Elon Musk is Recruiting for Tesla and Doesn’t Even Care If You Graduated From High School

Do you feel held back because you don’t think you have the right educational background? Well, here’s a bit of good news that might give you some hope about the future.

None other than Tesla CEO Elon Musk is hiring for his company and he said on Twitter…

Yeah, that’s right. He actually said,

“A PhD is definitely not required. [I] don’t care if you even graduated high school.”

Musk is talking about opportunities with Tesla’s artificial intelligence department. Musk said he’s looking for candidates with a “deep understanding” of artificial intelligence and that all applicants have to pass a “hardcore coding test.”

This isn’t the first time that Musk has talked about what he thinks about college degrees. In a 2014 interview, he said, “There’s no need even to have a college degree at all, or even high school.” You don’t hear that very often from CEOs out there, do you?

He added,

“If somebody graduated from a great university, that may be an indication that they will be capable of great things, but it’s not necessarily the case.

If you look at, say, people like Bill Gates or Larry Ellison, Steve Jobs, these guys didn’t graduate from college, but if you had a chance to hire them, of course that would be a good idea.”

Musk said that instead, he looks for “evidence of exceptional ability”, regardless of what kind of education a person might have. Musk said he would ideally like his new recruits to work either in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Austin, Texas, but they could also work at one of the three Tesla Gigfactories where the company makes it electric motors and battery packs. The factories are in Buffalo, New York, Sparks, Nevada, and Shanghai, China. A fourth factory is planned for Berlin, Germany.

Gary Sinise Received the Patriot Award for Supporting Veterans for Decades

Gary Sinise is a great actor, but he’s also a great person who has been giving back to help our veterans for the past 25 years.

Sinise made his name in Hollywood with roles in such films as Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, and The Green Mile, but it’s his amazing work with veterans that led to Sinise recently being presented with the Patriot Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California.

Sinise has made helping out veterans in various ways his life’s work and he started the Gary Sinise Foundation in 2010 to make a bigger impact.

The mission of the foundation is stated as follows:

“At the Gary Sinise Foundation, we serve our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need.

We do this by creating and supporting unique programs designed to entertain, educate, inspire, strengthen, and build communities.”

Check out this video of the impact his foundation has for the people it helps…

In an interview, Sinise said,

“I’ve found that service is the best way to heal. If every person in every neighborhood around the country took a little bit of responsibility for patting these folks on the back, all the problems that we hear about with regards to veterans not getting services or falling through the cracks would disappear.

If citizens would look at their freedom providers in a little bit different way.”

Sinise’s grandfather served in World War II, two of his uncles fought in World War II, and his father served in the Korean War.

It Was 65 Degrees in Antarctica Recently

In my opinion, there are few things scarier in our world right now than the drastic climate change we’re seeing and how it affects places as far flung as Antarctica. So the news that the continent recently experienced its hottest day EVER is causing me even more anxiety.

Yes, Argentina’s Esperanza Base, at the very northern tip of Antarctica, recorded a temperature of 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

The previous high temperature for Antarctica was 63.5 degrees in March 2015.

Alexandra Isern, head of Antarctic sciences at the National Science Foundation, said that the Antarctic Peninsula is “one of the fastest warming areas on the planet.”

Even more distressing, the recording in Antarctica came after the hottest January on record.

This is all part of a cycle that could have major repercussions for the planet. The warmer temperatures mean warmer seawater, which means more melting glaciers and rising sea levels all over the world: and that leads to even further warming.

Randall Cerveny of the World Meteorological Organization says,

“When I started this project all the way back in 2007, I thought we would have maybe an evaluation once every few years.

Now we’re having MULTIPLE observations of extreme climate every year.”

A scary sign, to be sure.

Davy Jones’ Locker, or the Curse of Davy Jones… you know about those right? For most, Pirates of the Caribbean is THE intro to the topic, and that’s why people on Tumblr are debating a certain scene from At World’s End far past the point of credulity.

Basically, the curse is such… Davy Jones had his heart removed and captains the Flying Dutchman, a ghost ship never able to make port because he can only return to dry land every ten years.

Well, in the scene in question, he’s standing on a sandbar in a bucket of seawater.

A Woman Asked If She’s Wrong for Wanting Her Infertile Sister to Host Her Baby Shower and People Had Some Thoughts

The subreddit Am I The A**hole has grown in popularity over the past several years, and is a home for every potential jerk out there wanting to know if they done a friend or family member wrong.

In this case, I give you a woman who started casually dating her sister’s ex-fiancee, proceeded to get knocked up, and wants her infertile sister to host the shower.

The sister, for some context, had to go on antidepressants after finding out she would likely never have children, and it’s unclear whether the news precipitated the breakup.

A Twitter User Tried to Prove There Are Only 10 Movie Poster Designs…There Are More

There’s discussion about the lack of originality in Hollywood right now. It’s just understood at this point that the vast majority of wide releases are going to be sequels, remakes, reboots, adaptations, or spin-offs.

But what most of us have failed to notice is that not only are the films themselves over-familiar, but the poster designs too.

Twitter user @leesteffen proposed that there are really only 10 types of movies according to their poster designs, and he brought receipts.

This Tumblr Thread Depicts Prehistoric Males as the Coolest of Dudes

No one knows for sure what prehistoric humans acted like – were they mostly like us, were there big differences, or (most likely) were they a little bit themselves and a little bit what they would one day become?

It’s fun to think about all of the possibilities, which is exactly what this really funny Tumblr thread did when they asked themselves…what if prehistoric dudes were just dudes?

It all began with a facial reconstruction done of a Homo sapien and a Neanderthal man who honestly, looks like he just needs a hug (and maybe a joint).

And then, someone got really into it, creating a whole world and society just based on one man’s potential face.

What sort of music would he like?

Would he appreciate your jokes?

We may never know for sure…

This man’s hair made an appearance because, well, it slaps. And so does that smirk of the guy below.

And then this child, who is objectively adorable, plus bonus Lucy and other species.

You cannot argue this is a face with a soul.

These images are actually beautiful, as is the fact that humans now can look at them and see ourselves in their eyes.

I’m honestly a little choked up about it and I’m not sure why.

Maybe I should look into that.

Vukovar was defended by around 1,800 lightly armed soldiers of the Croatian National Guard (ZNG) and civilian volunteers, against as many as 36,000 JNA soldiers and Serb paramilitaries equipped with heavy armour and artillery. During the battle, shells and rockets were fired into the town at a rate of up to 12,000 a day. At the time, it was the fiercest and most protracted battle seen in Europe since 1945, and Vukovar was the first major European town to be entirely destroyed since the Second World War. When Vukovar fell on 18 November 1991, several hundred soldiers and civilians were massacred by Serb forces and at least 20,000 inhabitants were expelled. Most of Vukovar was ethnically cleansed of its non-Serb population and became part of the self-declared Republic of Serbian Krajina. Several Serb military and political officials, including Milošević, were later indicted and in some cases jailed for war crimes committed during and after the battle. The battle exhausted the JNA and proved a turning point in the Croatian war. A ceasefire was declared a few weeks later. Vukovar remained in Serb hands until 1998, when it was peacefully reintegrated into Croatia with the signing of the Erdut Agreement. It has since been rebuilt but has less than half of its pre-war population and many buildings are still scarred by the battle. Almost all of Bangladesh's 200 plus tanneries are concentrated in Hazaribagh, a densely populated, odious neighbourhood on the banks of the Buriganga River. Residents of Hazaribagh's slums complain of illnesses such as fevers, skin diseases, respiratory problems and diarrhoea. They blame the tanneries for polluting the air, water, and soil and therefore causing their afflictions.The lives of the tannery industry's estimated 20,000 workers are harsh with many dying before they turn 50. Everyday these factories discharge thousands of litres of foul-smelling liquid waste into the river. However, with almost one billion USD a year in export sales, the leather industry is one of Bangladesh's most profitable sectors and there has been limited progress in cleaning it up. For 60 years of operations an unrecorded amount of chromium sulphate, lead, organohalogens, lime, hydrogen sulphide, sulphuric acid, formic acid, bleach, dyes and oils have been discharged into the river. We have known for a long time that the climate crisis is threatening our lives badly in every possible way and that it needs to be treated like the emergency it is. Now we need world leaders who believe in science and who should fight to protect our planet for future generations from the dangers of this climate crisis. Educating ourselves on this climate crisis is one of the most important steps in taking action. It’s not yet too late to educate ourselves on the facts of this global climate crisis. Associated Press photographer Eddie Adams was on the streets of Saigon on February 1, 1968, two days after the forces of the People’s Army of Vietnam and the Viet Cong set off the Tet offensive and swarmed into dozens of South Vietnamese cities. As Adams photographed the turmoil, he came upon Brigadier General Nguyen Ngoc Loan, chief of the national police, standing alongside ­Nguyen Van Lem, the captain of a terrorist squad who had just killed the family of one of Loan’s friends. Adams thought he was watching the interrogation of a bound prisoner. But as he looked through his viewfinder, Loan calmly raised his .38-caliber pistol and summarily fired a bullet through Lem’s head. After shooting the suspect, the general justified the suddenness of his actions by saying, “If you hesitate, if you didn’t do your duty, the men won’t follow you.” The Tet offensive raged into March. Yet while U.S. forces beat back the communists, press reports of the anarchy convinced Americans that the war was unwinnable. The freezing of the moment of Lem’s death symbolized for many the brutality over there, and the picture’s widespread publication helped galvanize growing sentiment in America about the futility of the fight. “Still photographs are the most powerful weapon in the world.” – Eddie Adams .
