This Person Got Into an Argument With a Mother Whose Child Went Missing. Were They Wrong?

If you ever give someone parenting advice, you know there’s gonna be some conflict.

And I get it! Because no one wants to be told that they’re doing a bad job being a mom or a dad.

This person shared a story about some harsh words they had for a mother and now they want to know if they acted like an a**hole.

Check it out.

AITA for getting harsh with a mother whose child had gone missing?

“Got home from work last night, threw some food on and went to take my dog out.

Its somewhere between 7pm-8pm (not yet dark but will be in about an hour). While I’m standing out there I see this kid walking by barefoot, completely sobbing and calling out the name “Susan” over and over. He couldn’t have been more than 8 years old.

Instantly I’m worried and go over and ask him if he’s okay, if he’s lost or trying to find someone (I live in an apartment complex). This kid then breaks my heart. Between desperate sobs he tells me his two year old sister Susan is missing.

That he didn’t mean it, they were playing on the stairs and he had thought his mom was watching her when he went over to say hi to a friend that was walking by. Apparently she wasnt and his sister had wandered off.

I spring into action right away and tell this poor to let’s go find her. I ask if anyone has called the authorities or if he wants me to make a phone call for some help. The kid looks scared and says no, his mom is also looking. It was almost like he was afraid to get in trouble. So I spend the next hour with this kid looking high and low for his sister.

It starts getting dark so I tell the boy I should take him home and his mom needs to call the proper authorities if she hasn’t, but her 8 year old son should not be wandering around alone in the dark. We dont want people hunting for 2 missing kids.

So as were heading back to his apartment and he’s still sobbing and calling her name, this guy sitting out on his patio goes “Oh, if you’re still looking for that girl, they found almost an hour ago. She’s home safe.”

While there was relief, there was also fury in me. This mother had left her 8 year old son wandering around alone is desperation for the last hour. Almost the whole time I was with him, so I know there was no attempt to find him.

I get him to his apartment and knock and the mother answers the door. She goes “Oh there you are Joey. I was waiting for you to come back. Susan is fine, no need to worry. It was just a mistake. I know you wont make it again.” The boy is still sobbing.

Unable to help myself I look straight at the lady and say (in front of the boy). “Its a mistake you wont make again. This was your fault, not his. You didn’t even bother to come find him while he was out there trying to clean up your mess and your lucky you didn’t end up with two missing kids. I’m glad your daughter is home and safe, and now your son as well.”

Of course she’s start yelling at me, telling me I’m q horrible person to say that, and in front of her child and that I have no idea how scary and stressful it is to loose a child and that I have no idea what she went through after her son had told her Susan was missing. I just shrugged and said “It was a bad mistake, dont worry, I’m sure it wont happen again.” And walked off.

I feel like i might have been to harsh on a woman that obviously had a rough night and put her down in front of her child. I was just so angry at what she put that boy through.

AITA?”

And here’s what people had to say about it.

This reader said that this person was not an a**hole at all and that the mom in question acted inappropriately.

Another Reddit user said that young kids should not have this kind of responsibility and this is actually dangerous.

Another person argued that the mom’s expectations from this young boy were way over the top.

Memes for All the Tired Parents Out There Who Are Trying to Raise Boys

There’s been a lot of push back lately about the phrase “boys will be boys.”

Understandably, when it’s used in defense of inexcusable behavior on the part of men, especially in the realm of assault, etc, then it’s pretty repulsive.

But there’s another sense in which the term gets used – the sense in which I’d always thought of it. And that is that boys are just…kind of insane. Little boys especially. And they’re gonna do weird, goofy, chaotic stuff.

And at a certain point there’s nothing you can do but meme about it.

A Guy Reported His Own Mother for Identity Fraud. Was He Wrong?

It’s gotta be bad when you report someone in your own family for any kind of crime…

But it happens, folks!

And that’s what happened here in a story about a young man reporting his own mother for identity fraud.

Let’s see what went down and how readers reacted on Reddit.

AITA for reporting my mom for identity fraud?

“I (24M) and my gf put in an application to rent a condo and found out my mom borrowed ~$43,000 with my social insurance.

I talk with a lawyer and he tells me I can either report my mom for identity fraud or pay it off(or declare bankruptcy). I confront my mom and she begs me not to do it and just pay off the debt. I don’t have anywhere near that money and decide to do what the lawyer recommended. The lawyer told me filling out the police report is not the same as pressing charges but I’m still scared what might happen to her.

We use to be very poor and she used my social insurance to pay the bills and provide for me and my brother. This feels like I’m betraying her and her and my brother refuse to speak to me. My relatives all stopped talking to me.

Am I the a**hole here?”

And here’s how people responded on Reddit.

This person stated the obvious: $43,000 is a lot of money, no doubt about it.

And it sounds like his mom isn’t the kind of person to actually pay a debt off.

Another reader said that this man is now A LOT of money in the hole and that this illegal.

This Reddit user said that they know someone who had a similar experience and it caused a lot of havoc.

This person thinks that the man needs to report his mom and they’re speaking from experience.

Check out what they had to say.

These Tweets are Snapshots of What Parenting is Really Like

I have absolutely no clue what it’s like to be a parent. Based on my experiences with my nieces, it seems to be mostly blur of screaming and yelling at small people telling them not to scream so much.

Which, don’t get me wrong, sounds amazing, but I think I’m good for now.

At the moment I’d prefer to just read these tweets about parenting rather than jump into the gene pool myself.

10. Get ‘er done

He’s ready for a life of labor far too soon.

9. Selective listening

This is why everybody needs a little distance.

8. Sleep sweet

7. Sweet bliss

Plus maybe you got some fun drugs afterwards?

6. The routine

Bedtime is when kids suddenly realize they have a long list of errands to run.

4. Important life lessons

So, yeah, nothing in there is making me super excited about the idea of having kid of my own, but, heck, maybe someday. In a year or a century or whatever.

Do you have kids? What’s it really like?

Hit me with the full scoop in the comments, if you would.

Was This Person a Jerk For Telling Their Daughter She’s Getting What She Deserves? People Weighed In.

You deserve it!

Nobody ever wants to hear those words directed at them and now a dad is second-guessing what he said to his daughter.

He took to Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?” page to see what readers there thought about what he said.

Let’s take a look.

AITA for telling my daughter that she’s getting what she deserves?

“I (58m) have two daughters. One from a previous marriage and another from my wife’s previous marriage. Both daughters are around the same age (think mid-twenties).

My daughter Allie has never gotten along with her stepsister Johanna. If Johanna invited Allie to a movie, Allie was suddenly super busy and had no time. If Johanna wanted to come with Allie to a party, Johanna wasn’t invited and there was no way she could bring her. She’d rip up Joanna’s things and would blame Johanna when she’d be grounded.

Just the run of the mill petty teenager bullstink. Johanna was a good sport and always seemed to take things on the chin. Her explanation was always that “sisters fight”. Until about maybe three or four summers ago Allie was home from college and was going through a rough breakup that was causing her grades to tank which put her on academic probation.

Allie was upset and was taking it out on everyone, especially Johanna. My wife and I told her to cut it out and she seemed to catch on that her behavior wasn’t gonna be accepted.

Come to find out after Allie leaves to go back to college that she’d completely destroyed Johanna’s scrapbook with pictures of her dad and destroyed a lot of the shirts she had left of his. Johanna didn’t make a stink about it in front of us but that night the house stunk of E6000 and mod podge.

You could guess what she spent the night doing. After that incident Johanna had completely given up on Allie. Allie has a birthday coming up, Johanna wouldn’t even sign the card. Allie is in town for the weekend, unless it’s a holiday or family event, Johanna wasn’t there. And honestly we didn’t blame her.

Now the issue is that Allie wants Johanna to let things go and let bygones be bygones. Johanna is getting married soon, and Allie wants an invite. It was brought up this past week at a family dinner (Johanna and her fiance as well as their son attended/Allie and her wife and two girls attended as well).

Allie brought up how the kids were the same age and how it’d be cool after the wedding if the kids could hang out. Allie also asked what she should wear to Johanna’s wedding and if she’d be a bridesmaid. Johanna pretty much laid it out for Allie that she wasn’t coming and that the kids wouldn’t be seeing each other outside of family events.

The night was pretty tense afterwards and I asked Johanna if there was any way she could forgive Allie. She said she wanted nothing to do with her and I told her I fully understand that she carries a lot of hurt from how Allie treated her. Allie came to me after Johanna left and pretty much begged me to convince Johanna to move past things.

I told her that had she been a more considerate and kind person back then that maybe she’d have a chance at a relationship with her stepsister. I told her that she made her bed and she needs to lay in it. She said I’m a a-hole and that any good father would want to see his kids reunite.

AITA for telling her she deserves this?”

And here’s how folks reacted on Reddit.

This reader said, quite simply, that everyone except Johanna SUCKS in this situation. Ouch…

Another person agreed and thinks that Allie needs to make peace with her sister.

This individual said that these actions were simply sadistic. Thoughts on this comment?

And finally, this reader pointed out that this isn’t the first time this has happened and that the dad seems to let Allie do whatever the hell she pleases. Not cool!

Was this dad too harsh?

Or were his actions justified?

People Talk About What Would’ve Happened if They Were Confronted By Their Past Selves

When I was taking acting classes (because my life goal is to get attention), I learned one concept that I found really helpful, both on and off stage.

It’s a psychological phenomenon my teacher referred to as a “private audience.” No matter what we’re doing, all of us carry around people in our minds and sort of wonder what they might think of what we’re doing. Maybe you’re thinking of trying to make a parent proud, or how to impress a crush. Maybe some abuser from your past remains in your head, judging all your actions as inadequate, etc.

But one private audience member I think most of us share is ourselves. Our past selves, and our future selves, which is what this Reddit post was all about.

If 16 year old you could see you now, what would 16 year old you think about your life? from AskReddit

So, what would yesterday us say about today us? Let’s find out.

1. California dreamin’

16 year old me would be p**sed I still lived in California instead of moving back to Texas as planned.

But I’ve fallen in love with it.

– Pythias

2. I’m still there

Like at 35 I’m still struggling with the concept of home ownership and a long term career (I have both, just still can’t wrap my brain around it).

I am living the 16 yo’s life though, own every game console (except PS5, f**k scalpers), and more Gundams than could have imagined.

– TrandaBear

3.  Pretty impressive

16 year old me would be impressed with my hot wife, great kids who would have much in common with him, being a homeowner of a really nice house, cool cars, and killer gaming PCs (I was a huge computer nerd in high school).

S**t, my whole house is automated which would have blown his/my mind.

– VisualBasic

4. It all changes fast

He’d be surprised with how quickly life goes from easy to hard. Both parents die in our 20s, the last living grandparent develops dementia at 100 years old whom we become POA for.

It’s easy to compare grass is greener. You’ll feel isolated because you don’t relate to people in your 30s or even older generations in the workplace.

The salary is good though, not to mention the core group of friends you have always answer the phone when you call.

– DaGurggles

5. Don’t give up hope

16 year old me was a foster kid in a girl’s home who wanted to die.

She wouldn’t even believe that I finally made it to Hollywood, became an artist and entertainer on her own terms and now owns her own victorian home.

I sure am glad those suicide attempts didn’t work.

– Immorefunthanyou

6. OMG so awesome!

16 year-old me would be shocked at how well I am doing.

At 16 years old I had just quit doing drugs after failing the ninth grade for the second time. I am now a DBA and make six figures.

Also, 16 year-old me would be like “Did you have s**? Yes?! OMG so awesome!”

There really is a benefit to coming from low expectations.

– imk

7. Not a doctor (shh!)

“So…not a doctor huh?”

“No, but you have a masters and you work as a therapist helping people who really need it.”

“But not a doctor.”

“No.”

“Are you thinking amount doing a PhD at least?”

“Kinda, there’s a limited about of good that would do us, outside of the title, and importantly you like what you do”

“But the title is awesome!”

“I know…”

– ConneryFTW

8. Nailed it

Still overweight, that sucks. Great career though, so that’s awe…

Wait… you married HER?!?!?! HOW?!?!? DUDE THAT’S AWESOME!!!!! SHE WOULDN’T EVEN GIVE ME THE TIME OF DAY!

– Garroch

9. Pretty grim

Like back then, I don’t value new experiences much because I’m not interested in most things or people, have no innate curiosity or desire to learn things and am affected deeply by negative events while getting nothing out of positive ones.

At most, after learning about my disappointing experiences with therapy and medication, I reckon my 16y/o self would just be sad that this is incurable, and probably much more bitter than I currently am that I have to put a crazy amount of effort into getting even half as much joy out of life as the average person.

I miss being blissfully ignorant about these things. Back then I was so much better at ignoring the external pressure to be someone I’m not because it didn’t even register to me that I was that abnormal. It’s getting better now, but it’s something I’ll have to make a conscious effort to fight for years to come.

– dniwehtotnoituac

10. Blinded by science

My 16 year old self would be devastated that both my parents and all my grandparents have passed away by the time I’m 32.

She would also be very surprised that I’m not working in marine biology or doing science of any kind as a career.

– Kaylin_Neya

11. No mountain high enough

16 year old me would be very impressed!

Stopped self-harming, left our emotionally-damaging hometown & now live in a gorgeous state, hiking mountains, traveling the world independently (pre-pandemic), rescued the sweetest dog ever, and still very close friends with a lot of my high-school friends that weren’t a**holes.

She would look at me and say “wow I truly made it”.

– NipplesOnIce

12. Reach for the stars

Astronomer here! I was already obsessed with the idea of being a radio astronomer when I was that age, so pretty sure she’d be over the moon ecstatic. ?

I actually think about 16 year old me a lot on days when research feels hard or I’m less motivated about a specific task.

It seems like such a minor thing to push through once you remember the passion you had as a teenager, and while a lot of astronomy is about chasing the next position it really makes me appreciate where I am now on the day to day level. Not sure that makes sense.

– Andromeda321

13. I’m livin’ my life

He would ask what happened to our hair and slim toned physique, then I’d explain that in adult life you eat what you want and don’t care about your hair so much so deal with it

– ScottyAlex1909

14. But why?

I am happy that 24 yo you is financially successful and managed to land a good career and have a girlfriend you like…

But why did you stop going to the gym, why do you take all those antidepressants / pills to sleep and why do you smoke weed?

– topastop

15. Mostly about phones

Well, for a start he’d be all: “You’re looking at a, whatchacallit, a ‘website’, on your telephone?”

Then he’d be happy that I was happily married with three awesome kids. Maybe a bit sad I don’t have a dog.

– TheWrongFusebox

I guess if 16 year old me showed up he’d probably mostly just scream and be confused.

But what would your former self say?

Was a Woman Wrong for Letting Her Dog Push Over a Young Child? People Shared Their Thoughts.

You never really know what’s gonna happen when dogs are around children.

That’s why both parties need to be responsible to make sure no one gets hurt. The most loving dog in the world might snap for some reason and bite a kid.

Or a child might do something to harm the animal. You just never know…

And a young woman took to Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?” page to ask readers if they thought she was in the wrong regarding an incident with her dog and a child.

Let’s take a look.

AITA for letting my dog push over a toddler?

“I (20f) have an 8 month old puppy.

He’s generally very well behaved, we’ve been going to a trainer with him since he was 4 months but he’s still an excitable puppy. I have him around young kids pretty often but I have them greet him properly first so they can play safely.

I take him for two walks a day which double as training sessions since he gets really hyped up outside and pulls/jumps which we’d like to stop even though he’s not particularly big and that means we’re frequently stopping and starting.

Today he started pulling near a local daycare, I stopped and he corrected himself so I gave him a treat and we went to head on when two young girls (2f, 4f) rushed over.

I knew them, they’re my neighbours and I generally get along with them so I paused to say hi, letting them know that my dog was okay to pat if they’d let me settle him down first since he gets a little excited and I didn’t want him jumping on them in case they got hurt. The girls seemed to understand but their dad came over and told them to “hurry up and pet the dog so we can go home”.

I tried to explain to him that I needed them to wait a second since he loves kids and if they wanted to pet him I just need to grab his collar and have him sit since he was still in training but he wouldn’t listen and told the girls again to “just pet him”.

So they did and my dog who was getting increasingly more excited about all these people immediately did what I warned and jumped up. The older one didn’t mind to much and let him lick her but the other fell over and immediately started screaming.

She didn’t seem hurt, just startled, but the dad immediately went off at me for having a “feral, untrained mutt” and told me I should never have my dog near kids before stormed off with his kids.

I did try and warn them but I love little kids and I feel awful about her being knocked over, especially since I probably could have grabbed him if I was paying more attention to my dog and less to the dad.

AITA for what happened?”

Here’s how people reacted on Reddit.

This reader said that the other dad in this situation is definitely to blame and that the guy is, quite simply, a d**k.

Another person said this boils down to one thing: entitlement from the dad in this story.

And this individual pointed out that the person who wrote the post tried but the father put his kids in danger by acting like this.

Finally, this Reddit user said that the person who wrote the story was trying to do the right thing and he did everything he could in this situation.

This Mom Refuses to Eliminate Princess Things From Her Daughter’s Life. Is She Wrong?

Some kids just don’t want to grow out of their princess phase, huh?

But who thought it would lead to conflict within a family?

Hey, people are weird! But I’m sure you already know that…

Take a look at this interesting story from Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?” page and keep reading to see how people reacted.

AITA for refusing to eliminate Princess stuff from my daughter’s life

“I’ll probably get judged for all this but I’m pregnant with a guy I’m not dating. He’s nice and wants to be there for the kid so we are on friendly terms. So far, we’ve had no issues until I met his parents.

I met them on Saturday, everything was going great until baby shower talk came up. I was talking about the theme and his mom said “Son, did you tell her about the Princess thing?”

He didn’t. Apparently his brother has a daughter from another relationship named Princess that he’s not allowed to see. It’s a sore subject for him and he lives with the grandparents so he’s around often. They have requested that we don’t do any themed events, buy any clothes, decorations, etc with the word “Princess” on them. It’s just “too hard” for the brother.

I may be the a**hole here because I don’t even have strong urges towards Princess stuff. Much prefer soup colored baby rompers. That said, I’m incredibly annoyed at this request and told them absolutely not—if I see something cute that says Princess or my kid wants Princess stuff, I will buy it. This upset his parents and started saying “really? You’d rather cause someone pain than put down a d**n Princess shirt?”

I’m not trying to cause pain but expecting me to restrict Princess from all things sounds completely unreasonable to me. I’m not particularly girly but even I went through a Princess phase and l love the children’s books “Fancy Nancy” so I’m sure I’m bound to stumble on some Princess stuff.

This is why the brother can’t see the kid: He gave up his rights so the kids step dad could adopt her and he’d be relieved of child support payments. They promised he’d still get to see the kid. After all was said and done they stopped letting him see her.

My baby’s dad believes he could see her if his brother put in effort but he doesn’t and just sulks about it instead.”

Okay, now it’s time to dig into the responses from folks on Reddit.

This reader argued that there is a middle ground that can be worked out here.

Let’s hope so…

Another person said that something with the family just seems a little strange and maybe the family shouldn’t be trusted.

Just a thought…

This Reddit user stated the obvious (at least in my opinion): everyone now has to avoid princess stuff because of this?

And finally, this reader thinks that this really doesn’t even need to an issue if they’re not going to be seeing each all that much anyway.

Now we want to hear from you.

Tell us how you feel about this story in the comments.

Thanks in advance!
