One in Eight Men Think They’d Be Able to Score a Point Against Serena Williams

Are these guys nuts?

Serena Williams is a GD legend.

She’s won 23 Grand Slam championships. She’s a voice for equality in sports. She runs an amazing clothing line. She’s a fashion icon. Even after taking a year off, she’s still ranked among the best in the world.

She’s been a professional player since 1995. That’s 24 years!

Which is why the results of a recent poll are a bit…puzzling, to say the least.

According to a YouGov poll of 1732 adults in Great Britain, 12 percent of men thought they could score a point in a game of tennis against Serena Williams.

Either Great Britain has more professional tennis plays among its male population than I realized, or men seriously overestimate their abilities.

I think it’s the latter.

Naturally, Twitter had a field day with the results of this poll. This man, at least, seems to have an accurate assessment of how a match with Williams would actually go:

Here’s another accurate explanation of the results:

This one also sums things up nicely, plus it it doesn’t forget the many men who chimed in on this thread to “defend” their ability to actually score a point against Williams:

A few people chimed in with how this is a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect, a type of cognitive bias.

Ever notice how some people seem to overestimate their intelligence and abilities without any awareness that they’re doing this? That’s the Dunning-Kruger effect.

Seriously, if you think you could score a point against Williams, maybe take a step back and assess your tennis skills.

Sigh.

Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski Expertly Trolled Each Other During the Stanley Cup Finals

The St. Louis Blues recently won the Stanley Cup for the first time in their history. But what happened leading up to the game was better than hockey, itself. Well, at least for some people.

Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski battled it out on social media leading up to the final game. We know them as one of the cutest, loving couples on NBC’s The Office. Fisher, who played Pam Beesly was the office assistant. And Krasinski played the calm and collected, Jim Halpert.

They had a rocky start in the show but I’ll get that. On with the trolling!  Krasinski is a die-hard Bruins fans. He’s a Boston hometown boy that grew up loving his team. And Fischer, who resides in St. Louis, fell hard for her Blues.

After The Office ended these two remained great off-screen friends and this act of playfulness shows it all. Besides, trolling and teasing each other is what good friends do.

It all started with Fischer tossing out this tweet to start the friendly rivalry.

Before I get too far, there is a great connection between hockey and The Office. Fans of the show may remember that before Jim Halpert and Pam Beesley said “I DO!” on the show, Pam was engaged to Roy.

In the episode, “The Client”, the group is discussing their worst first dates and Pam is sure she has this. She tells the story of how her date took her to a hockey game with his brother. She had gone to use the bathroom and the game ended. Then her date and his brother left her behind. We come to find out later, her date was Roy. Yep, worst date ever!

Back to the story!

When Fisher didn’t get a response from Krasinski, she photoshopped them wearing competitor jerseys.

That got his attention!

Steve Carell even joined in on the fun and wore Krasinski’s favorite team logo hat.

But it all boiled down to this hilarious video of Krasinski from Game 7.

Did you see who that was sitting next to Krasinski?

That was David Denman, the actor who played the fiance Roy on The Office! Well played.

Of course, Fischer clapped back referencing the show.

In the end, the Blues took the cup and Carell bowed down to the win.

And Krasinski did as well.

All in all, the group had a fun time razzing each other. And us fans got to swoon over a reconnection of “Jim and Pam”.

Win win!

2000 Olympics gold medal winner…

2000 Olympics gold medal winner, swimmer Antony Ervin decided to retire at 22. It didn’t go so well, as he begun abusing drugs. However, in 2011 he got back into swimming, and at the 2016 Olympics became the oldest swimmer to win a gold medal.

Some marathon runners elect…

Some marathon runners elect to have their toenails permanently removed. Their level of running causes friction on the toes and results in toenails routinely becoming damaged and detached. To circumvent chronic nail wounds, some people just get rid of them entirely.

So… Drinking Breast Milk is The Latest Trend in Bodybuilding

There’s no easy way to say this, so I’ll just spit it out: Moms are selling their extra breast milk to bodybuilders, who swear it helps their performance.

The idea is that breast milk is all-natural, unlike many powdered supplements and vitamins. It’s designed to help babies grow, so it’s packed full of calories and nutrients — aka exactly what bodybuilders are looking for.

Who knew bodybuilders and infants had so much in common?!

Many bodybuilders swear by the practice, and it does make some sense…in theory.

“I think the idea behind drinking breast milk for muscle growth is that it’s incredibly calorie and nutrient dense, and it has some additional healthy substances,” sports dietitian Brian St. Pierre told Men’s Health.

“Breast milk is designed to rapidly grow a human baby, so maybe people think a similar effect will happen to fully grown humans?”

If you’re a new mom with dollar signs in your eyes right now, hold your horses. There is no evidence that breast milk provides the same benefits for adults that it does for babies.

Also, it’s not the smartest idea from a consumer’s perspective. It’s no simple matter to safely obtain enough high-quality breast milk for a grown man! There’s not really any way to verify where it came from, whether it’s free of disease, and whether it came from a human with a healthy diet. Plus it can be very expensive.

Also, there are like a million other cheaper, safer, calorie-rich drink alternatives.

“This stuff probably just isn’t special, and it’s not worth the hassle, risk, or money,” Brian said.

People Continue to NOT Recognize Tony Hawk, and It’s Hilarious

Tony Hawk just can’t catch a break, can he? Who knows why, but Hawk just can’t get anyone to believe he’s really the man he says he is. We’ve previously documented how often the world-famous skateboarder doesn’t get recognized, and we’ve got a new example – it happened when Hawk was trying to rent a car.

Sorry Mr. Hawk, but it happened again. But since he’s such a nice guy, he didn’t call out the person or the rental car company by name.

Just like the many times when he wasn’t recognized in public, people loved this story about Hawk’s misfortunes.

And someone made this great collage on Hawk’s famous video game cover.

Classic! All I can say is that I would recognize you, Mr. Hawk!

At least I think I would…

This Mom is Changing the Game by Shooting Portraits of Girls in Sparkly Dresses and Sports Gear

From a young age, girls are sent the message that they have to either be girly-girls or tomboys. There’s no in between and there’s no overlapping.

Well, not anymore.

Heather Mitchell runs HMP Couture Imagery in Alabama, and she shoots portraits of young girls who want to do what they want to do. Her series is called “Because you can do it all”, and it has gone viral in a big way.

Mitchell said, “My youngest daughter is 8 and she is trying softball this year for the first time. We were at practice a few weeks ago and I was talking with the other moms. I was saying that I hoped Paislee learned to love the game because she was athletic. One of the moms told me that she was not athletic, that she was a girly-girl.”

She added, “I couldn’t sleep that night. All I could think was, ‘Why does she have to choose?’ I played every sport my school offered and wore lipstick to every game. So the next day we went to the studio and created her shot.”

After posting shots of her daughter Paislee on Facebook, the requests from other moms came flooding in.

Take a look at these young ladies.

Mitchell added a final comment. “My parent taught me that I could be anything I wanted growing up. I didn’t realize till I was much older that everyone is not that blessed.”

Great stuff! Remember girls – you can do it all!

Woman Offers Lesson on How Ladies Should Behave When Their Man Is Watching the Game. It’s as Bad as It Sounds.

Conservative commentator Denise McAllister is no stranger to controversy, as evidenced by her recent feud with Meghan McCain. That’s a story for another day, though. Today, we’re here to examine something else she said recently that ended up giving her the wrong kind of viral fame.

McAllister took to Twitter to remind her fellow women how they should behave while their man is watching a big sporting event on TV. Prepare to roll your eyes in a MAJOR way.

Patience and timing, ladies…

Wow. Even as a man I think this is totally ridiculous, and I’m not alone.

Check out some of the reactions the tweet managed to get.

Apparently, McAllister later got into some hot water and was fired from her writing job at The Federalist for making homophobic comments as a result of the Twitter exchange above.

A maximum-security prison…

A maximum-security prison in Uganda has a soccer league (run and played by prisoners), with an annual soccer tournament. The tournament is taken very seriously; they have a uniforms, referees, cleats, and a 30-page constitution. The winning team gets prizes such as soap, sugar, and a goat.
