To figure out how the sweet drink gets its uniform flavor, the team behind Eater’s Gut Check series took a good look at the Slurpee machine (first invented in 1959 by Dairy Queen franchisee Omar Knedlik) to explain how, exactly, the appliance ensures that each frozen treat is served at the same temperature, and contains identical levels of carbonation and sweetness.
