This Guy Refutes That the Gender Pay Gap Is a Myth and His Video Went Viral

People don’t really like to talk about money. Whether because we think it’s rude or because we don’t understand it, as a species, we’re not super comfortable with it.

But most women who have had a conversation with a male coworker on the taboo subject of salary can verify that the gender pay gap is very real. Still, sometimes I guess the world needs a man to prove it.

Like many head-scratching things, the gender pay gap has been turned into a political issue.

So it came as little surprise recently when Dennis Prager, a radio personality and socially conservative political commentator popped off about the issue, describing it as a myth.

He posted his patronizing bad take on TikTok, but the backlash was so intense that he has since deleted his account.

One response came from James Ray, who uses his account @jamesgetspolitical and his economics degree to combat misinformation on social and political issues.

In his video, which has almost 2 million views and has been shared more than 10 thousand times, James quickly and eloquently explains two reasons the employers still hire men, despite them costing more than women: customer bias and hiring manager bias.

Both often lead to women losing out on jobs to men, or to being paid less when they do land the job.

When interviewed by Bored Panda James explained his video response to Praeger.

“He spews very hateful unfounded rhetoric to his audience and I think the disinformation and overall problematic nature of his content have made me dislike him considerably!”

The artful take-down was not the only one on James’s account, either.

A TikTok User Asked for Examples of Men Who Are Insecure, and the Video Went Viral

We all know some guys who have to prove how masculine they are.

There are the old jokes about the size of his car proving that he’s compensating for something.

American men especially are brought up to perceive a very narrowly defined definition of masculinity as “right.”

Recently, a TikTok user challenged those assumptions when he asked his followers what their biggest indicator was for a man feeling insecure in his masculinity.

He also provided his own answer.

“I’ll go first. As soon as a man refers to himself as an ‘alpha,’ …”

In many circles, this is referred to as toxic masculinity.

Buzzfeed explains:

According to dictionary.com, toxic masculinity is defined as “a cultural concept of manliness that glorifies stoicism, strength, virility, and dominance, and that is socially maladaptive or harmful to mental health.”

Here are some of the top responses that @richtiktoxic, a photographer and environmentalist, received:

Mal: when they lift their cars/truck unnecessarily high to make their vehicle look bigger (laughing face with crying eyes). RichTikToxic: THIS.

A lot of the responses shared similar themes.

One indicator was an obsession with money:

Some features just look good on people, regardless of their gender.

Nice eyes, a full head of hair, a great set of abs, a funny personality, a caring nature.

1. This is very true.

Epic Twitter Thread Reverses the Roles of Women and Men Throughout History. This Is a Must-Read

Twitter is a place full of strange and interesting things. While it’s usually a place for random, funny thoughts and memes, there are also threads like this one that actually make you think.

Author A.R. Moxon recently posted an epic Twitter thread where he laid out an alternate history and future where the roles of men and women have been reversed. Moxon’s thread makes it abundantly clear that although women have made a lot of headway in recent years, we still have a long way to go and history has been one-sided in terms of power, to say the least.

Here’s the tweet that started the conversation. Let it sink in…

45 male presidents in a row…wrap your head around that. And think of how it must feel to be on the other side and be accused of “identity politics” for simply wanting to have your voice heard.

Moxon continued with his conversation.

There’s no doubt there’s a whole lot of controversy surrounding the Supreme Court right now. How will it look in the next several years? What laws will be passed?

Think about this: women in the U.S. have had the privilege to vote FOR LESS THAN 100 YEARS. Pretty hard to believe when you think about it. When both of my grandmothers were born, women were not allowed to vote. Sobering.

Would that be ok? I think we all know the answer to that question.

Women Share Stories of Times Complete Strangers Saved The Day

Many times in society, throughout the world, women feel as though they are unsafe when they’re walking anywhere alone.

With countless stories in the media, such as those part of the #MeToo and Times Up movements, have shined a light onto sexual assault and harassment–we truly get a sense of the dangers some women have when around men who can’t take “no for an answer.” If you ask any woman, anywhere in the world, if they’ve ever felt unsafe when walking alone–I guarantee you they’ll have a story (or five) of times they were followed, cat-called, or harassed by a man. But, instead of sharing stories that make you fear for your own safety, women have begun sharing stories of how women–mostly complete strangers–have saved them, helped them, or kept them away from attackers and stalkers in public.

Facebook user Alexis Tyler shared three Tumblr posts about women who had strangers help them out when they were being followed or harassed.

Each story shows the bravery of the women who saw another woman in danger and the gratefulness of the women who received protection from someone they had never even met before.

People on Facebook felt inspired to share their own stories of strangers who had saved them and their thankfulness.

Ok, so I’m not trying to brag or anything, but I actually did know what a speculum was, as well as what it’s used for. I’m honestly not sure why I know this. I’ve never seen one in person and I DAMN sure haven’t seen one in use.

Most guys, however, have no clue what this is, which might be the reason that someone came up with the genius idea to post this question on Facebook.
