Great Celebrity TikToks You Might Have Missed

As a wise poet said one time, “Tick-tock / on the clock / But the party don’t stop, no / Oh, whoa, whoa-oh / Oh, whoa, whoa-oh.”

Though these words were writ 7 entire years before the social video platform was launched, we can only assume Kesha was making a prediction that one day, we would have a thing called TikTok, and upon that app, the party would indeed never stop. And she was right. Praise be.

If you haven’t had time to keep up with all the goings on, here are 15 of the coolest recent TikToks from celebrities that you might have missed.

Gen Z-ers Are Making Fun of Millennials on TikTok

It just seems to be a fact of life: There will always be feuds between different generations.

Typically, those fights are between older generations, who look down upon or criticize younger generations (see also: Baby Boomers and literally every other younger generation).

But now, Gen Z-ers are getting in on the action and throwing some major shade at Millennials. And of course they’re doing it on TikTok, the most Gen Z platform ever made.

According to researchers, Millennials are people who were born between the years 1981 and 1996. Gen Z, on the other hand, are people born between 1997 and 2012. They grew up in very, very different times, especially as it relates to technology.

It all started with this video from user @wholesam:

@wholesam

Stop bullying millennials! They’re pretty cool

♬ original sound – undergroundish

He made fun of Millennials for using the word “adulting” and for taking coffee breaks. Other people quickly piled on, however.

They took serious issue with Millennial’s love of “Harry Potter:”

@mayalepa

inspired by @wholesam

♬ original sound – mayalepa

They also apparently think Millennials use the word “doggo” too much:

@kavyewest

finally able to jump on the #millennial hate trend 😍 so happy to be here #fyp @wholesam

♬ Miley acting up – illumitatiana

However, at least one person pointed out that Gen Z threw a hissy fit when Millennials started using TikTok — so I guess this feud goes both ways after all!

♬ Majesty – Instrumental Mix – Apashe

Dang, what else will Gen Z-ers take issue with next? Avocado toast? Student loan debt? Living with your parents? Lack of work ethic? Now they’re starting to sound just like the Boomers. You can hardly tell them apart!

Do you agree with the Gen Z assessment of Millennials? Will we ever live to see a time when generations don’t fight with each other?

We’d love to hear your opinions!

Pancake Cereal is The Latest Viral TikTok Recipe You Might Want to Make

You know about pancakes, one of the most utterly delicious breakfast and brunch foods around. And you’ve heard of cereal, which is similarly tasty and doesn’t require any prep work.

Prepare to have your mind blown. Combine pancakes and cereal to make something totally new and different: Pancake cereal.

TikTokers have been making lots of pancake cereal lately. And it sure seems easy to make.

All you need is some pancake batter, a hot pan and a plastic bag. You’ll fill the plastic bag with the batter, then snip a tiny hole in one corner (so you can use it like a baker’s piping bag).

Simply pipe little blobs of pancake on your pan, cook and voila. You’re all set!

Just pout these miniature pancakes into a bowl, top with butter and syrup and eat with a spoon.

Here’s how it works.

Some TikTokers are skipping the plastic bag and using a squeeze bottle instead, which makes it easier to control your batter. But if you don’t happen to have an empty squeeze bottle laying around, a plastic baggie will work just fine.

Would you ever try making pancake cereal at home? What do you think of this idea?

Anthony Hopkins Did the TikTok ‘Tootsie Slide’ Challenge at 82 Years Young

The brains behind TikTok must be loving its new quarantined audience. TikTok users have exploded in number in recent months, probably due to limited access to live entertainment and socializing.

Whatever the reason, we’re loving the video platform and all the cooking demos, tricks, hacks and, especially, the dance challenges. On TikTok, nothing is too mundane that it can’t be turned into a challenge. We’re competitive even when ordered to wear masks!

Here are a BUNCH of those TikTokers doing the Tootsie Slide… on YouTube. Because that’s how things are these days.

And, as the title of this post clearly states… we had an unexpected celebrity take on one of these crazy challenges.

The latest famous person to make a splash in the TikTok dance challenge pool was Anthony Hopkins who recently uploaded a video where he tried his hand–and footwork–at the viral Tootsie Slide dance challenge. The 82 year-old star of Westworld showed us all the groovy ways he can still move in his adorable clip.

He also challenges fellow veteran actors, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone to upload their own dance videos by quoting their lines from Terminator and Rocky.

Yes! We need to see Arnold and Sly take this on. It’s to save the world, you guys. Come on! Do it!

People Love This Big Friendly Baby Boi

I don’t know what to think about the internet anymore. I don’t know what to do with this information. I don’t know how to process the fact that people all over social media are losing their minds over a big baby. And I don’t mean, like, someone who cries a lot and is immature. I mean literally just…a really big baby.

The kid in question – apparently named Gavin – was brought to the internet’s attention by a TikTok account operated by his parents. Here’s the spark that started the fire:

@kat.027

#gav #boom #babypowder

♬ Woah – KRYPTO9095

That’s pretty much all it took for folks to start being ridiculous.

Look, we all know that people reach for hyperbole on the internet as a means of semi-ironic humor, but this time around we’re talking about a BABY. And a lot of the comments are so mean and gross that I don’t even want to dignify them with a share on this page.

Others, however, welcome our big boi overlord.

Pretty much any time Gavin pops up anywhere, the jokes start rolling out in an endless cascade.

This above-average toddler is, apparently, the very most shocking thing anyone has ever seen, ever, in their whole lives, ever.

A lot of the riffing wanders away from the mean and into some more clever meme-mixing territory, though.

Imagine what this kid is going to think when, years later, he stumbles upon the origin story he was living without even realizing it.

And what about the parents in all this? Well, they’re continuing post new TikToks of Gavin, a lot of which are pretty clever and endearing. And every time, the riffs start rolling in (pro tip: if you’ve got a big baby joke to make, scroll up and make sure it hasn’t already been said 400 times.) The account currently has over 150 thousand followers and nearly 3 million likes.

@kat.027

#gav #donttouchmytruck #chevy

♬ My Truck – Breland

Despite all the insanity surrounding the internet’s reaction to their kiddo, Gavin’s parents seem to be managing it alright. They’re continuing to post, they disable comments when they get out of hand, and they’re even memeing like champs.

@kat.027

#Gav #king #dotheroar #bigbaby

♬ original sound – kat.027

Some commentators have taken it upon themselves to declare that Gavin must not be healthy to be the size he is at the age he is. And while I’m sure everyone offering those criticisms is definitely a medical professional and not just speculating, their parents have insisted that he is just fine.

They respond pretty regularly to the positive comments. At the end of the day, there are a lot of people just enjoying Gavin’s cheerful presence on the internet. He does seem to have a pretty irrepressible joy to him.

And look, if you can’t say anything nice, at least say something funny and original.

Personally, I’m on team Gavin.

You can follow Gavin on Instagram here. Highly recommend the one where he’s splashing around in a puddle. Very heartwarming. Much cute.

What’s something you’ve seen on the internet lately that made you stop in your tracks?

Tell us about it in the comments.

Cyber Security Experts Say Social Media Platform TikTok Isn’t Safe for Kids

Parents everywhere should be careful about letting their kids join social media platforms. You should talk to them ahead of time about the potential dangers, and also let them know that you’ll have access to their passwords and accounts and will be free to check their activity at any time.

Savvy parents are already doing these things, but every time a new app gets popular, they face a new learning curve. And while TikTok is super fun, very popular, and used by kids around the world, it probably comes as no surprise that people who are looking to prey on those kids are on it, too.

View this post on Instagram

A former basketball coach in Iowa was found to have sexually exploited and abused 400 boys. 400 innocent lives. Many of these children were led to believe they were chatting online with a teen girl sending nude images of themselves. Some were basketball players he coached. If you follow us on FB or Twitter, you can find the link to the news report. With the mission of protecting children we do not promote social media as harmless fun for children. Nearly every app and game has chat functions that enable strangers to talk to children – even with privacy filters, there is no way to 100% block communication from people unknown to a child. To suggest that children are capable of managing their own safety is naive at best. Predators continue to flourish on the internet because it takes a lot of time, often months, and some luck to catch them. For every perpetrator convicted there are countless that are harming children -even as you read this. Please, think long and hard before putting your child into the world of social media. Consider the many risks and few benefits that come from access to so many negative and unproductive influences. Talk to youth leaders about prevention training and policies to reduce risk and empower children to know they have a right to be safe. Make sure anyone you trust with your children knows you promote body safety. Awareness can deter abusers, be that voice. #rockthetalk #mamabeareffect #childsexualabuse #childexploitation #yso #youthsports #socialmediamom #preventionispossible #parenting #parentingblogger #parentingtips #socialmediasafety

TikTok was developed in China and, since its launch in 2017, has been downloaded more than 80 million times – handily surpassing Snapchat in popularity. The platform allows 3 to 60 second videos and encourages interaction in multiple ways. The app allows users as young as 13 to sign up without parental consent.

Australian cybersecurity expert Susan McLean is adding her voice to the chorus yelling that the space is not even close to safe for kids, due to the access it gives people looking to groom and bully them.

“Any app that allows communication can be used by predators. TikTok does not have the same safety sessions as some of the more well-known apps and routinely do not remove accounts that have been flagged as potentially a predatory. …The data gathering is a huge concern and if the government is worried then it is not a place for kids.”

Thank you so much Jenny Gatlin Breazeale for hosting a parents conference on Social Media-Balancing Safety & Reality at Elberta Elementary this evening. Parents were served soup, an awesome cookie bar for dessert….and there was child care for the young kids! We had a wonderful group of engaged parents and teachers. We laughed a lot, (back row I’m looking at you😄), we cried some, and we learned so much from one another. This is my third year being invited back to speak with this community and I am SO THANKFUL for teachers, parents and administrators like Jenny that recognize the importance of education….and empowerment…when it comes to protecting our children online. As parents, as adults…WE get to lead this charge. WE can protect our children. Knowledge is power.

A post shared by Kristi Bush (@fliptheswitch_protectourkids) on

Setting your kids’ accounts to private will keep them from being contacted directly through the app, but TikTok admits that “even with a private account, profile information – including profile photo, username, and bio – will be visible to all users.”

Reports from the United Kingdom claim that kids as young as 8 were getting bullied, groomed, and spammed with explicit messages.

A representative reminded parents that the app ages are 13+.

“TikTok is an app for users age 13 and over, and we’ve give the app a 12+ App Store rating so parents can simply block it from their child’s phone using device-based controls.”

Kids are vulnerable to predators on all social media apps – really anywhere online – so talking to yours about how to respond and what to do if and when something happens to them is vitally important. You and your kids should be aware of the dangers, no matter how tough the conversation, because you’ll need to partner up to keep your little loves – and hopefully others – safe online.

For now, definitely don’t let your under-13’s talk you into TikTok, and when they do age into the app, be sure you’re checking up on their activity regularly.

It’s a brave new world, parents, but we can do this together!

A Teen Got into a Car Accident, Posted a TikTok to “Cope” with the Shock

A lot of us have been in minor car accidents or we at least know someone who has. And it’s not uncommon that a brush with mortality would cause someone to go into a shock for a while – stuff like that is really scary.

16-year-old Katie Cornetti recently found out just how terrifying a car accident can be. And in order to get over her shock, she decided to post a TikTok that went viral soon after.

Cornetti posted a few more videos on the microfilm social media site in the days to come. Luckily, she and her friends didn’t have any life-threatening injuries. The teen told Buzzfeed,

“We saw [the window] shatter and we look at each other, and were like, ‘Are you OK? Are you OK?’ Once we figured out we were all OK, we started laughing. We’re best friends and this is how we coped together.”

The 16-year-old was in the car with two of her friends when the crash occurred. Cornetti’s friend Marissa was driving that day and the car suddenly rolled while they were on a winding road. The culprit was a tire that wasn’t properly secured to the vehicle.

Thankfully everyone was wearing their seat belts and they were fine. Then, Cornetti decided to create a TikTok, which, to her surprise, went super viral.

Some people thought it was funny:

But not everyone on social media was amused.

But Cornetti seems to be coping with her virality just fine:

“The comments are not really bothering me ’cause who does make a TikTok after a car crash?” she asked. “We are perfectly fine, we got really lucky.”

It’s hard to judge what people do after such a stressful event, and the good news is that everyone turned out to be okay.

What do you think of Cornetti and her friends’ TikTok?

A High School Student Used TikTok to Organize a Student Strike to Support Her Teachers

None of us are surprised that teachers in many school districts are not paid their worth.

I mean, how do you put a price on the people responsible for teaching the next generation? I guess some districts view it as a low priority.

This debate over teachers salaries and benefits hits home, as I have many family and friends in the education field. Many times, budgets are cut, and teachers end up pulling out their own wallets to pay for supplies and books for their classrooms. No questions asked. Because their students need a quality education, regardless of what budgets say.

And a lot of students don’t see that.

That is until 16-year-old, Gillian Sullivan’s TikTok video hit social media.

TikTok was once as a lip-syncing app, but it has changed its features to include short, funny videos, much like the late Vine.

Sullivan took to the platform and voiced her concerns for the teachers of Clark County School District in Nevada. The teachers are planning to strike on September 10th in order to protest denied raises that had been promised by the school district. Sullivan’s video was used to gather students to strike along with them in a show of solidarity set for September 5th.

“Our district is refusing to give teachers — who spent the past three years earning enough credits out of their own pockets, spending extra hours outside of school to earn credits to get a raise. And our school district won’t give it to them. Like, literally, they won’t pay the teachers what the teachers earned,” Gillian says in the video.

Negotiations for salary increases have been going on for three years according to KSNV:

“…the union says teachers are owed for professional development. The union says 2,500 teachers are owed $5,400 under an agreement with CCSD three years ago.”

Sullivan told BuzzFeed News that this is personal. Her mother has been employed by the district for 20 years.

“I can’t even imagine how frustrating it must be to work at a job and be promised a raise contractually and then not be guaranteed that.”

With that passion, she took to her TikTok account.

“That night, I posted on TikTok, my Instagram story, and my Snapchat story, and I posted the TikTok I made on Twitter as well,” she said. “I just figured I might as well use social media because I know all my friends are on it, and it’s a good way to get stuff out there.”

The result? A viral video receiving 35,000 likes. No surprise, as CCSD is the fifth-largest school district in the nation, educating 315,000 students.

The aftermath of this sensation has been positive for Sullivan.

“A lot of people in my classes have been talking about it. Today one of my teachers brought it up, like, ‘Hey, who’s not gonna be here the fifth?’ and like 10 kids raised their hand in that class alone. A lot of teachers have said they’re proud of me and really appreciate that I’m getting students involved.”

Here’s to hoping her voice continues to make an impact for teacher at CCSD and other districts.

“This raise issue isn’t just about money — it’s driving teachers’ passion out,” she said. “When teachers aren’t passionate, it really affects the students. When teachers don’t care about they’re teaching, students don’t care about what they’re learning. And we’re not that important currently, but we’re the future of the nation and the school district.”

A Teenager Made a Tiktok Video of Her Cat and It Went Mega-Viral

Once in a while, videos that go viral in huge ways just can’t be explained. Chalk it up to the right place, the right time, the perfect content. Even if it seems incredibly silly, sometimes it just works.

And that perfectly sums up the funny video that 17-year-old Jade Taylor-Ryan created of her cat, Ed (named after Ed Sheeran).

Taylor-Ryan set her 12-second video to the 1954 song “Mr. Sandman” by The Chordettes and it features Ed the cat clapping his paws, looking into the camera, and doing a little dance to the tune. She said she was inspired after seeing another person use the nine-camera filter on TikTok.

Taylor-Ryan said…

“I put my phone on the floor and set a timer on it so I didn’t have to use my hands to film. I then timed when my cat would pop up in the frame based on the beat of the music.”

As of this writing, the video has 1.8 million likes on TikTok, and the hype bled over onto Twitter as well.

Because IT IS PERFECT!

After the success of Taylor-Ryan’s video, other folks were inspired to make their own similar clips with their own feline friends.

Almost there…

Not quite…

The lesson here: if you get a little bit of inspiration, even if it seems pretty silly, just GO WITH IT. You never know when you (and your pet) might become a viral sensation.
