Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard Role-Play Apologies When They Fight in Front of Their Kids

Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard may be a celebrity couple living in the spotlight, but they are as real as any normal couple out there.

They’re also very open about their relationship, the good and the bad, including how they’ve entered couples therapy.

Back in 2017, Shepard revealed to Us Weekly that he and Bell don’t believe they are each other’s “one.” “We are opposites,” he said, “and it has taken a tremendous amount of work and therapy for us to coexist.

In other words, they fight just like regular couples.

Recently, they argued so badly, that afterward they didn’t even talk to each other for three days.

On the Life Is Short With Justin Long podcast, Bell said the whole thing started when Shepard told her he felt “controlled” by the notes she’d left him asking him to do things around the house.

“I don’t actually remember what happened, but what transpired was a lot of volume, a lot of harsh words being thrown around, and it was an angry, angry fight about how nobody does anything for anybody else.”

Then, during an appearance on The Motherly Podcast, Bell went on to explain how their fights get resolved while also setting a good example for their girls.

She and Shepard realized that while their daughters often see them disagree, they aren’t usually around when the two make up. They agreed to role-play their apologies so the kids can see how loving adults resolve their differences.

We’ll come home, we’ll be tense with each other, we’ll snap at each other in the kitchen — not realising they’re witnessing it. We put them to bed, we go into the bedroom, and just privately we’ll say, “God, I’m sorry I snapped at you, I’ve had a really tough day.”

So [Dax] said, let’s make a deal that whenever we make up behind closed doors, that we role-play the next morning. Every time we’re testy with each other, the next morning I’ll say, “Good morning, Daddy — I just wanted to say, last night, I had a really long day and I’m sorry that I snapped at you about, you know, not having the dinner that you wanted.”

And he would say, “Yeah, Mommy, you’re right, I had a hard day too, and I’m really sorry.”

And then we physically kiss and hug.

Now THAT is love.

In this way, their children can see how the adults in their lives should behave and then they learn too. She doesn’t expect them to just know these lessons any other way.

When it comes to celebrity couples, Kristen and Dax are the best.
