Here’s Why All of Twitter is Tossing Their Vans in the Air
One of the fun things about the internet is that it allows a lot of people to come together and revel in their shared insanity. You can put up a crazy theory about literally anything and you’ll probably find scores of other strangers who want to play along.
Well, that’s exactly what happened with all this Vans business. It all started when @lanacutherlip posted this little gem:
Did you know it doesn’t matter how you throw your vans they will land facing up pic.twitter.com/nKVJCncW4H
— lana m!sses tøp (@lanacutherlip) March 2, 2019
Of course, everyone else needed to get it on the action:
I learned today that no matter how you throw your vans they always land right side up… pic.twitter.com/1um0UXpbxW
— Bryce (@BryceMckenney1) March 3, 2019
And a new meme was born.
if you throw your vans they will always land correctly. @VANS_66 #vanschallenge pic.twitter.com/4D26roC8rJ

Naturally, parents just didn’t understand.
I had to explain to my mom why I was throwing all my Van’s on the floor at 12AM. #Vanschallenge pic.twitter.com/USwUJkpyPX

But neither did anyone else.
#VansChallenge what kind of wizardry is this pic.twitter.com/y9X2uE4GOe
— Vanencia (@vannyydevito) March 4, 2019
Some people even took the challenge to new heights…
This is definitely why I went to journalism school! #amnewsers #vans #VansChallenge ( @cenzo86) pic.twitter.com/aCMMDvWVEV

While others thought they had it figured out…
Your Vans sneakers will always land right side up after you throw them, and @Ibelievthehype has the proof. https://t.co/8DQS5tfDtj
— Twitter Moments (@TwitterMoments) March 4, 2019
And of course, everyone else tried to debunk the theory (yes! science!)
I must have the old update…. #VansChallenge #Debunked pic.twitter.com/Xb0PISUnyG
— Josh Kennedy-Noce (@Joshkn) March 4, 2019
It just didn’t work every time
Debunked. #VansChallenge pic.twitter.com/1yHF24S0zX

?? Didn’t work for classic, high top, or off brand vans? How y’all doing this tf #VansChallenge #vans pic.twitter.com/95KXbU206Z
— Ruby (@tiedyetwerp) March 4, 2019
But this is Twitter after all, so we had to up the ante somehow…
I’ll see your vans and raise you crocs pic.twitter.com/du9W6d7d68
— Dak (@RidiculousDak) March 5, 2019
But the Crocs theory seemed to hold up…
#VansChallenge failed, but my @Crocs never fail pic.twitter.com/xFSBtXx0nB
— Zimran Lawrence (@Zimran_Lawrence) March 5, 2019
Mind blown…it works with CROCS TOO!!! pic.twitter.com/SwcxvF8aP8

Oh, Twitter… sometimes I worry about you. But you do keep me entertained…

The 1994 NBA MVP Hakeem Olajuwon released pairs of $35 sneakers instead of endorsing shoes from other brands. He said, “How can a poor working mother with three boys buy Nikes or Reeboks that cost $120…She can’t. So kids steal these shoes from stores and others. Sometimes they kill for them.” 00
