People Share Stories of Rich, Spoiled Brats They Knew

We’ve all dealth with them at some point. Maybe at school, at work, or in public. Kids who are so insanely wealthy that they have no concept of how money works. Want to fly to Europe for the weekend? Hmmmmmm, no can’t do it.

These 15 folks from AskReddit share the weird experiences they had with rich, spoiled kids who were obviously from the other side of town.

1. Clueless

They think it’s weird when people struggle with money.

I used to live in NYC, and knew a guy who came from HUGE money who was a trust fund kid and worked in the fashion industry because he loved it. He had an apartment on Park Avenue, had a driver, etc. He was very nice, but clueless about struggle. Every time he’d hear me say something like “oh yay, another peanut butter sandwich” he’d just tilt his head and say “If you’re hungry why don’t you just order delivery?” or something. He had NO CLUE about things like having twenty dollars to your name for the next five days.

2. Gucci

I went to a really prestigious boarding school for the first two years of high school. Most shocking thing I witnessed was a boy in my freshman year spilling water on a pair of gucci loafers he was wearing, so he goes to his dorm, THROWS THEM OUT, and puts on another pair. They were easily $500+ and this kid was just dripping in money. As a poor kid I was astonished by half the things I saw there on a daily basis.

3. Sky Diving

“You want to fly to Greece in a few weeks with some of our friends to go sky diving?”

“Can’t afford it, thanks though.”

“Don’t worry, I’ll pay for the sky diving.”

Yeah, that’s not what I meant. Not only is the ticket not affordable, I couldn’t eat or do anything the whole time and would lose my shit job for being gone on such short notice, thus making me broke and unable to make rent.

His family is insanely wealthy and he married into more money.

4. Just Ask

Inviting you on an international trip (I’m from the US) and when you say you don’t have money for it, they say “just ask your parents”.

5. “What country is your water from?”

Wife is a flight attendant.

Wife: “What would you like to drink?”

Passenger: “I’ll have a water….wait. Where is your water from?”

Wife: “Uh…What?”

Passenger: “What country is your water from? I only drink water from France.”

6. Working-Class

This might be a dead UK giveaway, but accent.

A classmate who came from a wealthy background once demanded to know why my father would “talk like that” to her parents, like she was offended.. “That” being a working-class Scottish accent.

7. Ha!

Using the word “summer” as a verb.

Crazy Photos of Bizarre Sea Creatures Caught by a Russian Fisherman

Roman Fedortsov, a Russian deep-sea fisherman, terrified and enthralled the world with his instagrams of the bizarre sea creatures he pulls from the depths of the ocean floor.

I think we’re all at least a little bit afraid of what lurks in the ocean, but these animals/aliens are SCARY. Take a look below and see for yourself.

People Recount Their First Kiss Horror Stories

It’s a rite of passage for young people. And old people too I guess, depending on when you started getting busy. Regardless of the age, everyone remembers their first kiss. Maybe it was great. Maybe it was terrible.

Take a look at the 13 AskReddit entries below to see if your experience measures up.

1. Teeth!

I was 14 and she grabbed me and she whacked her teeth against mine. She was pretty embarrassed because it was her first kiss also so we just laughed it off and tried again. I ended up dating that girl for almost 2 years and then she cheated on me.

2. Alaskan Air

Homecoming freshman year. Wore too much makeup and a horrible velvet dress. The hottest guy on the swim team had been flirting with me for weeks. Went outside to his car to say goodbye. He kissed me and I all but melted. Like a bad paperback romance the world went silent all I could feel were his warm lips and the cool alaskan air. When he pulled back he said ” you really need to learn how to do that.” It was horrible…

3. Sleep-Away Camp

Summer sleep-away camp. I was maybe 10 or 11. The boys came over for a dance. One of them danced with me and held my hand all night. I tried to get him to sit with me and “look at the stars.” As soon as he looked up I grabbed him and gave him a peck on the lips. He literally RAN away.

What a f**king tease.

4. Drool

Truth or dare in 7th grade. It was her first kiss too, and we just sort of sloppily drooled all over each other while 6 other kids awkwardly cheered for us. Then the weird kid Nick, ate a caterpillar.

5. Just breathe

…My family and her family have been close for a long time and we’d known each other forever. Our families were on vacation together in Key West, Florida and we were alone one night on a pier. We had both hinted at liking each other for a while and it just happened. I passed out about five seconds after the kiss (the kiss lasted about thirty seconds). I woke up on a park bench with her sitting over me asking if I was okay. She and I are still close (in a more than friendship way) to this day, but sadly due to distance it’s never gone anywhere.

6. Church Dance

It was horrible. I thought you HAD to French kiss and I thought that meant doing all sorts of flipping and twirling motions with my tongue. I was 13 at a church dance and I convinced a girl to be my girlfriend. From there it was 45 seconds of the most distrusting and overbearing tongue assault known to mankind. Within 15 hours she broke up with me. I learned that kissing should be a bit more civil.

7. Watch the nose

It went absolutely horrible. It was a first kiss for both of us. Both of us closed our eyes, he opened his mouth and I didn’t. The result was a tongue up my nose. I do not recommend the experience.

Thrift Store Finds That Might Turn You Green With Envy

I didn’t grow up in a family where thrift stores were much of a thing, although we did love a good garage sale on a summer morning. It wasn’t until recently that I became aware of what truly amazing (and creepy and weird) stuff people find secondhand.

These people are clearly no strangers to the hunt, though, and they’ve come up with some pretty intriguing treasures.

16. Definitely seems like the best place to find cosplay pieces.

Which Direction Is This Swinging Person Facing?

That memorable dress that was different colors for different people. The shoes that were pink or teal, depending on who was looking at them. The voice that was saying Laurel…or was it Yanny?

The internet has had its fair share of viral illusions that whipped people into a frenzy of side-taking.

And here’s the latest: which direction is this person on a swing facing?

The perception puzzle comes to us from Ana, aka Twitter user @esnycuddles, who posted a video of a kid swinging against a snowy landscape – but is he swinging toward the camera, or toward the building?

People on both sides are just absolutely freaking out, as you can see.

There are even diagrams involved.

Me? I say he’s definitely swinging toward the camera, because of the angle of the swingset. I do see both ways, though.

Boom.

But the people who say he/she is swinging away are wrong.

Sorry not sorry.

What do you think? Do you want to argue with me? Sound off in the comments!

A Clever Guy Turns His CPAP Mask into an ‘Alien’ Facehugger

There’s not much that’s funny about having to wear a CPAP mask in order to be able to breathe through a good night’s sleep.

That said, any time you can use your necessary medical equipment to turn your face into an attacking alien facehugger…I mean, you’ve gotta do it. I honestly can’t believe it hasn’t been done before now.

Jared Grey, the genius in question, is an author and self-described Tinker Gnome. He’s also a science fiction fanatic, so when he was thinking about ways to make the inconvenience of sleep apnea more bearable, he came up with the idea of turning the machine into a life-size foam Alien Facehugger replica.

Grey describes the process step-by-step on his social media, and honestly, I think he could also get work on science fiction sets if he’s ever hard up for cash.

A twisted idea who's time has finally come.

Posted by Jared Gray on Friday, April 27, 2018

What’s even funnier is that he’d joked about what he would do if he ever had to have a CPAP, even before being diagnosed with sleep apnea.

“I’ve been joking for years that if I ever ended up needing a CPAP mask, I’d incorporate it into a facehugger. Because obviously…I was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea, and now have my own CPAP torture machine. Seriously, these things are awful and create as much discomfort as they prevent. So I may as well have some fun with this thing while it’s intruding on my life.”

I say that’s a pretty healthy outlook to go along with some pretty amazing creativity.

This is the worst ConCrud I've had in a long time. I can't breathe, I can't see. I've got this lump in my throat and a…

These Facts Are Totally True, but Very Hard to Believe

What we’ve got here are 14 facts that are going to send you straight to Google so you can verify if they are BS or not.

And when you find out we were playing it straight, well, your mind just might be a little bit blown.

14. Time is a strange thing.

As mentioned [here] (http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1rsyio/whats_your_favorite_fun_fact/cdqjw5t), Anne Frank, Martin Luther King Jr. and Barbara Walters were born in the same year.

13. We’d never know what hit us.

Gravity propagates at the speed of light. So if the sun were to suddenly disappear, we would continue orbiting for 8 minutes.

12. Everything’s bigger in Texas.

There are more tigers in Texas than there are in the wild.

11. Just keep that in mind, folks.

Shrimp is called an abomination four times more than homosexuality in the Bible

10. I don’t….know?

And every time you shuffle a deck of cards, it’s likely that the particular ordering of cards has never been arranged before.

9. Harsh.

The current United States flag was designed by then 17 years old Robert G. Heft, as part of a school project. He received a grade of B-

8. Unsurprising, really.

Fortune cookies were invented in America and are seen in China as an american symbol.

7. I feel like this has happened to me more than once.

If there’re 23 people in a room, there’s a 50% chance two of them share a birthday. edit: google “birthday paradox” for more information.

6. It just SEEMS wrong, but it’s not.

Humanity is less violent now than it has ever been, which is a steady trend through history.

5. Those long-suffering Cubbies (no more!)

The last time the Cubs won a World Series: Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and New Mexico were not yet states The Ottoman Empire still existed The Titanic had not been built yet Prohibition had not occurred yet The NBA, NHL, and NFL did not exist yet Radio and Television did not exist…

4. He has more subscribers than there are people in his home country.

A swedish guy who screams at video games is the most popular Youtuber in the world.

Edit: For the people who are apparently too lazy to read the child comments, I’m talking about Pewdiepie.

3. Spoiler alert: it’s kind of impossible.

There are three hundred billion stars in the Milky Way.

There are AT LEAST one hundred billion galaxies in the KNOWN universe. Using 300bn as an average for the number of stars per galaxies, that makes 3e22 stars in the observed universe.

That’s 30,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars. Try to wrap your head around how unimaginably big that is.

2. The mental images…

Blue whales don’t have enough blood in their body to get an erection, they would pass out from lack of blood in the brain, to compensate female blue whale vaginas are the size of an average living room

1. Everyone who ever ruled Europe was cousins.

King Edward V, Tsar Nicholas II and Kaiser Wilheim II (the monarchs of England, Russia and Germany during the first world war) were cousins. Edward was first cousins with the other two, who were second cousins with each other.

I Googled so hard, y’all, and now I kind of don’t know what to do with myself!

Do you keep any of these on your hip for parties? Share them with us in the comments!

The Chainsaw Was Originally Invented to Assist with Difficult Childbirths

If you thought that c-sections were awful and take weeks to recover from, well…you’re right.

But you should also count yourself lucky. In the (not as far back as you’d think) past, your doctor or midwife might have whipped out a chainsaw if an emergency arose during labor.

Basically, the chainsaw is so good at cutting through wood and stuff because it was originally designed to be able to easily slice through flesh and bone.

Chainsaws were invented by two Scottish surgeons, John Aitken and James Jeffray, who were looking for a “more humane” way to widen the birth canal when a baby was breach or became otherwise lodged in the birth canal.

Yeah. Instead of cutting open your abdomen to remove a dangerously stuck infant (like a modern C-section), they used to just stick a knife into your pelvis and start “widening” it so the baby could slip free.

And, as if giving birth wasn’t terrifying and painful enough already, the chainsaw was invented in the 18th century – prior to the development of a little thing called anesthesia.

The chainsaw was supposed to be a faster, less painful (somehow) option for a procedure called a symphysiotomy.

Neither the procedure nor the chainsaw is today used in hospitals – in maternity wards or elsewhere – but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it happen on an upcoming season of American Horror Story.

Because just thinking about it makes me want to scream.

The Magnetic North Pole of Earth Is Moving Toward Russia

Our north pole has been traveling east from the Canadian Arctic to Russia. At a fast pace too, which is causing some concern on how the move will affect navigation and GPS systems.

Lately, the pace at which the pole is moving has been measured at 25 miles a year, or 40 kilometers. In years past, however, the slide was 34 miles per year, or 55 kilometers.

What’s causing a move like this?

Historically, the Earth’s magnetic poles have been known to stray – and even flip from one end of the earth to the other. The poles are there due to Earth’s molten core which moves around as the Earth spins.

Convection currents of molten metal cause huge, moving electric currents, which themselves form a magnetic field around the Earth. This field protects us all from the radiation in solar winds and charged particles coming from the sun.

At this time, the North and South Poles match the magnetic poles, but that hasn’t always been the case. In the Earth’s history, the poles have flipped several times, bringing the magnetic South Pole to the true North Pole and magnetic North Pole to the true south – and then switched back. Scientists have been able to tell not only that this has happened, but also when this has happened by examining rocks that, when they were molten, marked the location of magnetic north.

Recently, the National Centers for Environmental Information and the British Geological Survey updated the 2020 World Magnetic Model (WMM) with information on how the magnetic north pole has changed and how to anticipate where it’s headed in 5 years. Officially, the North Pole has now crossed the prime meridian.

The WMM is essential for world navigation. The military, geolocation apps and other navigation systems all rely on the model for the official location of the magnetic north pole.

What about another pole reversal? Well, that’s difficult to predict. According to geological record, the range in time between magnetic field reversals is huge–between 100,000 years to every 50 million years. With that kind of range and the fact that activity in the Earth’s core is hard to measure, the only thing researchers can tell us is that the magnetic north pole is weakening by 10 to 15 percent.

But wouldn’t a pole reversal be weird?
