Six Fascinating Facts About Walmart

Walmart, a name synonymous with affordable retail and a staple of American consumerism, hides a trove of intriguing and sometimes peculiar stories behind its creation and operation.

1. Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart, embarked on his retail journey with a unique vision — to vend American-manufactured goods at the cost of foreign imports. This innovative strategy enabled Walton to provide an array of quality products at competitive prices, propelling Walmart to become a household name across the United States.

2. Walmart’s attempt to venture into the German market in the early 21st century didn’t quite end in a success story. Cultural misalignments, like the company’s insistence on enforced greetings and smiles from staff, along with some peculiar team-building activities, seemingly disconcerted the German populace. Consequently, Walmart couldn’t secure a foothold in Germany, leading to its withdrawal.

3. A rather unsettling fact is associated with Walmart’s employment practices from years past. The company came under scrutiny for taking out life insurance policies on its employees, benefiting from the payouts upon their demise. This controversial practice, grimly termed “Dead Peasant Insurance,” led to quite an uproar.

4. In the United States, Walmart’s reach is truly phenomenal. With 90% of the nation’s residents dwelling within a mere 10-mile radius of a Walmart outlet, its omnipresence is undeniable. However, this omnipresence doesn’t extend to New York City, where staunch opposition from local unions and politicians has kept the retail giant at bay.

5. Sam Walton, during the 1950s, would perform an aerial survey of his stores using a helicopter. This unusual method allowed him to count the parked cars and evaluate the performance of his stores.

6. In 2004, a landmark event occurred in Jonquière, Quebec, where Walmart employees took the initiative to unionize their local store. However, their success was short-lived. A mere five months later, Walmart pulled down the shutters on this outlet. The official statement cited dissatisfaction with the “business plan” put forth by the store, an event that sparked much speculation and debate.

Man Steals Electric Shopping Cart from Walmart and Drives It from Bar to Bar

Many of us have done some pretty stupid things when we’ve had too much to drink, but, if we’re lucky, we don’t get caught – and it definitely doesn’t become national news.

That’s not what happened to this guy.

Also, side note: if Bill Murray can drive around the streets of Stockholm in a golf cart, why can’t this guy have a little fun?

For the record, we don’t condone drinking and driving any kind of vehicle…but this is still kind of a hilarious story.

A man in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, stole an electric shopping cart from a Walmart and proceeded to drive it from bar to bar. The man, Brice Kendell Williams, 32, said he did it because he didn’t want to get a DUI, though he still ended up being charged with a felony for “Unauthorized use of a moveable.”

Someone at a bar in Houma, Louisiana, reported to police that a man had arrived there on a motorized shopping cart after midnight. Police arrived at the bar and found the cart parked between cars in the parking lot. After he was arrested, Kendell told police that he had been at another bar earlier when he decided to steal the cart so he (hopefully) wouldn’t get a DUI.

Captian America

I mean, why would a motorized cart from Walmart draw any attention if someone drove it up and parked it at a bar, right?

Kendell’s bond was set at $2,500.

This Little Girl Wasn’t Impressed by the Birthday Cake That Called Her a “Loser”

To be fair, it takes quite a bit to impress a toddler, so “unimpressed” is kind of their default. That said, you might have a shot with the right, well-executed cake on their birthday.

Which was pretty much the opposite of what mom Melin Jones ended up with when trying to get a cute cake for her daughter Liz’s 2nd birthday party.

Here’s the full text:

Some of my family & friends know about the cake mess up we had with Liz’s 2nd birthday cake but I recently posted it in a Facebook group I’m in (Sad Sales, Stolen Goods, and Sketchy Services )and had a lot of people ask me to post it to my public profile so they could share  it – so here’s the story !

September 7th, sometime in the afternoon I had went to Wal-Mart in Desloge to get things for Liz’s birthday party, which we were having that next day.

We hadn’t ordered a cake or anything days a head like one should /would normally so I swung by the bakery and picked out one that was already made, and asked the lady behind the counter if she would write “Happy Birthday Lizard.”

Lizard is our nickname for Liz. She said yes and within a few minutes she handed it back.

She didn’t ask me how it looked and I didn’t check .

Remember, I’m in a hurry here as it’s the day before her birthday party and I’m just now picking the cake out and getting everything else.

Little did I know life lessons were about to be had! We get home, I’m unloading the car and quickly glance down at the cake and noticed that the worker wrote Loser , not Lizard . At first I was a little shocked and speechless but quickly started dying laughing.

I hurried and carried the cake and Liz into the house, put the cake down on the table and put Liz in the chair to send a picture to my husband of the cake .

Liz wasn’t told to look at the cake, she can’t read so she didn’t know what the cake said, we didn’t tell her what it said and she doesn’t even know what a loser is. She just happen to be looking at the cake when I took the photo.

My husband and I laughed about it together when he got home, enjoyed every bit of the loser cake (eat up , mom of the year ! you deserve it !) and later that evening I made another trip to Wal-Mart for another cake for her party.

I never brought it to the bakery’s attention because had I took the time to just look at the cake when she handed it to me I would have never walked out the door with it and also , I didn’t want her to get into any type of trouble or be mocked by her coworkers for writing loser on a child’s birthday cake .

It was a simple misunderstanding and I didn’t want her to get any backlash from it .

This is a funny story , it’s ok to laugh . Lizard got a new cake, the idiot that couldn’t be bothered to take a few mins to stop and check it also got a cake.

I promise you my now almost 3 year old didn’t have a clue what happen. She’ll go on to live a somewhat normal life….. as long as someone else starts picking out her birthday cakes.

The good news is that Liz can’t read, so even though she looks un-enthused, she “wouldn’t know what a loser is,” her mom told the Mirror back in 2018.

Editing this with a little more information because some of the news stations have really butchered it & have false…

She also said that while the cake might have called their daughter a loser, the family was the winner.

Because the cake was delicious!

“I ate every bit of that loser cake,” Melin told People magazine.

Proof that happy endings do exist, my friends!

Stores Are Taking Measures to Protect Their Ice Cream from All the Lickers out There

I like to guard my ice cream like it’s made of gold, but that’s just at home. I didn’t realize until recently that my ice cream was in danger at the store, too.

Behold, the licker:

This person licks the ice cream and puts it back in the freezer!

I don’t even have words.

Who thinks this is okay?

Apparently, a lot of the internet. This video has spawned several copycats, who are all licking ice cream and putting it back. Or eating it with their hands.

This has led to stores taking some extreme measures to protect their freezers. For example, there’s this store in Nashville:

And this store, where ice cream is being stored like alcohol:

And this Texas Walmart, where an employee is guarding the case with a toy gun:

Honestly, folks, this is why we can’t have nice things. Please give internet challenges like this a pass. People are going to jail. It’s gross. Just…no.

Walmart Banned This Heroic Woman After She Was Caught in the Parking Lot Drinking Wine from a Pringles Can

Times are tough out there, and the success of Marvel movies is clearly a sign that we as a people are desperate for heroes in our lives. It’s important to remember that heroes come in all shapes, sizes, and, apparently, degrees of sobriety.

This week, a new hero emerged, and the world was quick to embrace the Texas woman for exactly who she is – a woman who rides motorized carts around a Walmart parking lot while guzzling wine out of a Pringles can.

No word on what kind of wine or what kind of Pringles, which only proves that people reporting the “real” news don’t understand what we all need to know.

The woman had been galavanting about since 6:30 in the morning and was still at it when the police arrived at 9.

All joking aside, if her mental state is precarious or worse, I hope that she gets the help that she needs. If she was merely capping off a great night with friends, then more power to her.

The Walmart permanently banned her from their store (which is pretty much a blessing in disguise, if you ask me), and most people online seem to see nothing but a woman interrupted while living her best life.

This is America, after all, and she wasn’t hurting anyone or herself.

The responses are almost as funny as the story’s headline, with most people choosing to see her as a great symbol of someone with no f*cks to be given.

We can all agree that the woman should get help if she needs it, but otherwise, I agree with the masses and say more power to her.

Carry on, good lady.

Two Walmart employees fell…

Two Walmart employees fell in love and got married in the same store where they worked in. “We didn’t know where we wanted to get married, and we didn’t have a lot of money to do anything big. Everybody we know works at Walmart …all our friends are here.” 00
