Here’s How Alex Trebek Plans to Officially Say Goodbye to “Jeopardy!” Fans

I’m not looking forward to this one bit…

Alex Trebek has hosted the hit TV show Jeopardy! since 1984, and in those three-and-a-half decades, he’s become a beloved figure. His name and face are so synonymous with the television program, it’s hard to imagine anyone else hosting the show.

It was revealed last year that the 79-year-old Trebek has stage 4 pancreatic cancer, and since then the public has been rallying by his side and hoping for a happy outcome as he has gone through multiple rounds of chemotherapy.

Trebek has said he doesn’t have a particular date in mind for his exit from Jeopardy!, but he added that when he leaves it will be “a significant moment for me, but I’ve kind of, in my mind, rehearsed it already. What I would do on that day is tell the director, ‘Time the show down to leave me 30 seconds at the end.’ That’s all I want.”

Trebek continued, “And I will say my goodbyes [and] I will tell people, ‘Don’t ask me who’s going to replace me because I have no say whatsoever. But I’m sure that if you give them the same love and attention, and respect that you have shown me…then they will be a success and the show will continue being a success. And until we meet again, God bless you and goodbye.’”

Here is the video of Trebek’s interview with Michael Strahan where he discusses his farewell.

We’re going to miss you, Mr. Trebek! Thanks for all the great entertainment throughout the years!

Vinyl Record Sales Surpassed CDs Last Year for the First Time in Decades

As someone who has collected vinyl since high school, I think this is awesome. Don’t get me wrong, I like CDs and cassettes too (I don’t currently have any 8-tracks), but I prefer vinyl records.

I just honestly believe they sound the best out of all formats.

In 2019, people bought $224 million worth of vinyl records. This was the first time since 1986 that vinyl outsold CDs.

That’s a long time for a medium to spend on the outs before it stages a takeover from its replacement format, don’t you think?

Vinyl has been competing with CDs, cassettes, and now with digital music for many years, but a resurgence in the popularity of records along with annual events like Record Store Day have made vinyl a hot commodity again over the past several years. Records have gone from practically obsolete, to objects of desire once again.

In the week that ended on December 26, 2019, 1.243 million vinyl albums were sold – the first time that’s happened since Nielsen began tracking music data in 1991.

Recent arrivals to the shop! Lots of jazz!

A post shared by Creme Tangerine Records (@cremetangerinerecords) on

And it isn’t one generation that’s making up a bulk of the vinyl sales; Millennials and Generation Z folks are just as likely to buy records as Baby Boomers and Generation X’ers. Plus, people are buying records from artists across many generations. Currently, some of the biggest-selling vinyl artists are Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, The Beatles, and Queen.

Just for fun, I’d like to include some of my favorite record stores across the country. Check these folks out online or in-person if you’re in the area!

Creme Tangerine Records in Costa Mesa, California.

Premium Sound in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Love Garden Sounds in Lawrence, Kansas.

Go buy some records!

A Hockey Player Reached Out to Anna Kendrick and Twitter Users Chipped in to Help Him Out

This is Anna Kendrick, big-time Hollywood actress.

And all I’ve gotta say is… dayum!

And this is Anthony Beauvillier, hockey player for the New York Islanders.

Playoffs baby!!!! Here we go 🕺🏼

A post shared by Anthony Beauvillier (@titobeauvi91) on

Beauvillier decided to reach out to Kendrick on Twitter and, to his surprise, he got a little help from his friends. Actually, I’m not sure if he even knows these people, but they’re probably his friends now.

Here’s how Beauvillier tried to get Kendrick’s attention.

Okay, probably not the most original introduction in the history of mankind, but, still, he gave it a shot.

But then something miraculous happened. People on Twitter got behind “Beau” as he’s known to hockey fans and they started to chip in with stories (that could possibly be categorized as “tall tales”) and compliments to help boost Beauvillier’s image to Kendrick so she’d go out on a date with him.

There was the time Beau saved those kittens.

And then he gave another fan a kidney.

And remember when Beau saved all those puppies? And this guy thankfully mentioned how HUGE Beau’s cup is…hint hint.

Apparently, the guy is handy in the emergency room as well.

All in one day?!?! This guy can do it all!

And then we have this absolute gem.

Finally, this friend of Beau’s went above and beyond in the compliment department…

Some really great friends right there, don’t you agree? I’d think any lady would be hard-pressed to deny a guy like this a date.

Here’s how Anna Kendrick responded to all the hoopla on Twitter.

Nothing further on this story yet…we’ll see if this one ends up in a love connection.

What do you think? Would you have been so bold?

People Tweeted About the VHS Tapes They Wore out as Kids, and These Will Make You Nostalgic

I grew up on VHS and I actually still have a decent collection, so it was a real treat seeing folks tweet out the tapes they watched when they were young.

I can tell you what my VHS tapes were (are) that I played out over and over. I had Road House and Point Break taped onto a single VHS, and I brought that tape to every single sleepover I ever went to. Two classics, if I do say so myself.

Let’s see what people had to say about this!

1. Good old Peter Pan.

2. Hook.

3. The Olsen Twins!

4. A classic.

5. Fievel!

6. That’s a very serious choice.

7. Who you gonna call?

8. Run for it, Marty!

9. Learning life lessons from Mr. Miyagi.

10. I’ll be back.

What were the VHS tapes that you wore out as a kid?

10 True Celebrity Facts That Might Surprise You

Celebrities are constantly on our radar. We pay attention to what they wear, what they say, and what they do. Because they get so much of our attention, we think we really know them – then suddenly we discover weird truths about them that throw us off.

Cause you can never really know someone whom you’ve never spoken to or even seen in person.

Here are some facts about some of your favorite celebrities.

10. Elvis was blonde.

The artist had to dye his hair black frequently so he could keep his signature look. His stylist later confessed to dutifully helping the star keep his hair healthy, including using jojoba oil, shampooing his hair, and assisting with his hairstyles.

And the dying, that too.

9. Kesha got her big break by breaking into Prince’s house.

The now-star was struggling to make it in the music industry, so she trespassed into the legend’s home to plant her demo tape. Prince got the tape, liked what her heard, and the rest is history.

8. David Bowie’s eyes were only sort of two colors.

Okay, not exactly. Bowie had two perfectly blue eyes. He merely looked like he had one black and one blue eye because he got into a fight as a teenager that resulted in one of his eyes becoming permanently dilated. This gave the appearance of having one black eye, and one blue one.

7. Beyoncé has a perfume allergy.

The star has her own perfume, but she can’t actually use it. It’s an open secret that she’s allergic to perfume.

6. Taylor Swift once modeled for Abercrombie and Fitch.

The star appeared in the brand’s catalog in 2003, well before she got famous. Other stars that modeled for the clothing brand before they hit it big: Channing Tatum, Jennifer Lawrence, Penn Badgley, and Emma Roberts.

5. Adele isn’t allowed to tweet.

The star tweeted while under the influence a few times (drunk twitter, never a good idea), so her management put a stop her tweeting. Adele has to get approval from two people before using her account.

4. Enya was the original choice to compose for Titanic.

Director James Cameron originally wanted Enya to compose music for Titanic. Later, the star revealed that she didn’t accept the gig because she prefers to work on her own, and she would have had to work with others to make the score.

3. The Beatles’ “Yesterday” was originally about eggs.

Paul McCartney said the song appeared in his dreams. He didn’t want to forget the melody, so he improvised some lyrics about scrambled eggs to keep it fresh in his mind.

2. Jon Bon Jovi has an inspirational restaurant.

Soul Kitchen in New Jersey features delicious meals, but the rockstar makes sure everyone can enjoy the food. If you don’t have enough money for the menu price, you can volunteer in the kitchen or pay what you can.

1. Martin Luther King Jr. has more Grammys than Katy Perry.

And so does former President Barack Obama. The Perry has gotten 13 Grammy nominations but hasn’t won one yet.

What did you think? Which of these celebrity facts surprised you the most? We want to know.

Samuel L. Jackson’s Voice Has Arrived on Alexa. With Profanity and All…

I live in an Alexa household, even though we’re well aware we’ve invited the government and big business and probably more eyes and ears into our homes. It just makes it so easy to add things to the grocery list, turn the lights off and on (because who wants to stand up?), play music, and on and on.

Even so, I’ll be the first person to say that Alexa’s voice can quickly go from pleasant to annoying, depending on one’s mood.

Do you know whose melodious voice is always welcome, though?

One Samuel L. Jackson.

And now, he can be the voice turning your lights on and adding stuff to your shopping list.

The Guardian is reporting that Amazon has confirmed they will be using neural text-to-speech technology to mimic Jackson’s voice, so it won’t just be pre-recorded phrases – Jackson can do anything from read you the weather to sing you Happy Birthday.

He won’t be able to help with your shopping, reminders, lists, or other Alexa Skills. Womp-womp.

This is all with Samuel L. Jackson’s approval, of course, and you’re certainly aware that the award-winning actor is as famous for his blue language as his performance skills – which is why Alexa is going to allow you to set your device to allow him to swear appropriately in his responses.

Which you know, is just a win for everyone involved, really.

You’ll be able to download the technology for just $.99 to start, but if you want to keep it forever, eventually you’ll have to pay $4.99.

If you’re someone like my sister, who gets prissy about profanity, don’t worry – Amazon promises that deals with other celebrities are in the works, and before long “Alexa” could be just about anyone you like.

Which is a little terrifying.

Tom Hanks Reading Nice Tweets Aloud Might Make You Like Him Even More

There’s a lot of bad things going on in the world today, and it’s not often that the internet is someplace we can go to take a break from all of that – but today, it is!

Because Tom Hanks (in the spirit of Mr. Rogers, whom he recently played on the big screen) is reading some of the nicest tweets he could find.

He sat down to do the thing with Twitter Movies, and each tweet he read had a sweet, quirky story to go along with it.

It began with a tweet from a former McDonald’s employee who regularly gave people 1 more chicken nugget than they asked for – a small but appreciated surprise.

“That is a man who’s not only being nice, but he’s feeing the world a little bit better,” said Hanks. “And he’s bucking the corporate strategy. Bravo! That’s a nice thing to do!”

Here’s another one: it was from a person who shared a story from – of all places – dental school.

“Told this guy who sits next to me in dental class about how I skip lunch just to get to class on time and the next day he pulls out a hot chicken shawarma out of his bag for me saying he doesn’t want me to be hungry is he in love with me yes or no.”

Twitter loved the video, already clamoring for more.

If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that Fred Rogers would have approved.

People Share the Horror Movies That Fully Traumatized Them…Let’s Take a Look

When I was 8-years-old, I stayed home sick from school and was all alone in the house. My older brother had rented a movie the night before, so I decided to spend my sick day watching The Evil Dead

Oh boy.

It totally traumatized me but also gave me a love for horror movies that continues to this day.

People shared what scary flicks traumatized them and left a lasting impression. These responses come to us from the Buzzfeed Community.

Let’s see yours in the comments!

1. Burnt Offerings (1976)

“It’s this movie from the late ’70s that no one’s ever heard of for some reason. It’s basically about a family rents a large estate one summer and a whole lot of weirdness goes down. It will mess you up for life.”

2. Evil Dead (2013)

“This remake was so terrifying that I couldn’t finish watching it the first time. It took me a whole year to gather up the courage to try watching it again.”

3. The Hitcher (1986)

“It’s been way too long since I’ve seen this, but it still terrifies the crap out of me!”

4. Night of the Living Dead (1968)

“My grandmother had 80 acres in the middle of nowhere in Wisconsin. I saw this movie when I was 5 or 6 years old and was terrified to sleep in that house at night because it seemed like the perfect setting for those zombies. It still creeps me out.”

5. Tusk (2014)

“I thought it sounded like a funny premise, but it kept me up the whole night and bothered me for weeks. I’ve watched a lot of horror movies. I don’t know what it is about this one, but it absolutely haunted me.”

6. Child’s Play (1988)

“I was nine and Chucky somehow reminded me of my American girl doll. I had to put her away in my closet every night so that she wouldn’t stare at me with her huge eyes and buck teeth trying to plot my death while I slept.”

7. Arachnophobia (1990)

“I watched this when I was a kid and I haven’t had a worry-free shower in 16 years.”

8. The Descent (2006)

“This is the most disturbing, gory, hopeless movie ever made. I legitimately wish I could erase it from my brain.”

9. Phantasm (1979)

“I saw it when I was about eight and — although I had already seen other horror movies because my parents were huge horror fans — this movie was the only one to give me nightmares. To this very day I get apprehensive around undertakers, especially if they are tall and wearing a dark suit.”

10. Hereditary (2018)

“I went and saw a late night showing of this with a friend, knowing absolutely nothing about the film. Then, when the trailers for new movies started playing and they were all scary movie trailers, I knew that we were in for a ride. We were terrified!”

11. The Witch (2013)

“I watched this one night randomly at 3 AM because I couldn’t sleep and I love witch movies. It scared the heck out of me! It reminded me of the movie The Village, but scarier. It seemed so real. I will never watch it again!”

12. I Spit on Your Grave (1978)

“I can deal with a ton of violence and gore, but Lord, the sadism in that movie was off the charts.”

13. The Entity (1982)

“If you haven’t seen it, be thankful. I saw this when I was 10 and it is no less disturbing to me in my 40’s. Most horror movies nowadays don’t bother me, but maybe it’s because this one desensitized me.”

14. Funny Games (1997)

“You can’t make a list about movies that mess you up without mentioning this one. My friend and I watched the original German version. I thought I was going to throw up and made my friends turn it off.”

15. The Strangers (2008)

“This should definitely be on this list. I watched it back when it first came out and — to this day — I won’t answer the door if I’m home alone (unless I’ve ordered food, of course).”

Fans of ‘the Bachelor’ Can Now Get Chris Harrison to Officiate Their Wedding

Isn’t this interesting…?

Some people like to do something big and memorable for when they pop the big question, others would like to have a celebrity preside over the nuptials. Well, if you’re a mega-fan of all things related to The Bachelor, you might want to jump on this opportunity.

Chris Harrison, the host of the massively popular ABC show, has been an ordained minister since 2012 with Universal Life Church and he is available to officiate your wedding…for a fee.

In order for Harrison to consider being at your big day, you have to fill out an online form and give all the details about your big day including location, budget, etc. Harrison doesn’t list a price for his services, but he says he will travel anywhere, including internationally. On his Instagram page, the TV host said, “I’ll even come officiate your wedding – as long as there’s rose or two there..oh and good wine!”

And if you really want to get crazy, you can even book Villa de la Vina, the mansion that’s used in The Bachelor. The sprawling mansion is located in Malibu, California.

If for some reason you can’t afford to dish out the big bucks for Harrison to actually be at your wedding, you can always have him give you a video shout-out, if you are so inclined.

If you could pick a celebrity to officiate your wedding, who would it be?

Oh, and…will you accept this rose…?
