If you have something timeless – a joke, an observation, or a question that gets huge engagement – it can sometimes come back around.
Which is exactly what happened with this tweet from 2016, which asked people to weigh in on things that are classy if you’re rich, but considered trashy if you’re not.
What’s considered trashy if you're poor, but classy if you're rich?

These 14 people really drove home the point that our society is built on double standards, classism, and hypocrisy.
14. Not everyone has to pay taxes.
Let’s not even get into that discussion.
Evade taxes
Poor people if they evade taxes: “THEY ARE EGOISTS, HOW THE GOVERMENT WILL PAY THE POLICE OR BUILD ROADS IF THEY DOESNT PAY THE TAXES?
Rich people if they evade taxes: “Oh, its ok, its their money and they can do anything they wanted with it”

13. An important one-word distinction.
It changes so much, doesn’t it?
Society: Rich kids have problems, poor kids are problems.

12. This is impossible to deny.
And yet, some people still want to try.
Protesting in any way, shape or form – for rich people it’s being woke and standing up for your rights, for poor people it’s considered rioting…

11. The morality police turn a blind eye.
They’re probably blind to the sins of their own.
Having children by multiple partners.
Having large families.
Repeatedly divorcing.
Having a sex worker as a companion.
Avoiding the payment of taxes (“It means I’m smart.”)
Scamming others.
Leaning on the support of religious organizations.
Avoiding jail/prison.

10. Also no, it doesn’t matter how your family earned the money.
Or whether it technically belongs to other people.
Living off money you did not directly earn.

9. I never thought about this, but yeah.
You’re a hipster if you’re doing it by choice.
Walking/riding your bike instead of driving to work/run errands
Poor: Can’t even afford to buy your own car
Rich: It’s nice to be so close to work and amenities in my community. Plus I get in some exercise, enjoy nature, and allow myself time to think!

8. I never thought about this.
Maybe homeless people should start asking for “startup capital” instead.
Asking others for money.
If you’re poor it’s “panhandling”; if you’re rich it’s “fundraising” or “financing your startup”.

7. This made me laugh but it is totally true.
Through most of history.
marrying your cousin
— Eoin Keane (@EoinKeane101) July 22, 2020
6. And if you have 19 kids they give you a television show.
Idk if they were rich before but they are now.
Having 7 plus kids (and one dog or more).
Having lots of sexual partners.
Not sending kids to public state school.
Not doing housecleaning.
Speaking Spanish fluently.
Not working.

5. Though why you would choose to live in a small home is beyond me.
To each his own, I suppose. As long as it’s a choice.
Living in a “mobile” home. Rich: tiny home, minimalist life style. Poor: trailer park, double wide, mobile home, etc.

4. A picture is worth a thousand words.
Do you distress your own clothes or buy them that way?
— Radhouane Aloui (@radhou_al) July 22, 2020
3. When you shop at a thrift store “for fun.”
And take all of the best finds from people who need them.
Wearing pre-owned clothes. Also, saying you’re poor. In my PhD program there was a rich British girl who had a superb scholarship. She always moaned how poor she was. The rest of us hunkered down and worked minimum wage jobs to survive. She dropped out after 2 years, though.

2. Honestly any one of these things.
The day drinking, for sure.
barefoot, day drinking (pitcher of bloody marys just off camera), swingin’ your large guns around + yelling at people pic.twitter.com/HoNEi5gXvR

1. I never thought about it, but yeah.
Pretty much everything, I guess.
Talking about how stressed/overextended you are. Complaining about prices. Showing indignation when you feel you’re being ripped off. Uttering the phrase “I’m barely keeping it together.” Drug use.
— Neal Kane (@nealkane) July 23, 2020
These really kind of make me angry, but I’m glad there are people at least identifying the issues.
