‘Tiger King’ Inspired a Florida Sheriff to Pursue New Leads in Missing Persons Case

If there’s one thing that seems to have united viewers of Netflix’s Tiger King documentary, the story of the fascinating people who own roadside zoos, practice polygamy, and/or advocate for captive big cats in the States, it’s the belief that Carole Baskin had something to do with the disappearance of her second husband.

Now, I’m not saying she definitely killed Don Lewis, slathered him in anchovy paste, and fed his body to her tigers, but I am saying she knows more than she’s saying…and also that she definitely wanted/needed his money.

Don Lewis was last seen in 1997, and even though Carole has denied knowing anything at all about what might have happened to him, Don’s daughter Donna accused her of being involved way back in 1998. Lewis was declared dead in 2002 and Carole inherited millions, all of which has made fans about as suspicious of her as Joe Exotic has been all of these years.

And guys. Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister must think so, too, because after the documentary really took off, he asked viewers of the show to contact him with any information regarding Don Lewis’s disappearance.

“Since Netflix and COVID-19 quarantine has made Tiger King all the rage, I figured it was a good time to ask for new leads.”

He also shared a photo and asked anyone who might have new leads to contact his office and y’all – they’re delivering new leads to the tune of “six or so tips a day.”

Carole’s case may be a lot of circumstantial evidence, gut feelings, and her nervous laugh, but Robert Moor, a podcast producer, had a few other juicy tidbits to share via Twitter.

“After Don Lewis vanished, but before Carole married Howard [Baskin], she dated a guy named Jay Baykal. In 2002, Jay filed a restraining order against Carole, which includes some bizarre and suspicious-sounding details regarding Don’s disappearance.”

He posted images of the restraining order, in which he claimed that, when questioned about Lewis’s disappearance, Carole had said”a dead body can not talk,” and mentioned that she always had a firearm within reach.

Baskin herself hasn’t responded to either Moor’s posts or the Sheriff’s request, but she has criticized the documentary on her website, calling it “salacious and sensational,” and accusing the producers of “lies and innuendo” regarding the episode about Don’s disappearance.

There’s no way to know right now whether or not Don’s disappearance will ever be solved, but it looks like, with the popularity of the show, that the trail might not be as cold as law enforcement once believed.

Stay tuned!

“Hygiene Hand” Will Touch Public Surfaces For You

People are more concerned than ever about picking up germs in public. We’re hyper aware that the majority of bugs enter our body after we’ve touched a surface with our hands, then touched our eyes, nose, or mouth before we’ve had a chance to wash.

Gloves aren’t a good answer, unless you’re going to change them after each time you touch a public surface, but this newly designed brass “Hygiene Hand” just might be.

View this post on Instagram

We quickly hit our goal for the Hygiene Hand on Kickstarter yesterday, and wanted to say thank you to all past and present backers. More importantly, we're grateful that we have the ability to utilize our resources from our design team, to local manufacturers to produce a tool that will minimize the spread of germs in your everyday life. In these uncertain times, we're doing what we can to contribute, and hope you're able to do the same. Help cannot (and should not) be measured in size, but in the simple act of helping. Something as small as listening to a friend/loved one, and even the act of isolating yourself is a positive contribution. Please know we're also doing our best to speed up production to get these into your hands sooner than later. We hope you're all staying safe and are well. – The Hygiene Hand by our parent company @statgear is a EDC tool which fits on your keychain and is used to help decrease the spreading of germs while performing some of your everyday tasks. When thinking about the everyday tasks we encounter, we wanted to help "flatten the curve" by making a tool which allowed you to touch buttons, sign digital screens, and even open doors WITHOUT the use of your finger/hand touching the same surfaces as 100's of other people! The Hygiene Hand is made from solid brass which is inherently anti-microbial, meaning viruses are unable to naturally thrive. In addition, it's eco-friendly, durable, and beautiful (this will develop a beautiful patina over time). It's also proudly made in the USA ?? – *Please note we're not making any specific medical claims that the Hygiene Hand will completely protect anyone from coronavirus or other pathogens, but are stating the fact from a lot of published research that copper and its alloys such as brass are inherently antimicrobial where viruses will naturally be unable to thrive. – Please visit our campaign to learn more! The tool was created by emergency prep company StatGear Tools, and is made to be carried every day in your pocket or purse in order to protect your hand from surface germs.

From the website:

Meet the Hygiene Hand, an EDC tool which fits on your keychain and is used to help decrease the spreading of germs while performing some of your everyday tasks.

When thinking about the everyday tasks we encounter, we wanted to help “flatten the curve” by making a tool which allowed you to touch buttons, sign digital screens, and even open doors WITHOUT the use of your finger/hand touching the same surfaces as 100’s of other people!

The Hygiene Hand is made from solid brass which is inherently anti-microbial, meaning viruses are unable to naturally thrive.

The company is raising funds through a Kickstarter project to help ease public anxiety about how to really stay clean in public, and avoid bringing home germs to the people we love.

You can use the tool to literally do anything your hands or fingers can do – open doors, use an ATM, enter door codes, pick up your grocery bags – which means only needing to disinfect your brass tool when you get home and not your entire body.

Personally, I think this is a great idea, though whether people will use it enough to make it become second nature is a whole other question.

I love how people are thinking outside the box to make our world safer, though! Cheers to that!

People Remind Us All Why There’s Still Good in the World

The world’s a major shit show right now and it’s easy to get depressed and only think about the negative things going on.

But I’m here to tell you that it’s important to stay positive right now and to focus on all the good things that make life worth living.

And so are all these people who sounded off online.

Here’s what AskReddit users had to say.

1. Take it all in.

“I think about all the natural wonders, all the organisms (both beautiful and terrifying) that inhabit this earth with me, I think about the fact that no matter how bad things seem on our pale blue dot the cosmos are massive, complex, and new stars are still being born in stellar nurseries all the time.

I also like to think of my life from a historical context. Needed a root canal a few weeks ago and was pretty bummed about it till I remember that old timey dentistry was whiskey and some dude with a steady hammering hand.

Hardcore History and other such shows are also excellent work out motivation ? my ancestors used to have to be ready to throw down and scrap! This bike ride to the grocery store is a cake walk comparatively and it’s good for me too.”

2. Good for you!

“I’m not homeless anymore, my chronic illness is in remission, so I can feed myself and even work outside the house.

Life is good!”

3. Still alive.

“That despite the fact I suffer kidney failure and I’m on dialysis 3 days a week, I remind myself that I’m at least still alive and can still be with my family many other serious illnesses don’t give that luxury.”

4. Doing just fine.

“I think about the fact that all things considered I’m reasonably healthy and there’s no warrant out for my arrest.”

5. The key to life.

“That experiences with people is what matters most, not money or material.”

6. Clear your mind.

“Riding my bike and listening to music, it takes my mind off of everything, and I forget what’s going on and I’m just happy.”

7. The little things.

“One thing that reminds me that everything isn’t all bad is that I have people and pets that want me around. I can have an utterly terrible day, come home, and my dog is waiting at the door to greet me. Every day. I’ll go lay down, and he’ll come cuddle with me.

My sister notices the funk, and will make me dinner or a dessert or something to lift my spirits, and I don’t have to say a word. I’m close enough with my best friend that he can notice something off about me just by the way I text, and he’ll come over to play some video games and talk.

Please, please remember that there are people around you that love you and care for you. When you’re having an utterly shit day, there are people that actively want to make it better because they care for you. You may not notice the ways that they do it, but they do.

It can be as simple as just asking how your day was (they know; they can tell,) or as elaborate as taking you out to unwind and have a fun time to forget and relax. No one is ever alone in this world, even if you feel it. And, if you genuinely feel it, message me. I’m always welcoming conversations from anyone.”

8. Still going strong.

“When I lay down at night with my cat (who is 20 years old). She’s such a love bug and I am so lucky to have had her this long and all the stress just melts away ❤

9. Enjoy it while it lasts.

“We’re only here for a minute.

Enjoy it.”

10. Let’s see how it plays out.

“I can die later. The world is going to kill me whether I like it or not, so why not stick around for a few more decades and see what happens?

In some ways it’s comforting to know I don’t have to do this forever and I don’t have to kill myself. Curiosity and things to look forward to.

Even TV shows, games, movies, or visits from relatives. I always pick something to look forward to.”

11. Little helpers.

“My kids.

They are helping me more then anything else right now.”

12. To your health!

“I had a stroke a couple of weeks ago (only 27 and no health explanation for the event) and while I was in the hospital walking down the hall with my good old buddy Winston (what I named my IV drip machine pumping me with blood thinner) an older gentleman across the hall saw me and told his nurse I was far too young to be in the ICU.

He had a little plastic pumpkin for Halloween and not much else so he asked the nurse to give it to me.

I never found out which patient gave me that pumpkin but since the stroke, whenever things get stressful I look at it (now sitting on my desk at work) and remember that everything is okay. I plan on keeping my little plastic stroke pumpkin for the rest of my life however long or short it may be.”

13. You’ll do a great job.

“High school is almost over and a new chapter of my life is about to start :)”

14. Still breathing.

“That I’m still breathing. After two suicide attempts I haven’t had a negative thought like that in a long fucking time, a year to be exact. I haven’t had a drink in a few weeks and yeah, I’m starting back at a job that I lost a few years ago.

Surprised that they’re giving me another shot. Also, it’s winter but it’s been so beautiful the last week, and when my husband gets off work, we’re gonna go down to the water and just kick it.”

15. Sometimes, that’s all you need.

“I have a roof over my head.”

We’d like to hear from you, too.

In the comments, tell us what reminds you that there is still good in the world.

Keep your head up! We’ll all get through this difficult time!

People Talk About Red Flags That Are Warning Signs in Friendships

Paying attention to all the red flags out there is not only limited to romantic relationships.

You need to look for them in your regular friendships as well. Trust me on this one, a terrible friend can make your life just as miserable as someone you’re sleeping with.

So remember to keep your eyes open with your friends as well because a bad friend can be a major bummer and they can be really hard to get rid of.

Here’s what AskReddit users had to say.

1. Don’t bring the bad vibes.

““Good vibes only” friends. That mentality is fine to have with yourself. But you can’t force that on others.

My best friend adopted this attitude and from then on, whenever I would come to her for support or advice on an issue I was having, she’d cut me off and say, “Ah ah ah! Good vibes only, remember?” Because I was bringing her down.

I put up with it for a long time because I thought she was right, that I was burdening her. But then I finally realized that that’s not how real friends act. They’re supposed to support and help each other.”

2. I’m over here!

“Having their damn phone in their face the whole time. If they do that, they don’t want a friend, they want company. It’s not the same.”

3. This drives me insane.

“Friends who constantly call you for advice but, never take it and continue to involve you in their drama.

If you’re not going to make moves to improve your situation stop asking me for help.”

4. Pay attention to these.

“When they pressure you to do things for them (or a certain way) and act like you were on board the whole time. (coercion)

They say they are “holding you accountable” to something you never wanted in the first place. (gaslighting)

They take the “high road” when you get angry because they won’t respect your boundaries. (play the victim).”

5. Insensitive.

“They never say anything supportive of you. But they will point of your flaws, and can’t wait to burn you, because its funny, to them.

And then the follow up of “you’re too sensitive” “It’s just joking”.”

6. This is frustrating.

“Friends that are a one way street. I was always the one to message, call, or make plans with them. I was always the one to check up on them to see if they were okay. I always offered a helping hand and be there for them.

I decided to stop to see if they would reach out to me, but we never spoke to me again. Oh, well.”

7. “Emotional vampires.”

“Friends that aren’t happy for your success and happiness, but are very close when you’re sad.”

8. Look out for this one.

“This is subtle and a bit counterintuitive but beware of the rescuer-martyr. The person that’s always rushing out to help and give everyone else their all whether or not it’s needed or whether the recipient is comfortable with it. They are good people, very well intentioned and saintly in their generosity with their time and energy.

However, sometimes it goes to the extreme and then it’s more a symptom of a toxic cycle where they only get meaning and self-worth when they are saving someone; or maybe they keep swooping into other people’s lives to fix things in hopes that someone will do the same for them.

They may have good intentions but they tend not to have good boundaries; they get overinvolved in your life; take on way too much and make everyone’s problems their own. They end up overwhelmed, mired in drama, and resentful. And then they become the martyr.

The problem with being friends with this type of person is that you’re not in an equal friendship where you like each other, enjoy spending time with each other; and when there happen to be downs, you support each other through them.

It’s more like you’re a project, everyone’s a project; and once you stop being a project you’re now support – not just for them and their own problems, but part of the fire brigade for their other projects (which they’ve internalized as their own problems and drama).”

9. That gets pretty old.

“If you have had a friend for a long time, but you only seem to be able to talk about memories in the past.

Each time you get together or exchange messages, it’s “Remember in high school….” or “Remember that time when….”

Could be a sign that you both have grown apart and do not have much in common today that you can connect on.”

10. All about them.

“Friends who are always happy to talk about themselves but never once ask you how you’re doing or anything engaging you to talk about yourself.”

11. Best friends!

“Personally I’ve always had bad experiences with people who say everyone is their “best friend.”

When my best friend in high school started calling 10 different people including me her best friend, that was when I knew I was just an accessory, and she was trying to surround herself with people to love her.”

12. This happens ALL THE TIME.

“When they ditch you the moment they start dating someone.”

13. Bullying is bad.

“They try to correct your personal preferences for you. Bully you out of liking certain clothing/music/foods/art, etc. They’ll often frame it as if they’re doing you a favor.

It’s a sign of emotional immaturity when people treat others like play objects rather than human beings.”

14. Don’t be a flake.

“Being flaky.

Nobody is that busy for a 2 second text to cancel plans or to not even agree to them at all.”

Beware of these kinds of people!

It’ll probably help you out a lot in the long run.

What are the red flags you look for in your friendships?

Hilarious Replies to People Who Think Being Called “Karen” Is Offensive

You probably know by now that people online are using the name “Karen” to describe any middle-aged (or older) white woman who is entitled, wants to speak to the manager (with her bad haircut), or who generally just doesn’t get how the world today works.

As someone who has a friend named Karen, well…they’re not always wrong. Just sayin’.

Some “Karens” out there feel like the label is akin to a racist or classist slur, though, and for those people….well, these 13 replies are pretty darn fitting.

13. Just a little truth bomb to get us started.

12. It’s all pretty funny, to be honest.

11. Definitely just proving the point.

2. Short, sweet, and to the point.

1. It’s just a little too on the nose.

I’m dying, because really…these people complaining are just reinforcing the point.

Neighbors Took Creative Revenge to Stop a Package Thief

Stealing packages is easy to pull off, and it’s big problem. It’s also a bit odd. A would-be thief sees a box on a porch – they have no idea what’s inside. But they’re compelled to steal it anyway, just in case it’s something good.

One story on r/PettyRevenge outlined some very petty revenge for the theft of a package that, ironically, was probably no value to the new recipient whatsoever.

It’s a pretty wild ride.
