People Discuss What It Would Take to Make Them 100% Happy in Life

This is a difficult question for any person to answer: what would it take to make you 100% happy.

I think some folks out there don’t even believe that a person can be 100% happy…but I guess it all depends on the individual…

Some people want big, grand things in their lives and others want simplicity

Here’s what folks on AskReddit had to say about the matter.

1. Very lonely.

“A friend or, God forbid, a girlfriend.

I’ve been out of college several years now and I’ve been friendless ever since. Hard to be excited about something and have nobody to tell.”

2. All they’ve ever wanted.

“I think finding someone who genuinely loves me for who I am and wants a present and future with me.

That’s all I’ve ever really wanted.”

3. Needing a break.

“Man if I had childcare in this moment I would totally lay down for like 2 hours for a nap!

But I. I am the childcare.”

4. Money issues.

“Being debt-free.

Student loans make up at least 80% of my stress…”

5. A big loss.

“Having my dog. His final vet visit was a couple hours ago.

I’m out of country working so I had to say my goodbyes when I left after Christmas. It’s very difficult by myself.

He was a great pet. He picked our family at 8 weeks. He was well loved and looked after.

His ashes will be joining me when it’s my turn.”

6. Like it used to be.

“My wife to be well again. If she felt better and we could hang out like we used to, I honestly feel like my life would be perfect.”

7. This sounds nice.

“A cabin in the woods, near a river. Solid and beautiful. Lots of windows, and an incredible view. It’ll smell like cedar and pipe tobacco. A simple wood shop, and maybe a small painting studio. A large wood-burning fireplace. A cozy kitchen; nothing fancy.

Really good coffee in mismatched mugs. Plenty of bourbon and wine. Loooots of books, and enough time to actually read them. Walks in the woods with my wife and dog. Fishing, canoeing, and shore lunches. Watching wildlife. Drawing and painting. A nice little town nearby (but just far enough away) with a good bookstore, an old diner, and a lively tavern (need a spot to watch those Packers games).

A well-seasoned and reliable old truck to get us there and back. Long days with my wife, listening to music (on vinyl), laughing, cooking, making love. Never feeling bored, never feeling rushed. Time enough to be able to just be us, and do all those things we never seem to get around to doing.”

8. Three things.

“A cure for writers block, a long attention span, and 3 extra inches in height.”

9. Best wishes to you!

“My daughter being old enough so I can take her home, she was born at 32 weeks, she might be coming home in a week :)!”

10. Need to recapture that.

“To just have energy and enthusiasm again.

It feels like I’ve had very little energy for anything for almost 10 years now. I feel like a passive observer in my life most of the time. Im doing what I’m supposed to, but any enjoyment has long since died.”

11. These are good goals.

“To finish college ( pretty soon), get my optometry degree and become an optometrist in the rural and underserved areas in US.

Also, a significant other who will be there beside me.”

12. Wouldn’t this be nice for everyone?

“Affordable healthcare forreal. I have to wait until I can save up enough to see the ENT again.. last run it went : see specialist, go to imaging center, back to specialist for results (that can be relayed via phone.

Cost $165 just to have him hand me a piece of paper), then to the surgical center. Just to find out what he thought was causing my eustachian tube issues, isn’t the problem. Back to square fucking one with $0.. America, please get your shit together.

I work 50 hours a week, I bust my ass, I haven’t been without a job since I was 15.. I’m in my thirties. At this rate I won’t see 60 because it’ll cost too much to fucking live that long”

13. In a lot of pain.

“No more pain.

I want to be able to check my own mail, take a walk out back, do groceries without using the go cart. Walk without using a cane. Be out of bed for most of the day.

Hell, I’d be 100% happy with 70% less pain.”

14. Here’s the list.

“8-9 hours of sleep every night, at least 4 very good friends and a knowledge of who everyone around me is, being really smart and having a secure job as a marine biologist studying the deep ocean. Also a happy family with kids who I take to get cookies on Fridays.”

15. For my son.

“My son’s doctor to call me and say he is completely cured and will grow up normal and healthy, he can stop any medicine he currently takes (about 16 pills a day for a 2 year old is a lot) and we never have to go back to the doctor.”

16. Go for it!

“Being able to ask out a woman i am attracted to instead of always chickening out.”

17. Another chance.

“Being pregnant again, with the 100% assurance that this time the baby will live.”

18. The good stuff.

“Get hired for a really awesome part time job.

Find a gym buddy I connect with and start exercising again.

Make strides every week in therapy and in managing my addictions.

Meet a great girl who I have tons of chemistry with.

My mom getting really good news about her medical condition and her recovering as close to 100% as possible.

Meeting new friends with healthy habits.”

19. Something to think about.

“Happiness is an inside Job.

I spent many years chasing “the dream.” Dream job, SO, toys, etc. It’s all just stuff. Only when I almost lost everything did I finally wake up and realize what is truly important in this life. Right now.

What are you doing right now to make your life better? No one else is/can make you happy, truly happy. Tomorrow is a wish and yesterday is gone. If you try and live in those two places you are pissing all-over today.”

20. I think a lot of people feel this way.

“Start earning enough money to not be stressed, and to be free of any mental health issues.”

Everyone is different, and that’s one of the things that makes living in the crazy world very interesting!

What about you?

What would make you a completely happy person?

Please share your thoughts with us in the comments.

We’d love to hear from you!

A Writer Ranted About Working From Home in Sweatpants and Got Roasted by Twitter

You know all too well that one of the best aspects of working from home is the dress code. There is none!

Getting up to make my morning coffee in some basketball shorts and a t-shirt before I sit down at the computer makes working from home a breeze. After all, it’s a lot better than waking up at the crack of dawn to iron a dress shirt and pants.

Not everyone is a fan of the casual work-from-home dress code. In fact, LA Times writer Adam Tschorn openly criticized all of us who don sweatpants at our home office.

But there’s strength in numbers. And my fellow sweatpants-adorning, hard-working home folk have risen up and battled back against Tschorn and his senseless, scathing criticism. After all, should we really be listening to fashion advice from a guy whose profile picture reveals someone who has no sense of style?

Step right up, folks. Who’s ready to take a ride on the merry-go-round with Mr. Tschorn?

Now that one was a little harsh, but I get the point. Let us make a living from home in whatever pants we want.

Apparently Mr. Tschorn’s own newspaper can’t even back the internet bully. Though, I’m not sure cheetah print should be considered professional work attire, either.

Fashion bloggers and I don’t have a ton in common, but we can both agree that Mr. Tschorn’s cruel words have no place in our society. Everyone’s already feeling down being stuck at home, so what’s wrong with getting work done in the most comfortable pants known to man?

Boom. Even the dictionary backs us up on our fashion choice. And you can’t argue with a book that only spits facts. Take that, Mr. Tschorn.

Are you part of the sweatpants revolution? How do you dress differently when working from home compared to a traditional office setting?

Let us know about your fashion thoughts in the comments below!

People Share the Unique Things They Have in Their Homes

What’s the rarest thing you have in your house?

I’m talking about something you have in your home that most people definitely don’t have in theirs…

It could be worth a lot of money, or maybe it’s something that is priceless only to you.

AskReddit users opened up and talked about the rare items they own.

Enjoy!

1. He is missed.

“I got an autograph from Chef Anthony Bourdain.

His was just about the only celebrity death that had a real impact on me.”

2. Memories from my grandfather.

“I have a large storage container filled to the top with McDonald’s toys. Before my grandfather passed away he would go and get a coffee every morning and would get me a toy from there when he got a coffee.

I’ve kept them ever since. I can bring myself to part with them. I have full collections of the Monsters Inc toys, the Lilo and Stitch toys, Winnie the Pooh, Beanie Babies, etc. 90’s and early 2000’s toys. That man was a saint, and my hero.”

3. Talkin’ about money.

“An uncut currency sheet.

It is 50 1 dollar bills that were never cut when the came out of the US Mint.”

4. That is unique.

“8 different copies of the secret garden by Frances Burnett.

It is not my favorite book. I first recieved and read a copy of it when I was 9, so it is a very sentimental book for me.

I have so many copies because I enjoy collecting the more beautiful art styles that it gets published in. As a classic it gets republished very frequently so to prevent me from just buying way too many copies I re-read the book everytime I buy a new one.”

5. How did that happen?

“A balloon that was inflated a couple days before I was born. 17 years later and it has barely lost any air.”

6. Now, that’s old!

“An antique ship anchor from the year 1597.

Dredged up from The river Maas.

Its not a huge anchor from a full sized manowar or something. Those were the size of a house. I think this was from a fishing vessel or a small trade vessel for river trade here in the Netherlands.

Not found by me unfortunately but I bought it from the man who did. Found in the ’70s.

The date it was made is on the anchor. And the mark on it is a kind of “house mark” these marks were used by rich but not noble families, no cost of arms, to mark stuff that was theirs.

Around 60 kg but it’s a guess.

Height: 124 CM Width: 81 CM.”

7. That’s…different.

“A collection of human teeth stuck on a candle.”

8. A piece of history.

“A piece of the Berlin wall.

I have a chunk on my dresser. I got for my mom when we visited Germany last summer because she told me stories of when she lived there, touching the wall was a quick way to get shot. I wanted her to be able to touch the wall and not get shot, so I brought some wall home for her!”

9. Sounds like a classy dwelling.

“A neon sign that says Fuck.

And I’ve got a small version of the leg lamp from A Christmas Story.”

10. That’s rare, indeed.

“A have a custom made Harry Potter wand.

I worked on the Fantastic Beasts 2 film (part of the Harry Potter Universe) and was gifted it by the  director and producer. It has my name on it too.”

11. Family heirloom.

“An opal ring that has been passed down in my family for generations.”

12. All kinds of stuff.

“I’ve probably got quite a few, I have a few rather large lumps of obsidian, an alligator’s head, some nearly 100 year old books too.

Two music boxes made to look like San Francisco cable cars, also got an Albert Einstein bobble head (like the ones from Night at the Museum 2).”

13. Gettin’ wild!

“My 80+ Hawaiian shirt collection.

Yea, I’m boring like that.”

14. Signed and all…

“I’ve got a book signed by Cornelius Vanderbilt. I bought it at a used book store for a dollar because it looked cool. Flipped through the first few pages and there it was! It is an inscription from him to his advisor, given as a gift.

Had it authenticated by a Vanderbilt expert (I lived near one of their mansions at the time, and there were several historical sites and museums there with people who knew more than I did)

So that was a fun find.”

15. House of horrors.

“The foot from a real human skeleton. Six human incisors. A mummified bobcat heart. An alligator skull. A muskdeer skull. A human shoulder blade.

A light-up, car-top “funeral” sign, like the one on Joe Bob Briggs fridge, a water buffalo skull, a Cthulhu glow in the dark bank.

I really, really like weird shit.”

16. I’d love to read those.

“Letters written by my great-great-grandfather to his wife in 1917, while he was POW in Russia as part of Austro-Hungarian army at the end of WWI.”

17. Snap into a Slim Jim!

“I have a Macho Man Randy Savage head that was used as a Slim Jim display down at work.

We got an extra one and I asked for it so now he just sits at my desk arms folded staring menacingly, holding pens in the part the Slim Jim would go.”

18. Very strange…

“I have about 1,500 empty perfume bottles.

My girlfriend collects them. I get anxiety walking past them.”

19. This has to be one-of-a-kind.

“A copy of the Quran signed by porn star Ron Jeremy.

I call it the Quran Jeremy.”

20. It still works?!?!

“A working ipod from 2004.”

I’d like to get my hands on some of those items!

How about you?

What do you have in your home that is really rare?

Please share with us in the comments!

Lawyers Talk About Worst Way They’ve Seen People Get Screwed Over in Court

I really hope I never get in trouble with the law or have to go to court for any reason whatsoever because the whole justice system pretty much terrifies me and I don’t want to have anything to do with it.

So far, so good on my end…

But the fact is that a lot of people get royally screwed over in court. Sometimes it was their fault, sometimes it wasn’t

Here are some interesting answers from AskReddit.

1. You blew it!

“My client screwed them-self.

I’m doing landlord tenant stuff and my client was facing eviction over non-payment, but the client was withholding rent payments because of habitability issues in the apartment, no heat, high lead levels, vermin. This is gonna be an easy win for me.

Told my client continually to make sure they don’t spend the money, keep it but don’t spend it. Because if you show the judge you still have the money it looks real good for you in terms of making the judge believe that you’re withholding for good reasons.

We get up in front of the judge, landlord doesn’t have an attorney so I’m dancing inside, there’s no way I can lose.

I make my arguments and the landlord makes his.

Judge asks my client if they still have the money.

Client goes “nah I blew that shit at the casino last week”.”

2. That was fast.

“My wife is the lawyer.

Info: When children reach the age of majority if they do not continue studying and start working, it is not necessary to pay alimony.

Info: My wife’s client found a new lover, which unleashed the wrath of the ex-wife, who started asking for more alimony for her children.

Well to win the case, it was necessary to prove that the children were working, but they could not get any proof of it.

There was not much chance of winning, but they still went to court hoping that with the interrogations they could find information that would put them in evidence.

On the day of the trial the children did not go, only the mother and her lawyer were present.

Judge: Madam, tell me why your children could not come.

Mom: they could not get permission at work.

Judge:…

Lawyer:…

Mom: …

Another few seconds of silence.

Judge: well, that was fast.”

3. The truck is yours.

“I had a client who was trying to get away from an abusive ex and filed for a restraining order. He shows up to the final hearing and is making a big fuss about a truck that they bought during their marriage. He said it was just his, and she had no rights to it because their marriage was void.

I asked him on cross examination what he meant by that, and he said that he had already been married in another state when he married my client. He said that my client had no idea, but that it means their marriage is invalid and the truck was all his.

Not only is that legally inaccurate, the transcript of the hearing was promptly turned over to the police, who were actively investigating him for bigamy.

Oh, and the judge gave my client the truck along with a two year no-contact order.”

4. Major facepalm.

“I’m a lawyer, saw someone screw himself.

I work as a public servant in a criminal law judge’s office, and since I have a law degree I don’t normally do administrative work, though I get to be with the judge in some of the hearings.

Last month we had a huge drug trafficking case (I’m talking about 20 or more people involved, months of investigation, undercover agents, videos, audio, the whole ordeal). Hearing lasted three days.

Anyway when it was time for one of the defendants to be on the stand so the prosecutor could read the charges he was accusing him of (He was pleading not guilty, as he very loudly stated from the majority of the hearing, up until my boss -the judge- told him to shut up or he would be admonished, to which he replied “what are you gonna do, arrest me?” which, to be honest, was actually a bit funny).

The prosecutor, as part of the facts of his case, told him that “he was being accussed of selling, traficking and carrying x amount of x drugs, with the base of his operation being his house, where he lived with his partner” (Mind you, said partner wasn’t even in the hearing, she wasn’t arrested or anything as there was nothing tying her to the case) he said “wait up, I was the one selling the drugs, she didn’t do anything”.

His lawyer (a state assigned public lawyer) facepalmed so hard it’s actually recorded in the audio of the hearing.

He still pleaded not guilty.”

5. Happens more than you’d think.

“A witness for the plaintiff in a civil suit, who was a co-worker of the plaintiff testified very strongly against the company and in favor of the plaintiff. I questioned her about bias toward the plaintiff, if they knew eachother well, were friends, etc. She said, no just friendly co-workers, “work friends” at best. I pinned her to it.

When I got a chance to cross-examine the plaintiff, she had no choice but to burn her witnesses credibility, because no only were they very close friends, but they had become sisters in law just a few years before. (no, they did not have the same last name or anything, but I had done my homework).

I still don’t get why people want to fight small bias, by destroying their credibility, but … it happens more than you’d think.”

6. The age of consent.

“More of a case of screwing himself over, but here goes. This was a case another prosecutor in my office had a few years back. 30 year old defendant was charged with sexual assault of a child after he got his girlfriend’s 14 year old sister pregnant. She actually kept the baby so the police just waited and got a paternity test. No surprise, defendant was the father.

Defendant wanted probation; prosector refused to offer it. He decided to plead guilty and have a jury trial on punishment (here in Texas, you can choose to have the jury set punishment). Evidence mostly proceeded as expected. The victim testified to having consensual (aside from not being old enough to consent) sex with the defendant, getting pregnant, etc.. Paternity test introduced.

Defendant took the stand. His version of events was that he snuck into victim’s room at night, covered her mouth, and held her down while he forcibly had sex with her against her will. It seemed like his own lawyer had no idea that’s the story he settled on.

The jury deliberated about fifteen minutes before returning a verdict of 17 years (the maximum possible as charged was 20). When interviewed by the attorneys afterwards, one of them said they decided on 17 years so the defendant would never forget the age of consent in Texas again.”

7. A terrible story.

“A prior boss’s story:

They had a drunk-driver-kills-a-car-worth-of-people case at the time when they were a general practitioner. My boss was representing the family that got hit (one where the two kids and the wife had died, but the father had not) and wanted the college guy’s drunk-driving skin to be mounted on a wall.

This was back before Facebook was commonly used in Court proceedings and before tons of people realized that shit is too great for any attorney worth their weight in salt to pass up.

So, the kid (drunk driving college kid) had managed to get the judge’s sympathy during the first part of the hearing by saying he was sorry, haunted, never going to drink again, this was going to ruin his life, etc. The judge seemed to really be eating it up.

Then comes my boss and immediately burns this kid’s remorse to the ground by showing numerous Facebook statuses and photos of them binge drinking, partying, and even joking about driving drunk from the date of the accident up until a night ago. The kid looked like he was being forced to swallow hot coals and the judge was absolutely livid.

Needless to say, the kid had to do way more than just apologize and be remorseful after that.”

8. Drunk…again.

“My dad’s case. He was the equivalent of a Public Defender decades ago. There was this guy that would get caught for being drunk in public, public lewdness, etc. EVERY weekend. He seemed to draw the same judges and was pretty well known to everyone in the courthouse as an absolute lost cause.

One of the “regular” judges had him appear in his court again. The judge is ready to give him a prison sentence because he was driving a car this time, but the guy starts crying that he finally got a job out of town and was trying to turn his life around. Judge tells him as long as he never makes a mistake “in my town again” he would just drop the charges.

Well sure as hell the guy shows up the following Monday. Same judge. Driving drunk AGAIN. My dad now has his case. The judge tells him he gave him his final chance, to which the guy sobs and replies “I was leaving town, your Honor.

But my friends decided to throw me a going-away party.” The judge was not amused. My dad had to do everything he could to not laugh.”

9. Custody dispute.

“I was litigating a custody dispute on behalf of the mother in an incredibly conservative jurisdiction. One of the most common ways to get custody was to allege sex or porn addiction because the threshold for it was basically non existent.

For this hearing however, we lucked out with the judge, who I knew from other cases. Opposing counsel tried to “gotcha!” Me into settling before the hearing by showing me surprise sexts between mom and her new boyfriend.

This is, of course, not law and order and you can’t introduce surprise evidence. So we go through with the hearing, I object to the sexts, but say I would allow them to be ready into the record, in their entirety.

So the uptight very conservative local attorney gets to spend the next twenty five minutes or so reading sexts in open court occasionally asking if she could gloss over parts but no, I didn’t feel it would be appropriate. I’ll never forget hearing her struggle with the word nipple. It’s not even a dirty word!

But this was like the third hearing we had to amend custody because this guy felt his ex wife having a boyfriend meant she was a sex addict. They alleged the sexts happened while the kid was in Mom’s custody. But they based that on the timestamp of the screenshots. The timestamp on the texts was clearly at a time when the kid was not even around and mom was safe to get freaky over the phone.

The judge had heard enough of his bullshit and awarded attorneys fees and put in the order, consistent with the vexatious litigant statute, that if dad would continue to be liable for her attorneys fees if he kept pushing this shit.

It was the only joy I got from practicing family law.”

10. “The most badass thing I had ever seen.”

“I was a very new lawyer, with no bankruptcy experience. A partner sent me to bankruptcy court to try to make a claim as a creditor related to a $50 million building that was being sold.

Time and lack of knowledge will prevent me from accurately describing everything that went down but I will do my best.

The Court handled my client’s claim very quickly and easily at first. The Court ruled we were not a creditor because our claim was against a tenant, which was correct. (Note, we had purchased the claim from someone merely to try to somehow wedge our way into buying the property – which was very transparent to the Court.)

So I could just set back for the remainder of the hearing and watch the 2 premier bankruptcy attorneys go at it. One represented the debtor and the owner of the building; the other represented a secured creditor with a lien against the building

They absolutely hated each other on a personal level, and were arguing with great venom about the plan to sell the real estate.

There was a small break in the action while the judge took care of another matter.

When we came back, the secured creditor attorney told the Court the following:

His client (the creditor) had purchased controlling interest in the debtor (the owner of the building).

He had been directed to fire the other attorney.

He had been directed to withdraw the motion to sell the real estate.

He then did both there in the Courtroom.

I have practiced for almost 3 decades. It was the most bad ass thing I had ever seen, and was particularly noteworthy because the courtroom was packed with other attorneys watching and those 2 attorneys absolutely hated each other.”

11. A major backfire.

“A wife filed for a restraining order because she wanted the house during divorce. Husband has good job, like 200k per year. Employer finds out about restraining order, husband is fired. He was very specialized employee so only job he can find close to to house, ex-wife, and daughter is 50k.

House gets foreclosed. Child support at less than $500 per month. Wife has to get job as waitress. Four cars get repossessed.”

12. Off to jail you go!

“Had a criminal jury trial for misdemeanor Criminal Mischief over 4 years ago. State filed charges and kept amending the Information to the point where they left the ACTUAL VICTIM out of the trial and proceeded with the two eyewitnesses.

Well, one of the witnesses was my client’s ex and the other witness was the ex’s new GF. They claimed my client vandalized the ACTUAL VICTIM’s car. Client denied everything.

Well, apparently, the State and both Witnesses had no idea that the Ex had a outstanding warrant for not paying child support to MY CLIENT which created a motive for him to lie. Asked him if he was aware that he had a warrant out for his arrest on the stand. He didn’t know. The Judge excused the jurors. The bailiffs arrested the Ex on the stand. State rested.

Judge granted our Motion for Judgment of Acquittal because we had good case law for the victim not being there. Client walked away free and the Ex went to jail.”

13. A story from the jury.

“I sat on the jury of a man who was accused of molesting his 10 year old niece. He elected to testify in his own defense and his defense was: “I did it, but it was her idea.”

It was his third felony strike so he will be spending (with luck) the rest of his life in prison.”

Like I said, I really hope I never have to go to court in my entire life…

How about you?

Have you had any experiences with the justice system?

If so, please share them in the comments.

We want to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly.

People Whose Parents Ruined Their Shot at Being Rich

You never know when something you collected as a youngster is going to make a comeback or – even better – become a collector’s item worth big bucks.

If you ever realized that you might have a bunch of crap in your old bedroom that could suddenly net you some cash, only to find out that your parents purged it, well…you know what it’s like to be in these 15 people’s shoes.

15. This is just awful.

“I found out my brother in law was using his grandfathers coin collection to buy energy drinks and cigarettes. They were a lot of mint silver dollars, assorted old coins he had been collecting for decades.

I found him basically taking the coins out of their display cases and tossing the plastic case so he could use them at face value. Grandfather at the time had dementia so no longer cared and I never found out how much money was lost.”

14. This is just a sad story all the way around.

“I remember when state quarters first came out, my father sent me a collection of every first edition state quarter and one time I went to show my friends awhile later and couldn’t find them, I asked my mother and she said she had to use them for laundry.

We were very poor at the time so I understand, but I was a little sad by it as well because it was one of the only things my father ever sent me.”

13. I have to assume he’s not lying.

“Nearly all of the first 24 editions of virtually every Marvel series, from The Fantastic Four to Spiderman (including the Amazing Tales in which he was introduced) to Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos. Basically all of them.

At a comic book store I was once looking at some collectors editions of those comics priced at about $1500 to $2400. I said to the clerk “Man, I used to have all of these.” The clerk, whom I’m sure was Matt Groening’s model for Comic Book Man, without even looking up said in a bored voice, “Do you know how many times a day I hear that?””

12. I wonder if she knows where they are…

“My brother had a bunch of first edition Pokémon cards, that he spent over a year collecting. Mom took them away for getting in trouble at school, and they were never seen again.”

11. None of this is remotely okay.

“Jeez, After my mom died, my dad met this crazy, Jahova’s witness bitch and one thing led to another. About a month before my highschool graduation we got into a HUGE fight over something and she burned my collection of old DnD books and magic cards.

Complete collections…

every 1st edition book in good condition signed by Gygax. Guess my brother knew him at some point.

The real kicker? I rode the wave of the original magic the gathering launches back in the day, complete sets of the original series through…homelands? All burnt to a crisp. Every once in a while when i want to be depressed about never being able to retire i look up the card values

Edit: For the Curious, this was almost 25 years ago, i dont even know if the crazy bitch was still alive honestly.”

10. Yes but they were packed away neatly for a reason!

“I had the complete collection of teenage mutant ninja turtles figures.. i packed them into a box and put them away then later when looking for them i couldn’t find them… asked my mother.. “oh those, i threw them out.. you weren’t playing with them anymore””

9. I have all the rage.

“I feel your pain. My parents were evangelical Christians and burned all of my first edition harry potter books and mine and my brother’s pokemon collection. The HP stuff for “witchcraft” reasons and he cards because the yin yang sign on them is “a doorway for demons”. Religion eh?”

8. Definitely still worth something.

“Lots of original Star Wars toys. They wouldn’t be NIB, definitely used but still…”

7. Some lucky buck found those and squealed.

“1st editions of The Chronicles of Narnia signed by C.S. Lewis”

6. Oh man, that must be driving him mad!

“I had an original burned CD of Drake’s first ever home recorded demo LP. Like.. burned by him and signed with a sharpie. He gave it to me when I was working as a security guard in his condo before he blew up and got famous. I still keep hoping I’ll find it in a box somewhere…”

5. How many garbage men are retiring on stuff our parents trashed?

“I had every single beyblade released in the US until I went to college and my mom ‘gave them away to a worthy cause’. Turns out she dumped them in the trash, the man who drives the garbage van told me about them and asked me if he could take them home for his kid. I agreed anyway.”

4. One person’s trash…

“About 40 Indian Arrow heads collected on my grandparents farm for years by myself and my grandfather and full sets of baseball cards from 1969-1980, my mom decided to toss out all that “junk” when I moved out for military.”

3. Someone is not ready to let this go.

“I had a huge collection of magic the gathering cards all in mint condition dating back all the way to alpha that I collected as a young kid. My psycho mom decided that I had too much stuff that I enjoyed and threw out my collection and a bunch of other stuff.

Some background is needed since there’s a lot of issues of clarity on this collection.

  1. I hung out with an autistic kid all the time as a kid and his dad owns a comic shop. So he would give me booster boxes at vendor cost and also give me tons of stuff as gifts for holidays and birthdays. He also knew how horrible my mom was, so he was always cool and teaching me stuff.

  2. All my friends use to order booster boxes through me and give me a few booster packs for helping, most of them have me their collections when they quit playing. I also learned from him how to take care of my stuff properly, which was something I enjoyed because my brother and sister broke my toys all the time and they ignored me when I had my cards or read books.

  3. I bought everything myself with money I made for myself at 5 years old. I would fix other kids bikes, mow lawns, shovel snow, do yard work, help old people with various things, etc.

  4. The moment I could have a real job I got it delivering papers by bike at 12 years old. Asking my parents for money was basically like asking to play a prank on myself that wasn’t funny. Right now I have a similar sensibility with money and trading favors with other professionals to get deals on stuff.

  5. I bought a new furnace and had it installed for a grand total of $2k because of a contractor friend of mine getting it for me, modifying it, and installing it himself because I designed all his business materials. He gives me deals like that all the time and helps me fix stuff because everything I did made his business blossom making him 3x what he normally did independently.

  6. That’s an example, I also have a tax friend and other various friends in various trade fields that I do this with. It pays to be socially open / open minded, caring, and diplomatic while having a good time.

  7. while quite possibly a $1 million collection, maybe slightly under, I am offsetting this by the comics she did the same thing to. Basically by the time I left home my mtg collection, comic collection, soccer gear, signed artwork, and various other things were thrown away. If you add it up it definitely goes well above the $2 million dollar mark

  8. 12 collections of mtg cards I was given were alpha-Arabian nights. Every collection afterwards given to me had cards from there in them but were usually after beta. Over 30 collections with a majority being friends that followed my cues on care. They all though sleeves, binders, and boxes looked way cooler than torn up cards.

  9. I post all the time in r/raisedbynarcissists but I never thought this many people would care about losing that kind of collection.

  10. I have no want to waste time suing my mom or the desire to deal with the drama, i prefer to have an excuse to not have her in my or my kids lives. I also don’t talk to her much or let her in my kids lives, I have her a chance with my first son and she failed miserably.

  11. She was racist to his autism therapist the only time I let her take him to his ABA center, which I smoothed over by meeting with them to explain her actions and words are not representative of me or my family.

  12. Her excuse was that things were “too easy” for me, so she tried to screw it up so I’d have to drive an hour away to the next best acceptable facility. She doesn’t care, she’s just that horrible type of parent that doesn’t want you to be better off than she was at any point in your life.

  13. my mom was way worse than just doing this, it wasn’t done for any reason other than she hated that I was a strong willed person that questioned everything when she wanted to control everything and everyone around her.

  14. So when I see people say she arbitrarily did it, she knew it would hurt/traumatize me and possibly give up and fall in line with being the nobody she wanted me to be.

  15. I feel for anyone who had similar experiences

  16. I don’t believe in revenge, I believe in karma

  17. I was not going to sell my entire collection in college, I was going to sell a few of the expensive cards I had that I had more than 5 copies of. I was planning to save the rest for when they were so expensive I’d feel bad touching them.

  18. my mom ruined a scholarship for studying abroad in high school where my room and board were paid for already and I would have a job tutoring English for extra money.

  19. She also spent my grandparents money that was set aside in my college account as my inheritance, got me injured playing soccer costing me to lose a full ride to a university that won national titles every year I would have attended, intentionally tried to sabotage me from being able to go to class in college, lied to family constantly causing them to harass me about stuff I knew nothing about, and many other things I don’t care to reminisce about.”

2. This is one forgiving brother!

“South African coin collection that my older sister threw away without consulting anyone.

Wow, it looks like this resonated with a lot people. Thanks for all your responses and for the silver from the kind person. Stay well Everyone.

To answer your questions: Thankfully, they were not kruger rands. My parents would have kept those safe. They were random old copper coins that had become rare because they were old. I was young and naive and had never thought to value them.

They may not have been worth that much at the time, but they were valuable to me for sentimental reasons. They may been worth a few hundred each by now. Who knows.

My sister was into different things at the time, so I don’t think she had any clue about coin collecting. It was very mean to throw out my stuff and I think she realised this later on, but I don’t resent her for it because we all make mistakes.”

1. Why would anyone do that?

“My mom had a collection of signed Beatles records that she threw away after she converted to Christianity because played backwards they summoned the devil or something. For years I was hoping to inherit it when I grew up.

All i think it summoned was poverty.”

This has never happened to me because I never really took care of my things. Womp-womp.

These Autism Awareness Sneakers Feature Sensory-Inclusive Elements

Vans has dropped a collection of sneakers geared toward kids and adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The shoes’ designers consulted with the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards, who create standardized programs in a variety of industries for people with sensory disorders and other special needs.

The resulting line of sneakers are extra-comfortable, sensory-inclusive shoes that focus on touch, sight, and sound.

The shoes come in a palette of cool, calming shades of blue and gray, include additional padding for great comfort, and loops on the back that make them easy to pull on. One version features a textured, checkered pattern and another is topped with a polychromatic holograph of water.

CNN has reported that many parents with kids on the spectrum are enthusiastic about the product, which will hopefully help their children be more independent and experience fewer clothing-related frustrations.

One parent, whose child still struggles to put on and tie his own shoes, said that “the single strap hook and loop will allow him to put his shoes on and adjust them to the tightness he personally needs. The reinforced toe means that he will be able to wear a pair he is used to longer without the anxiety of changing shoes.”

Plus, they look really cool!

Vans is also planning to donate at least $100k of its earnings from the collection to the A.skate Foundation, a nonprofit that promotes the therapeutic benefits of skateboarding for children on the spectrum.

If you’re loving this idea as much as I do, you can shop the collection here.

The company said in a press release that “since 1966, Vans has stood as a champion of individuality and self-expression. With this project, Vans celebrates the unique aspects of all people.”

Petition Asks Airlines to Seat Families Together Without Making Them Pay for the Privilege

Letting parents sit with their children on flights would seem to be common sense and, you know, the right thing to do, but that’s never been a reason for airlines to do anything.

See also: why they seat people in the front and with aisle seats before the rest of us schleps just because of some imagined “status.”

Planes should be boarded back to front, window to aisle, and I will die on this hill.

Anyway. Apparently some people out there agree with me, because there’s an actual petition to ask airlines to let families sit together without paying yet another fee.

The petition, started by Consumer Reports, applies to families traveling with kids under 13 and sent letters to the heads of Delta, United, and American asking them to institute these new policies.

More than 120,000 people have signed the petition, arguing that seating children away from their parents presents security concerns, should there be an emergency, as well as inappropriate burdens on customers who end up sitting next to an unaccompanied child.

In the letters, they also pointed out that sexual assault could also be a concern, but there are also many others.

“The FBI has reported on increases in sexual assaults in commercial travel. Also, emergency procedures and evacuations will certainly be slowed and compromised by anxious parents and children who are far apart from each other on the plane.”

Consumer Reports also shared the letters ahead of Tuesday’s House Aviation Subcommittee hearing, which could decide to seat children younger than 13 with their parent or guardian at no additional cost. This would not mean airlines would have to upgrade anyone’s seating.

What’s your go-to travel accessory when traveling with kids? ⁣ ⁣ If it’s not the koala Kloud, then you’re missing out! This was our first trip using one of these and honestly, I wished we’d had one sooner! The kids loved being able to put their feet up and chill out. ⁣ ⁣ On the way back from Dubai, we managed a whole 6 hours of sleep from our two youngest who were able to curl up and get comfortable in their own little space. ⁣ ⁣ We also love that they were really quick to inflate and deflate and they compressed down into small little bags which we clipped onto the outside of our day bag! So convenient!! ⁣ ⁣ We will definitely be taking these with us on other trips! ⁣ ⁣ If you want to try one of these out, you can buy them from amazon or from Etsy. 136 consumer complaints were forwarded by the Department of Transportation, which may not be enough to get the attention the organization was hoping for, but American Airlines told the website Romper that they are working on a family seating process.

“For families traveling with a child under the age of 15 who don’t have a seat assignment, our system will work to seat the child with an adult in the reservation starting 48 hours after the reservation is ticketed. This ensures the child will not be assigned a seat alone. In addition, we block seats on flights for airport control. This enables our airport team members to move people around, as needed, at the gate. This is helpful in case families book at the last minute, rebooking due to irregular operations, etc.”

Delta had a more vague reply, stating that they “work with customers on a case-by-case basis to ensure their travel needs are met,” and United declined to reply with a comment.

In the end, the airlines don’t need the government’s approval to do the right thing.

“The airlines can fix this problem without government intervention. Ensuring that children are always seated with their parents regardless of the ticket purchased would improve safety and security for all travelers while easing the minds of families.”

Of course, we all know that sometimes big corporations have trouble doing the right thing until their hands are forced, but however this happens, I hope the changes are made soon.

Have you had a bad experience trying to sit with your children on a flight? We want to hear about it in the comments!

Songs Other Than “Happy Birthday” to Teach Your Kids to Sing While They Wash Their Hands

The coronavirus, aka COVID-19, is or will soon be at your doorstep. And while this new virus is scary for so many people (rightfully so), the truth is that everyone could use a little refresher now and then on how important it is to wash your hands properly – and for long enough – as often as necessary.

Now, the CDC and WHO have important work to do, so they’re only giving you one song option to easily count down your 20 seconds of washing time – Happy Birthday twice – but luckily, there are people all over the internet ready and willing to give you more options.

Below are 5 alternatives hand-picked for the kids in the house!

5. Mary Had a Little Lamb

Your kid probably already knows this one, it’s harmless, and hey, you only have to sing the first verse to use up your 20 seconds.

4. If You’re Happy and You Know It

Change “clap your hands” to “wash your hands” and voila! 20 seconds has passed and your kid has spent it following directions. Will miracles never cease?!

3. Row, Row, Row Your Boat

Another lyric tweak and you’ve got “wash, wash, wash your hands as well as you can!” so this takes the recommended 20 seconds and reminds your toddler what they’re supposed to be doing at the same time.

2. The Alphabet Song

This is a favorite in our house, and honestly, it usually takes more than 20 seconds (unless someone has something they’d really rather be doing).

1. The Germs Song

This one probably isn’t as easy or familiar, but it is instructive! The Kiboomers use three verses to get into the nitty-gritty gross stuff that’s stuck to your hands before you wash them, and any one of them is long enough to get you to your goal.

If your toddler is like mine, you might have to ask them to sing the song twice because they do it so fast, but there you go!

What are you singing while you wash your hands these days? We’re dying to know!

A Black Mom Is Pregnant for the Fifth Time and She’s Not Here for the Haters

There are families all over TV who are celebrated for having a ton of kids. There are teenagers on cable television having two and three children before they’re old enough to drink. Religions push people into not using birth control with the argument that humans are meant to populate the (overpopulated) earth.

But listen, when black or brown people hit the town with their broods that include more than two or three littles, the judgment is quick and harsh.

They couldn’t possibly afford all of those children. They couldn’t possibly be a nuclear family? They must be a drain on society!

No.

And Leslie Lewis, a black mother of four and curator of the popular Instagram account @TheLewis_Show, just couldn’t keep quiet when people began to make snotty comments on her pregnancy announcement for their latest addition.

Leslie is married to her husband, Joe, and together they have two sons, two daughters, a scruffy dog, and one on. the way. They are ridiculously cute, usually in adorable, matching outfits (even the dog!), and she has a strong following – but the haters were ready to pounce on her post about #5 joining the crew.

“So, I don’t usually publicly address the Negative Nancys and Pouty Pauls that find it necessary to judge my life choices. BUT a number of ppl have been commenting and even having the nerve to send me DMs regarding my pregnancy… ‘I thought y’all was done?’ ‘How can y’all afford 5?’

Listen here! I am a married ADULT! I have one baby daddy (This post isn’t by any means intended to shame OR  offend anyone whose situation is different). I don’t appreciate getting messages about birth control and questions like ‘How did this happen?’ SEX…Sex is how it happened.”

Her post has grabbed 65,000 likes and tons of comments in support of her decision to speak up, more than a few of whom mentioned the divide between how large white families and large families of color are treated.

HAPPY MONDAY ??????????? I first off we want to send a huge Thank You! To all of you that responded to our Yahoo Article. We received so many positive responses and over 3k DM’s, I wish I could respond to all of you personally, but I just don’t have the capacity. Some of them were so touching and a lot of you mentioned, “It’s not about race”- and I’m realizing that some people truly believe that but, unfortunately, because of that pesky systemic racism and oppression in our society ITS ALWAYS ABOUT RACE. From the comments about the Duggar’s, John and Kate plus 8, and the Goslings etc… it had us thinking. Reality TV, these networks and production companies would feed off the drama of a single parent household, or Joe being married to 4 different women ( but he lightweight is with all these hair changes and mood swings ?) and had a bad past. Y’all want me to be fighting on TV so bad, but as a family we refuse to be portrayed in that light. Sell our soul to the devil for a contract. No ma’am or sir. We don’t want to be on TV that bad. We believe the right doors will open at the right time and you all will tune in to the love and light we will continue to portray! BRING BACK The images of BLACK FAMILIES ✊?? that was me yelling out loud my thoughts while typing this caption.. as I scrolled through our pics I realized, we are what ppl want to see but it’s too strong of an image to see on TV. We don’t have any real drama going on, damn it! Me:Joe let’s make some shit up to give the ppl what they want! Joe: F*** that! Me: My N!€€@ ✊? #TheLewisFamily #marriedwithchildren #Sf #Influencers #Real #BlackLove #TheCoordiNatedFamily #OldNavy #Blue #Yellow #HelloMonday #FashionFamily

“Tell ’em sis! The Duggars captured 2.3M viewers. Now when brown and black families have large families, folks and their microaggressions assume we are exploiting the system,” said one person.

“This is definitely a ppl of color issue. No one questions white women when they have large families, hell it’s encouraged but ppl are always policing our brown bodies,” agreed another.

When Leslie spoke with Yahoo Lifestyle, she said that one woman’s comment in particular encouraged her to speak up.

“The last straw was when another woman felt the need to send me really hurtful messages assuming I must be on welfare and how I should be on birth control, etc.”

Leslie would like to use her platform and her influence to help normalize the idea that people of color, and working-class families across the board, are allowed to – and always have had – larger families.

“I have learned to use my platform to uplift families and women of color, and to use the criticism as fuel to meet and exceed my personal and family goals! Maybe one day we will get a reality show since there’s no families of color with multiple kids on TV that people can relate to.”

“We see pictures, we say goals, Bish I’m who they trying to be! – ~Cardi!”(who else started head- boppin?! Lol ?) Real Talk .. Modeling your life after someone else’s will never work, especially when it comes to your relationship. I believe it’s a huge mistake to compare your partner to anyone else, that’s right ladies, not your brother, father, uncle, best friend…ANYONE. You have no idea what your favorite couples have gone through behind closed doors, what pain and dark moments they had to endure. Even the most beautiful “perfect” couples have made countless sacrifices and compromises to ensure the success of their marriages. We have been together for almost 2 decades, no one can imagine what Joe and I have been through that got us to this point in our relationship and it’s not over! It’s like your favorite songs, you play over and over but never realize the amount of studio time it took to polish it up. Love is so much more than a word, it is a multi-layered commitment to another person, I like to use Live Over Various Events,L.O.V.E…see what i did there? LOL. It’s a shitload of time, giving, FORgiving, learning, growing and patience. Joe can attest to my resilience, my support, my love, my cries, my laughs and my crazy psycho Cancer moments that he’s gotten used to…mostly. I have learned to get through his ignoring moments, being less affectionate than what I’m used to, leaving all the water on the bathroom sink and all the clothes on the side of the bed ? Send Help! This shit just didn’t happen over night, we are not a ‘one hit wonder’. We are the real thing, and after 18 years, we are still learning, evolving, and loving US. Every couple has to find their own groove and this is ours. #AnsweredPrayers #MyFamily #MeetTheLewis’ #HappyMonday #Message #BlackLove #CoordinatedFamily #BabyBumpin #Pink #Burgundy #Mauve Photo: @acktionemmages ?

I don’t know about you, but I’d definitely be on board to watch these cuties (plus the little girl that’s coming soon!) run around being adorable and changing perceptions all over the world.

Do you think she was right to call out the haters? Why do you suppose people of color have to deal with more judgment surrounding a decision to have many kids? Let’s discuss in the comments!

Or, you know, we can also just talk about which of her family’s outfits are the best, but that road would be long and winding and never end, I fear!

A Stay-At-Home Mom’s Emotional Post Reminds Us That We Still Need a Village

The world is always changing. A lot a lot. Human beings used to live in villages, and when women had children, everyone helped – with the birth, caring for mom and baby and other kids postpartum, and yeah, if one mom needed a day to breathe, there were women who would take her brood for the day, no questions asked.

One day, she would do it for them.

Now? We’re isolated. I didn’t realize how much that was true until I became a mom that stays home with her children, either, but the truth is, parenting young children can be extremely lonely.

This is what being a new mom looks like without filters, without Facetune, without presets… . I wake up every hour and half to nurse my newborn… . My older children are desperate for my attention…. . I’m having a hell of a hot flash while I type this. . I’m in the thick of a battle with postpartum depression… . I’m praying my 2 year old naps for just 20 minutes longer so I can finish an episode of @goodgirlsfeed . I desperately want a glass of wine, but it’s 2:59pm snd I still have a million hours before the kids go to bed. . I’m exhausted. . But I would live this reality on repeat because I live for the sounds of my babies voices filling our home with their laughter, their cries, their arguments, their babble… . Sometimes I don’t know how I put one foot in front of the other because honesty, I’m having a hard time adjusting to life with 3 kids, but I’m so thankful that God has chosen me to walk this path as the mama of these blessed girls ❤ . If any of this resonated with you, I see you mama. I feel you. I will pray for you. And I BELIEVE IN YOU. Motherhood, real motherhood, isn’t filtered. It’s raw and messy and hard and so beautiful. Let yourself feel it all ❤

If you’re lucky (I am), you have parents and other family nearby and a partner that’s supportive. Friends who are in the same stage of life as you and who live near enough to help out.

Even so, it’s hard. No one warns you about how hard it will be, and worse, everyone assumes that “staying home with your kids” is the best possible life, leaving the women who do it and struggle feeling like they’re not allowed to speak up when they’re miserable.

Which is kind of exactly what mom Bridgette Anne was feeling when she posted a raw, heartbreaking post about how not-okay she is after taking on the role for the first time.

☝ everyone thinks being a stay at home mom full time is easy.— that we are lucky to be able to not have to work.—…

Posted by Bridgette Anne on Thursday, January 30, 2020

You can’t do anything by yourself; go to the bathroom, enjoy a cup of coffee, read, hell you can’t even scrub the shit out of pants for the 3rd time in a day without someone crying or screaming at your leg.

You don’t get breaks unless they are sleeping; which even then you use that time to clean up

You struggle to come up with ways to entertain someone for literally 12 hours a day every day.

You wear the same clothes that smell like sweat and tears for days at a time because it’s already stained and no use in ruining more clothes.

You forget what it means or feels like to be an individual; because your entire existence now revolves around that child.

You look at working moms and get jealous because you wish you could have an excuse to have an adult conversation without being interrupted.

You lock yourself in the bathroom and scream into a towel while crying because you need a second to breathe; all while a child is banging on the door to get in…

I was one of those people who judged SAHM’s. But I get it now. The people who said they’d be there to help have all but disappeared, and you’re left with this overwhelming sense of failure.

My house isn’t clean, I’m not clean, the dishes aren’t done, I have screamed already today, I have cried, and I have felt so damn guilty that my child was here to witness it.

But I am alone….and I am lonely

People were quick to rally around Bridgette online, offering words of support and encouragement, but I wish there were more and easier ways for SAHMs to connect in real life. To be there for each other, to take each other’s kids for an afternoon, to meet at the part so you can have some coffee and conversation that doesn’t include constant requests for water and peeled fruit.

Being a SAHM is wonderful, but it’s also very, very hard. And until we can come to terms with the fact that both of those things can be true at the same time, moms everywhere are still going to struggle.

That’s not good for anyone, y’all, so please. Be kind, reach out, listen, be supportive. We can still be a village, but we have to try a lot harder to make it work.
