What is the Scariest True Story You Know? People Responded.

I’m a true crime fanatic and I genuinely enjoy reading and hearing about true stories that are disturbing and scary.

Does that make me a weirdo?

Perhaps, but at least now I know I’m not alone, judging by how many people out there are obviously into the same kind of stuff.

Folks on AskReddit shared the scariest true stories they know.

Prepare to get creeped out.

1. Creepy.

“I grew up in a funeral home. I helped out in the office.

When I was about 15, we got a call from a man whose wife and infant baby had been m**dered in cold blood.

There were very few clues. It made headlines. Cops set up surveillance at the viewing. It was heartbreaking, as the mother was holding the baby in her arms.

I was asked to take the flower cards and periodically get the husband and ask if he recognized the names. I then photocopied them and put them back. I did it because I was a “kid,” people knew me, and I was unobtrusive.

I talked to the husband quite a bit. He seemed devastated and shaken.

The cops told me they had an eyewitness to someone leaving the house the day of the m**der.

The witness was a three year old girl. She recognized the man leaving. It was the husbands best friend.

Turns out that the friend and the husband had made a pact to k**l each other’s families and run off with their secretaries. The little girl identified the friend, and I guess one of them cracked.

They both went to jail on multiple counts, all on the testimony of a three year old.

I still cannot believe to this day that that man stood right beside me, multiple times, and I had NO CLUE.”

2. Awful.

“James Bulger.

He was just 2 years old and with his mom running errands. She let go of his hand to pay the cashier, and he wandered away. Two ten year old boys spotted him, lured him toward them, took him by the hands and led him away. They took him to a remote location, pushing and kicking at him the whole time.

Some people questioned the two kids with the crying toddler, but they lied saying he was their brother and nobody intervened further. They took him to a secluded spot and t**tured him. I don’t want to recount the t**ture details, it’s just too gruesome. They left his body on some railroad tracks hoping that being run over by a train would make it look like an accident. He was found days later, his body severed in half by a train.

The boys were caught and became the youngest convicted m**derers in British history. Security footage from the day they took James shows them watching children, picking out a target. And they were just kids themselves. They were released at 18. One of them is back in jail for possessing child abuse photos on his computer.

The most terrifying thing about this for me is that my own son is only 2 now, and James’s m**derers were just children, too. It was premeditated and intentional and entirely random. Just a momentary lapse in attention and he became a target of two m**derous children. Children.

To think that children younger than my step son are capable of such a thing… ugh. Everything about this case is just horrifying.”

3. The more you know…

“My dad worked in a morgue in during college in the 60’s.

One time on the night shift he was training a recent hire who was wheeling a body down the hallway. The body was under a sheet but all of a sudden started to sit up. The guy immediately freaked out, ran out the doors and quit.

Apparently a d**d body can have muscle contractions in the abs causing it to start sitting up. The more you know I guess.”

4. Terrible.

“During college, I lived in an apartment with a community pool. There were a bunch of us having beers at the pool one night over summer term, and one of my friends ran to jump in the pool but changed his mind at the last second.

His feet slipped out from under him on the wet concrete and he went down. He broke his neck in the edge of the pool…never walked again and had extremely limited upper body function.

I watched someone’s life be ruined and it was terrifying. Listen to the lifeguard and walk.”

5. This is terrifying.

“I had a guy tell me a story a couple decades ago about how he was hiking in an area in South America and wandered away from other hikers in the area.

The ground was wet and without warning it gave away and he got sucked into a fast moving underground river- pitch black, completely submerged, and at the mercy of the current as it buffeted him against the sides of the tunnel. After some time the current subsided and he realized he was in a larger pocket, still pitch black and submerged.

He said that even as he struggled to hold his breath, he didn’t panic and realized that the water had to keep moving somewhere, so he moved around until he found another tunnel that sucked him in.

At one point he began to see light so he punched upwards, broke through the ground and pulled himself out, soaking wet, gasping for air, and a bit of a distance from the other dry hikers, who were somewhat bewildered when they saw him straggling up to them.”

6. Explosion.

“The New London school explosion.

A school in Texas in 1937 tried to tap into natural gas on their own and it ended up leaking and blowing up the school. It’s the reason they make natural gas scented in Texas and probably the US now. I’m amazed I never heard of this in school because it seems like something that should be taught.

I read some survivor stories and I had f**king nightmares. It was horrible. Three in particular stuck with me. One was a 7 or 8 year old girl, she saw her best friend and playmate with her entire body crushed by concrete with only her shoulders and head above it, and she still had a lollipop in her mouth like she didn’t know what happened.

Another was a guy I think a 16-17 year old, helping un-dig people and bring them out of the wreckage. He saw a dad holding his daughter crying his eyes out while the back of the girls head was broken open with her brain on the ground next to her.

The last was a 9ish year old girl who went to find her mom after it happened (there was a PTA meeting going on at the time so there was a lot of parents at the scene) her mom was freaking out trying to find her but didn’t even recognize her. She went upto her mom and called out to her but she just kept saying ‘you’re not my daughter.” She was so covered in blood and ash and tears that her own mother couldn’t recognize her.

It was a truly horrifying thing.”

7. Right next door.

“I lived next to a m**derer.

Faye Swetlik was 6 years old when she was kidnapped out of her front yard. It was all over the news. I had news crews, cops, even the FBI all over my townhouse complex. My fiancée and I met with the FBI 3 times. They searched our home and everything. I remember clear as day, my fiancée FaceTimed me as the cops were digging through the trash cans directly in front of my townhouse.

They pulled out her boot and a bloody knife. Then they found her body, dumped maybe 300 feet from my house. He had watched them find the m**der weapon. Dumbass put it in a trash bag along with his other mail. He went to his back porch and opened his own throat.

It’s crazy. I had conversations with the guy. I never knew he was a psycho. This all happened a year ago.”

8. Middle of the night.

“My great aunt woke up in the middle of the night, she heard her dog making these low growls.

She was single at the time and living alone in her ranch-style home. She walked out to her living room to check things out. She didn’t see or hear anything out of the ordinary, so she decided to make sure her door and front windows were locked. Door was locked, first window she checked was locked.

When she lifted the mini blind on the second window, it was wide open and a guy in a ski mask was standing there. She said he laughed this evil laugh and said “party time” then he started to climb in. She screamed that she had a g**, her dog started barking his head off. The would be r**ist decided to bolt. My aunt did get a g** after that and learned how to use it.

I can’t even think about what would’ve happened to her if she didn’t have her dog to warn her.”

9. The Girl in the Box.

“The kidnapping of Colleen Stan. She was hitchhiking in the 70s, and turned down rides because they didn’t seem safe.

A van with a young couple and a baby offered her a ride, and because it was a family, she accepted. They held her at gun point, put a giant box on her head that blocked out noise and sound, and later, kept her in box the size of a coffin underneath their bed. She was brutally beaten and r**ed daily for 7 years. They also brainwashed her to believe that they were part of a mafia called “The Company” that would k**l her family if she tried to escape.

Eventually, the wife helped her escape and received immunity for testifying against her husband at trial. The case is known as “The Girl in the Box.””

10. Chilling.

“Germanwings Flight 9525.

The copilot locked himself in the cockpit and set the airplane for a slow descent into the French Alps.

For 10 minutes, the crew desperately tried to get back into the cockpit, but in this post 9/11 world, the door was design to withstand assault did not fail.

This is was a daytime flight. Passengers knew what was happening. They could see the mountains getting closer out the windows. This wasn’t a quick, “what’s that… omg… out”… this was a long, drawn out realization of what was coming and the end was inevitable.

Chilling.”

11. The doctor.

“The story of Christopher Duntsch aka Doctor D**th who operated out of the Plano and Dallas area.

He maimed 33 people and ki**ed 2. He was an alleged neurosurgeon that didn’t actually receive a proper medical education to operate, but still did so despite not fully being trained. No hospital would report him or take his license away. They would just pass him off to another hospital to continue injuring or ki**ing people.

He was the first doctor to be formally indicated with m**der, and sentenced to life imprisonment.”

12. Wow.

“My brother was a police officer.

He had a call to check on the welfare of a mother who had not showed up for work. She had d**d on the sofa and her little toddler brought the little diaper pad and laid down next to her, and d**d of dehydration.

The little kid had opened the lower cabinets and drawers in the kitchen looking for food. He still cries about it. And he’s not the crying kind”

What’s the Oddest Food Combination You Enjoy? Here’s What People Had to Say.

We live in a free country, am I right?

Darn right!

And that means (among other things) that you can eat whatever you please, whenever you please.

And sometimes people like to get a little bit freaky-deaky.

AskReddit users talked about the weird food combinations they like to chow down on. Let’s take a look.

1. Sounds decent.

“Instant Ramen, cooked without flavor, but then you drain and fry it, adding the flavor during the pan-fry, then slap that b**ch in a quesadilla.

It’s crunchy, crispy, cheesy, noodley, and you can eat it like a taco.”

2. Wasn’t stoned.

“I put red wine vinegar in a lot of food, and people make such a face when I do it.

Like if I CHEF MIKE a bowl of leftover spaghetti, I’ll put like a tablespoon of vinegar over it pre-heating. I like it.

I got the habit from my dad. He put it on canned spinach, and I liked it. So it’s a little flavor enhancer on my meals for one.

I’d say the STUPIDEST food combo I did was when I tried to make a peanut butter and jelly burrito in the microwave.

(I was out of bread, and figured, why not, it’s good on bagels)

Do not microwave a peanut butter and jelly burrito, you will have a bad time.

Also I was six, not stoned.”

3. Hmmm…

“Red wine and black licorice.

I say them in that order because if I start with ‘black licorice and…’

I am usually shunned before I can finish the statement.”

4. Thanks, Grandma.

“My grandma taught me to eat fried egg on toast with grape jelly.

Perfect combo of savory/sweet.”

5. You gotta do it the right way.

“Dipping my ham and cheese toastie into a mug of hot chocolate.

Heavenly, the trick is a very quick dip, the bread will absorb it either way and you want to avoid total sogginess at all costs.”

6. Delicious!

“Feta cheese on a regular hot dog.

I had no idea other people would even consider it gross, it’s delicious.”

7. Interesting…

“Make some spicy ramen noodles, but add the flavor pack in after you cook and drain the noodles.

Add a bit of peanut butter, a dash of lemon juice and sugar to taste.

Throw in some tofu. Gourmet ramen!”

8. Not for everyone.

“My favorite sub is tuna with pickles, black olives, and cheddar cheese, and I don’t think it’s weird at all.

But I’ve literally had the sandwich shop say “gross” after I ordered it so it’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea haha.”

9. Just walk away.

“My husband has some interesting combinations but his favorite is ramen cup of noodles with popcorn.

He will eat all the noodles and then dump popcorn into the broth. It gets all shriveled and that’s how he likes it.

I have to walk away.”

10. LOL.

“I used to get peperoni with tuna salad and cheddar w/ banana peppers.

One time the woman asked me if I was pregnant.”

11. Yowza!

“Peanut butter, honey, pickle and goldfish cracker sandwich.

It was something random my son asked for once when he was like 3 and I’ve been eating them ever since.

You can also use Doritos instead of goldfish crackers.”

12. Getting funny looks.

“Strawberry jam and cheese on a sandwich.

I really don’t think it’s that weird but people look at me funny when I say I like it.”

13. Give it a shot.

“Slow-cooked pinto (or black) beans, hot, with some of the liquid, poured over vanilla ice cream. The liquid acts as a sauce, and cuts the sweetness while satisfying like a chocolate sauce might. The beans start hot and soft on cold, firm ice cream.

Slowly the ice cream softens, and the beans freeze, so it offers contrast of texture different in the first bite than it does in the last. There’s a lot going on, but if you try it with beans from a can, you’re wasting your time on disappointment.”

14. Okay!

“BBQ sauce on mashed potatoes.

I don’t do it every time but whenever I have like BBQ chicken with mashed potatoes, I’ll dip them in the sauce.”

Are there any weird food combinations that you like?

Tell us all about them in the comments!

We look forward to it!

People Share the Scariest True Stories They Know

I’m a sucker for all crime-related material and the spookier, the better for me.

And I think it’s safe to say that the true crime genre as a whole is more popular than ever with the general public.

So I think a lot of folks are gonna be interested in these stories.

What’s the scariest true story you know?

Here’s what folks on AskReddit had to say…

1. Missing.

“This one kid back in the early 20th century named Bobby Dunbar.

He went missing, and after like a year of searching for him, his parents came across a man with a kid who looked a lot like Bobby. They believed it was their kid, and after a legal battle with the kid’s supposed mother, they brought the kid home. A whole parade happened due to the missing kid’s return. He lived and d**d believing he was, in fact, Bobby Dunbar.

Well, a few decades later, his granddaughter asked Bobby’s (nephew I think?) for a DNA sample so she could see if her and Bobby’s nephew were related. Turns out, they weren’t. Meaning the real Bobby Dunbar is still missing and, probably d**d alone without his parents.”

2. Horrible.

“Nirbhaya Case – 2012 – Delhi

A female student boarded an off-duty bus with a male friend. They were returning home after watching a film. The six men, who were already on board, including the driver, attacked the couple, taking turns to r**e the woman in the moving bus around the city, before brutally assaulting her with an iron rod.

Her friend was beaten and tied to watch the assault. They were then thrown out onto the roadside to d**. Some passers-by found them naked and bloodied and called the police. Two weeks later – after widespread protests that demanded India reckon with its treatment of women – the victim d**d in a hospital in Singapore, where she was taken for further treatment after her condition deteriorated in a Delhi hospital.

All six people were arrested for the attack. One of them was found d**d in jail in March 2013, having apparently taken his own life.

Another, who was 17 at the time of the attack, was released in 2015, after serving three years in a reform facility.

The remaining four were hanged in the capital’s high-security Tihar prison.”

3. Frightening.

“My mother’s friend left her abusive husband. My mother met her while working at a women’s shelter.

They were really close, and my mother fought so hard to get her somewhere safe. They did everything right. She helped her file divorce papers. And then one morning my mom can’t get her on the phone, but they’d had plans to meet for lunch. And she checks the newspaper. And she calls in sick to work. Which she never did. And she sat my down in tears and told me what happened.

Her friend was home, with her son, when her ex broke in. He ki**ed her and left the baby there, in his mother’s blood. And then he hung himself outside of Raley’s. Last I heard their almost two year old went to live with his uncle. I can’t imagine how terrifying it was for the baby to cry to himself, in his mother’s blood, for the almost two days until he was found.”

4. Whoa.

“Happened to my boss’s best friend when they were around 17 yo:

Best friend’s parents were out of town one weekend and she had the house to herself. Went about her business having dinner, watching tv then decided to go to bed. She was lying in her bed with her back to her closet when she heard the door open. She somehow pretended to be asleep – the man who was hiding in the closet walked around her bed to the side she was laying/facing, gently stroked her hair and face then left.

She immediately called her boyfriend to ask him to come over then called her parents and then the police. Long story short this man had been getting into their home via a doggy door (they didn’t have a dog and didn’t bother to secure it) and he’d been living in a tent in the foresty area behind their home for months to creep on her. They found a ton of surveillance footage of her sleeping and pieces of her clothes and stuff.

If I recall correctly this happened somewhere in Alabama, most likely mid-2000s.”

5. Bizarre.

“I read a story recently about Paulette Gerbera Ferah, a 4 year old child who went missing from her room in 2010.

Her parents immediately notified authorities, and started a social media campaign to find Paulette. Paulette’s room was searched multiple times and used by her parents to do media interviews.

Here’s the terrifying part: Paulette was found d**d 10 days later… IN HER BED! She had wedged herself between the mattress and the footboard and suffocated.”

6. OMG.

“The blue-ring octopus has a venom that causes paralysis, causing people to d** of cardiac arrest or because of hypoxia. There is no antidote; the ”cure” is CPR or lif-support for the hour-or-so it takes for the the venom to leave the body.

There was a man who was bitten by a blue-ring octopus. As the life-guard was preforming CPR, he was lying on his back on the beach, facing the sky, eyes frozen open. Unable to close his eyes or communicate with the others, he lied there as the sun slowly burnt out his retinas. He became permanently blind.”

7. Inspired by…

“The story that inspired “Candyman” is pretty creepy.

A woman in a Chicago apartment was m**dered by some drug dealer who lived next-door.

How did he get into her apartment? Through a hole behind her bathroom cabinet/mirror.”

8. Horror story.

“The Nutty Putty Cave Incident

A spelunker got stuck upside down in a narrow cave for 26 hours. Crews tried to pull him out with pulleys, but had to be careful not to break his legs, because that could be fatal with the circumstances he was in.

Rescuers even almost dislodged him, only for an anchor to fail at the last second, plunging him back into the crevice. He eventually d**d, and they sealed the cave shut with him inside.”

9. The expedition.

“The Franklin Expedition.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 150 British sailors and military personnel on two ships embarked on a mission to find the Northwest Passage from the Atlantic across to the Pacific through arctic waters. The ships, named HMS Erebus and HMS Terror (two former warships reclassified as ice breakers thanks to their sturdier builds) departed British waters in the 1845 and were never seen again. In subsequent rescue attempts and investigations it was discovered that quite possibly everything that could’ve gone wrong on the expedition did so.

The weight of the ships with their reinforced hulls and decks designed to fire mortars and cannons off of worked against them as much of the waters crossed were shallow and filled with rocks and icebergs. The the time chosen to launch the expedition occurred at one of the coldest Arctic periods in recent history, meaning the polar ice and (particularly the pack ice) didn’t melt like usual as the ships became locked in the frozen water and essentially experienced an endless winter for over 4 years.

The food they stored which was supposed to last for years thanks to the revolutionary new process of canning was bought at the lowest bidder. Much of the food was improperly sealed and spoiled leading to food poisoning and even the ones that were properly sealed and kept intact were riddled with lead thanks to the soldering used to keep the food inside fresh.

In conjunction with the lead pipes in the ships the men would’ve been drinking out of for years meant the entire crews of both ships was slowly being infected with all manner of diseases (namely botulism, scurvy and heavy lead poisoning which also affects the mind leading to memory loss, heavy paranoia and general mental deterioration) combined with already present tuberculosis that ki**ed a small number of the crew before departing to the Arctic.

After about 2-3 years stuck in the ice, the captain in charge of the voyage John Franklin and many other crew members d**d in unknown circumstances and the remainder decided to abandon ships and try and hike out together to the nearest trading outpost and Back Fish river in Canada, hundreds of miles away, by loading up their rowboats with supplies and fixing them on sleds to be pulled. All remaining crew perished on that journey.

Their remains discovered by local Inuits/Netsilik tribes, who described desolate campsites of skeleton-like corpses with hazily built, half-open tents and even human body parts in cook pots, heavily implying that the men resorted to cannibalism in their last desperate hours.”

10. Deranged.

“The m**der of the Groene family.

A deranged pe**phile named Joseph Edward Duncan was already on the run from the cops for a past s**ual assault. He was incredibly charming and manipulative, and was truly pure evil. He camped outside a family’s rural home, unseen by them. He picked it out after driving past it and seeing children’s toys outside. He watched them from afar, got to know their routine with the intent of kidnapping the children, ten year old Dylan, eight year old Shasta.

Jed found the lock on the door was broken, entered the home in the middle of the night and tied up the mom, dad and teenage son. He put Shasta and Dylan in his car and ki**ed the rest of the family with a hammer.

He travelled around various campsites and cabins with Shasta and Dylan captive, s**ually abusing, t**turing and raping them. He eventually shot Dylan but Shasta talked him out of ki**ing her. Jed ended up telling her she “taught him how to love”

The scariest part is a cctv footage of Jed and Shasta at a gas station. Because you could easily believe they were just a normal dad and a grumpy daughter if you were an onlooker https://youtu.be/ZttD-myqdaw

Eventually, he took her to a diner where he was finally apprehended when a waitress noticed something was up and Shasta was saved after 7 weeks in his clutches. As he was dragged away, he called to her “promise me you’ll visit me in prison” and she said she would. I don’t know if she ever did.

Jed was put on death row and found to be guilty of three previous child m**ders. He d**d a few months ago from cancer.

But the worst part of it all is how horrible Shasta’s life has been afterwards. Drug addiction, in and out of jail, losing her children etc. Just the most horrifying story ever.”

11. The cult.

“In the 1980s there was a Mexican cult led by an American named Adolfo Constanzo.

They used to kidnap random people from tourist towns and nearby cities and perform human sacrifice on them in their rural Mexican desert compound, usually t**turing in elaborate rituals for hours or days before finally letting them d**. These rituals included vivisections, castrations, eyeball removal, tongue removal, teeth pulling, skin flaying, hanging, etc.

They used amphetamines and cocaine to force the victim to stay awake during the t**ture and not pass out from shock.

The cult believed the more pain and fear they could generate in the sacrifice victim the more powerful the body parts would be as ritual trinkets and also for food for the cult’s “nganga” which is a large ritual cauldron used to store bones, blood, meat, and other valuable items that the cult believed gave them power. They used to make staves out of wired together spinal columns and they would often eat the victim’s eyeballs during the rituals.

They are believed to have kidnapped and sacrificed over 26 people to their nganga in their three years that they were active from 1986 to 1989. The leader committed suicide when the police showed up at their compound. They arrested 14 cult members but most people believe there were at least a dozen more that escaped and are still out there.”

12. Scary.

“Personal story.

When I was 10, I regularly attended a choir club for kids. One day, I was picked up by my dad to drive me home. I was confused about it, as it was always my mum who did, but did not think much on it until half-way through the drive. My dad began to mumble about how sorry he was, and how I would never see him again.

More than a bit frightened and confused at that point, I kept asking what he meant, but he wouldn’t say. Until we were home, but he did not leave the car, and instead urged me to get out. Finally, he told me I would not see him again because he will be d**d very soon for what he did, and that the police would answer me.

After he practically kicked me out of the car I rushed home, but no one was there. But I found the door open, and a puddle of blood on the floor.

The police was nearby and explained what had happened:

My dad was obsessively jealous and had found a pack of old condoms in the cupboard, so he drew the conclusion that my mum must have cheated on him. Never mind the fact that we only recently moved into this apartment, and they could have been left by previous tenants, or the fact that he controlled my mum’s very step and never let her go anywhere alone. The police took me to the hospital, where my mum, luckily alive, was being treated.

My dad had smashed her skull in with a full wine bottle. The only reason she survived was because my little brother, 7 at the time, intervened. If it weren’t for him, my dad would have ki**ed my mum in a fit of jealousy.

When he said that I would not see him again, he meant that he had planned on ki**ing himself shortly after dropping me off. He did not succeed, and police managed to get him into a mental ward.

This, to this date, is the scariest thing that had ever happened to me, but I keep thinking of my brother all the time. To witness your own mum being beaten half-d**d by your dad. We both suffered extreme mental trauma from this event later down the line, but somehow turned into decent people. I never really told him how grateful I am he was there, but I think that I really, really should.”

Man Refuses to Pay for Anything Anymore for This Stepdaughter. Is He Wrong?

Every parent is different when it comes to how far they’ll go money-wise for their kids or their stepkids.

And we’re about to read a story from a guy on the “Am I The A**hole?” page on Reddit because he’s locked in a battle about how much he’s willing to pay for his teenage stepdaughter.

Let’s see what he had to say.

AITA for not paying for anything anymore for my stepdaughter?

“My stepdaughter (14) who we’ll A doesn’t like me because she thinks her real dad is better but he doesn’t do anything to help. All he does is do crack and use his girlfriends for money.

A believes her dad buys all the things she gets. Her birthday presents, toys, clothes, and gadgets are from all from me or her mom but she honestly believes he gets them for her. She isn’t just rude to me, she’s rude to everyone. Like her mom or neighbor, or just people that bump into her.

My wife has tried counseling and therapy but it’s only effective for a couple of days before she snaps. I haven’t grounded her or anything. I leave the punishing to her mom but she still can’t behave. Recently her birthday came up and I bought her a phone she had been wanting and she called her dad and thanked him while still being rude to me.

I honestly am at my limit. I can’t take this disrespect anymore. I know she’s just a child but it stills gets to me. I told my wife I won’t be paying for anything she needs or wants anymore.

I’m not going to tolerate disrespect while still being financially responsible for her. My wife is saying I’m insensitive and an a**hole but I completely disagree.

AITA?”

Now let’s take a look at how people responded on Reddit.

This reader said that this can be fixed in one very easy step…

Another Reddit user said that people can be delusional and can create their own realities in their heads.

And that might be what’s going on here…

This person said that maybe the stepdad needs to do some things with his stepdaughter instead of not giving her gifts anymore and maybe that would make her realize what’s really going on with her father.

Finally, this person who is an admitted addict said that people who are addicts become very good at lying. And you know the dad in this story is most likely feeding his daughter all kinds of BS.

This Person Asked if They’re a Jerk for Not Getting Their Own Streaming Services

I’ve heard countless stories about people figuring out how to use the streaming services of their friends and family members…and sometimes people get really upset at folks who aren’t buying these services on their own.

And here’s another tale of streaming service drama from a girl whose being called out for using their boyfriend’s passwords to watch all kinds of content.

Check out this story from Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?” page.

AITA for getting my own streaming services?

“My boyfriend (28m) has given our streaming service passwords to several of his friends (Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney+, etc).

If you’re someone who shares a streaming service with several people, you’re probably aware that there’s a cap on how many people can stream at once. Since our streaming services are being shared with so many people (he doesn’t remember how many people and which of his friends he shared it with.) It’s very difficult to watch anything since there’s always multiple people at any given time.

Whenever we try to watch a show or movie together and we can’t proceed because of limitations, he’ll excuse it by saying “we’ll just try later when they’re not watching.” The issue is someone is always watching lol.

My patience began to wear thin. So I told my boyfriend “I don’t mean to be nasty, but your friends are being freeloaders. They have jobs and if they want to use HBO Max, they can pay for their own subscription. It’s really hard to watch anything I, or we want to watch with so many people on.”

He told me I was being selfish and that since he pays for it, he can share it with whoever he wants to. So I subscribed to a few services on my personal devices and paid for them.

I was watching a show that I had been dying to watch on my laptop and my boyfriend asked if I wanted to watch something with him. I said “No thanks, I’ve been dying to catch up on this.” He then said “See? Just be patient, not everyone is watching all the time.”

I said “Oh actually I made my own account.” He got offended because he said he already pays for subscription services, so i’m just wasting my money and being childish.”

Now let’s see how readers responded to this story on Reddit.

This person said this person isn’t an a**hole and they can do whatever the hell they want with their own money.

Was This Person a Jerk For Telling Their Daughter She’s Getting What She Deserves? People Weighed In.

You deserve it!

Nobody ever wants to hear those words directed at them and now a dad is second-guessing what he said to his daughter.

He took to Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?” page to see what readers there thought about what he said.

Let’s take a look.

AITA for telling my daughter that she’s getting what she deserves?

“I (58m) have two daughters. One from a previous marriage and another from my wife’s previous marriage. Both daughters are around the same age (think mid-twenties).

My daughter Allie has never gotten along with her stepsister Johanna. If Johanna invited Allie to a movie, Allie was suddenly super busy and had no time. If Johanna wanted to come with Allie to a party, Johanna wasn’t invited and there was no way she could bring her. She’d rip up Joanna’s things and would blame Johanna when she’d be grounded.

Just the run of the mill petty teenager bullstink. Johanna was a good sport and always seemed to take things on the chin. Her explanation was always that “sisters fight”. Until about maybe three or four summers ago Allie was home from college and was going through a rough breakup that was causing her grades to tank which put her on academic probation.

Allie was upset and was taking it out on everyone, especially Johanna. My wife and I told her to cut it out and she seemed to catch on that her behavior wasn’t gonna be accepted.

Come to find out after Allie leaves to go back to college that she’d completely destroyed Johanna’s scrapbook with pictures of her dad and destroyed a lot of the shirts she had left of his. Johanna didn’t make a stink about it in front of us but that night the house stunk of E6000 and mod podge.

You could guess what she spent the night doing. After that incident Johanna had completely given up on Allie. Allie has a birthday coming up, Johanna wouldn’t even sign the card. Allie is in town for the weekend, unless it’s a holiday or family event, Johanna wasn’t there. And honestly we didn’t blame her.

Now the issue is that Allie wants Johanna to let things go and let bygones be bygones. Johanna is getting married soon, and Allie wants an invite. It was brought up this past week at a family dinner (Johanna and her fiance as well as their son attended/Allie and her wife and two girls attended as well).

Allie brought up how the kids were the same age and how it’d be cool after the wedding if the kids could hang out. Allie also asked what she should wear to Johanna’s wedding and if she’d be a bridesmaid. Johanna pretty much laid it out for Allie that she wasn’t coming and that the kids wouldn’t be seeing each other outside of family events.

The night was pretty tense afterwards and I asked Johanna if there was any way she could forgive Allie. She said she wanted nothing to do with her and I told her I fully understand that she carries a lot of hurt from how Allie treated her. Allie came to me after Johanna left and pretty much begged me to convince Johanna to move past things.

I told her that had she been a more considerate and kind person back then that maybe she’d have a chance at a relationship with her stepsister. I told her that she made her bed and she needs to lay in it. She said I’m a a-hole and that any good father would want to see his kids reunite.

AITA for telling her she deserves this?”

And here’s how folks reacted on Reddit.

This reader said, quite simply, that everyone except Johanna SUCKS in this situation. Ouch…

Another person agreed and thinks that Allie needs to make peace with her sister.

This individual said that these actions were simply sadistic. Thoughts on this comment?

And finally, this reader pointed out that this isn’t the first time this has happened and that the dad seems to let Allie do whatever the hell she pleases. Not cool!

Treasure That People Found While Metal Detecting

There’s a little show called Detectorists that centers around a couple of old friends and their frequently fruitless hobby scanning the countryside with metal detectors, ostensibly in search of some great unknown treasure.

The show, of course, isn’t really about metal detectors, it’s about friendship and fulfillment and life and love and all that good stuff. But still – it did get me wondering about people who actually spend their time doing these things, and what they might find out there.

Lucky for me, I don’t have to search long. Reddit is here with plenty of answers.

Why Did You Quit a Job on the First Day? People Shared Their Stories.

I have an embarrassing confession to make.

One time when I was a teenager, I quit a job after one day.

But I’ve only done it once in my life, so don’t give me such a hard time, okay?

It was at a video store that I had always wanted to work at, but after the first (and only) day, I knew it was a horrible idea…but I’ll save that story for my memoirs…

What made you quit a job on the first day?

AskReddit users shared their stories.

1. Locked down.

“I took a job at a lock down residential treatment center as I was desperate for a job. The interviewer said most of the kids were court ordered, and were a step away from juvie.

The interview didn’t go well so I was honestly surprised when they called me offer me the job. The morning of training was going over all of the state and federal laws that governed the place, like resident rights and staff to resident ratios and the like.

The afternoon was a tour of the facility where it became readily apparent that exact none of the laws we’d just covered were being followed.

I left at the end of the day and never came back. I had a feeling something bad was going to happen at that place. A few months later they got shut down after a riot that results in several serious injuries to both residents and staff.

Glad I wasn’t around for that.”

2. Internship.

“My first internship was at a brazilian teen detention center (it’s akin to a prison, but Brazilian law has some distinctions between crimes committed while as an adult or as a teenager – teens go through socio-educational measures).

I was walking through a courtyard with my supervisor when some doctors came running flailing their arms and screaming while officers came running from the opposite direction. I get pulled by my supervisor who just tells me to run back to our office.

These teens as young as 12 had escaped their block. A few minutes later an officer comes knocking on the doors of the offices and yelling for everyone to run outside because a fire had broken out. Some of the teens had set mattresses on fire in their cells.

I didn’t really nope out. My teacher did (she hadn’t even been there that day). So I was forced by the university to choose another place to intern at. Oh well.”

3. Ouch.

“I was 17 and working pre-cast concrete.

Refused to use a rusted to sh**ty ladder. Supervisor called me a p**sy, got up about 7 rungs before his foot went through one, heard his foot snap as he fell.

I called an ambulance and walked to my car in the parking lot.”

4. Ugh!

“Restaurant.

Swept under my station when we were closing. Giant brown pile came out with broom from under low-boy fridge. Pile began to scatter.

It was hundreds of roaches.

Never returned.”

5. Off to a bad start.

“My first ever job.

I was thirteen and I would be delivering phone books from the back of a van through peoples letterboxes.

So I’d be in the back of the van with the phone books and there was an older guy driving slowly while I went back and forth to the van/houses with the books.

At one point the van was getting quite empty so there was more space to move around and we had finished the delivery in the street we were paid to deliver to and he drove to another.

While driving there he drove lets say aggressively and I fell inside the back where the books were. I wasn’t sitting in a seat as the van had no seats in the back. As I put my hand out to steady myself I accidentally laid it across a portable radio that had its antenna extended but the antenna was also broken half-way and razer sharp.

It sliced the palm of my hand clean open 3-4 inches. I can only describe what I saw as gruesome. I said to him to pull the van over and I needed help. He saw my hand and just threw me a plastic bag, the kind you’d get at a supermarket and told me to wrap my hand in it.

Then .. he continued with the deliveries, at-least he delivered the remaining books himself.

I should have been taken to a hospital or at-least home to my parents. I quit after that and never showed up again. As you can imagine my parents were quite angry at him.”

6. Trust your gut.

“Gas station. The manager gave me a weird vibe.

I made it through the first day but didn’t go back.. Found out later he cornered another girl in the back of the store and she had to fight her way out.

Trust your gut.”

7. Nope.

“Summer job working for a landscape architect.

Got to the job site and he asked me to dig a hole in some rocky dirt. I asked for a shovel. He didn’t have one. I asked for a hand spade. He didn’t have one.

He told me to just dig the hole wit my bare hands and then he drove off to another site leaving me completely alone. I dug for a little bit and then said ‘f**k this’ and left.

Had the job specified that I needed to supply my own tools I could’ve but it didn’t and I wasn’t going to work for somebody that expected folks to dig through hard, rocky soil with their hands.”

8. “Marketing.”

“Young and naïve right out of college took a “marketing” job. My interview was great, nothing shady seemed to be going on and no immediate red flags.

After 4 hours of training, my first day consisted of going door to door in a suburban town trying to sell cable to older people. We were told to dress for business, so I’m hiking around for miles in my best skirt, suit jacket and heels. Hours were from “9-5” but we didn’t get back to the business until well after 10pm.

Not to mention, the person I was shadowing was able to make a sale to an older gentleman who seemed to have memory issues. I noped the f**k right out of there.”

9. Nutcases.

“Worked in a hotel for a day.

No one told me where anything was. Got chewed out for it.

Guests enjoying their meals told me to pay no mind/I was doing a good job and that my boss is a c**t.

I told the manager that I was quitting and wouldn’t be doing the next shift.

I arrived the next day, returning a work uniform and my supervisor approached me and yelled at me for being late. I told her I already quit but if I was working, technically I was 5 hours early for my shift.

Absolute nutcases.”

10. Sleazy.

“Electronics store.

My first day we had to attend a class where they teach people how to upsell folks. Basically walked you through ignoring what they ask you for and using their ignorance of the equipment against them. I thought that was really scuzzy.

Then they went on to tell us about a commission style bonus program that basically forced employees to upsell everyone.

When we took the break for lunch that first day I peaced out and went home. Never got paid for those four hours, but I never regretted bouncing on that.”

11. That sucks.

“They hired me to work full time. I had interviewed to work full time.

I was trying to quit a horrible job, and this job was on the other end of town. I needed enough money for the bus pass, and to make up the difference and more of quitting my old job. They hired me and showed me my schedule.

I showed up for my first day, things are going good, then my manager called me in, sat me down, and explained that they’d have to cut me down to 15 hours a week because they’d hired too many fu**ing people. I explained, painfully, that I had to take a bus an hour each way and wouldn’t be able to pay rent or food after that.

He said I could always hold out and hope people quit. I told him he could start with me, took off my apron and stormed out in tears.”

12. No thanks!

“I was hired at a chain restaurant to be a hostess.

I was so excited because my last job was washing dishes and because of my eczema, I had to quit. It was too painful to do that job.

So, I arrived at my new job dressed up to be a hostess and those mfers took me back to the kitchen to do dishes because the dishwasher just quit. I noped out of there real fast!”

Have you ever quit a job on the first day?

If so, tell us your stories in the comments.

Thanks a lot!

People Talk About What Got Ruined Because Everyone Started Doing It

I’m about date myself a little bit here, but the first time I saw Green Day play live was in a pretty small venue.

Yes, they definitely had some buzz behind them and were getting more popular by the day, but I think that show I saw was one of the last times people could see them in a smaller place.

Fast forward a few months later and they were literally one of the biggest bands in the entire universe.

And, being a teenager at the time, I of course thought that “my band” had gotten a little bit too big…but I still enjoyed their music and bought their records.

But there are some folks out there who really take it personally when something gets very popular.

People on AskReddit discussed what they think got ruined because too many people started doing it.

Let’s take a look.

1. All the rage.

“My dream of buying a van and converting it.

And tiny houses. I wanted either a tiny house or a van.

Cost has gotten so high due to the rise in popularity.”

2. The stamp wars.

For me personally, I let it be known that my little rural post office was a great place to get stamps, as no one ever checked there for stamps (I’m a stamp collector).

Well, word spread and now I have to fight with about five other collectors in the area on issue days.”

3. Terrible idea.

“I’ve seen people stand in the wildflowers at Mt. Rainier to get pictures. They’re just speeding up the process of killing these flowers.

Also the tulip fields have signs telling people not to stand in the rows because it can damage the flowers but there is always people in the rows.

Why can’t people just be decent and follow simple rules?”

4. Not anymore…

“Streaming services.

It used to be a single place where you could find any show you wanted easily, to disincentivize piracy, but now that every company and their mom has a streaming service, all with exclusive content, piracy is easier even with the ads, load times, and low quality, simply because I don’t need to pay 12 different subscriptions to watch shows.”

5. Well, now it’s ruined.

“Online communities.

They’re great when small and everyone in it has a voice.

Get too many people and the “loud” and obnoxious minority start overwhelming things.”

6. A common story.

“Small music festival I used to attend, beautiful and fun. Got together with my husband there. Then too many people started talking about how great it was, more people attending every year.

It started to get too big and I think the land owner could sense it. He no longer holds it. It was sad to see it go but easy to see it was losing its magic.”

7. Too much traffic.

“EVERYTHING tourist.

So many national parks now bumper to bumper traffic. So many places with cute shops and cafes now have police that make everyone (now butt to gutt) keep walking.

People trying to play frisbee on cram packed beaches full of dog s**t.

Too crowded.”

8. Packed.

“In Austin, Barton Creek.

Too many people on the trails, playing their stupid f**king music from their stupid f**king speakers, and not picking up after their dogs.”

9. Keep it down!

“Camping.

Almost all of the campsites I have been to in the past however many years have had a group of annoying, loud people playing stupid loud music into the night.

I go camping to enjoy nature, not to listen to you.”

10. Pretty expensive these days.

“Collecting vinyl.

I used to be able to go to the thrift stores and come home with a handful of decent records.”

11. Really sucks.

“A serene, unspoiled mountain lake was perfect for fishing, swimming, and just enjoying nature.

There were just a few summer cabins along the lakeshore and the area was kept clean. The only sounds were fish rippling the water and birds in the trees – the air naturally scented with pine.

Then, the lake was “discovered” and people started buying up every available bit of lakefront real estate to build oversize houses and docks for high-speed motor boats.

Now, as I once lamented, the pure water of the lake has become polluted and the fish are mostly gone. Outboard boat engines dominate the sound and the pine trees have been chopped down in favor of development.”

12. Where’s the community?

“The housing market because of people investing in rental properties.

Half the houses on my street are rentals.

Doesn’t even feel like I’m part of a community anymore.”

13. Not the same.

“Toronto.

It used to be a very accessible major city. Now it’s so packed with people it’s impossible to get around. Giant condo buildings everywhere. Downtown Toronto used to be so enjoyable to just aimlessly wander around through.

Quite chill for a city of its size. Now it’s just a hassle getting anywhere. I know this can be said about many other cities but Toronto in particular seems to have changed very drastically in this way.”

14. Big time.

“Thrifting.

Thrifting used to be a way to dress yourself and your home for much-much less. It used to be a way to find full-wood furniture for cheap, good quality tailored clothes that fit to a T, and furbish your home when you’re not loaded.

You can still do all of those things today, but often, the prices are much-much higher than they used to after so many people discovered that they can buy a good quality (and sometimes branded) leather bags for a few dollars and sell them on eBay for hundreds.

For many, thrifting isn’t a cool lifestyle that they inhibit because they want to be environmentally friendly and hipster-like, for many it’s a necessity.

People searching for cheap thrifted goods and then reselling them for 10x the price they paid for it is very basic market economy, and I understand that, but the very same actions have made it even harder for those on the breadline to actually dress themselves and their home.”

What’s Not a Cult but Seems Like One? People Spoke Up.

There are quite a few things out there that really do seem…well…culty, for lack of a better word.

And I’m talking about things that are definitely not considered cults…at least not yet…but hey, there’s always time!

What’s not a cult but really seems like one?

AskReddit users shared their thoughts on this subject.

1. The Order.

“In the Boy Scouts of America, there’s an honor society called the Order of the Arrow.

Just the name even sounds like one.”

2. Sell, sell, sell!

“Sales.

Anyone who’s been in sales knows there’s the weird sports/military vibe and it’s all about being all in on a product you barely understand. Also you’ll find weird acolytes of Grant Cardone, Tony Robbins, and all sorts of cheap self-help gurus that spew irresponsible levels of optimism that are supposed to hypnotize you into success.

In the end it just serves your corporate overlord because they exploit your optimism, then throw an endless supply of these bright-eyed (and often under trained) applicants through the grinder.

So yeah. Not a cult. But lots of cult elements.”

3. Interesting…

“Primerica.

Everything about it is “Does this improve your business?” I mean, it is to the point of “Who cares if the Earth revolves around the sun? Does that knowledge improve your business?” Your family, friends, S.O., if they aren’t a member, you shouldn’t spend your time with them.

Don’t have hobbies because they only distract you from your business. Having to watch what you say around them. Is there some big thing going on? Buy tickets for it, make sure you show up to it, buy as many tickets as you can, sell them to your downline, your friends, your family, go back and buy more tickets from your upline and keep selling them.

Big event out of state? Do all you can to make sure you are there. Don’t have the money? Sell your television, your video games, your collectibles, your family heirlooms, everything you have because it’s only a distraction and not as important as showing up to these events.

These events are only you sitting down in a room listening to company millionaires tell you how great the company is.

Leaving the company? Shunned. I have a friendship with a couple of former Primerica people. Those still in it refuse to admit that I exist.

Working on a book about my time there. Names are changed to avoid trouble.”

4. Gross.

“Kids sports in general.

I’ve seen parents curse out umpires in tee ball games. Parents rig teams in city run leagues so their kids are on better teams.

Every parent thinks they have the next LeBron James, Peyton Manning, or Bryce Harper. It’s ridiculous.”

5. GOOP.

“Gwyneth Paltrow and her goop psychopaths. B**ch is an absolute loon.

Now you could say she’s a genius for what she’s done but in a documentary about her and her “work” it’s like she’s oblivious to what she’s created and thinks it’s because she’s actually smart and a credited scientist. Idk how to explain it really but she hired someone to follow her around and throw fake compliments to her that are totally back handed.

It’s funny when you watch this thing. I cringed the whole time and said what the f**k a million times.”

6. Culty.

“Herbalife.

Somebody tried to convince me at gym to try it and I explicitly said no.

Those people are crazy.

Won’t leave you alone and get their entire families involved in it.”

7. Join us…

“My girlfriend is in a sorority and its insanely cult-like.

They have secret handshakes and songs that she refuses to show me, claiming “we all swore an oath” or something.

I tell her that I promise you some of your sisters have definitely told their boyfriends/other friends whatever secrets y’all have going on and it’s not that serious, but she is undeterred.”

8. Agreed!

“The American obsession with political parties.

As a non-American, idolizing your politicians and voting based on party and not policy is just weird to me.”

9. AA.

“Al**holics Anonymous.

Essentially encourages you to cut drinkers out of your life and members tell newcomers “we’re your new friends now”.

You hand over control of your life to a “higher power” but in truth you hand it over to the group and your sponsor.”

10. Escaped.

“Marathon runners.

The obsession, the way it governs your life — getting enough sleep, early nights on the weekend for long training runs, talking about it incessantly, etc.

Ex-marathon runner. I escaped the cult!”

11. He has a huge audience.

“Joe Rogan listeners.

I’ve expressed this out loud to groups of folks, some of which listen to Rogan.

The cultish vibe of it put me off to listening to his show a while back….and apparently now he’s irritating folks with Covid related stuff so I just don’t see myself ever listening to it.

The cult makes me feel like if I don’t want to try DMT I haven’t lived a full life. Like….what the f**k? Really?”

12. Definitely.

“Fox News.

They keep dropping bits into sentences like “you’re not one of THEM are you?”

Very culty behavior.”

13. Always seemed weird to me.

“Disney worship.

As much as I like some of their stuff, I can’t fathom why people get so rabid defending them. To me they’re just a corporation that makes entertainment but others… it’s a way of life and it blows my mind when you run across someone that’ll start cursing you out for criticizing anything the company does.

The same goes for their work culture in the theme parks. Never worked there myself, but from the friends I have that did, they talk about the whole experience as some bizarre fever dream of constantly having to smile, forced to sing songs during meetings, never allowed to break character, all so as not to shatter the illusion that it’s the happiest place in earth.”

Do you think some things seem like cults even though they officially aren’t?

Talk to us in the comments.

Please and thank you!
