12 People Share the Conspiracy Theories That They Believe

Do you believe in conspiracy theories?

Somebody on Reddit asked the questions: “What conspiracy theory do you believe to be true? What evidence led you to this conclusion?”

And boy did the people deliver!

Enjoy these 13 VERY questionable conspiracy theories… and please don’t believe everything you read. Okay?

1. The real conspiracy…

I’m starting to think that the really stupid conspiracy theories (vaccines causing autism, flat earth, lizard people, etc.) are intentionally spread by propaganda groups and troll farms.

They don’t care what stupid shit you believe, but they are very interested to know that you’re a gullible mark who will believe anything with no evidence, and won’t do research with authorities on the matter to find the truth.

If you want to spread misinformation, look for the people who do it as a hobby.

2. Oh snap….

The 10 year challenge all over social media is actually a way to record and gather more facial recognition data

11. The strange killing of John Lang.

The Fresno Police killed John Lang.

It’s been a while since I’ve read the story, so forgive me if I get something wrong. John Lang was a journalist who was very critical of the FPD. He wrote an article about how the police went into poor parts of the city and pulled cars over that parked in free parking lots or something like that. Eventually, he started noticing people watching his house, “FBI style.”

One night he asked on Facebook if he could stay in someone’s home for the night, as he knew the police were going to kill him that night. After no one let him, his house caught on fire.

3. F is for Fake

I’ve always speculated that a lot of priceless artwork and historical documents are actually replicas or copies.

Obviously a painting by a world-famous artist using a very specific technique would be very hard to fake, and I don’t think that every art scholar in the world is paid off in some grand conspiracy.

Rather, I just think that either the national treasures never left their vaults or that some national treasures actually were lost to history but they were copied.

4. The OJ theory…

O.J. Simpson didn’t do it, it was Jason Simpson.

Nicole Brown was nearly decapitated and Ron Goldman was stabbed 20+ times and had numerous defensive wounds. The prosecution claimed the injuries were consistent with two knives being used and produced a stiletto knife -good for stabbing but not cutting- and a Swiss Army knife -not really good for hurting anyone other than yourself. O.J. had only a small cut on his hand with no other evidence of having been in a fight. The only blood found in his home were a few drops of his own blood which were contaminated with a preservative used in blood draws.

Jason did it: Means: Jason was employed as a sous-chef and had his own knife set, and also owned a double-edged combat knife.

Motive: Jason was cooking alone at his restaurant that night and had specifically invited Nicole to come see him cook. She stood him up and went to Mezzaluna where Ron Goldman worked. Jason was known to be bothered by Nicole seeing men other than his father.

Opportunity: Jason’s timecard that night was handwritten for a time much later than when the restaurant shut down. His alibi changed multiple times, but the last time anyone can definitely account for him is around 9:30 that night.

The kicker? The day after the murders, O.J. retained one of L.A.’s top criminal defense attorneys for Jason and did not hire his own defense attorney until several days later.

5. The Unabomber was made by the government?!

When Ted Kaczynski (the unabomber) was at Harvard, he participated in a brutal psychological experiment led by professor Henry Murray. The experiment lasted for three years and by many accounts they seemed to have an extreme impact on Kaczynski’s psyche. I think this experiment was part of the CIA’s MKUltra project and destabilized Kaczynski enough to where he eventually went on his reign of terror of sending bombed packages around the country.

During the MKUltra project, the CIA collaborated with university professors on these mind-control experiments but a lot of the documentation was destroyed when people started to look into it.

TL;DR: The unabomber participated in an experiment that was a part of the MKULtra project that eventually led to him becoming a mass-murderer.

6. They’re listening….

All my devices listen in on me.

The other day I was arguing with my Dad about some chicken I thought had gone off (it was frozen for about a month so we weren’t too sure but my Dad was insistent that it was still edible).

Dad decided to ask Google, and low and behold the related searches even from the first letter were: “Is chicken edible after being frozen for a month” and “How long can you freeze chicken before it goes off”.

Also, my Mum and I use this tactic where if we need to ring up a company about something and it puts us in a queue, we swear at it. It then puts you on a priority list and you don’t have to wait as long.

Kinda sketchy on the company’s behalf.

7. What goes on up there?

I believe there is a ridiculous amount of pedophilia among the upper echelons of society.

Whether it is uncovered in the Catholic Church, British parliament, Hollywood, Washington DC, Saudi Arabia, the mainstream media doesn’t seem interested in shining a light on the networks and procurers who allow this practice to thrive.

Remember when Sacha Baron Cohen inadvertently uncovered an underage sex service in las vegas? Imagine the demand required for this heinous practice to exist. Offered by the concierge no less.

Who is the mystery party requesting secrecy in Jeff Epstein’s sex trafficking suit?

Why was Johnny Rotten banned from the BBC for attempting to expose Jimmy Savile for sickening crimes against children?

These types of stories are far too common, and they do not receive the attention they deserve.

8. Flight 370

Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 wasn’t an accident.

There were definitely external forces that catalyzed its disappearance.

The flight path was diverted many times and there was a lot of shady stuff about some of the passengers and the pilot of Flight 370.

We may never know unless the plane is found.

9. The never-ending war…

That the USA deliberately gets into an armed conflict every decade or so for the purpose of ensuring that at any given time, they always have a critical mass of soldiers with actual combat experience.

They get in a lot of conflicts, and it seems highly probable that the leadership of a country that spends so much on national defense would highly value the institutional knowledge that comes from that kind of continuity of practical experience, even if it comes at a high human cost.

10. Michael?!?

Sony killed Michael Jackson.

He owned the rights to the Beatles discography.

After he died, Sony had remastered versions of every Beatles album available days after MJ’s estate sold the rights to Sony.

There’s no way they could have remastered the albums and published the CDs in that short amount of time.

11. The art market…

I believe that modern/minimalistic art exists solely for money laundering. It’s just a way for rich people to move money around. There’s a reason why paintings of plain geometric shapes sell for millions of dollars, and it’s not because the buyers are really into shapes.

It’s actually more of a loophole than a conspiracy. All countries, and most cities have “free port” zones. Free ports are areas, usually near a port where goods can be stored duty free because they are ultimately bound for another country.

HOWEVER, these “free ports” can also be used to store art. Art with incredible value, crated away never to been seen again. These free ports become untaxable, untraceable banks for the ultra wealthy.

This is a real thing.

I wanna be an oligarch, i hate having to play by the rules

12. And finally… this insane one about the Titanic

The Titanic/Olympic conspiracy.

It has credibility because there is photographic evidence. It’s really one of the only conspiracy theories I put much belief in.

The sister ships (and their third counterpart, the Britannic) were owned by White Star Line. The Olympic was put into service in June, 1911. She collided with another ship, the HMS Hawke, in September of 1911 and both ships were badly damaged. The accident was a financial disaster for White Star Line, as they were found to be liable for the accident and had to pay for the damages to both ships and legal fees for court cases associated with the accident. Repairs on the Olympic took nearly two months and parts intended for the Titanic, which was still being built during this time, had to be given to the Olympic instead. Only a few weeks after being returned to service, the Olympic suffered another minor incident where one of the propellers broke off and pieces intended for the Titanic were once again cannibalized.

At this point, the Olympic was looking like more and more of a money-drain for the White Star Line, though its achievement in not actually sinking despite a major accident that should have sunk it cemented the Olympic-class liner’s reputation as “unsinkable”, but I’ll get back to that in a moment.

The Titanic was finally finished and ready to leave port on her maiden voyage on April 10, 1912, having been delayed while new parts were made and delivered to replace the ones needed for the Olympic, and from there we all know the story. She went first to France, and then to Ireland, and then began her trek across the Atlantic to New York, during which she struck an iceberg and after nearly two hours, sank, taking 1,500 souls with her to a cold, watery grave that would not be seen again by human eyes for nearly a hundred years.

The Olympic went on to have a 24-year career as a successful ocean liner. She served during World War 1 where she earned the nickname Old Reliable for her impenetrable hull, and then in 1919 she was re-outfitted to be a civilian passenger ship and served as an ocean liner until 1935, when she was retired from the fleet. Her ownership changed hands several times and she was eventually dismantled and sold for scrap metal.

But what if it wasn’t the Titanic that sank? What if it was actually the Olympic? What if it was a ploy to remove a faulty ship that was costing them more money than she was bringing in for White Star Line and cash in on her million-pound insurance policy?

So here is the conspiracy theory. At some point after the Titanic was completed, they switched the identities of the ships. The new “Titanic” was actually the Olympic and the “Olympic” was actually the brand-spanking-new Titanic, fresh from the construction yard with zero problems and zero history. They intended for the “Titanic” to suffer some sort of failure that would result in the destruction of the problem ship so they could collect the insurance money. I doubt they intended to also cause the deaths of 1,500 people; the events that transpired which led to the sinking of the “Titanic” possibly happened purely by chance and the iceberg wasn’t part of their plan (i.e., they didn’t hire the captain to specifically ram the iceberg to sink the ship or anything like that). They probably had another plan involving the repairs that had already been made on the ship when it collided with the HMS Hawke.

In any case, it wasn’t really the Titanic that left port on April 10, 1912 — it was the Olympic.

After the sinking of the “Titanic,” White Star Line received a tidy sum of £1,000,000 in insurance money (or £89,289,575 in today’s money). This, of course, ruined the insurer, Lloyd’s of London. There’s an additional conspiracy theory that American financier and banker J. P. Morgan was in on this whole scheme; his company, J. P. Morgan & Co., financed the International Mercantile Marine Company in the hopes of becoming rich off of sea travel, but this turned out to be a bad investment because of the unpredictable nature of sea travel and travelers themselves. J. P. Morgan or one of his associates may have schemed with White Star Line, who was a subsidiary of this IMMC, in order to bankrupt the IMMC and allow J. P. Morgan & Co. to withdraw from the IMMC without breaking a contract. I cannot provide evidence for this beyond speculation.

However, I can provide evidence that backs up my claim that the two ships were switched and it was the Olympic who sank, not the Titanic.

This is an image of the RMS Olympic in drydock (I am currently unable to locate a picture of the Olympic while under construction with the name clear so you can be sure it definitely is the Olympic — I can only assume such a photo doesn’t exist):

http://www.greatships.net/scans/PC-OL35.jpg

Check out the very top row of portholes in the white railing. Count them. Look closely at the grouping of the last five portholes and how they are clustered with two close together, one set apart, and two more close together.

This is an image of the RMS Titanic being built:

http://cdn.history.com/sites/2/2014/01/titanic-bow-construction.jpg

Look at the top-most portholes in the railing on the Titanic. Count them too. Look at the last five portholes and see that they are evenly spaced apart.

This is a picture of the “Titanic” before leaving on its maiden voyage. Check out the portholes in question:

https://timmyatt.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/titanic-harbour.jpg

Here is the “Olympic” in New York after the sinking of the “Titanic”:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/18/Olympic_in_New_York_cropped.jpg/1280px-Olympic_in_New_York_cropped.jpg

There is no reason why the ship builders would have changed the portholes on the Titanic when they were nearly done building it. That piece was not one of the pieces cannibalized from the Titanic to repair the Olympic that would have needed to be replaced by a different piece. The only answer is that the ship in the final picture, which is the ship that left port on April 10, 1912, and was met with a terrible fate near Newfoundland, was not the Titanic, but actually the Olympic. You can find pictures from newspapers further supporting this, as they clearly show the name of the ship and the wrong number/orientation of portholes.

I doubt we’ll ever know one way or another, since the wreck at the bottom of the Atlantic is quickly being covered with sediment and will be completely buried and inaccessible soon and pieces of the ship that was retired in 1935 and dismantled in 1937 are both difficult to find and difficult to authenticate, and anybody who might be able to either confirm or deny this theory are all dead.

If that last one didn’t satisfy your thirst for conspiracy theories, I don’t know what will!

So… do you believe in any of these? Have a better one to share?

People Think These Behaviors Totally Scream “I’m Insecure!”

Most of us worry too much about how we come off around other people. What they think about us, whether or not they like us, that sort of thing.

And if you’re someone who needs other people to at least respect you in a business capacity, well, then appearing confident and cool is probably extra important to you.

So, here are 15 behaviors the people of Reddit say you should definitely avoid.

15. Power trips are a dead giveaway.

I mostly see this at work.

– People who are in upper management and treat people like garbage just because they can.

– Being unnecessarily mean, rude or bitter to people.

– Treating new employees like garbage just because you’re threatened they might take your job some day.

14. Sometimes it just is.

People who automatically assume that if you disagree with them, you must have a subjective, personal reason to do so, if possible even related to your own insecurities. Simply not true.

13. Good intentions aren’t actually worth a whole lot.

I’ve found that a lot of people on Twitter that feel the need to post about how great of a person they are and they have nothing but good intentions are usually the most toxic people I’ve seen

12. Those poor children.

I deal with insecure moms a lot, either at the playground or mommy groups. They’re insecure about what milestones their child is hitting and how they are doing as a mother.

One of the biggest tells is when they brag about something that’s clearly a lie, or even a partial truth.

“My 3 year old is reading at a first grade level!” Ok but he’s eating grass right now and just pooped himself.

You see it a lot on social media now.

“My 20 month old is potty trained!” Having several accidents a day and needing a diaper whenever she sleeps is not potty trained.

Yeah moms are pretty judgy and many mommy groups are toxic but most of can tell when you’re lying and it screams insecure.

11. Don’t compare yourself to others.

Just not shutting up about yourself. Constantly lifting yourself up and comparing yourself to others, while pushing them down.

10. If you’re good at something, people will figure it out on their own.

Constantly wedging “humble bragging” into conversations.

9. If you think it is, you’re probably right.

This is a self roast but I think I degrade myself just to hear others deny it, is that insecure?

8. Just say no to this crap if you want to be happy.

When people have and insist on constantly checking on their SO via some tracking app on their phone.

It’s one thing to have it and use it in case of emergency, but using it while out with your friends to make sure he’s actually at work is creepy and super insecure.

7. Try not to over think it.

When you question yourself “do they actually like me or are they pretending to?” or when you think you’re gonna bother other people if you talk to them

Edit: Jesus Christ. I wasn’t expecting so many replies.

I hope you all are doing great.

6. Life isn’t a competition.

People who always have to one up you in everything if you tell a story they have a better one, if you buy something expensive they have to be something even more expensive. Some people’s whole life is trying to win some non existent competition.

5. Try to see the glass half full.

Automatically assuming negative intent.

eg:

You friend didn’t pick your call?

“Fuck her, she’s trying to avoid me. I don’t care about her anyway.”

4. You shouldn’t have to try so hard.

Trying to dominate conversations (not to be confused with just being a charismatic person).

3. Most people aren’t lookin for the bad.

As an insecure person, I find it hard to look people in the eyes. I also find it hard to tell any stories about myself, because I’m afraid people will think I’m lying, or that I won’t be part of the group because of personal differences. I always think everyone is better than me; I can see all the good in everybody, but I know that they see all the bad in me. Insecure people stand in the corner and don’t join the group.

2. Like who you are now.

I used to be very insecure so I’ll go from my own experience. Lying about something to seem cool. It’s very obviously a signal of insecurity because they don’t like who they are now.

1. The vague posts are the worst.

All those people who post on Facebook those quotes that are like: ‘don’t worry about those who talk behind your back, they’re behind you for a reason’

Or they tag themselves into any and EVERY place including the docs/hospital/somewhere personal. Then when someone asks if they’re ok they reply with: ‘don’t ask hun xoxox’

Urgh so basically. People who live their lives through very active social media’s I suppose I’m trying to say.

I’m surprised by some of these, but I think they’re spot on!

How do you spot insecurity? Is it an important trait to sniff out? Let us know in the comments!

People Share What They Have Absolutely Zero Sympathy for

Do you have things that make your blood boil and you have ZERO SYMPATHY for the people who commit them? Maybe it’s littering, bad drivers, etc.?

Whatever they are, share yours in the comments so we can see what gets everybody out there extremely PO’d.

AskReddit users did not hold back in their responses.

1. No litterbugs allowed.

“People who litter. One that really boils my piss is whenever it’s a nice sunny day, we don’t go to our local beaches. Hell none of the locals do in the holidays, because they’re packed with literal bus loads of tourists coming in from the cities, bringing their entire extended families to cause chaos and havoc everywhere. And the litter they leave is insane. It’s worse than some of the festivals I’ve been to.”

2. Don’t listen to other people.

“People who make fun of other people starting new things. Makes people leave hobbies that could’ve been their favourite thing to in their spare time. Made me lose interest in speed-cubing, because that community can be pretty toxic to new people.”

3. Can you help me out?

“People that go to foreign countries with strict and unreasonable consequences for minor infractions that expect their home country to bail them out when they they try to steal something/commit a crime (in the eyes of the country they are in). I feel bad for their families for having a such a stupid relative.”

4. On to the impound lot.

“People who get towed when they leave their car running in the fire lane in front of supermarkets.”

5. Always the victim.

“People who act like the victim with everything, after dating one for a while it finally hits you how cancerous it is, it weighed on my mental health and I almost went to a psyche ward, her ghosting me was the best thing to ever happen to me last year.”

6. Maybe you should stop having kids?

“People who won’t stop having kids even though all you hear from them is griping about how they have no money or a life of their own or they’re tired all the time or they say stuff like “but this is so haaaaard”. Don’t act surprised that that kind of shit happens once you start having kids; it’s some of the most common frigging knowledge in the world. And don’t start palming off your younger kids on your older ones all the time, either; you wanted a baseball team, you gotta coach ’em all.

(This is not about parents whose older children want to help or have some responsibilities like helping their siblings with tying shoes and whatall. This is about parents whose older kids don’t get to be kids because they are too busy raising their siblings.)”

7. These people are the worst.

“People who take their anger out on people who can’t defend themselves. doesn’t matter if it’s customer service people, their spouse, their kids, some homeless person, an animal… just get your shit together and deal with your own problems instead of becoming someone else’s.”

8. Just be nice to everyone.

“People who treat everybody like garbage then complain about being lonely. Like, I’m not getting paid to be here. If you act like a dick I’m leaving.”

9. I’ll be with you…later.

“Guests who sit down and aren’t served within 30 seconds even though I acknowledged them while helping another guest: “HELLO? CAN I GET SOME SERVICE HERE??” “

10. This drives me INSANE.

“Needing to listen to music badly enough that you play your phone speaker on public transportation.”

11. It’s okay to say no.

“I have zero sympathy for a parent that never says no to their child.”

12. Not going to associate with you.

“Manipulators. As soon as I see you trying to bend someone’s actions/emotions towards your gain, we don’t need to associate anymore.”

13. Don’t sweat the little stuff.

“People who lose their shit over things that don’t matter for example when McDonalds runs out of sauce.”

14. I’m with this.

“I entirely lack sympathy for people that abuse animals and kids or the elderly. In fact, those people actually inspire homicidal tendencies whenever I hear about their bullshit.”

15. Too lazy to move your hand?

“People who do not use their blinker while driving. Why? You’re too lazy to move your hand for a second? You expect everyone else on the road to read your mind?”

People Share What They Think Are the Worst Legal Things You Can Do

You can do a lot of terrible things in this world that are totally legal.

Things that most of us would never dream of doing. And they might infuriate you…

AskReddit users shared their thoughts on the subject.

1. That’s pretty infuriating.

“You can leak the names, addresses, email addresses, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, and payment card details of nearly half of all Americans (and more than half of all American adults) and then settle for about $5/person.”

2. Makes my blood boil.

“Permanently destroying huge swaths of land.

There’s a development corporation in my hometown that has bought up virtually all of the remaining woods, meadows and wetlands in the area, paved them, and built retail spaces that go vacant just a few months later.

Businesses aren’t even moving into these “office parks”, but the group just keeps spreading out and “developing”. It seems like every month, I drive past another leveled tract of land.”

3. Whoa, that’s kind of intense.

“Groom your stepdaughter for over a decade, then when she’s 18, divorce her mom and hook up with your stepdaughter.”

4. It is pretty bad.

“I think it’s pretty shitty to claim bodily harm from a very minor car accident just to get 10k, and make the other person pay more for their car insurance. I’m looking at you, lady I hit going 3 mph.

Probably not the worst thing, but it’s pretty bad.”

5. Who the hell does this?

“Take custody of a pet in a divorce and the. Put the pet down out of spite.”

6. Ouch…

“Recruit people to join Scientology.”

7. If not…that…

“Is it illegal to leave your shopping cart in the parking lot instead of returning it to the corral? If not, that.”

8. People are pretty sh*tty.

“Sue your poorer ex spouse for child custody so repeatedly that you drain their finances and can’t fight it anymore.”

9. A lot of this out there.

“Steal people’s money through fine print conditions.”

10. Not a good idea.

“Ruin the world economy by handing out subprime loans.”

11. That’s not cool.

“Nestle claiming rights to water and then selling it back to the public at exorbitant prices all while polluting the earth with the production of single-use plastic bottles.”

12. Sign of the times.

“Fire all your employees and move your business to East Asia so you can essentially use slave labor.”

13. Does this sound familiar?

“Start a pharmaceutical company.

Develop a drug that people need to live.

Raise the price just because you know they’ll pay for it if they don’t want to die.”

14. Bullying and abusing.

“Bully someone. Mentally abuse someone. Making them feel bad about themselves their whole life.”

15. Vaccines do not cause autism.

“Not vaccinating your kids.”

15 Parents Who Have Disowned Kids Share Their Stories

For almost all parents, at least I’d imagine, the idea of disowning your own child is unfathomable. We can’t imagine a day or an event could ever come that would interrupt our constant flow of love, or our desire to keep them close enough to protect.

These 15 parents decided that’s not true, though – that there are limits to what they’re willing to accept – and they were willing to put their stories out there on Reddit.

15. A tragic tale from the past.

Not me, but my great grandma. This story is really sad but also interesting, so I thought I’d share it.
She was a young creole teenager- french creole was her first language, and she was a quarter-to-half black like me, with tan skin and loose brown curls. She was born in Florida, but when things started getting worse for black people in Florida, her family relocated to Texas. For those who don’t know, creole people tend to play heavily into colorism. Although they are definitely mixed race, they prioritize light skinned people. The looser your curl, the lighter your skin, the more white you look, the better. Her parents had high expectations for her to marry a wealthy, light skinned man who would take care of her.

Instead, she met my great grandfather. A poor, dark-skinned man jumping from job to job working for farmers and trying to make a living. The two of them fell in love. They were just teenagers. Her parents threatened to disown her if she continued seeing him, and like a rebellious teenager, she refused. They wanted her to do better. She wanted to be in love.

They might have broken up eventually, if she didn’t get pregnant. But she did, and that was the end of it. Her parents basically said “you’ve ruined your life” and disowned her right there. The whole family disowned her. No one would speak to her- aunts, uncles, cousins, not a single person stood up for her. So she had no choice. The two of them moved to California, so he could get a job picking oranges. He built a house. They had their first daughter. She was 16. She never saw her family again.

14. Everyone’s safety matters.

I love my son, but he abused me. When he turned that violence on to his sister by choking her, I had to say “Good-bye”.

13. Some people think they’re owed everything.

since it seems to have widened a bit, a family torn apart. Based on an aunt and her niece.

Aunt starts signs of dementia at a relatively young age, is moved into an assisted living home. Niece (who bounces around jobs) gets hirex to go visit her about once a week, take her out to the mall or a walk in the park, whatever. Paid handsomely.

We get an alert that aunt has a check bounce from her account that should have $5k in it. Niece has drained the account. Proven beyond a doubt, with receipts. Niece would take aunt to aunt’s bank machine every friday and withdraw $200, then fill her car with gas (aunt can’t drive), and charge us hours when she clearly didn’t spend hours with aunt (charged us claiming she took aunt to appointments – there was no appointment. We can actually call the doctor fyi).

The family rift? For some bizarre reason niece’s family took her side.

12. When every day is harder than the one before it.

I wouldn’t say I’ve disowned or stopped loving my son, but it’s real tough to find love for him. He’s almost 14 (next month) and he’s currently out of our home at a treatment facility. He’s averaged two arrests a year for the last two years, and he’s attacked my wife several times, our daughters several times, and the neighborhood kids several times. He’s run away from school, run away from home, and tried to push me off the roof of our house (after threatening to jump off and hurt himself). We have become “that family” in our town where the police are called to our home on a semi-regular basis. He’s been getting more violent as he gets older (not to mention bigger and stronger) and I honestly don’t see an end in sight.

The key fact I’m leaving out is that he’s been diagnosed as high functioning autistic and is also bipolar. That’s like putting walls around a tornado and expecting it to stay inside the walls. A lot of what has occurred he had little control over because of the way his mind is (where he’s constantly at war with himself, structure versus chaos), and my wife and I have tried desperately to give him the best life we can while keeping ourselves and our daughters safe, but I’m tired. It’s been 8 and a half years we’ve been going through this with him and I’ve been ready to throw in the towel on him for a while. But my wife refuses to let him go, so we wake up every morning trying to give him the best life for him and our girls.

11. Time can heal some wounds.

I am not sure if this counts. I didn’t disown him, but I went through a dissociative episode after some really intense trauma, and I honestly couldn’t feel any attachment and parental love that I had for my son. I tried not to show it, and behave as normally as possible because he was a child at the time and couldn’t possibly understand what I was going through. It was pretty disturbing to not be able to feel any sense of bond with him. I eventually got better, but I definitely did not feel what I or most people would call love for him.

10. Sometimes you have to think of the other children.

I’m not a parent, I’ve never disowned a child. My parents disowned my oldest sister. I’m the youngest of three girls. My oldest sister had a horrible relationship with my father, blames me for getting in the way of their relationship. She had her first baby (to spite him) when she was 16 years old. My father refused to give her money because she met a deadbeat child predator, and got pregnant again, the again, and again. She constantly put herself and deadbeat before kids. Dad would send money to girls for Christmas and birthdays and never heard a thing, he finally gave up… She’s 30, has six daughters, and lives in a mobile home in North Carolina.

We hadn’t seen or heard from my sister until June of this year. My oldest niece contacted me asking to come to Florida (where I live) for the summer to get her and her sisters out of the trailor. I agree, contact sister and she agrees, I set up plane tickets and organize the rooms they’ll stay in. When they got here, they were completely disheveled. Clothes visibly dirty, smelled foul, so covered in lice that my white towels stained gray from removing them. My niece informed me that they had been without water and electricity for 6 months. They live in a 2 bedroom mobile home, there are holes in the roof, bugs and rats everywhere. As a family, we decide the girls aren’t going back to North Carolina.

We tell my sister to come to my parents house in Florida to get her life together and get back on her feet. She refused because deadbeat is not invited. Ironically, she found out that deadbeat is cheating on her. She confronts him and he kicks her out of shit hole trailer. Deadbeat said “I would rather be homeless than live with you”. Sister now works for the dollar store and doesn’t pull her weight with kids. At least the girls are safe now…

9. It’s not easy to do what’s best for everyone.

My parents disowned my oldest sister. She always struggled growing up more than us (she became a teen mom with a bad older dude, partied a lot, etc), but my parents helped her a lot. They do okay for themselves, but had a no-co-signing rule for all six of my siblings and I. Still, they co-signed for her house so she could get a head start.

She didn’t pay the mortgage for almost 3 years before my mom got served in front of all the other nurses at her work.

My parents worked tirelessly to try to work out deals where my sister and her family kept the house and got some leniency, but to no avail, because my sister never showed up for court dates. During this time, she paid $12k for IVF and got pregnant with her fifth kid.

When my mom demanded some of the money back, she accused my dad and my brother of beating her sons when my parents took them to Disney World (he didn’t) and said she’d file a police report if he asked for money again. They kept asking, cause it wasn’t true.

She awkwardly joined us for Christmas, and punched my brother in the face during the meal for “humiliating” her oldest son by asking him if he wanted to work at my brother’s company for good pay. Her oldest son is in and out of jail, and my brother was trying to help him after his release, but her son said he didn’t want a job and got mad. She then called the cops and told them the same brother had illegal guns in his truck, and they came on Christmas night and searched his truck (no guns found!)

Needless to say, she is not welcome anywhere near any of us and my mom still cries about it, but refuses to talk to her again.

8. Impossible to understand how one could do that to a little baby.

My ex wife disowned my son.

We both married young when I was in the military (high school sweethearts). She became pregnant 6 months into our marriage. I don’t think she connected with him at all after he was born. The most she did with him was Instagram photo shoots where she painted herself as #1 mommy. When he turned 3, I left the military. A year after that, she ran for the hills. I remember it like it was yesterday. I sat down with her at a local restaurant to talk divorce plans. We split all of our financials and material items down the middle. We finally got to custody for my kiddo (something I dreaded to discuss because fathers never gain custody in my area) and she tells me “I want absolutely no responsibility”. I was taken back and I asked if she was sure. She was. That one sentence hurt me more than anything else that happen during that time. My biological father wanted nothing to do with me and now I was seeing it happen with my own child but with his mother. I received full custody and she married within a year afterwards (she had another child too). Her parents try their best to be apart of his life but she still does her best to avoid him. He’s 7 now and used to it, but I know it weights heavily on him. Shit sucks ass but it’s life I guess.

*I just woke up and saw all the upvotes, messages, comments, and awards. I want to say thank you so much. I didn’t expect this level of response. I don’t usually share something as personal as that. My kiddo is a very awesome kid that has shown great resiliency beyond his years. He has rolled through the tough times better than even I. I can just hope he doesn’t question his worth because of what his mom did. I know I questioned mine due to my own father leaving and that has left scars that will not heal. Well…..thank you all again and you all have a wonderful day.

7. Some things just don’t turn out the way you hope.

Not my kid, but my sister I raised for several years. I was a senior in HS when my parents had my sister – completely unexpected. They were 58 and 55. I never really got to know her much as I went away to college when she was 5 months old, and was in the Air Force by the time she was 1 1/2. I saw her twice on leave, and got pics, but the way life was working out we never really got time together. Fast forward, our dad dies when she is 2, and my stepmother is raising her. She was a terrible parent, like the kind that saw one of her kids run away at 16 to halfway across the country, another runaway at 15 and get married, and one that is just a loon who spent his life bouncing around whatever hot MLM program was out there as a career. She also convinced my dad to send me to a pray away the gay camp in TN. when I was 15. So when my sister was 11 and begging for help, I took leave and went to her. Surprisingly, my stepmonster was happy to get attorneys to draw up the paperwork for me to become my sisters guardian, and even pay for it.

— So I’m raising my sister and things are okay until she is about 14. Then I caught her doing these videos online talking dirty trying to get guys to jerk off. So that was a mess of trying to get those down and suing the people that hired her to do them.– Ran away for a week, hiding out at a friends house, found her when she was caught shoplifting.– A B&E charge at 14, trying to steal the phone of a boy she was dating to se if he was talking to other girls. It happened on base and I managed to talk it out of being a bigger thing.– A second B&E charge with friends breaking into the NCO club to try to steal beer. I was told I had to leave base housing at that point, my secuirty clearance was suspended to make sure she wasn’t putting me in a position I could be compromised.– still 14, arrested with a stolen military ID trying to get into a bar.– 15 escapes rehab.– 15 escapes rehab again-16 things seem good and she is taking school seriously.

At 18 she was accepted to RISD, graduated with honors, and had an actual decent paying job with a web company with benefits and everything. Started getting stoned a lot, lost her job. Sold her car to pay bills. Lost her apartment, still hadn’t bothered looking for work. Got her trust fund at 24, blew over $400k in two years, nothing to show for it. Had multiple cases against her for drugs. Was restricted to the state, but decised to go follow Phish around anyway and sell molly. Got picked up for hooking and possession out of state, was returned to RI where she was detained and somehow released pending trial yet again. While awaiting trial she was caught holding enough packaged for sale heroin to qualify as a distribution charge.By then, I hadn’t heard from her for almost 7 years, and only managed to keep up with her reading the police blotter or from rthe ocassional attorney that she had contact me to verify I would pick up her legal tab – I wouldn’t. Against any logic, she was out of prison in under three years. I heard she dimed a bunch of people out to make it happen. She showed up at my house, asking for a place to stay. I said I couldn’t have her in my house, but I’d get her a place for the night and then help her locate a place of her own. That night she broke into my house, nearly got shot by me while doing it, and tried to spin some story that she was looking for something she dropped in my house earlier that day, despite never actually entering my house. I told her she had to go, she threatened she would call DCFS and tell them I was abusing my kids if I didn’t go with her to an ATM and give her all the money I could withdraw. Told her to GTFO before I exercised the castle defense law and dropped her.

took out a restraining order the next day, and in doing so found she once again left state when she wasn’t supposed to have and violated her parole, so back to the clink. Since then she’s been dead to me.

6. It’s impossible to stand by and watch them self-destruct.

A little different, I was disowned, but I deserved it. I was an addict and a mess for a long time, my mom couldn’t keep bailing me out of trouble and watch me self destruct anymore. I wasn’t living at home, she came to see me one last time to tell me she was done, not to contact her, she would no longer have anything to do with me. She was in pieces, I can’t imagine how hard it must have been for her. But it was the best thing she ever did for me, once she cut me off my rock bottom came hard and fast. After a little while of living on the streets and my addiction consuming me, I made my way to a detox center, got a few days clean under my belt and never looked back. That was almost 15 years ago. After I was clean a little while I contacted my mom, and little by little we built a relationship again, and now we’re really close. I am forever grateful to my mom for letting me fall and letting me back into her life.

5. The love never goes away.

she started stealing from us as a kid, then it moved up to forged checks, stole her sisters Christmas gifts. Then there were the multiple arrests, conversion, theft, assault, drugs. The final straw was when she dumped her kid and left town to fool with a married man for several years. Kid is 11, he has had a long haul. Everything she say is just a bunch of lies and more lies. And Yes she has had counselling numerous times. It hurts but it is more peaceful, did I mention the identity theft? Christ, that took a real long time to fix.

edit: she is my step daughter, met her when she was 8, I still love her a lot

4. That is some horribly despicable behavior during a hard time.

My mother and her sister were both adopted into a great family.

Recently, my Grandfather fell ill and we were told to prepare to say goodbye. So the family gathered. My Grandmother has had a hard time with her memory since she had a brain hemorrhage, but she welcomed my aunt into her home during this tough time.

Whilst my Grandfather was in his final week, Wendy (aunt) took my Grandmother’s atm card and proceeded to spend well over a thousand dollars on herself and get herself a motel room. She alsp attempted to steal their car. When my uncles found out, she basically disappeared into the wind.

After my Grandfather passed and his funeral was all sorted. My Grandmother went to an attorney to write Wendy out of any inheritance she would get from their estate when she passes. She didnt press any formal charges, because the whole process would have been lengthy and more painful for her. She didn’t need the extra stress.

I’m pretty sure one of my uncles also threatened Wendy to make sure she stayed away from my Grandmother from now on too.

3. You have to take care of you.

My family disowned me because I disowned my mother. I was sexually groomed and abused/tortured by her husband for years and when I finally told her she not only didn’t believe me, but stayed married to him for seven years. I had to move out at 16 to get away from how I was being treated. Then when I finally began speaking to others she started to cover her ass with her social circle by telling them that I seduced her husband.

I cut her off for years, and didn’t ever want to see her again but my family bullied me to just get over it and have a relationship with my mother and that I was hurting her. Even my sister who knew what happened, knew I stayed for so long to protect her, fell into a trap of my mother whining to everyone around her and painting me as a liar. About 4 years ago she was very suddeny diagnosed with advanced cancer and didn’t have much time. I was moving out of my home state and everyone told me I needed to see her before I left, that I needed to be there, but I didn’t want to. In the end everyone turned their back on me. They were so mad I wouldn’t just forget my trauma just to say goodbye to someone I hadn’t loved for a long time, and rightly so.

EDIT: I’m getting a lot of replies so I just want to say thank you and send you all virtual hugs. I’m ok now, I’m grown up and though I was set back in a lot of ways life-wise I came out on top for the best. Anyone who is also experiencing this you aren’t alone, and if you need to talk I’m here.

2. Talk about losing the lottery.

My parents didn’t “disown” me… I was just a weird mistake. My mother never wanted a child. She bailed after a few months.

My father was a single parent and ended up in prison (life without parole) when I was 14. I finally met my mother. She was a police detective by the time I moved in with her. She threw me out after two months.

I am 30 now, and life is typically a little weird around the holidays, but I always get a good laugh when I tell people that my father is in prison for life and my mother is a cop. But then they get super awkward when I tell them that no… it’s not a joke.

It took a long time for me to come to terms with it, but I know now that none of it was my fault.

EDIT: This blew up way more than I expected. Thanks for all the kind words, everybody!

1. You never know what you’re going to get when you decide to have children.

I have disowned my oldest son. He molested my daughter, has been diagnosed as a sociopath and we have restraining orders against him. It isn’t fun and I never thought I would be that parent.

Never judge a person until you walk a mile in their shoes and all of that!

15 People Share What They’d Say If They Were Able to Talk to Themselves 10 Years Ago

This question is probably going to elicit some very interesting and very painful answers.

AskReddit users answered this question:

“If you could call yourself 10 years ago and speak for 1minute, what would you say?”

What would you tell yourself 10 years ago? Share your thoughts in the comments!

1. Might not be there in 10 years.

“Enjoy that hair while you still can.”

2. That’s gotta hurt.

“For the love of god get your drivers license, if you don’t you’re going to get hit by a car.”

3. Don’t be scared…

“Oh god..I would say…”Dont be scared, get an education and find a good job.” Now I’m stuck in a miserable retail job.”

4. Just do it!

“Finish school, you asshole.”

5. Stay away from Susan

“Do not date Susan, she will ruin your life.”

6. Two major points.

“Invest in Apple and you aren’t marrying that girl you’re seeing right now.”

7. A rambler and a gambler

“Put all of your money in bitcoin. Oh yeah Patriots win Super Bowl 49, 51, and 53. Put your life savings on each one.”

8. Be in charge of your own life.

“Don’t live your life according to what your mom wants you to do. Do what you want to do.”

9. Take some deep breaths.

“Bro, you need to chill out, it gets worse.”

10. “That’s no way to go through life.”

“Relax and enjoy. You’re worthy of the experience.

About 10 years ago, I got my job at Google and the worst part of the experience were my insecurities. I was a 49-year old (ancient by Google standards), self-taught programmer. I got my non-programming degree from a back-woods school but, to make up for it, I got really, REALLY crappy grades. I had no big-data experience and, at the time, I hadn’t programmed in any of Google’s 4 development languages (C++, Python, Java, and JavaScript). Add all this to my normal insecurities and I really felt like I was outclassed by everyone else at the company. I spent every day expecting to be fired for gross incompetence.

That’s no way to go through life. The experience would have been _so_ much better if I’d just ignored my insecurities. I still would have been dumbest fucking programmer at Google but I would have, at least, been much, much happier.”

11. This is sad.

“Tell your dad he has to go to the doctor to check his heart – it will save his life.”

12. Let people know how you feel.

“Tell mom and grandma you love them! They won’t be here in 10 years.”

13. Don’t even start.

“For the love of god, don’t start drinking. It’ll destroy you.”

14. A lot to take in here.

“Don’t move to the coast – it ends horribly and you’ll get stabbed.

Put down the drugs, you’ll regret it in 5 years.

Go to the dentist, that shit is important.

Go see your Nanny. She dies in 2 years, and you’ll miss her more than you realise.

Don’t drink at your Mums wedding. She still loves you, but hot damn you hurt her.

Be nice to your sister. She’s going through a lot too. She won’t tell you, but she needs you.

Most importantly – go back to school, Eliza. Get your education. You’ll need it when you’re a 21 year old single mum struggling to support yourself and a toddler.”

15. Do something for yourself.

“Your friends will leave you. Your girlfriend will leave you. Your job doesn’t matter. Don’t waste your time and energy on people that will forget about you in 10 years. Do something for yourself. Do it because you want to do it, not because you hope other people will like you for it. Live like you mean it. Forget the haters.”

Garbage Collectors Come Clean About the Stuff People Throw Away

The stuff people throw away can be truly shocking.

And it’s not just the amount of money we spend on things that we just pitch in the trash. People seem to think that garbage bags somehow shield them from being arrested… because A LOT of illegal shit gets thrown away for ANYBODY to find.

These 14 garbage collectors know this all too well, and they’re not shy about divulging what they found!

Let’s go!

1. So many different things in just 8 months!

I worked ~8 months while waiting to go to school in my small southern town.

Summary of interesting things I found go as follows: $20, bullets, a live snake, a fully working 400$ amp (which I now use for my speaker setup), and a small bag of marijuana, and a can literally full of adult toys and open DVDs.

2. Thanks history professor. Or should I say… history thief!

We used to pull the recyclables out of the dumpsters by our rental condo in California. Found a Naval officer’s sword, a nice set of cast iron skillets, plus a fantastic handmade leather chair. Still have those in my home. Lots of clothes with tags, pretty sure the residents one unit over were shoplifters and thieves; we took that stuff to the thrift shops.

Then there was Big Trash Day in Japan once a quarter. Fully working treadle sewing machine with a cast iron base, ceramic hibachi pot, marvelous glass and lacquer cases, a giant yellow quartz gem set in silver. A full set of WWII photos and albums, including a Kamikaze farewell party, but a history professor “borrowed” those to examine and never got them back to me.

3. Think of all the money to be made!

I lived in a campus town and every year, end of the semester, (especially the end of spring semester) the most amazing stuff would be thrown out.

Students (especially foreign students) leaving who had no way to take their stuff with them.

Uncounted couches, TVs, furniture, computers, electronics, etc just sitting on the curbs all around the campus.

They had to clean the apartment out and they had nowhere to put the stuff but on the curb.

4. Why do people throw away laptops?!?

I live in a town with 2 colleges in it and I like to go textbook hunting on move out week. I’ll usually pull 2,5-3k in 2 weeks. I’ve found around 8-9 phones of vary degrees of degradation, around 4 laptops with fixable problems and a closets worth of name-brand clothing. My daily driver timbs are trash boots.

My friend though, after two years of gathering now owns a small business selling and renting what he calls “dorm kits”, which usually include a couple lights, chairs, a mini-fridge, a microwave, an electric kettle and other odds and ends. He has a real job but makes about 40k a year supplemental, a lot in cash. (that he keeps in a cardboard box labeled “f— you money”) He will often find 2-3 of the kits he sold outright in the garbage that same year. I’m jealous of his work ethic, because those couple of weeks before/after the semester he works 18 hour days.

TL;DR- if you live near a college there’s gold in the garbage.

5. E.A. office… it’s in the trash!

The cleaning company I work for regularly gets rid of unwanted stuff from an Electronics Arts office.

We could keep the items they didn’t use anymore. Some of the fun things we got were: a classic guitar hero set, wii fit + balance board, sim city mouse pads (still using those), some kind of singstar microphones (use the now for talking online with friends), old sims disks with all the commercials they have ever released (some weird stuff was on there), battlefield bad company key chains, old games like need for speed and rogue galaxy for ps2 and lots of minor stuff.

This happens annually so i hope they got some fun stuff this year.

6. So much wine!

At my sister’s alma mater, she said the rich girls threw out a lot of good stuff when the dorms had to be cleaned out for the summer. She got clothes, shoes and purses.

I lived in Israel as an English teacher several years ago and since thrift stores aren’t really a thing there, perfectly good clothes would be thrown out. I got so many bags of clothes.

Once they were washed, they were perfectly fine. (Got hand-me-downs from my teacher, the teacher of two people in my cohort and a few friends in my cohort as well.) Never had to buy clothes (minus a pair of boots and my Purim costume) during my 10 months in Israel! Before Passover, people toss anything that isn’t kosher for Passover. I found more clothes and three unopened bottles of wine!

7. Snowboards?! Whoa!

I usually find brand new stuff still in the plastic. Haven’t really found anything illegal though.

My brother in law works for a recycling place and he finds all kinds of cool sh*t. One day he came home with 3 brand new dc snowboards. He said whatever company wanted to shred the last year’s model that didn’t sell so he took it home.

8. Lots of meds!

I was a janitor for my high school in the summer months and one of the first jobs of the summer was locker clean out. I was given the master key for all the lockers and had to go in one by one to clean them out.

I found so many bottles of ADHD meds (adderal, ritalin, vyvanse), relatively brand new shoes, nice north face fleeces among other random sh*t.

9. The $100 pick up

I worked on the back of a trash truck for one summer when I was younger. It was my girlfriend’s dad’s company so I rode with him pretty much the entire time. We never found anything truly odd but one of my best memories was when we used to go around to pick up trash at these multi-million and billion dollar homes.

There was this one house that we picked up trash at that always had four, five, six huge cans full of bottles and trash from their weekly parties.

The rule was, only two large cans were to be picked up. Anything extra would cost the customer more. Well, in order to avoid having to pay the company extra, every week there would be this old guy standing at the back gate with a $100 bill. He’d hand us the bill in exchange for us not telling the owner about the extra pick-up.

The owner, the guy who he handed the money to, always promised not to tell anyone about it. We always had a good lunch on those days.

10. Never pay for a bike again!

My dad was a garbage man. My brother and never paid for a bike as kids – he’d find bikes in various states of disrepair and bring them back home to fix them up from their usable parts.

Also, radios. My dad would find some incredible old radios – tons of 40s/50s era tube radio receivers, which we would fix up together.

As far as illegal, I remember him telling me that he found a big ziploc bag full of mary jane one time.

11. Guns & Ammo

I was a garbage man for a number of years in the early 90s. I live in a very small town that is mostly Italian, and one morning we were sent out to collect the dumpster from a trucks top on the outskirts of town. As the truck was pouring the contents of the dumpster into the back, I saw a wet box break apart and inside were a bunch of submachine guns and magazines of ammo.

I stopped the winch, told the driver, and we both decided to play dumb (not difficult) and pretend we didn’t see them. So I continued on and crushed it all as though I hadn’t seen them.

I just remember being afraid that they were dropped off for a pickup or exchange and if some saw me taking them or I was found with them, it’d be a really bad day for me.

12. Better living through chemistry!

In an old school, a forgotten high school chemistry lab from the 60s. Jars and jars of things like thermite, sticks of yellow phosphorous submerged in some yellow-colored liquid that had evaporated to the point where there was only 1/8″ of liquid covering the top of the sticks and the slightest movement would cause the top end of the sticks to be uncovered.

This was all on the same racks as a jar of mercury, about a pound of powdered asbestos, spools of magnesium ribbom, quantities of powdered sulfur, nitroglycerin, potassium permanganate, cans that had rusted through (they still contained – something –

but the labels were too corroded to read), acid nitric and too many other bottles to read as just being in that room for a couple of minutes gave me a splitting headache.

It had apparently been a well-stocked chemistry lab for high school students decades previously then one day the school closed so they locked the door and nobody had entered it (much less cleaned it out) for decades.

13. Casino cleanup

My uncle in Vegas was a trash man.

After work he would walk through the landfill and find casino chips, jewelry, other valuables and money – enough to buy a very nice home on his modest wages after only a couple years. Rich, drunk and/or stupid means a lot of disposed, as opposed to disposable, wealth.

14. You knew this was coming…

A severed arm with no hand.

At first I thought it was from an animal until I looked closer in horror that it clearly was a human elbow.

That last story… WTF?????? How do you ever recover from that? How do you go back to work???

Got any crazy stories of things you found which you can’t unsee? Let us know in the comments!

Teachers Share the Most Hilarious Things Their Students Have Ever Said

Let’s take a trip down memory lane.

This one goes out to the teachers.

Throughout the school day, all teachers hope to impart wisdom into the next generation. But beyond math equations and reading groups, teachers get to experience the hilarity of what kids say.

u/moosepajamas asked Reddit:

“Teachers of Reddit, what is the funniest thing you’ve ever heard a student say?”

And the forum dropped a few outrageous quotes!

10. Bathroom break time? Nope.

“One of my pre-kindergarteners was squirming as we lined up for lunch. I asked him if he needed to go to the bathroom, and he said no, but kept squirming.

So I asked if he was sure, and he said, ‘I’m OK — it’s just that my penis is so big.’ He had an erection.”

odzilla79

9. Compliment or insult?

“I wore a Captain America shirt to school for ‘Super Hero Day,’ and one of my students said I looked like Captain America before the injections.”

umero1uno

8. A wise child once said…

“One of my 7th graders asked me where babies come from, and another student replied, ‘Well, when a Mommy and Daddy love each other very much…they get a bottle of scotch and a cheap motel room.”

Reddituser

7. The kid’s got a point!

“I heard a student say, ‘I thought Astronomy would be easy because I know all about it, but he hasn’t even brought up horoscopes yet, and we’re 6 weeks in!’”

chrisrayn

6. Burn!

“I’m a math professor, and I had just finished a proof when I asked my students, ‘Does everyone understand my choices?’

One of my favorite students piped up and asked, ‘Are we talking about your proof or how you’ve chosen to live your life?’”

ColdStainlessNail

5. How did she know it’s salty?

“I was teaching a lesson on whales in my high school science class, and had just mentioned the sperm whale when a girl asked, ‘Is that why the ocean is so salty?’”

4. Speech impediments make for funny moments

Taught ESL for a year. Had an adorable 6-year old who could not say clock. We worked for weeks at it with her, she just could not say it.

“Poppy, what time is it?” “Its 6 o’cock!”

I couldn’t help but laugh every time.”

3. Ouch

“One of my students was hugging me goodbye when they took a deep inhale, smiled up at me lovingly, and said, ‘Your shirt smells like a grandma, but your armpits smell like Chuck E. Cheese.’”

2. Jesus…

“I teach elementary band, and once we were preparing for a playing test when one student said, ‘Man, I need to practice.’

Without missing a beat, the kid next to him said, ‘My mom says I need Jesus.’”

1. Good point

“One of my students once asked me, ‘If a synchronized swimmer starts drowning, do they all start drowning?’

I lost it in class.”

People Share the Times Their Gut Feelings Turned out to Be All Too True

Have you ever had a gut feeling that just nagged at you? Did it ever turn out to be spot on?

So it’s not particularly surprising that the question was asked on redd… “What’s your greatest most satisfying “I fucking called it” moment?”

Yeah, these are fun…

11. His Name Was Charles

“Back in the early ’90s, I was in my early twenties and, as people in their early twenties often do, I spent a lot of late nights at my local Denny’s hanging out with friends and drinking cheap coffee.

The late-night wait staff was pretty small, so my friends and I wound up getting to know them pretty well — socializing with them as well. Some of them would hook us up with free fries or sodas and every now and again if things were slow, they’d sit at our booth with us.

One of the people who would hang out with us was named Charles.

Charles was an older guy in his 50s who was very nice to my friends and me, but he was a little… creepy. He would never get overt about it, but he definitely embraced the whole ‘creepy uncle’ persona. He’d tell the girls in my group how pretty they were, and how he wished he was still young, that sort of thing.

The guy was a little weird, but he was a nice guy to us.

All the same, I remember telling people, ‘Charles has a secret. He’s in his fifties, slinging coffee at an all-night restaurant, but he comes off as educated and sort of worldly. He talks about traveling and living well — I don’t know what it is, but Charles is damaged. I bet he killed somebody or something.’ I was convinced that the ‘nice guy’ bit was a cover for something dark.

UH, YEAH…

So as my group got older, people came and went, some of us fell out with others, some of us got real jobs and couldn’t stay up until 4 am at a Denny’s, and we eventually stopped hanging out there.

Never really gave Charles much thought after that, for YEARS.

Then I saw Charles on the news.

Turns out Charles was Charles Rothenberg. In what I understand was originally intended to be a murder-suicide, he doused his son David in kerosene, and lit him on fire.

David survived, but was horribly scarred for the rest of his life. Charles continued to get into criminal trouble, and was ultimately sentenced to 25 years in prison as a result of California’s ‘Three Strikes’ law.

He’s still in prison today, but in the late ’90s he changed his name to ‘Charley Charles,’ because sure, why not.

When his son was 19, he visited Charles in prison, apparently reading a prepared statement to him:

‘Charles, you are not my father. You are an impostor. Parents don’t hinder their children from experiencing a normal childhood. I wish that you could experience the trauma and pain that I have gone through.’

Afterward, David told the press, ‘He wanted me to know that he loved me. The last thing I said was, “No you don’t.” And I walked out.’

In a somewhat bizarre turn, David later legally changed his own name to ‘Dave Dave,’ mirroring the ‘Charley Charles’ name his father adopted. I have no idea if this is coincidental somehow, but the irony is not lost on me, that’s for sure.

Unfortunately Dave Dave himself passed away last year, at the age of 42 — his ongoing medical issues, which were the result of his burn injuries, eventually killed him.

So, yeah. I called it — Charles was harboring something dark when he was getting free fries for my friends and telling the girls how pretty they were. I just had no idea HOW dark.”

10. Totally Called It!

“In high school, my best friend’s little sister (16 at the time) brought home her new 18 year old boyfriend from work to meet the family. I was over at the time and talked to him for a while because we were the same age. After meeting him, I realized something was off. I got the impression that 1) He was much older than claiming 2) had been in jail.

I wound up saying something to my friend, who told his parents and sister.

Long story short, the family freaked out on me for spreading rumors that weren’t true, telling me to mind my own business, etc…

Two years later, the sister comes home from a date with him in tears. He finally came out and admitted to her that 1) He was 30, not the now 20 he was saying 2) He had spent 2 years in prison, but refused to say for what.

I was very quick to point out to the family how I called this years earlier and was basically shamed out of their house.”

9. Always Get A Second Opinion!

“My husband is super medically fragile – he’s had cancer twice and a bone marrow transplant in the last 9 years.

A few years ago, he had surgery on his wrist and I had a gut feeling he was brewing an infection despite being on antibiotics. His surgeon’s office saw him and switched the antibiotics. I contacted the cancer center because I just knew it was going to become more. They blew me off and punted back to the surgeon’s office.

I knew this was beyond the surgeon’s scope.

I pitched a tantrum fit and pretty much told them they were going to see them and I wasn’t accepting no for an answer. The triage phone nurse was condescending and telling me it was probably nothing and could wait. We got to the clinic and the nurse there started looking around the incision site. She told me that she believed my gut and pushed to admit him.

The CT showed a huge infection that landed him in the hospital for a week on potent IV antibiotics with another surgery to clean out the site.”

8. Super Creep

“When I was in sixth grade, I became friends with a couple other girls in my neighborhood. We each had completely different backgrounds, but we just clicked. For years, we three did all the things good friends do. The only thing I, personally, didn’t like was to stay over at the house of one of these girls, I’ll call her Brianna. I’d sleep over at the other girl’s house, they could sleep at mine, but I always came up with an excuse not to stay at Brianna’s.

She started to get her feelings hurt but I ignored it.

Then when we were all about 16 we all sat around drinking, like teenagers do. We got into a little debate about who is better friends with who, and I was somehow accused of not ‘liking’ Brianna as much as the other friend because I wouldn’t spend much time at her house. Since I had zero filter at that moment, I blurted out, ‘Brianna. It isn’t you. It’s your dad. He’s a child predator, I can tell just by looking at him.’

As soon as I said it, everything changed. I apologized, that didn’t work of course. Both of my best girlfriends dumped me that day. I still had a solid best friend, but I had to get myself a new group for sure. Also, they started bullying me a bit, but I just took it because of the horrible thing I said about Brianna’s dad. I felt super guilty.

Three years later, I was out of high school, living with my best friend who was still friends with Brianna.

I got home from class and there was Brianna sitting on the living room couch. It was SO uncomfortable. I decided to try to apologize again. ‘Hey, I know you are probably sick of hearing this, but I am so very sorry for what I said about your dad, Brianna. Please forgive me, I still don’t know why I’d say such a thing.’

She sort of chuckled and said, ‘It’s no big deal, he assaulted all of us.’

I never questioned my intuition again, because I called it the second I saw that creep.”

7. Bridal Woes

“Remember the Runaway Bride? Not the movie, the actual woman?

Well, there was a woman who was ‘kidnapped’ before her wedding (maybe a couple days before, if I’m not mistaken), and the whole world started looking for her. If I remember correctly, she was able to make a phone call to her family and she told them she was kidnapped by some ‘Mexicans.’ As soon as she said that, I knew she was lying. Whenever people specify a race when explaining a crime, my ears perk up, but I understand why she did it.

People will believe it.

Either way, my girlfriend at the time got so mad at me saying, ‘You always think you know it all! This woman was kidnapped and all you can do is think of something to be right about! Have some compassion.’

Couple days later, guess who shows up?

Apparently she didn’t wanna get married and decided to get ‘kidnapped’ rather than call it off. Luckily the state made her pay back all the money they spent to search for her, but of course, no jail time.

I never said ‘I told you so’ to my girlfriend, but I know she was waiting for it by how she was acting, didn’t speak much, acted aloof.

So we never spoke of it after.”

6. Live That Single Life!

“The first paramour my mom met was this guy from a city about an hour and a half drive from us on a less than reputable dating site. Soon she started dating him and promptly gave him a key to her house. DUMB, right? So she’s my mom and I respect her, but at the same time, I want to keep her safe. I meet the guy and can instantly tell there’s something not quite right about him. He was nice to me but he seemed unnaturally shy and would rarely make eye contact with me.

And he would always try to buy my affection. As they continued to date, my mom would get mad at me for being cold to him. And of course I couldn’t articulate why I felt the way I did. Fast forward about a year, they are married. She finds out he has been sneaking out in the middle of the night to meet women. She divorced him and he knocked up some woman half his age.

So then she meets this guy, on the SAME SITE.

I met him and he seemed nice enough. Way more personable and outgoing but something still seemed off about this guy. He told my mom he was 52. Also, he told her he was in the Navy and was a SEAL. Obviously I was skeptical because SEALs don’t have to brag about being SEALs and he really didn’t seem the personality. Fortunately for me, one of my best friends’ step-dad was a legitimate Navy SEAL. I asked my mom’s boyfriend some details about it (when he served, his BUD/S class, etc.).

My friend’s step-dad has access to BUD/S class records and this dude is nowhere to be found. Told my mom and called the dude out on it, he folded and admitted he was in the Navy but lied about being a SEAL to impress the both of us. Not only that, but I get on this court records website the courts in our area use and find out he is not 52, but 60!

Mom is currently doing just fine living the single life.”

5. Sketchy AF

“After breaking up with my first girlfriend, she rebounded with a very sketchy dude at her work. Within a month, he was living with her and she had become a completely different person. I tried warning her she was being gaslit and manipulated. Her friends tried. But the dude had his teeth sunk in too deep and she was not listening to any of us.

After 6 months, he dropped the act and made up an elaborate story about his mother (who he had previously said died of cancer) having faked her death and being alive in California.

So he left for a week at which point he stopped all contact with my ex. She panicked and came to me saying she was worried. And within days, his entire construction fell like a house of cards, and it became clear he wasn’t coming back. He had gotten what he needed. My ex was devastated. I always did have a bad feeling about him.”

4. This Is A Rollercoaster Ride

“A few years ago, a friend of mine had gotten caught up in the ‘letgo’ app (like ebay and tinder had a baby). He found a crazy good deal on an Audi and wanted to check it out. I was apprehensive about the low price and how it was advertised in a lower income community. He told me not to worry and invited me to come along to check it out.

My friend was texting the seller throughout the day trying to make this deal happen.

He, his girlfriend, and I went to the seller’s house to check out this car. We couldn’t see the car anywhere and figured it was in a garage or something. We arrive at the house of the seller and we’re greeted by a young guy (early 20s) dressed in laid back, lazy day on the couch, bum-around the house basketball shorts and t shirt. At this moment, I knew something was up.

We hop out of our car and the seller leads us to the back yard of this little suburban house with no garage, but a shed – ALMOST wide enough to fit a car…

The seller says that the car is in the shed and his brother has the key. He begins to walk up the steps to the back door and from around the corner of the house pops out a thin guy with a hoodie and a ski mask on. His right hand is hidden behind the lining of his hoodie but is posturing that he has a weapon and is ready to shoot.

We all freeze.

Not because we’re paralyzed with fear, but because the absurdity of the moment.

It’s 2:30 in the afternoon on a bright sunny day in a modest suburb in everyday America, and here we are getting robbed.

I look at the seller and see the weakest surprised face I’ve ever seen. It was clear to me that this was a set up and we bit the hook. But luckily for us, these two guys were the laziest fishermen in the state.

We didn’t move an inch, we stood calmly and silently thinking the same thought: ‘If he actuality has a weapon, then we can panic.’

We stood there for a few seconds waiting for the ski mask to engage us and make his move, but he just stood there at the corner of the house! After about 30 seconds of silence, the ski mask dipped back behind the house and I urged us to leave. We pile back into our car and head back home.

Now, this should be a near miss story, and you all are waiting for the ‘I called it!’

You see, on the car ride home, my friend was trying to get back in touch with the seller!

He didn’t believe that the whole situation was a set up, and that we got out of it untouched because of the ineptitude of those guys. He kept texting him and told us to pull over at a gas station so he could try to get this Audi.

I sat and argued with him for literally 58 minutes, explaining that this car, this price, this seller, all of it, was a lie to try and rob us. I said, ‘We got lucky and avoided getting robbed or hurt or killed and now you want to go back and put the SAME HOOK IN YOUR LIP!?’

My friend argued that even a chance at a car at this low a price was worth it. ‘If I can arrange for this deal to happen somewhere in public, then I can get this car!’ He texted something to that effect to the seller and didn’t get a response. My friend started the car back up and we went home.

Later that evening, I was with my family watching the local news, and who should pop on screen? A mugshot of the guy who was ‘selling an Audi.’

He was caught by the police later that day for trying the exact same trick! I sent my friend a screen shot of the mugshot with the message:

‘Look, it’s your boy!’”

3. Preggers

“In Canada, we have a holiday called Family Day in February. In 2008, my wife was dealing with a sick family member out of town, and had come back for a visit.

We were trying to have a child at the time. Well, with our crazy schedules, we had one chance and it was on Family Day.

The moment we were done, I jumped up, gave her the double thumbs up (first time in my life) and said, ‘Bam! You’re pregnant.

Twin girls, red hair.’ Turns out I got everything right except the hair, her Italian genes beat me in that one.

I win for our entire marriage with that prediction.”

2. Lost And Never Found

“In college, I went to a theme park with my boyfriend, right before I moved away to California. He has really bad eyesight and had just gotten brand new glasses, I believe they were very expensive. As we’re going up the stairs in line for a roller coaster, I said, ‘Hey, why don’t you give me your glasses and I’ll stick them in my purse.’

He said, ‘Nah, it’ll be fine.’

And I said, ‘Are you sure? You’re making an expensive bet where if you win you just get to keep what you already have.’

And he said, ‘The forward momentum of the roller coaster will keep them on my face.’ So I thought, he’s an adult, whatever.

Literally first drop of the roller coaster I hear him yell over the roar of the wind, ‘DO YOU HAVE MY GLASSES???’ so we spent the next hour walking around the base of the roller coaster looking for them and leaving a report at the lost and found booth.

I then had to drive us home in his SUV, which I had never driven before, because I did not want him navigating blind.”

1. Blame Canada!

“When I was 19, my girlfriend and I, along with another friend of ours, took a road trip up to Toronto to visit a friend of ours who lived there during the summer. It was my first time leaving the United States since I came here when I was 3 years old, so I was excited.

We were there to see our friend but we had also heard that in Toronto they have these ‘novelty ID’ shops where you could get a fake ID from a U.S.

state. She was starting college in a few months, and I would be joining her the next semester, so we wanted to have fake IDs to be able to buy for ourselves.

We went into the city one day and found one of these shops. It was pretty crazy, they had a whole book of sample IDs featuring every state and also some other random novelty IDs. We heard from someone that Michigan was the one that looked the realest, so we made ours from there.

We paid them they gave us a form where we basically filled in all the info except an address. I told my girlfriend to make sure she got the year right, since she could be absent-minded sometimes and she said, ‘Yeah, yeah I got it, make sure you got your’s right.’

They took a picture for the ID and then handed me a Michigan State hoodie. Part of the cost included a second form of ID, in this case a college ID, and by wearing the hoodie it gave the illusion that the pictures were taken on different days.

After a short wait we had our two IDs and were set to be able to buy back in the US.

We get in the car and are about to drive back to our friend’s house. I ask my girlfriend to see her ID because I wanted to see if her address was the same as mine or if they used random ones. As I’m looking at her ID I notice that the year on hers is wrong. I told her, ‘Babe, you got the year wrong. This says you’re 20, not 21.’

She laughed and said, no it doesn’t, and grabbed the ID from me. She stared at the ID for a few seconds and then her smile turned into a scowl. She didn’t say another word for the rest of the ride back and I was trying so hard to hold back my laughter because I knew something like that was gonna happen.”

Got a moment or situation like this that you totally called? Ever get that nagging, gut feeling?

Well, you know what to do, right?
