People Talk About What They’d Show Folks From 1995 to Blow Their Minds

I live in awe of the crazy machines we all have in our pockets. I will genuinely just marvel at the same phone I’ve had for two years and think “How does all of this fit in one tiny little slab?”

It’s weird how quickly we get used to it. Every new innovation is amazing for about a week and then it’s just normal. But when you look back long enough and realize how those innovations have accumulated, the difference is stark and shocking. Reddit user AmJusAskin must have been in this same mindset when they took to r/AskReddit to ask:

You have 10 minutes to show someone from 1995 stuff on your phone to blow their mind as much as possible, what do you show them? from AskReddit

Thousands of people responded, with a lot of common themes popping up.

1. Keep in mind, it wouldn’t take too much.

The ability to backspace on the calculator would be enough for me in 1995.

– DeckhandFlout

2. Around that time, a Motorola flip phone was $1,000.

I had a pager in 1995.

I’d be impressed with just the phone and camera.

– coronanabooboo

3. And any call from any phone was expensive if it was “long distance.”

I’d chat to someone in Canada to show them that I can call someone (through Skype or fb messenger) and it won’t cost me a penny!

– SenorDuck96

4. Basic mechanics we now take for granted were once revolutionary.

In 2007 when Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone the audience gasped when he showed you can scroll by sliding your finger on the screen and it comes to a smooth stop.

So that would be interesting…

– anDokDok

5. Not to mention the truly amazing stuff.

Google street-view is something that’s pretty simple but would absolutely melt people’s minds back then.

Being able to see every street in a city across the planet? Incredible.

– failing_forwards

6. Gaming has come a long way, too.

Considering I’ve lived through every gameboy, “1995 Me” would be most blown away by the Nintendo Switch so I’d probably show them that.

– Jasher1125

7. There were no true “social media” sites in ’95.

Their future Facebook page.

– KaleBrecht

8. Of course, if we’re time traveling, might as well profit.

Show him what bitcoin is…

Tell him to invest and meet me in 10 minutes.

– doyoubelieveincrack

9. Some things would look right out of Star Trek.

3D printers

– thebabish

10. Even the mundane could be awesome.

The Dominos Pizza TrackerTM

– aaronappleseed

11. And why not do some epic trolling?

I’d rickroll them.

Not only they will be shocked from seeing my smartphone playing high quality video with crisp audio, they’ll also realize years later on that they’ve been rickrolled.

– ItikKing

12. No more language barriers

Google translate. Point it at a sign written in Spanish and watch it translate into English before their eyes.

The first time I used it I was at a Peruvian restaurant with my in-laws. We sat down and I saw that the menu was in Spanish. Not speaking Spanish, I remembered that I had Google Translate on my phone. I opened the app, chose Spanish, and pointed the camera at the menu expecting to take a photo of it and have it translated. Then I looked at the camera and realized that I did have an English menu after all because it was all in English.

But that didn’t seem right, so I looked at my menu again without my phone and, yes, still Spanish.

I went back and forth a couple of times before I realized it was translating in real-time.

The future punched me hard in the mouth that day, my friends. Very hard.

I remember when I first saw a portable TV. It was the size of a breadbox, needed like 8 huge batteries to run for an hour, and got terrible reception. It was incredible. I think in that moment a smart phone would have straight up given me a heart attack.

What would you show someone from ’95 to blow their mind?

Teacher Gets His Students Dancing to “Uptown Funk” and His Performance Is the Highlight

Teachers can get bored at school just like the students. So, sometimes, they like to shake things up. And, if they’re really imaginative, they can get the whole class moving to a fun song and upload a video of the shenanigans for everyone to enjoy.

Recently, in Dallas, a teacher named Scot A. Pankey who teaches at A. Maceo Smith New Tech High School told the kids they were making a music video of all of them dancing to “Uptown Funk.”

It turned out to look like a lot of fun.

The video starts out with Mr. Pankey sitting at his desk, tapping his pencil and looking bored out of his mind when the music begins.

Then, the funk grabs him and he tosses his pencil in the air before he dances through the classroom and out of the door.

At first, he’s joined by only a couple of students in matching sequined costumes, then the group grows until the hallways are filled with kids performing some slick choreographed moves. It looks as if the whole thing was filmed with one camera in one shot. Wow!

See the whole video below:

Mr. Pankey, you look like you’ve done this sort of thing before. Those moves look way too hot and polished!

Dachshund Puppy Is so Happy That His Humans Are Home, He Sprained His Tail

Dogs sure are happy right now! Forced lockdowns, the closure of bars and restaurants, and work from home agreements now mean humans are home all day and night.

This means they now have access to cuddles, belly scratches, and games all day long! Of course, they have no idea why their humans are actually home. The reason isn’t a happy one, but they definitely see the silver lining.

One dog-owner shared a funny story about the Dachshund puppy, Rolo.

He’s so adorable, right?!

Rolo is so happy that his humans are home, he learned the hard way that there’s such a thing as too much joy.

As you know, dogs have several tell-tale ways of letting the world when they feel content.

Everything from perking up, and also wagging their tail.

Mum said I looked cute ?

A post shared by Rolo. 7 year old Sausage. UK. (@rolo.thehotdog) on

Just look at Rolo happy to be quarantined at home with his lovely humans!

Unfortunately, Rolo wagged his tail too hard and sprained it!

Thankfully, the injury wasn’t serious and he was able to move it somewhat, but Rolo needed to get some rest.

As you can see, he’s still able to walk and run around outside and is recovering quite well.

Updates about Rolo went viral and people showed their concern, well wishes, and puppy photos!

Fellow puppies also sent well wishes!

Rolo because so popular that his humans even started an Instagram for him, and he seems to be quite comfortable!

Feel better Rolo! It’s nice to know that at least the world’s dogs are having great moments during these tough times.

Things You Should Know If You Get Into a Car Accident With Your Dog

Each year in the U.S., more than 4 million people are hurt in car accidents, with approximately 38,000 losing their lives. There are also 43.3 million US households with pets.

According to an Automobile Association of America survey, 84 percent of dog owners who responded said they drive with their dogs in the car.

See where I’m going with this? While there aren’t any definitive numbers we can find, there’s a good chance that dogs are involved in a significant portion of car accidents and getting injured or at least suffering some level of shock.

So, what are the best ways to protect your dog in case you’re in an accident? Here are eight things to keep in mind if you take your dog along with you in the car and you have an accident.

1.  Are you okay?

Check your own injuries and the injuries of other humans in your vehicle first before you start moving around looking for your dog.

You can’t help your bud if you’re causing more harm to yourself by becoming frantic while you’re hurt.

2. Restrain your dog.

Dogs are likely to run away from the accident scene.

After you find him or someone brings him to you, restrain him to keep him safe.

3. Make sure your dog is away from the road and check for injuries.

Check for lameness which may point to a spinal injury.

If your dog can walk, lead her to a safe spot away from the road.

If she can’t walk, it may ultimately be safer to pick her up risking further injury and take her from the roadway.

4. Call for emergency services.

If someone hasn’t already done so, call 9-1-1.

Then, call someone you know to carry your dog to a veterinarian.

If that’s not possible, explain to emergency services you have a dog. They may call a vet out too.

5. If you need treatment, take it.

Let first responders take care of you.

If that means leaving your dog while you are transported to the hospital, understand that emergency personnel are trained to keep pets safe, and even get them treatment if necessary, in such instances.

6. Take your dog to the veterinary clinic.

If you’re cleared to leave the accident site you should take your dog to a clinic to get checked.

You may have to get a ride somehow if your car is not in working order, but your pet should be seen by a vet.

7. Watch your dog closely for the next 24-hours.

Especially if you’ve opted not to get your dog checked out immediately.

Any unusual signs of lethargy or refusal to drink water or eat may indicate internal injuries.

8. File an insurance claim.

Since dogs are considered property, most insurance companies will cover at least some of the costs of your dog’s treatment.

Or, in the very unfortunate event your dog dies, insurance will reimburse you for their market value.

Yes, it seems a bit heartless, but why not get something back for your pain and suffering?

Getting into a car accident, especially with your dog, can be a stressful situation. But being prepared and knowing what to do in the unlikely event of it happening will see you through.

Above all, make sure you’re taken care of too. Then you can know you’ll be fully present for the care of your pet.
