Whether it’s by fake emails or texts or the old-fashioned way of someone knocking on your door to swindle you out of money, these scammers are EVERYWHERE.

So it’s best to be informed about what the hell they’re up to, right?

Here’s what AskReddit users had to say about scams that people still fall for.

1. Amway.

“I got caught up in Amway when I was a teenager. I was waiting tables and this super charismatic guy started working there. He got a bunch of us to go meet with his mentor and the guy had a house on the beach, which he was probably renting, and I remember him showing us this stupid model car saying he was going to get a real one some day by believing he would.

Well, I bought the little $75 starter kit, the one they sell you to demonstrate the products and use them yourself. They actually weren’t horrible. I even went to a meeting. It was at the meeting that I went “WTF did I get myself into?”

They were truly like a cult. It was scary. I think that experience is part of why I’m so antisocial and don’t like going to group things… I just have flashbacks to this cultish Amway meeting. All they needed was the summoning circle and robes, I swear.

So I just stopped going to meetings and didn’t contact them again. The guy and his mentor both harassed me for months with threatening phone calls.

Telling me I owed them money if I quit because the $75 was just a down payment on the products they gave me. I just ignored them and they finally went away.

First and last time getting into some mess like that.”

2. Praise the Lord!

“Jim Fucking Bakker.

A couple months back, Jim Bakker got sued by the state of Missouri for trying to sell a fake coronavirus cure. I guess stealing millions from his own church 30 years ago just wasn’t enough…

My nephew, who is around 22 or 23 now is a youth minister, when he first started doing minister training or whatever it’s called he went to a camp that Jim Bakker and his son own and trained there for like a year.

He’s so young that he probably hadn’t even heard of what the Bakkers are most famous for (being con artist pieces of shit) and I never talked about them around him because he was an adult choosing his own path. But man did I hate it.

To this day he’s still good friends with Jim’s son.”

3. Aggravating.

“I was in the insurance industry as an auto damages appraiser. The biggest one is the anti-insurance body shop that will “fight for you.” or that pans itself as “a quick fix shop” or that “pays your deductible”

No, they wont. Every one of those places is going to fuck you in the ass. Collision repair centers are absolutely, 100% in a symbiotic relationship with insurance companies, because SO FUCKING MUCH of their business comes form insurance jobs.

If the shop claims to hate insurance companies, run the fuck way, because if you use them, your life will get very aggravating, very quickly.”

4. This sounds great!

“Online reviews.

A huge percentage of them are written but the seller (if good) or by a competitor (if not).”

5. Total scammers.

“Door-to-door magazine sales. No that kid is not getting sent on a camping trip if you will just buy subscriptions to Boys Life and Wine Aficionado. Most of the time they are a traveling troop that goes city-to-city, pulling the same scam each time.

Honestly, just door-to-door sales in general are usually a scam. Don’t trust the guy trying to sell you a new roof, or a driveway resurface, or a spanking new Hoover vacuum at your front door. Need a new roof or driveway? Call your insurance company and get a list of reputable companies.

Even if you aren’t filing an insurance claim, they will happily give you the name of several companies that can be trusted.”

6. Poor guy.

“Had an older coworker who you just couldn’t believe. Have many stories to tell, but this is just one for this thread.

Coworker in his late 60’s fell for dating app scams SO MANY FUCKING TIMES. These women always needed money for something and he obliged. Then when they’d come “meet” him something else would come up.

He never talked to one of these women on the phone. Always text. Best excuse was “she has a text only phone” So a beeper? NO! A text only phone!

Anyways he sent one scammer 4 $500 Amazon gift cards during a shift.

Another one got $500 transferred, said she lost it, then got another $500 and he called her stupid.

Thought he was talking to a porn star and getting special pictures which he showed us. Other coworker looked her up, and found that same picture on google images. Guy getting scammed, got mad, found the actual porn star and messaged her. Then demanded he gets actual special pics, she has no clue wtf he’s talking about since he’s been talking to a scammer.

Wire transferred insane amounts of money once a week, from $5,000 – $7,000. Bank would say sir, you’re getting scammed. He’d tell em fucking send it or he’d take his business elsewhere.

Once he was finally broke and got nothing in return he found out he was getting scammed and called the FBI. Which reported it to our higher ups, which in turn got him fired for being a security risk.

While we don’t know the actual amounts our best guess placed it somewhere between $50,000 – $100,000.

We told him he was being scammed for months before this point.”

7. Very odd.

“Diamond rings.

You waste thousands of dollars just for the ring, and if you don’t, the idea is that you “don’t think she’s worth anything”. Annoys me so much. (This is coming from a 22 year old female).”

8. It’s a miracle!

“Faith healing.

Where people are suddenly cured from cancer, blindness, and can walk again through the power of God.”

9. Then, the real fun starts…

“Self Publishing.

It’s a vanity press with a new name. Everyone would love to get their name on a book, but instead of having to go through the process of finding a publisher who will sign you and pay you to print your books, they’ll just have you fork over the money to get published.

And then, the real fun starts. There’s a book fair in city X, and every major book publisher is going to be there. It’ll only cost you another $1500 to have your books on the table.

And a film studio might be interested. $5,000 to get them really interested.

Oh, and this guy will interview you on the radio. For $1600.

By the way, they won’t sell your books. That’s also your job.

They’re all scummy companies. Don’t ever hand money over to Xlibris or any other self publishing company. Your name might look nice in print, but it’s going to cost you a lot more than you’ll ever get from it.”

10. No need for it.

“Getting a new phone every year for 1200$ to then use it for the same 5 apps that everyone uses, which run perfectly fine on 200$ phones.”

11. These places are everywhere.

“Title loans/payday loans.

Please, just fucking don’t. Read the WHOLE DAMN THING if you’re really desperate. I’d rather just eat rice and beans for a week. Or just go to a credit union/bank/whatever and get cash advance on a new credit card and pay that bitch off before a month goes by.

You might fuck up your credit if you don’t pay, but you won’t get your car taken.”

12. Thoughts on this?

“The Mormon Church has $100 Billion despite being totally debunked over a century ago.

The whole religion is predicated under the notion that Joseph Smith Jr was able to translate the “Reformed Egyptian” on the plates. Now the plates themselves were (conveniently) lost, but we do have an example of the language itself thanks to the papyrus from which the Book of Abraham is supposed to have been translated from.

Unfortunately for the church, we have the Rosetta Stone, which instead reveals said papyrus to have nothing to do with Abraham, instead being a pagan funeral rite. What this means in practice is that Joseph Smith did not have the ability to translate said “reformed egyptian” and thus could not have translated the plates from which the Book of Mormon came.

This leads us to a few possible avenues, none of which prevent the religion from being false.

He genuinely found plates, but was unable to translate them, and either made up the translation or had delusions that he could.

The plates didn’t exist, which is my personal belief due to his character.”

“That raising children is a ‘joy’. Sure it’s necessary for our species to survive, but spending all your money to take care of you and someone else, spending the remaining time you have to help them turn into well adjusted human beings and ‘giving’ them everything to meet social expectations of what a good parent is, just so they can become adults and leave your exhausted mind and body in the socially sanctioned prison we call an ‘old age home’ to die REALLY DOES NOT SOUND LIKE A JOYFUL LIFE.”

Maybe it happened at work, or maybe it happened out in public, but you BLOW IT and FUCK UP in a huge way and you go into panic mode.

Now you need to fix your FUCK UP before anyone notices.

It’s a race against the clock but somehow you pull it off.

1. Whoopsy daisy.

“Fucked up numerous times working on live applications. The best one was accidentally deleting the user table.

I was trying to delete a subset of users and managed to hit the key to run the statement before I’d written the “where” clause. If you don’t have a “where” clause to tell the database which records you want to delete, it just deletes all of them.

Luckily, the user table was only ever read by the application on log-in, so no one was going to notice unless they happened to log-in in the 2 mins or so it took me to load the records back in from a back-up.”

2. Working with acid.

“Working at a laboratory that used acid solutions to dissolve geological samples for various tests, my technical manager left a component of a machine in a plastic beaker filled halfway with concentrated hydrofluoric acid, unlabeled, in a fume hood that other people used regularly, “to see what it would do”.

I dumped it in a neutralizer and this asshole had the balls to yell at me for ruining his “test”. I told him it would etch and dissolve the part because it was glass, and he didn’t require a test because that’s already a known property.

Had someone spilled it on even a gloved hand, the hydrofluoric acid would pass through protection and enter the bloodstream without sensation, where it would leach calcium out of the bones, wreaking havoc on the nervous system causing a horrible, agonizing death.”

3. In the trash.

“I once had a roommate who didn’t speak English too well. She was moving away, and she was leaving in a hurry, and before she left she asked me to “take care of” a big bag of what was apparently clothes.

I assumed those were trash she didn’t want to take with her, and she just didn’t have time to throw them away, so once she left, I took that bag to the trash canister outside. A few hours later, that interaction just came back to my mind and seemed strange to me. I went back to the trash canister, the bag was still there, and brought it back inside.

The next day, she came back to get it and thanked me for “taking care of it”. She was a nice, poor girl from a rural region that was already struggling in the city, and I don’t want to think about what would have happened if I had to tell her that I threw her clothes into the trash.”

4. A wonderful song.

“Worked at a record / video rental store. After work on a weeknight, we close at 10pm, clean the store, count the register, lock the safe and go home.

When we clean the store we would often play a CD someone may have returned or which we wouldn’t normally play. Tonight it was 2 Live Crew’s ‘Banned In The USA’ CD with their hit single, ‘Pop That Pussy’. We put this on and crank it and start falling over laughing.

The bass is insane. We have 8 speakers set up around the perimeter of the store, all on shelves hanging near the ceiling. We hear this loud “THUNK” and cannot pinpoint what it was. We notice a speaker is “missing”… then find the corpse. It had jumped off it’s shelf and split into several chunks in the aisle.

Our night manager acted fast. “YOU!” she said, pointing to the 18 year old cashier. “Here’s $10. Go next door to Walgreens and get wood glue!” He’s gone. We start seeing if we can piece it back together. He returns. We glue it up and gently set that bitch back up on it’s shelf and left the speaker wire oh-so-gently unhooked.

The store closed about 6 years later and the manager never found out! We won! Yay Miami bass! Yay Pop That Pussy!”

5. Life and death.

“I was mixing IVs at the hospital.

Someone had put the wrong bag in the wrong bin. I didn’t notice.

I proceeded to make a batch of epidurals out of the wrong medicine. No one caught it. It somehow made it to the OB floor.

I came back into the IV room and saw the empty bag hanging and my stomach dropped. I called OB to ensure none had been used and to make sure it wouldn’t. Brought them back and wrote myself up.

If I hadn’t caught it, it would of caused major issue’s including the possibility of killing the patients. There were 12 syringes if I remember correctly.

I learned a very valuable lesson that day.”

6. Chicken drama.

“This is great timing, I was just thinking about this a few hours ago.

I rented a room from a couple and one of the rules was that I could not enter their yard. In their yard they had all sorts of animals a lovely quaky duck, a few cats and chickens. The chickens were in a big coop cause the cats hunting instincts were still to prevalent.

One weekend they asked me to feed the chickens while they went on a trip. On the last day of feeding all the chickens got out (5), and I noticed just in time to rip one of the chickens from the cats mouth.

After another hilarious 30 minute chase I’d put all the chickens back in the coop, minutes before they came home. I don’t think they noticed.”

7. That was awesome!

“Years ago, I lived in DC. One morning, riding in on the Metro I was changing trains from the Red line to the Blue. I heard the door chime and realized I wasn’t going to make this train. As I stopped, a guy bumped into me and ran on around and jumped on the train as the door chime sounded again. As he passed, I heard a thump and saw his cell phone hit the ground.

In one motion, I knelt down, grabbed the phone, stood up and under-armed the phone 20 feet and hit hit smack in the middle of his chest. He caught the phone, and looked up right at me in shock- then the door closed.

I said to myself, “Well, damn. No one saw that so I can never brag about it.” Then I heard a voice behind me say “Holy shit! That was awesome!” Guy who sat in the office right next to me was coming up behind me, heading into work at the same time. So since Tony saw it, I get to brag about it!”

8. That’s not good.

“Working on a presentation and managed to misspell the CEO’s name.

We’d been working on it for weeks, the name had been there probably since day 3 or 4. No one spotted it cause who would be dumb enough to get it wrong? I finally caught it about a week before it went to the presentation.

Definitely one of my sections, so glad I got it before it could do damage.”

9. A lucky break.

“Worked in an IT company. Had to switch of the routines for data backups because of I even don’t know anymore. Forgot to switch them on again. After around 2 years I noticed it more by coincidence. Felt very warm and sweaty instantly.

If data loss had happened, that would have been the end of the company. And the end of my career of course.”

10. Almost a bad accident.

“Caught a coworker pulling safety pins out of a support stand for a rather large and heavy jet engine component. I had two guys under the component and she was about to pull the last pin when I stopped her.

She was working with knowledge from a different style engine, and would have been correct on that model. In our model, she would have dropped a ton of metal on two guys.”

11. That would’ve been very embarrassing.

“I am a University professor.

I was watching porn one morning and closed my laptop without closing the browser. I then went to class, plugged the computer into the teaching station, and opened the screen. I was saved by the very brief delay between the image on my screen being displayed on the teaching station and it being displayed on the projector.

I managed to rip the HDMI cable out just before I projected to 100+ students.”

12. Catering.

“I work in catering, on multiple occasions have noticed food that has managed to be packaged on site, hasnt reached its sell by date (most foods we label with a sell by date of 3 days after packaging) and yet has mold on it. I’m sure I dont have to explain the consequences of that, physical or legal.

Also one time i was on my break and the food on sale was curry and somehow the one batch they happened to serve first managed to be ice cold because some how they managed to forget to heat that one up.

Luckily I was the first person to take some so I picked it up before the customer otherwise there would have been issues.”

13. Don’t play with fire.

“I was lighting matches and throwing them around a yard beside the one that I grew up in and bf it was so sunny out I couldn’t see that I started a grass fire and it had gotten big. ( the grass was also dead) I managed to find an old oil drum, tipped it over and rolled it all along the perimeter of the growing bush fire.

If I hadn’t had that barrel I would have burned down several graineries and possibly vehicles. If it had gotten into the tree line, my yard would have gone up. Only you know about this. None of my family.”

14. Dodged a bullet.

“Was going on a three night backpacking trip with friends, it was my job to round up three breakfasts.

At REI I picked up what I thought were six packages of freeze dried eggs hanging from a peg. Turns out only the first was eggs, the ones behind it were Neapolitan ice cream. The packages were identical, only a small label indicated the contents.

Fortunately for me the first day and night of the trip we were harassed so badly by biting flies and mosquitoes everyone wanted to abandon the trip as nobody brought bug spray.

I only discovered my mistake days later. Bullet dodged.”

How Can 2020 Possibly Be Redeemed? People Offer Their Opinions.

This year has been very…challenging so far.

Every single thing that could have gone wrong seems to have happened and we’re only halfway through 2020.

But, as you know, it’s important to remain positive and to at least hope that things will get better.

So let’s all be good to each other and pray that things turn around quickly.

1. That would be amazing.

“While searching for a Covid-19 treatment, someone discovers a cheap broad spectrum anti-viral.

Think the discovery of penicillin, just for viruses.”

2. Keep your fingers crossed.

“Someone discovers how to cure cancer cheaply and easily.”

3. A personal victory.

“I currently have a crush on a girl who works at the bank. I’m not sure if she is interested in me as well. I get a little nervous when I talk to her. I think she already knows I am interested in her.

If I get the chance to ask her out on a date and she says yes, I will climb a mountain and yell with happiness that she said yes.”

No one gets out of life alive, most of us ultimately want the same things, so if we can get our shit together, start playing on the same team, share knowledge/resources, and have some fucking compassion/empathy/respect for one another, 2020 might be salvageable. I dunno.

Send everyone to their rooms and don’t let them out until they’re ready to give it a go??”

These two changes would be well worth the 6 months of quarantine and poverty Covid has brought on the world.”

These People Can Make “Leather” Out of Cactus Leaves to Help Save the Environment

If scientists all over the world are to be believed, the environment is tanking in a hurry. The bad news is that the majority of international leadership doesn’t seem to be able to hear the alarm bells, but the good news is there are citizens everywhere are stepping up in myriad ways to solve different sets of problems.

One of many issues that’s leading to trouble with our planet is the stress that so many herd cattle put on our resources, and the amounts of methane their poop releases into the atmosphere. Those are just two of the reasons vegans prefer not to eat beef or buy things – like leather – that are also by-products of raising cattle for slaughter.

Two entrepreneurs from Mexico, Adrián López Velarde and his friend, Marte Cázarez, came together from separate industries to solve the problem of leather production…with cacti.

The friends left their jobs in fashion and furniture automotive to dedicate a few years to come up with the idea and the process for transforming cacti into usable vegan leather. It took two whole years before they came out with something they felt was marketable in 2019.

Cacti are a good choice because they don’t put much strain on the environment – they don’t require much water to grow and can thrive in a wide range of temperatures. They’re also very prevalent in Mexico, where the two live.

They call their vegan leather “Desserto,” and it’s the first environmentally friendly organic material made from the Nopal cactus. It’s highly sustainable and doesn’t contain any toxic chemicals, comes in a wide variety of colors, thicknesses, textures, and honestly looks and feels like the real thing.

The cactus “leather” is made by cutting mature leaves from the plants before cleaning, mashing, and drying them under the sun for three days. Then the material is processed into their patented (and secret!) formula.

Anything that’s normally made from cow leather can be made from Desserto. It’s elastic, breathable, highly customizable, and honestly, I don’t see one single reason this can’t take the place of cow’s leather completely in the future.

Other things that seem unrealistic atm, but could be possible some day: voting from home, more options for students to learn remotely, and for free, a total revamp of the current K-12 curriculum, free healthcare, free assessments and mental healthcare starting in childhood, better support systems in communities, especially for our poorest, youngest and elderly members, truly separating church and state, getting money out of politics, everyone having the time and inclination to pay attention to and get involved with local, state, and national politics, reigniting an interest in recycling and conservation, giving people the time, money, resources, and freedom for self-actualization from an early age.

There are so many things that would make 2020 and our future better.”

When the books are written, 2020 is gonna be a big chapter, probably up there with 1968.

We have civil unrest, protests, a divided populace, a health crisis, and a whole other host of issues we’re dealing with right now.

So, what could possibly redeem 2020?

People Talk About Conspiracy Theories That They Think Might Be Legit

I’ve been pretty obsessed with the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy since I was a little kid.

Who was behind it?

The Mafia? The Cubans? Russians?  Or was it just a lone wolf, like the government would have us believe?

The JFK assassination is just one of many conspiracy theories that people can spend a lot of time researching.

Can some of them possibly be true?

Here’s what AskReddit users had to say about this subject.

1. A coup.

3. Could it be true?

“There’s a very high chance that a nuclear test took place by Israel and South Africa in 1979 and that the United States covered it up for political reasons.”

4. MLK.

“Can’t believe nobody has said this already: I am somewhat suspicious of the Martin Luther King Jr. assassination.

Just before the shooting occurred, a police radio call announced an active shooter and car chase on the opposite side of town and requested back up, lots of back up. I saw some autopsy photos, discussed the matter with my dad (who is an ex-cop who saw a couple of suicide victims, both saving them from the nooses, and on the table), and he said that he had never seen anyone with strangling marks in the middle of their neck that wasn’t a murder, since most hanging suicide victims have the marks right under their chin.

If Epstein survived, and still gave out the list, it could have had a couple of added names, but there are pretty big chances that some of his clients might have been involved in other pedophile rings, much larger than what his ring.

Shit just doesn’t add up.”

The main doctor from the team that operates the candidate was a well-known oncologist in Brazil.

Well, the candidate was Bolsonaro and the stabbing boost his campaign and he won.

After the election, the guy who stabbed was declare with mental issues and is on special-hospital-jail while we discover that he was practicing gun fire in the same school/field as bolsonaro’s son (which this guy clearly could not pay for) and had a high-profile lawyer (again, who is paying for this?)

The conspiracy theory is: Bolsonaro had cancer and create this circus to operate while boosting his chances on the election.”

13. A local conspiracy.

“Every time these threads come around, people always talk about the big national conspiracies. I’ll let you all in on a very rural town conspiracy.

I graduated high school with a gentleman that would eventually become a cop. Kid came from a military family, was an avid gamer and DnD player, and was generally a great guy. I know he wanted to join the military like his father but he was barred due to some weird physical condition he had.

Instead of the military, he goes into the police department and becomes a local cop. He’s still a pretty good guy, but you know how life goes on after HS. We talked less and less, etc. He even pulled my wife over once for a ticket but let her go once he recognized her. His family were super proud of him as well.

Suddenly, I receive bad news from a buddy of mine. My cop friend committed suicide in his house once it was discovered he was apparently selling kiddie pornography.

Other local cops surrounded his house, he sent his fiance outside to surrender, and then turned his pistol on himself. It was sad of course, and many people were upset in the local community. However, it never sat well with me.

His family always contested the claims of kiddie porn too. The report stated they found a large amount of it on all of his computers and hard-drives. My deceased friend loved building computers, and had lots of parts.

The local police seized ALL of his equipment. Afaik, they never returned any of it. It would seem odd that someone so intelligent would be stupid enough to just download kiddie porn and place it on their hard-drives. Perhaps he wasn’t as smart as I thought, but it just never sat well with me.

Furthermore, his partner that he was seen with suddenly disappeared from the public eye. Not a month after my friend committed suicide, this particular cop quit the force and just left town. To this day, no one knows where he went or why he disappeared. My buddies family has tried to press the police department for information but they never said anything beyond “He doesn’t want to be a cop anymore”.

Most people would argue that people leave jobs all the time, but this particular guy had lots of family here, including a wife and kids. He apparently just skipped town and sent divorce papers to his wife, and then was never heard from again.

Its never sat right with me, especially since my friend was so happy to be a cop. Maybe I completely just missed this side of him, or maybe I am looking too deeply into this. But still, I think it’s definitely weird how the timeline of events lined up.

I’m not one to really believe in conspiracy theories, in general but I have to say that the more I dig into some of them, the more plausible some of them sound.

UFOs, political intrigue, assassinations. They’re very interesting to read about!

Do you believe in these kinds of things?

1. Russian intrigue.

“That Vladimir Putin actually orchestrated the Moscow Apartment Bombings, to consolidate power and justify another war in Chechnya.

2. Social Security issues.

3. One or the other.

Over the course of three weeks they had 6 “rain storms” that consisted of gelatinous blobs. Anyone that came in physical contact with them (even with latex gloves) became ill, with dizziness, nausea, and other symptoms. Originally the towns doctor diagnosed almost everyone with ear infections.

After finally getting someone to agree to test the blobs, they found white blood cells and bacteria in them. Everything from a water spout picking up jellyfish and dropping them on the town, to the possibility of it being from an illegal dumping of an airplane toilet, have been debunked as not feasible.

The air force admitted to testing weapons near a coastal town about 50 miles away, and residents are adamant they had an unusual amount of government air traffic leading up to the events.

The Air Force denies any involvement, but the residents are almost positive they were the unwilling test subjects in something more sinister than flying jellyfish.”

The story goes that after a disastrous maiden voyage of the Olympic, it would cost millions to repair in a time where a million was a lot of money. It’s sister ship, titanic was still being built so they hatched an insurance fraud scam.

They swapped the name plates between the two ships, labeled the Olympic as the titanic, and set sail. They planned to take damage to the ship, have a nearby ship save everyone, collect the insurance money and party hard.

Except there was a small boat illegally doing stuff in between the titanic/Olympic, so when the titanic/Olympic sent up flairs for help, the other ship responded instead of the planned one causing the messages to become confused, so the ship that was sent to save everyone was late and a lot of people died.”

Anyone doubting this is delusional. With all the space stuff we’ve receive and evidence that intelligent life might exist elsewhere (my Earth standards), anyone else think life might exist outside the “cosmos” or restrictions humans put on life?

There is probably different elements, substances, stuff we can’t comprehend that exists, but it blows our minds and admitting it is scary.”

14. Sphinx.

 “The Sphinx is undoubtedly not dated correctly. Our understanding of the rise of civilization is WAY off, and it’s all because of the egos of the archeological and “egyptological” communities.

Textbooks would have been to be rewritten. Careers would be ruined. Thankfully, the internet and people’s own good judgement is very helpful in revealing this atrocity of a lie.

Biggest claim is that extensive water erosion occurred on the enclosure walls and back of the Sphinx that would date back to the end of the last ice age, when there was heavy rainfall and lots of water in the area, about 11-12 thousands years ago, which is much further back in history than current claims by “egyptologists.”

⁠There isn’t much evidence in ancient Egyptian text to support the claim that it was fully carved in Egypt’s old kingdom. There is evidence, though, to suggest that the current ‘human’ head was recarved by a new Egyptian king when he found a huge stone head (maybe a lion’s) sticking out of the sand, but the human head is way out of proportion to the rest of the body, suggesting that the head was recarved from a different original head (maybe a lion).

The disproportionate head is really telling, because there are no other examples of animals or humans with disproportionate body parts found anywhere else in Egypt from that time. Ancient Egyptians loves their proportions and were obsessed with getting them just right.

There is ground penetrating radar evidence to suggest that that there is a subsurface chamber under the left paw of the Sphinx, and when Egyptian authorities found out about this, they shut down the whole radar search operation and banned them from further searching. Further suggestions to insert a small camera probe down into the chamber have been met with hostility.

Egypt’s old minister of antiquities, when asked about the water erosion of the Sphinx and the newly found left paw chamber, literally said “I don’t believe in radar, but I do believe in what we already know”. You would think that Egyptology would be a an actual science, but it’s definitely not.
