This Cute Bat Loves Being Petted and Even Makes Happy Noises

Here’s something very sweet.

A bat makes adorable, squeaky happy noises while getting pets.

His name is Jeddah and he’s a juvenile bat. The video was made by Mandi Griffith, a staffer with Sydney Wildlife.

This is Jeddah. He loves to be tickled, petted and scratched. Look at that blissful face. Jeddah is a Grey-Headed Flying-Fox. I usually clip my videos quite short when it’s all one behaviour being shown, but this bliss went on and on and I just couldn’t bring myself to deprive you of any of the lengthy joy. I particularly loved the yawny and sniffy bits about half way through. And I love the curl of the tongue as he yawns.

This bat was not releasable due to injuries.  He is in care with a vaccinated and licensed bat carer. This bat is not a pet.  He was a baby hand raised for release, and became an education animal. He is used to being handled.  He actively solicits attention and cuddles. There have been suggestions that this bat is terrified and the squeaks are not cute. This bat is in bliss and is able to get away from the carer at any time. He is choosing to be stroked. He solicits attention.

This particular species of fruit bat is known as a megabat and is native to Australia. They’re one of the largest bats in Australia with a wingspan of a meter. Their conservation status, unfortunately, is vulnerable, as their numbers are decreasing.

Isn’t he adorable? Say it with me, “Awwwwwwwwwwww!!!”

Alright, if bats were this cute, would you want one as a pet?

Cute Sloths Squeak to Each Other While Hanging Around

Sloths are some of the cutest animals on the planet. Not only are they super fuzzy and adorable looking, but they’re also very slow-moving and gentle. And they love nothing more than just hanging around.

These little sloth friends are doing just that, all while making a truly heartwarming squeaking sound.

Just try not to squeal yourself while watching this video:

These sloths are hanging out at the Sloth Sanctuary of Costa Rica, a nonprofit dedicated to carrying for abandon, injured and orphaned sloths in Costa Rica.

If you pay a visit to Costa Rica, you can even take a tour of the sanctuary. But unfortunately, you won’t be able to hold or touch the sloths, as it’s very stressful for sloths to be handled too much by humans. Tourists can also accidentally introduce diseases and bacteria to the sloth, which isn’t good.

You can always look at photos and videos of them online, however.

Look at that sloth to stuffed animal ratio! It’s ADORBS!

Try to make sure you are getting plenty of sleep! Sleep helps you feel more refreshed and is excellent for your health. This tiny rescued Choloepus sloth is a good little sleeper! 🍃🌿🌱

I mean seriously just how cute is this little one. Enjoying that leaf like a boss!

We sure miss having guests on our tours and at our inn, but being closed at this time is right to do our part to help…

Well, it’s now officially official. We’ll be spending the rest of the day looking at these cute rescue sloths! And booking the next flight to Costa Rica right after I get down writing this.

What’s your favorite mammal? Are you a fan of sloths, or do you think they’re overhyped?

Couple Built a Miniature Old Western Town for Their Backyard Chickens

Not only are chickens great pets, but they also serve the handy function of producing daily eggs during their prime laying years. This means fewer trips to the store for you and your family.

One couple decided to show his appreciation for his backyard chickens in a totally unique and special way. He built them an entire miniature town out of their coops, and it’s made to look like the set of an old Western movie.

Here’s the hotel, cafe and mercantile:

And just look at the level of detail in the cafe window (although we wonder how the chickens would feel if they could read):

Even the chicken’s watering station is decked out:

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look inside one of the coops:

This level of creativity and commitment is truly admirable. These chicken owners truly went all-in for their feathered friends! We’re sure they appreciate all this hard work and are happily pecking away and laying eggs accordingly.

Would you ever consider keeping backyard chickens? Do you already have chickens? Why or why not?

A Very Rare White Grizzly Bear Was Spotted in Canada Recently

Grizzly bears are a sight under even normal circumstances. But a very special bear in Canada is drawing even more attention than usual for these furry creatures.

His name is Nakoda and he’s totally white.

Biologists say that white grizzly bears are incredibly rare, as this species typically has fur ranging in color from very dark brown to light tan. But their fur typically doesn’t go any lighter than that, except for Nakoda, of course. He was first spotted in 2017 but is gaining popularity recently, thanks to some new photos surfacing on social media. He’s been spotted most recently in Banff National Park, where park officials have watched him grow up since he was a cub.

And nope, he’s definitely a grizzly bear, not a polar bear in the wrong part of the world.

Meet 'Nakoda' the White Grizzly! After going through hundreds of submissions and tallying up the votes, The number one…

Posted by Bow Valley Network on Thursday, May 21, 2020

He was even spotted on video hanging out with a darker-colored bear friend, digging around in the snow.

It’s not totally clear whether this bear is male or female, but experts suspect s/he is about three years old. Wildlife officials are worried that the bear’s rare white fur will cause people to seek him out, which could make it more difficult for the bear to move around freely. Worse, it could lead to human-bear conflicts.

Hopefully, people will be respectful of this majestic and wild animal, giving him plenty of space to thrive and roam.

Have you had any epic wildlife sightings while traveling? We’d love to hear from you!

Moose and Her Babies Spent the Day Lounging in a Man’s Backyard

If you love nature, then you probably get pretty hyped up when an unusual bird makes a stop at your backyard feeder. But imagine just how stoked you would be to find a moose and her calves hanging out in your backyard — that’s a seriously next-level nature experience.

One man in Alaska enjoyed exactly that scenario when a mother moose and her two babies spent the day lounging around in his yard.

Just look how relaxed they are!

Posted by Roland Rydstrom on Tuesday, June 2, 2020

The calves are so precious:

Ahhh, that’s the spot:

Here are they are almost cuddling:

Can you imagine watching these large animals do their thing, just outside your door?

Posted by Roland Rydstrom on Tuesday, June 2, 2020

They even tried sampling the patio furniture:

Posted by Roland Rydstrom on Tuesday, June 2, 2020

Hmm. On second thought, these bushes taste way better:

Posted by Roland Rydstrom on Tuesday, June 2, 2020

This moose encounter is just so darn cute, but it’s also important to remember that animal mothers can be very protective of their young. If they feel threatened, they will not hesitate to protect their babies in whatever way necessary. This man appears to have done the right thing by staying indoors and just snapping some photos. It’s best to leave wildlife alone, generally speaking.

Have you ever had a backyard wildlife encounter that blew your mind? We’d love to hear from you!

People Muse on What Animal Would Be the Most Terrifying Were It as Smart as a Human

There are some animals that you wish were smarter so that you could truly be friends – like your dog or cat, for instance, or maybe your bird (though most birds are at least as smart as my toddlers).

Then there are animals you definitely wouldn’t want to see with human smarts, because then there likely wouldn’t be any more humans. I mean, the obvious one is apes, because they’ve made multiple moves about that, but I also think wasps, snakes, or pretty much any predator that’s bigger than us would also have to go on that list.

These 15 Redditors have some out-of-the-box ideas that will get your gears grinding, though, and make you look at a topsy-turvy world in a whole new light.

15. I mean they already scare us and they’re so small and dumb.

Spiders.

All of those legs and eyes! Ugh.

14. I think they essentially made a movie about this, too.

Probably ants.

There’s so many of them working together that they could become our new evil overlords.

13. Maybe we could all just get along?

To be honest I think one of the reasons why we have to consider some animals “pests” and “lesser” beings is because we can’t reason with them. We can’t make them understand consequences and set boundaries, even if the boundaries are arbitrary and in the spirit of “if you do this we will retaliate like that.” We can’t make them understand that even in just their own perspective they will benefit with some level of planning and cooperation.

If another animal group gained this cognitive ability, I don’t think it would be outside our human capability to work better with them than purely against them, and I think any intelligent species that has to live so close beside us would also learn that cooperation is in their better interest as well.

That said, the biggest damage that I think we humans would suffer from should a species suddenly change would be the ones that force us to change the most. So an animal that already lives around people but isn’t treated as family. I think there would be some hellish moral quandaries if rats or mice suddenly became a race we had to care for/about on an individual level.

12. They just need to figure out a couple of things!

Flies.

If they were clever enough to leave through an open window they would be unstoppable!

11. This would pretty much be my worst nightmare.

Yellow jackets.

Cunts with wings AND human intelligence

10. Just thinking about this totally freaks me out.

It’s amazing that nobody has said rats.

Rats are EVERYWHERE there are people. If rats wanted to they could destroy our infrastructure with only their teeth. Mobile, sneaky, small, breed like crazy, and ubiquitous. What are birds or monkeys REALLY going to do to civilization? Monkeys are super rare in the world. Birds aren’t really that strong all they have is mobility, really. We have ways of dealing with birds.

But rats? They’re universal. Once they figure out rat poison they’ll be nearly unstoppable. They’re mobility, unlike birds, gives them coverage. They easily outnumber the feline population and once they learn that all they need to do is swarm the cats then it’s game over.

The only reason they aren’t much worse of a problem is because they don’t have the intelligence to utilize their insane numbers.

9. With very good reason.

Cows.

They would have a personal vendetta against the majority of humans.

8. That’s way too many legs.

Centipedes.

If they assembled they can create hyperpedes.

Who knows what they can do with that pelage.

7. This would definitely be the end of the human race.

This is easy: monkeys/apes.

Opposing thumbs – check.

Superhuman strength – check.

Shit flinging tendencies – that’s a big check.

Monkeys are already awful and bad. Bad monkeys. Smart monkeys would be a nightmare.

6. If only they could learn to breathe outside the water.

Octopuses are already really clever.

And there’s some indications that under proper conditions, they may become more social; i.e., learning from and teaching each other.

But could you imagine if crows had human like cognitive abilities? They can already learn, count, follow patterns, attack, and remember faces.

5. This should definitely have been toward the top of the list.

G E E S E.

Those fuckers are mean enough right now… imagine if they got smart!

4. Ahahahaha… that last part.

Snakes.

Imagine if they had the ability to go on Expedia and book their own airline tickets…

3. They like to curse so it might not be all bad.

Parrots.

There’s the obvious they can hold objects and fly, their speech capability is what would set them ahead.

While other animals like apes and reptiles would spent their intelligence in fighting each other, parrots can quickly talk it out and realise that the real enemy is us…..

Wouldn’t be surprised if the peekaboos and the parrot will quickly turn into “look at me, I’m the captain now.”

2. I do not like that, Sam I Am.

Bugs in general.

They could all team up on us and wipe out half of the human race.

1. Idk I think they would probably just leave us alone.

If cats had the intelligence and ability to text you, they wouldn’t.

I think humans don’t stop to think about how good we’ve got it here at the top, at least in the brains department, often enough!

What would you add to this list and why? Let’s chat about it in the comments!
