This Guy Used a Weird “DIY” Lifehack to Outsmart a Mechanic

It’s pretty much a meme at this point that any time you think you’re doing OK in life or you finally have some money saved, that’s when car problems strike and ruin absolutely everything. It’s a huge problem for me, a mechanically inept person.

My grandfather knows absolutely everything about cars, my dad knows some things, I know nothing. Following this pattern I assume my future son will not even understand what a car is.

Mechanical issues are of course exacerbated by unscrupulous mechanics who know that you can’t fix the problem on your own and will come up with all sorts of ways to trap you into paying way too much for a process that’s actually pretty simple. I need a new headlight installed. How long does that take? 10 minutes? 4 hours? I have no idea. I’m at the mercy of the guy quoting me a price.

Unless, of course, I come up with an ingenious plan, like this Tumblr user did.

Here’s a Defense of the English Language as Told by a Very Passionate Tumblr Blog

People who learn English as a second language will often tell you that it’s not exactly easy. There are a lot of things about English that just don’t make sense at all, especially when you’ve grown up speaking something else.

However, the same can be said for other languages… it’s just really fun to make fun of English since it’s still globally a very powerful language.

One person recently took to Tumblr to offer up a quick defense of English. It’s a great thing to keep in your back pocket if you feel like you might ever need it.

For starters, there are a few things about English that actually make it kind of easy. Take tone, for example: unlike Cantonese, the meaning of words in English don’t change based on how you say them.

English also doesn’t concern itself with whether or not “they” is male or female, unlike Spanish and French.

As someone who has been trying to learn both for years, I can confirm that this can be mighty confusing.

And unlike Arabic, English doesn’t have a separate tense for speaking to two people at the same time.

While the tone of this post is harsh, the person manages to get their point across: English is just as tricky as any other language, but possibly not any more so.

Of course, people had a lot to say about all of this. Mostly, they were surprised that the original poster didn’t really explain just how confusing some languages can be.

This Woman Set Tumblr Aflame After Claiming That Fish Aren’t Animals

Have you ever witnessed one of those conversations online that you just know is going to turn into a big mess?

That’s exactly what this conversation is like. One woman decided to let Tumblr know that vegans can eat fish because she doesn’t believe that fish are animals.

As you can imagine, this set off a veritable firestorm of debate.

It starts off with a bang: why are all these vegans eating salmon? Veganism is a lifestyle choice that requires adoptees to avoid animal products in every part of their life, whenever possible.

The first person correctly pointed out that vegans probably aren’t eating salmon… since fish are animals.

But the original commenter decides to double down.

It’s not really a question: fish are animals. I repeat: fish are animals.

It’s helpful that another person pointed out that also… eating salmon doesn’t inherently give you salmonella.

One person seems to believe that maybe the woman had her lifestyle choice words wrong. Perhaps she meant pescatarian?

The original poster is uninterested in debating the actual term, because she is way more focused on proving her erroneous beliefs about fish.
