In Ghana, second-hand clothing imported from abroad is referred to as “obroni wawo,” or “dead white man’s clothes.” It serves as a source of income for many Ghanaians and provides clothing for some of the world’s poorest people. However, some argue that this trade is detrimental to Ghana’s own garment industry and culture.

When I want to buy an unusual new product, I remind myself that without risk there’s no reward.
Sometimes it works, and the unusual new product is a massive success!
Other times it’s a huge disappointment, and I kick myself for days.
The point is, we all make weird choices sometimes. And the luxury goods industry exists to feed those retail therapy choices.
When a woman went viral recently for posting her ridiculous discovery from Nordstrom, the post took off, with others joining in to share the weirdest and most expensive items they’ve seen for sale as well.
She wrote:
A hobby of mine is finding ridiculous items for sale at Nordstrom’s. This might be my best find yet. pic.twitter.com/racNtYs0jB

The $895 price tag may sound like a lot, but at least you won’t have any money left that you need to carry around, since, as one keen-eyed user pointed out the fine print:
This bedazzled objet d’art doesn’t actually carry anything, except for a conversation.
It sounds like something David Rose would say.
In addition to outrageously expensive and useless “purses”, there were a number of examples of horrifying (and useless?) clothing trends in the thread.
User @chelbee611 shared these bizarre underwear-exposing trousers.

Good thing they have free returns.
And who can forget this aptly described travesty, which I guess you could wear with those pants.
Behold!! This travesty pic.twitter.com/gx6xVofdkF

If you’re really looking to be classy, there’s this dress, which I would describe as “tarp & bungee chic” – perfect for any occasion.
Not bad. I recently shared this with my friend looking for a dress to wear to a wedding. pic.twitter.com/fRIgc7HZNT

And to really kick it up a notch, pair that dress with these matching gloves.
(They match the bungee cords.)

If the tarp dress isn’t to your liking, because, idk, you’re worried about rain on your back? Never fear, there’s always this shower curtain dress option shared by Ellen Grace.

Perfect for a rainy day or a chili dog eating contest.
And if you’re worried about getting cold (maybe in that backless dress) user @TSatch17 has you covered with this… sleeping bag wrap?
This is still one my of favorite Nordstrom finds. pic.twitter.com/7bYFGZQxTp

Another user, @jamiesanpedroo, who really got into the exercise, found these wacky toe-sock-boot-gizmos, and I don’t even know what to do with them.

Is Nordstrom okay?
Not to single out high end retailers, @my_tv_life pointed to her favorite source for the ridiculous, Etsy, and these fabulous handmade pants.

Several users shared the same $1300 hat, which I personally thought looked like an attempt to imitate an orca.
add this leather baby yoda hat and you’ve got quite the outfit pic.twitter.com/fWN8pecmWo

And don’t forget about the bling. There was the bike lock necklace that costs more than any actual bike lock.
Just in case, you know, you’re worried someone’s going to steal your head.

A Woman Asked if It’s Wrong to Uninvite Dad’s Girlfriend From Her Wedding if She Wears a Similar Dress
This is going to be a bumpy ride!
A woman went on the record on Reddit’s “Am I the a**hole” forum and asked if she was wrong to crack the whip and un-invite her dad’s girlfriend because the GF…get this…wanted to wear beige to her wedding…
Like I said, a bumpy ride…
Here’s how the story started.
What seemed like a nice birthday celebration went downhill in a hurry, however, when the woman noticed something alarming in her Dad’s girlfriend’s Instagram feed.
And let’s just say it caught her off-guard.
And she was definitely NOT happy with the girlfriend’s choice of clothing.
And neither was her sister.
So it was now time to talk to her dad about just what the hell was exactly going on here…
But she couldn’t reach her dad because he was off the grid…
Later on, the dad’s girlfriend texted the woman a birthday message…and the woman told her how she felt about her picking a dress so similar to her’s…on her wedding day.
And she asked her not to wear it…but she hasn’t received a response.
And the girlfriend had already been warned about a similar situation so it’s not like this should have been a conversation in the first place.
And she decided to lay down the law with her dad, as well.
She added that she doesn’t want to be a “Bridezilla”, but this was totally inappropriate.
So… what did the internet think?
Not. The. A**hole.
Not at all.
And that’s just tacky!
How about you?
What do you think about this situation?
Share your thoughts with us in the comments. Thanks!

The formal clothing of the Roman…
The formal clothing of the Roman Citizen was the Toga. During Roman elections, those running for political office would rub their Toga with a dazzling white chalk to stand out. Called Toga Candida (pure-white) this clothing was the origin of the word “candidate”.

The “Style Not Size” Series Shows that Body Type Doesn’t Really Matter in Fashion
Denise Mercedes and Maria Castellanos are entrepreneurs, models, and friends who have made quite a splash on Instagram with their “Style not Size” series – a collaboration between the two women, both of different height, shape, and ethnicity, showing off side-by-side displays of the same outfits, and absolutely rocking every one of them.
The idea here is simple but expertly achieved; fashion isn’t about having this or that body type, it’s about crafting your look and having confidence! Try as you might, there’s just no way to say who wears it better in any one of these. Here are just a few examples of this killer set!
10. Serving looks
I’m also impressed by how clean that kitchen is…
9. Keep it 100
Got good moves, too.
8. Natural light

Woman Was Mocked for Her Dress on Tinder, So a Fashion Retailer Put Her Picture on Their Site
It’s upsetting how rude people are to strangers online these days. I guess it’s nothing new, but it’s still sad to see how people get cut down when they put themselves out there on social media.
But sometimes, there’s a happy ending to those bad interactions.
Take the case of a young woman named Thea Chippendale. She lives in the UK and, like millions of other people out there, she was on a dating app looking to find a love connection.
Posted by Thea Chippendale on Saturday, 8 December 2018
What she found instead was an incredibly rude insult from a man named George, who said she was “a bit of a joke” and that her dress in her photo on Tinder was “not doing any favours.”
Wow. What a dick.
Chippendale decided to tweet about her interaction with this man and her tweet went viral in a big way.
Men are trash. (Included the pic he’s on about ) pic.twitter.com/3pi6NHl0Oy
— Thea Lauryn Chippendale (@theachippendale) April 28, 2019
Well, things took a very interesting turn from there. A huge fashion company called ASOS caught wind of Chippendale’s tweet and they responded to her.
Here’s to finding our perfect match Thea babe, let’s talk. Check your DMs…
— ASOS (@ASOS) May 1, 2019
And then things went a step further. Chippendale said, “The CEO of ASOS, Nick Beighton, invited me down to their HQ where him and the amazing ASOS staff gave me a tour of how ASOS works and all the different departments they have. They also gave me a makeover and I got to have a little photoshoot with their photographers – it was an amazing experience.”
Take a look at this! Who do you think got the last laugh here?
This is insane, thank you so much @ASOS https://t.co/4vKtxGXHUN

The women who work in the garment…
The women who work in the garment recycling industry in India have a theory that because of a water shortage in the West, it must be cheaper to buy new clothes than to wash them. This explains why so many clothes are discarded barely worn.

Tweets That Capture the Vibe of Our Wardrobe Choices Right Now
Even though the fashion industry is worth over a trillion dollars per year, if we all had our way, we’d probably just wear sweat pants and snuggies all the time. A lot of us have certainly learned that about ourselves, and many have taken to Twitter to express this inconvenient truth in hilarious ways.
Here are 13 examples of people who will never look at style choices the same way again.
13. All about me
Not caring what other people think is a lieeeeee.
If quarantine has taught me one thing, It’s that all those times I said I was “dressing for myself,” I was lying.

12. Where to where?
Yanno maybe we never needed all those outfits.
why do I still have the urge to buy clothes online? like for why? where do I plan to where them? the kitchen?

11. Don’t be a scab
We’re all on strike from life, get in line.

10. Ready? FIGHT!
This is some subtle video game brilliance.

quarantine day ???: my husband just walked into the living room wearing in a t-shirt and nothing else, said "dress for the job you want" and then disappeared

8. My big day
Why should you only get to wear it once, anyway?

— Josh Gondelman (@joshgondelman) April 26, 2020
4. My natural state
They mustn’t know this is the real me.
People: I can't wait for this to be over. I'm going to spend so much time outside and doing social stuff with others.
Me: *laughs nervously* Yes, me too. I will be doing all the social things outside my apartment and not laying around in sweatpants and no bra.
— Charlotte Clymer (@cmclymer) April 26, 2020
3. Changing standards
Look I don’t want to brag but I managed to clean an entire dish today.
Showered, put on clean clothes, then took a walk. With the day’s hard work out of the way I can now relax.

2. Half asleep
The key to success is knowing you could totally go do stuff if you wanted to.
lot of talk on here about not wearing a bra during ~these uncertain times~ but not enough acknowledgement of my go-to: waking up and putting a sports bra on under my pajamas, thereby transforming sleep clothes into maybe-i'll-exercise-later clothes while still wearing pajamas
— Hannah Keyser (@HannahRKeyser) April 23, 2020
1. Don’t overpack
Again, the only conclusion I can come to here is that most of us just have way too many clothes.
I feel like I’m on that trip where you bring a bunch of clothes but only end up wearing the same 5 things
— Sarah Levy (@sarahlevy_) April 11, 2020
