Keep playing, widening the distance between the sticks each time the entire group has finished jumping.
  • Eventually, when just one boy or girl is left standing, you’ll be able to crown a winner.
  • Be sure to complete your fictional narrative about the brave adventurer who managed to safely jump over the widest river or lava stream and complete their epic journey. And maybe reward the victor with a snack.

You can tailor the game to help kids improve certain skills like balance and agility. For example, you can require kids to land on just one foot while keeping the other in the air, which really tests their balancing abilities. Or, consider jumping off one foot and landing on the other foot. The options are pretty limitless.

Even older kids like to get in on the action, provided the game is challenging enough:

Sometimes the best games are those that don’t require any technology, involve a great yarn and tucker kids out all at the same time. Jump the River does just that, so be sure to add it to your roster of kid-friendly games for the next time your crew gets bored.

You might even find yourself with a burgeoning long jumper on your hands, like this little girl:
