And, just to be clear, I’m talking about the old TV show hosted by Robert Stack AND actual unsolved mysteries. From like, real life.

And there are so many to dig into!

1. True crime mystery.

“It’s old news but I genuinely want to know who the Zodiac K**ler was.

It’s probably impossible at this point but I would love to know.”

2. Creepy.

“I was a little kid when JonBeńet Ramsey was m**dered and I’ve always wanted them to really figure out who the k**ler was.

They’re never going to figure this one out. Patsy passed away. John and Burke are never talking if they know anything.

The crime scene is too convoluted to make a definitive case. There are no more leads to follow up on”

3. Very strange.

“Shelly Miscavige. What happened to her? Is she dead?

Is she being held captive? She hasn’t been confirmed seen since 2007. Local police went to look for her because a missing persons was filed. They said they saw her and everything is fine.

However, the police were Scientologists. No one has publicly seen her that I’m aware of. Certainly no proof.”

4. Art heist.

“The theft from the Gardner Museum in Boston in 1990.

My gut tells me that paintings have been destroyed which is devastating.”

5. Hoffa.

“What actually happened to Jimmy Hoffa?

I have my own thoughts frlm my dad’s stories from working for a Mob owned construction company.

But I still want to know what happened.”

6. A really scary one.

“The Delphi m**ders.

What a f**ked up crime.

Those girls deserve justice, and their families deserve peace.”

7. From France.

“In Nantes, in France, in 2011, a whole family disappeared. The mother and the four children were found dead by gunshot wound under a concrete slab in the garden of the family house.

The father, Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, is responsible for the m**der of his whole family (we are 99,9% sure of it). The mystery is not the motive but what happened to him.

It’s been 10 years and apart some proofs he fled away in the first few days (a picture of him at an ATM from a surveillance picture for example), no trace of him was ever found since.”

8. Down by the river.

“A 16 year old girl was found rolled up in a rug, deceased, down by the river in my county. Cops hid the truth that they were using her (a freaking kid) as a confidential informant.

Witnesses fishing down by the river that night saw two police cars stop in the location the body was found. The sheriff that was using her, investigated her d**th, tried to lay blame on her father, but the answer is still unknown.

That sheriff said it was a closed case even tho the father was never tried etc. Dirtiest cop I have ever seen and he got away with a lot of c**p. Would love to see the case investigated by an outside source and solved.”

9. Freaky!

“I want them to dig on Mars.

They only analyze rocks from the surface but I’m pretty sure that if you dig really deep, there are some dead Martian animals from 4 billion years ago when Mars had oceans and stuff.”

10. Spooky.

“The case of The Oakland County Child K**ler.

In 1976 and 1977 in Detroit’s wealthiest and safest suburbs, kids were snatched off the streets in broad daylight only to be found days later dead (after being alive that whole time!).

It was supposedly never solved, but there’s accusations of police coverups and all kinds of things”

“Cryogenic stasis.

If it were developed right now, I would say goodbye to my family/friends and hop right on in for at least 100 years.

Show me the future baby.”

12. What happened?

“William Tyrell.

I think the police know what happened, but are waiting on the final piece of evidence to finally charge someone with the crime.

I think there is a lot more involved than the story they have fed us about him being randomly abducted from the front of his home. His sister is the key to the whole thing.”

13. The children.

“Beaumont Children.

There are theories that it was Bevan Spencer Von Einem (he’d have been around the right age and general looks) but he totally denied it and his conviction was for the assault/m**der of a young boy whereas witnesses that saw “The Man” with the Beaumonts was overly interested in the elder daughter and most predators that are “into” that age range tend to have strong preferences for one gender or the other.””

14. Hometown story.

“I really want to see the disappearance of Sarm Heslop solved.

Why? Well it happened near my hometown which peaked my initial interest, and it just feels so freaking obvious that I just want it to be solved because if it’s not who I think it is I’m eating my own toes.

So basically, this woman, Sarm Heslop, a UK national lived with her US citizen bf, Ryan Bane, in some boat/catamaran off of the coats of St. John, USVI. On March 8th Ryan reports her missing, and soon searches are underway in both St. Thomas and St. John

The details:

Ryan claims they went to dinner, and both of them got back on the boat (Official)

The police say that they have no confirmation that they were both on the boat when Ryan said they were (Official)

At the time of her disappearance all of her belongings were still on the boat (Official)

He allegedly tried to point the finger at some local (black) men, and the suspicions were then directed to people on island, but that quickly fell short (Unofficial, but corroborated by many on island)

The VIPD doesn’t hold him in custody, says that they’re tracking him and knows where he is (official)

He’s out and seen publicly partying and having himself a ball (unofficial)

He also refused to help look for her/cooperate (allegedly he was being very difficult with questioning) (somewhat reported, but corroborated by Sarm’s friends and locals)

There was a nine hour delay in stating her as missing to the public and preparing a search (official)

He doesn’t allow the VIPD to check his boat, at all, despite him being a person of interest. The VIPD says they couldn’t search without a warrant and had to be turned back (Official)

Allegedly screaming was heard from their boat in the wee hours of the morning (He claims that he noticed her missing at around 2AM) (Unofficial)

He has had previous DV charges after being reported by his ex-girlfriend who states that he threw her on the ground and smashed her head into the ground during a fight (Official)

The last time I checked, he then sailed off from the territory and the FBI doesn’t know of his exact whereabouts (Official).”

Life sure can be strange…

One minute you can be minding your own business and having a pleasant day and then out of nowhere something totally unexpected and terrible happens.

That’s why it’s important to appreciate every day we have on this planet…because you never know when something bad might happen.

1. Gotta protect your head!

“I used to roller skate as a kid outside my house down a hill and never wore any kind of protection.

Suddenly one day before I go out my older brother tells me I can’t leave unless I put on a helmet, which is weird since he’s never cared before. Anyways I do it and that day, for the first time ever, I fell and landed on the back of my head so hard that the helmet cracked.

That crack would’ve probably been my skull had I not wore it.”

2. Creepy.

“Years ago I was on a first meet for an internet date. We met at a bar and the bartender carded us.

Even though we were both older they were doing stings in the area so he was carding every single person. Handed mine right over but my date was an *ss about it. The bartender checked mine and handed it back to me. He checked his and rather than handing it back to him he placed it on the bar right in front of me.

It had the s*xual offender stamp on it. The guy picked it up, looked at the bartender, looked at me and then got up and walked out. I immediately googled him. He was on the registry and had been in prison for r*pe.

Lesson learned. Always google. The bartender and I are still friends.”

3. Phew.

“About a year ago at my job I was offered to switch from my current team where I was established for a few years, had seniority, etc. for a new department that just started to kick it off, write processes, basically start from square 1. A lot more work for the same amount of pay. I figured f*ck it and went.

Yesterday they announced that they just closed the physical HQ office for my old department, and everyone in that entire part of the company would have to either move to one of 14 random states (that we cant pick, its chosen basically by a roulette wheel for where you’re going) to a local office, or they’re going to be fired.

Thankfully since I’m part of the new department, I wasn’t included in that mandate. Phew.”

4. Pre-pandemic.

“Sold my three restaurants in February 2020, for way more than they were worth.

Now two of them have closed.”

5. Close call.

“I was a teen driver not paying attention at an intersection at the crest of a hill with low visibility when the light turned green.

The car behind me honked and just as I was about to go a truck barreled through the red light on the perpendicular road at decidedly ludicrous speed. If I had been paying attention and gone when the light turned green, I very likely would have been T-boned to death.

Closest call I’ve ever had.”

6. This is scary.

“I was on the train in Brooklyn a few years ago.

Next to me was this man who had a big tool in his bag. I think it was a hammer. He was moving very oddly. It was just the vibe that “this man is up to something.”

I decided that once we got to the next stop, I would get off the train and catch the next train, which I did. 30 minutes later this guy gets off the train, at my stop, and starts attacking people. He went after cops and was shot to death.

If I didn’t get off that train, and instead got off with him, I might be dead.”

7. No more smoking.

“In 1994, I was on a business trip in LA.

I stopped for a pack of cigarettes before getting on the Santa Monica Freeway. The Northridge earthquake happened while I was in line. Parts of the freeway collapsed.

I quit smoking after that pack.”

8. Ouch.

“Got chucked off a horse. Hit the ground so hard I felt my soul leave my body.

Started to cough up blood and was having trouble breathing within 30 seconds. Rushed to the hospital and the doctors were running down the hallway with me on a back board (doctors running is aways a bad sign). I was sure I was dying.

Come to find out that I broke 2 bones in my back and collapsed a lung. Once I was more with it a nurse handed me my helmet and said “it’s a good job you were wearing this”. It had been cracked almost in half.

If I hadn’t been wearing it that would have been my head, and I’d most certainly be dead or permanently disabled. Wear your helmet kids.”

9. Tinder match.

“I matched with a guy on Tinder who played for the Atlanta Falcons. He was really charming and seemed nice

. He asked me to fly down to Atlantic City for Memorial Day weekend, said he would pay for everything (airfare, hotel, food, etc.) but I had never met him before and he refused to give me his phone number.

I was uncomfortable flying to meet a stranger so I told him no. Two weeks later he was on the news for kicking (and killing) his girlfriends dog.”

10. Avoiding the storm.

“2005, my friend and I evacuated New Orleans 2 days before Hurricane Katrina and drove to Mississippi with the little money we had.

We were trying to decided on where to stay for the night and it was between a mid range hotel or the really cheap motel. Decided to spend a little more for the hotel.

During the night the eye of the storm came through Mississippi and flattened the roof of the motel we decided against.”

11. Split decision.

“When I was 12 years old, I was going to be home alone one evening, since my mother was going to a dinner party at her friend’s house. She wouldn’t be home super late, midnight at the latest – but I would have to tuck myself in and such.

I was looking forward to it and feeling like a really “big girl”, hell yeah! Since we lived in a kind of shared two-story town house, with close neighbors on each side and a nice lady living in a separate apartment upstairs – I felt super safe being home alone at night.

An hour before dinner time, a good friend called and asked me if I wanted to come to her house and have dinner – afterwards they were going to watch “The Abyss” in their giant home theater.

Being a lover of sci-fi and having heard about the really cool computer graphics in that movie – had wanted to watch that movie in like forever. Having the chance to watch it on such a cool setup convinced me to go, despite having looked forward to being home alone.

The evening went fine and I had a good time – but since the movie was really long, I got home pretty late.

When I pulled up to my house on my bike, I only just noticed an orange glare in the windows upstairs – before the first-story windows exploded out in to the garden. The fire department arrived only a few minute later, and put out the fire, before it could engulf our part of the house as well.

Apparently the lady upstairs had fallen asleep on her couch, with a cigarette in her hand. The fire had smoldered in the couch, developing a very toxic smoke, which not only caused the lady to get “normal” smoke inhalation – the chemicals also f*cked up her brain permanently. She was in a coma for a year or so, before they ended up pulling the plug.

The doozy was that we shared our ventilation system with the upstairs apartment, so our apartment was jet black – SO much of the poisonous smoke had come into our home.

The fire marshal (I think they’re called in English?) said that with that amount of smoke, combined with my small stature – I would never even have noticed the fire (I would have been asleep by then), but simply have slipped into a coma and died, before anyone had even noticed the fire from outside the house.

I think the shock almost killed my mother as well. See, she thought I was home (I hadn’t told her of my sudden change of plans), and got the call about the fire from a neighbor – to only later learn that I was shocked, but safe and sound, being looked after by another neighbor.

So I guess that’s the story of how my budding love of sci-fi and computer graphics helped me dodge a bullet with a big fat ”DEATH” stamped on it.
I still love that movie.”

1. Avoided a tragedy.

“I was booked on Pan Am flight 103 which went down over Locherbie Scotland.

I didn’t have a premonition or anything supernatural. I just decided to cancel my seat. Didn’t think anything of it until the plane went down and my mother had written down my flight plan and reminded me.

This was back in the day when you could cancel without a penalty up to a couple of days in advance.”

2. Fire hazard.

“I was subletting an apartment in college and got zapped by the electric stove.

Gave notice immediately and moved out with very clear reasons why I was moving out.

The building burned down a few weeks later.”

3. Bomb.

“In 1996 the IRA bombed the Arndale center in Manchester.

Myself and a group of friends were on a bus heading straight there. We were probably about ten to twenty minutes out.

The thing is, one of my friends was late. So we had to get on the bus just after the one we intended to get on. Guess where that bus was when the bomb went off?”

4. Bus crash.

“A bus.

I grew up in Bermuda, and since it is such a small island cars are limited to one per family, and everyone drives mopeds. I was driving into town, and came up to a red light behind a bus.

As is tradition, I scooted around the bus to be in the front of the line of traffic. Literally 2 seconds later a second bus smashed into the back of the first bus at like 30 mph.

I would have been pancaked. Without question, 100% dead. I just sat on the side of the road for a bit and thought about my mortality.”

5. You lucked out.

“My ex-girlfriend moved out of my house a day before the first lockdown in Spain.

She previously pulled a knife on me.”

6. Scary.

“A few months ago I was driving on I-80 at night when out of nowhere the biggest buck I’d ever seen is in the middle of my lane.

I did exactly what you’re not supposed to do and swerved, and thankfully managed to keep the rear of the car content with it.

I literally shaved that buck’s *ss. My mirror was folded in.

I know you’re not supposed to swerve, but I drive a tiny little thing and that buck’s body would’ve gone through my windshield into my and my wife’s face at 70 mph.”

7. Barely made it out.

“I found an explosive device in a National Guard training area when I was 14. It had little pull string and a metal plate to attach it to a tree.

I held the thing in my hand and almost pulled the string but decided to attach it to a tree instead and put on a longer pull string. I pulled the string and it blew a 5 inch hole in the tree.

The explosion was so loud the police came and it made the local news. (They didn’t catch me.) I would have lost at least one hand, maybe both or worse.”

8. Gut feeling.

“My first ever boyfriend dated me when I was 14 and he was 16.

We only dated for one week before he took me into the woods and forced me to kiss him. I started to feel ‘icky’ and broke it off that same day.

Five years later I found out that he was now in prison for r*ping two fourteen year old girls.”

“I was supposed to hang out with a couple of friends one night.

We were going to go to a party that we were all invited to the weekend before. I asked to get off work early so I could go to the party. My manager let me go early, so I went to go find my friends. But I had a really bad feeling all day and it just kept getting worse.

Instead of turning left to go to my friend’s house, I went right and went home. I found out a few weeks later that they got busted with cocaine in their car. They were 16 and 17 at the time. I was 18, so I would have been screwed.”

“In 1996, my parents were deciding between two houses to move into.

They picked the new construction that resulted in being placed on shoddy soil and years of lawsuits when we ultimately moved in 2001.

Anyway, the other house they could’ve picked (presumably on better soil) would’ve placed my older sister at Columbine High School as a freshman for the 1998-1999 school year.”

“Once at a bar a woman was surprisingly into me as we danced. If I had had more confidence back then I definitely could’ve taken her home.

In the end, one of my karaoke buddies ended up with her instead and got caught by her husband that night.”

12. Not a scratch.

“Driving along a road about 50 mph and a farm tractor comes out of a field straight into the side of me.

Spins my car and as I realise the car is going over I grip the steering wheel tight, close my eyes and brace myself for excruciating pain or death. The car rolls a few times then stops, upside down. I hang there by my seatbelt for a few stunned moments then realise I’m ok.

I walked away with not a single scratch or even a bruise. Car was destroyed, and all the emergency services who attended could not believe I was completely ok.”

If You Could Learn the Truth About One Mystery, What Would You Choose?

I was flipping through the TV channels recently and I happened upon a show on National Geographic about the many conspiracy theories surrounding the JFK assassination.

I have no answers or ideas really, but every single time I come across anything to do with what might have happened in Dallas on that day in 1963, I’m immediately sucked in.

And I know I’m not alone on that one!

People on AskReddit discussed the mysteries they want to know all about. Let’s take a look.

1. What are we missing?

“Some animals can’t see color cause they don’t have the right organs for it.

What are all of the aspects of life we’re missing out on cause we don’t have the organs to perceive them?”

2. What happened?

“The truth from when my gran died and the weeks leading up to it. She died on the 6th of December.

She cancelled her life insurance just days before her death Wrapped every single present for the whole family and name tagged them (over 30 family members) when she usually wrapped them on Xmas eve She worked in a small gift shop along with the owner- both of them died within 3 hours of each other.

Has puzzled me for years and hopefully some truth comes out before I pass away.”

3. A big one.

“The Panama Papers.

LOADS of wealthy people involved and murders attached to it, also.”

4. Monsters of the deep.

“What deep sea creatures exist that we haven’t found yet?

Just how big is the largest squid out there?”

5. A weird one.

“I gotta go with the first ever unsolved mystery that really made me think. Mystery of the Somerton Man.

In 1948 a guy was found dead on a beach in Adelaide, Australia. He was never identified and months after finding his body they found a fake pocket in his pants. It was torn from a copy of the book Rubiyat of Omar Khayyam (I googled that) and had a phrase on it which said “Tamam Shud” which means ended or finished in Persian.

They found the book that it came from but the owner denied ever knowing the guy. There was an encrypted message in the book that they found and it still hasn’t been cracked. Apparently there’s been a development recently that might identify him as H.C. Reynolds but it’s not 100% certain.

It’s super interesting.”

6. Didn’t check out.

“Jennifer Fairgate/Fergate.

It’s a fascinating mystery – a woman checks into the Oslo Plaza Hotel, a five-star establishment, and is found dead in her room three days later. Initially assumed to have committed a suicide, but there’s no blood on her hands, no gunshot residue, no fingerprints on the bullets in the gun or the gun itself, which in addition to the odd position in which she is found on her bed really starts looking more like homicide.

Additionally, no personal belongings in the room besides clothes, shoes, a travel bag and an attaché full of bullets. Clothes and shoes have all producer labels/designations removed as well.

Contents of her stomach indicate that she had died the day before she was found, but a member of staff who knocked on her door heard a gunshot go off right after that, indicating someone’s presence inside.

The door was also locked from the inside but no one was there when they got in. Probably my favourite true crime thing.”

7. Never came back.

“One day grandfather just walked out the door and never came back.

This was before I was born. He left behind my grandmother and his three children. There was a state-wide search. My mom’s family never got closure.

Although, I think he might’ve had another family that he ran away to. But it still baffles me sometimes at night. My grandmother finally held a pseudo-funeral/memorial for him last year.”

8. MK Ultra.

“I wanna know if they kept going at it with the MK Ultra thing and how they do it now if it is.

Everything we know about it comes from 20,000 files that were misplaced, causing them to be missed when they attempted to destroy all documentation of the program.”

9. Creepy.

“The Korovina Group.

Basically a group of seven hikers start hiking the mountains when six of them start bleeding from the eyes, ears, nose and mouth. They all scream, start seizing, one even starts bashing their head on a rock. The remaining survivor flees, but later comes back to the bodies to get supplies. She’s found a few days later but refused to talk about it

A lot of people say its a deadly nerve agent that Russia was using (this happened in Siberia? I think) but that doesn’t explain why the last one survived, even going back and still being unaffected.”

10. Vanished.

“Harold Holt (Australian Prime Minister in the 1960’s) ‘disappeared’ while swimming at the beach.

He was never found.”

11. Missing persons.

“A man only a year older than me went missing in my town, right near my place of work a few years ago. He just disappeared. I remember seeing the missing posters and the police conducting searches.

It has been several years and he is still listed as missing. I think about him from time to time and wonder whatever happened to him. I’d want to know about him.

There are so many cases like his, I hope his family and the other families one day get answers.”

12. This one is eerie.

“The Yuba County 5

5 young mentally handicap men went missing. They were gone for months thout any clues other than a few mysterious phone calls saying not to look for them. Their vehicle was found up on a mountain road a few days after they went missing. It turned on and ran perfectly fine

They were finally found in a trailer deep in the mountains,the strange thing was the one full corpse that was found starved and froze to death when there was plenty of food, water and heat in the trailer to last all 5 boys a year.

Some of the food had been eaten showing that they hadn’t had a problem accessing the food. While they did have impairments, they were all independent and would have know how to turn on the heat and get food, call for help.

To add the mystery rhe 5th man’s body was never found and while the others were cognitively impaired he suffered from schizophrenia and had several disturbing incidents leading up to their disappearance.

The full corpse that was found was wearing this man’s shoes, but wasn’t him, the corpse had been wearing boots the night they disappeared and its believed that the man either stole them or talked the other young man into giving him his boots.

What happens to the 5th man? Why did the man in the trailer starve to death surrounded by food. Why did the other men leave the trailer and die just 100s of feet away from it when there was food and warmth so close.

Why did they leave the car to begin with? Why didn’t they follow the trail back to the road?”

I love all kinds of mysteries, urban legends, and conspiracy theories.

Even if I don’t really believe in a particular story, I still think they’re fascinating to read about…and there are a ton of them out there to dive into.

What unsolved mysteries would you like to know the truth behind?

1. Suddenly gone.

“I wanna know what happened to Louis Le Prince, the true inventor of the film camera.

Boarded a train but never left it.

No body found.”

2. What really happened?

“I would want to learn the truth around the Mothman and what people were seeing in the days leading up to the bridge collapse.”

3. D.B. Cooper.

“Assuming he died (are we allowed to learn two truths about one mystery?), where did most of D.B. Cooper’s ransom money end up after he jumped from that airplane?

I believe the FBI lets you keep it if you find it, as long as you give them a chance to analyze it for latent prints/DNA first.

Those bills must be worth a fortune to a collector. Even if they aren’t, I’ll still get tens of thousands of dollars in cash. Who doesn’t want that?

So, I get my name in the papers for finding Cooper’s money, and I get a nice chunk of change to keep. A double-whammy of good fortune.”

4. Who wrote it?

“Who wrote the Voynich Manuscript and why? And why was it written encoded or in an unknown language?

I like learning about weird mysteries in history and this is one that remains unsolved to this day despite quite extensive research through the centuries.”

5. Unsolved.

“There is this famous case in France where a bourgeois family was killed, except the father who disappeared.

He is of course the prime suspect, as the events they have reconstructed suggest he got the oldest son back home himself to kill him after the other family members has already been murdered. He buried them all under the terrace and they weren’t found right away, so he got a “head start” so to say.

It’s been years and no one knows what happened to him. There have been plenty of sightings, all over the country, but he looks very average and forgetable. A few years back, they thought they got him on a flight in (from?) Scotland, and didn’t show his picture until a few days later… and everyone who knows about the case wondered wtf was the police thinking, because the man who was arrested looks nothing like him.

Anyway, I’d like to know what happened to him and if he really did it. I have little doubt he did, but he went to such length to cover his tracks, sending letters to family members saying he and his family were relocating under witness protection in the US, or suggesting he was involved in a big case and couldn’t disclose his location etc…

Some people even believed the people buried in his yard were not his real family but morgue corpses with elements of DNA to link it to the family so they could escape/fake their death.

Netflix did an episode on it in their remastered Unsolved Mysteries (Season 1) if you want to know more about the case, it’s really interesting.”

“So many rabbit holes to go down.

“The Jon Benet Ramsey one just sits on my brain sometimes!

She was born the same year as my little brother so when she died it was so hard to not be caught up in it.

It really bugs me that we still don’t have a definitive answer of who did it.”

Did the British intentionally let the Germans sink the Lusitania to bring the US into WW1?

Did FDR have advance warning of Pearl Harbor, but did nothing?

Some people who worked in the television industry at that time have said that it was impossible for an outsider to pull it off.

It had to have been done by someone who was knowledgeable about TV signals and had access to all the equipment, which wasn’t publicly available in 1987.”

11. A scary one.

“The disappearance of Lars Mittank in 2014. Read about it somewhere years ago and it still bothers me sometimes.

I try to sum it up: German tourist is on vacation in Croatia, gets into a little bar fight over soccer, gets injured on his ear. Doctor tells him not to fly until fully recovered, friends leave without him after he insists, that he’ll be fine without them.

He checks in into a hotel and suddenly shows serious signs of Paranoia and one day later he calls his mother, whispering that he is being followed by four men, that are trying to kill him. After some time, he can finally fly back and enters the airport, seemingly “back to normal”. This is covered by the airport cameras.

He even talks with someone inside the airport like everything’s normal. He then leaves the camera angle for a second with all of his luggage in his hand and just seconds later he runs full speed out of the airport, leaving his luggage behind just like that. In front of the airport he stands there shortly like he is looking for something, then he continues to run in a specific direction, clips over a decently high fence and disappears in a sunflower field and is never seen again, nor is his body.

The most realistic scenario is that he had some kind of concussion or brain damage from the hit that injured his ear, but his friends described him as perfectly normal after the incident. There are so many things weird and not fitting in this case.

People Who Knew Killers Talk About When They Knew Something Was Wrong

Have you ever know anybody who killed someone?

I haven’t…at least not that I know of…

But, as you can imagine, there are a lot of people out there who have. And we’re in luck because they have some tales to tell.

People on AskReddit shared their stories about knowing murderers. Let’s check them out.

1. Distracted.

“He lived down the hall from me and we hung out sometimes but not like just the two of us. Still, we’d chill at each other’s place regularly.

I passed him one day in the stairwell and I said hi. He said hi back but called me by the wrong name. He was really distracted and kind of awkward. He didn’t make eye contact and kept moving.

I remember thinking maybe we we don’t know each other as well as I thought. Later he was playing Nintendo (yep, my N64 – this was a while ago) with my roommate when I came home. He apologized and said his mind was elsewhere.

A couple days later there are cops all over the building, interviewing people and searching his place. They’d found the guy’s roommate with a bullet in the back of his head in an abandoned lot across town. The next day he confessed.”

2. The creeps.

“There was a kid I went to high school with who always gave me the creeps, we had a lot of mutual friends so we always ended up hanging out and it always made me feel really uncomfortable.

Our senior year he got suspended for like a week because someone had found and turned in a hit list he had made, no one really took it too seriously. About three years after we graduated he was in the news for murdering a man in our town that he barely knew.

He told the police that he held the man’s eyes open so he could watch his life leave his body.”

3. A little odd.

“Had an employee on my work crew, acted strange and wouldn’t listen to direction.

Had goofy huge sideburns. Ended up going to jail for a short time, when he got out he shot his girlfriends and her parents.”

4. Uncomfortable.

“Looking back, I should have known immediately, but I didn’t even know what I was seeing.

In 2016, I was working as a server, and one of my coworkers was always complaining about her sh*tty husband and how they always fought. They were from Chicago, and kind of just always loud and aggressive, so I didn’t think much of it.

One night, they both came in for dinner and drinks and sat in my section, and I was looking forward to finally meeting her husband so I could give him a face…I just remember not being able to look him in the eye; feeling super uncomfortable any time I needed to go over to their table, because my friend would try to spark convo—and I wanted to talk to her—but the guy’s presence just sitting there would make my skin crawl.

They left that night but soon she stopped coming to work and then, a couple weeks later, news broke about the murder-suicide (husband being the murderer).

It was heartbreaking…and I no longer take lightly word of domestic disputes.”

5. A kind person.

“I knew this kid my entire life. We were friends in elementary and middle school (more middle school.) He was your typical redneck kid but a kind person.

Imagine if Pinky from Pinky and the Brain grew up in the rural south. Well as people do in school we drifted apart. He honestly wasn’t the person in the group I was friends with he was just in that circle. So we went about out lives.

A year after we graduated in the same town we all grew up in he killed his entire family. Mother, brother, stepsister, father. Just for no reason. Nothing really provoked him from my understanding. He left and went to ride atv’s with his friend later that day. They caught him and he had no memory of it.

He went to court and got life and never could recount a single moment (at least he said.) It was weird seeing this kid who was to your knowledge just dumber than a bag of hammers yet a odd innocence to him, on trail for such atrocities. He just sat stone faced the entire time.

Almost like he didn’t understand what had happened. Not to say I felt bad for him but I felt something, sadness perhaps.”

6. Anger issues.

“My biological dad ended up murdering my step-mom. Everyone in my family, my mom and two older brothers definitely knew that something was up.

He had severe anger issues and was very abusive, some of the earlier memories I have are of him choking one of my brothers. He even almost choked my mom to death a couple of times. Obviously my mom was smart and divorced him as he didn’t want to see him kill my brothers.

Years later I come home from school and my mom and step-dad take us all to the side and tell us he shot our step-mom and was currently in jail. None of us were surprised. If anything I was just so grateful my mom left him.

It’s so strange that I am directly related to a murderer.”

7. Jose.

“The first time I met him.

Jose was a friend of my ex and something immediately seemed off. He was sneaky, always lying and cheating (but not good at it cause he was dumb), and a total narcissist as well. I told my ex to keep his distance, that Jose would only get him into some sh*t.

Not only did he set my ex up to be robbed, Jose snitched on a bunch of other people, and finally snapped on stranger in a fit of road/roid rage and stabbed him.

The guy he killed was fairly young and a good kid, just in the wrong place at the time. I hope that *sshole rots in prison.”

8. Class clown.

“Kid I went to school with from 5th to 8th grade. He was always a d*ck. Typical class clown but with a mean streak.

When we hit middle school he was always making comments about/to girls that were incredibly inappropriate. I never liked him and hated being around him.

He ended up getting into meth and shot his mom and dad in their sleep while high. His mom died and his dad survived but was severely injured. Last I heard he was crying crocodile tears saying he regrets everything and wants another chance.

But knowing him, it’s total bullsh*t. He deserves to rot.”

9. Right away.

“The moment he told me that back home in Russia he once shot a guy who kept insulting him.

Weirdest wedding party encounter ever – but it seems I’m distantly related to a murderer since around 13 years or so.”

10. Rage.

“I know one and still keep in contact with him. We all knew he had issues with rage, but we never thought he would’ve killed someone.

We worked together at this restaurant for a while and we got really close. Like if I wasn’t in a committed relationship at the time I would’ve dated him. He was super chill, down to earth and the sweetest person…until something triggered him. He didn’t get angry often, but he had triggers that would send him into a rage.

He was horribly abused as a child by his father, so there was a lot of resentment towards men that looked like his dad or talked down to him. That is where we bonded, because I was abused by my mother. Thankfully, I had the resources to manage my trauma. Unfortunately, he did not.

His parents believed that God was going to cure his traumas. It got to the point where his mother left, because his father would pull him out of therapy as soon as they would start making progress and she couldn’t deal with it anymore.

He ended up suffering from a concussion about 6 months after I met him. He was helping a friend move and had a dresser fall on his head. After this he wasn’t the same. He quit coming into work and went almost radio silent. We would still talk, but we weren’t as close as we were before.

At the time, I was moving into the city and he lived in the suburbs so we had planned on getting together to catch up! A week later, I got a call from my friend at 7 in the morning saying that he was in jail for hiding a body…I was shook.

After an investigation, they interrogated him and he confessed pretty quick. He beat his dad to death with a barbell and tried to hide the body in the house. Afterwards he ended up trying to kill himself but was unsuccessful, so he just left the house. After he was booked, I sent him a letter to check in on him.

He had suffered from a psychotic episode and only remembers moments from the act. He’s now serving 40 years with the possibility of parole after 20. He’s medicated and doing really well! Last I checked he had a few activities he was responsible for managing and he was working through his traumas with a psych.”

11. Whoa.

“When he came looking for me because I was the only one that knew of the abandoned mine we both found when exploring as kids.

It had been years since we had talked and he suddenly showed up looking for me.

He killed his roommate because he was gay and made a pass at him. Dumped the body in the mine in Boulder County, Colorado.”

12. Wasn’t “off” at all.

“He was the sweetest, kindest, gentle giant kind of guy. Kind of a weirdo, but still a great guy overall. I remember once that he shed a tear just by talking about his kid, because he was so filled with emotion from having him in his life.

He turned out to kill his wife, kidnap his child, start the longest Amber Alert in the history of Canada, as he tried escaping to a different province he killed another man to steal his car.

I’m still unsure today if I should have seen anything at any point. It comes to haunt my nightmares from time to time.”

People Who Knew Murderers Share When They Knew Something Felt Off

I have a buddy who grew up and went to school with a guy who, a few years out of high school, ended up murdering two women.

He’s often told me about what this person was like before he became a killer and I’ve always found the whole thing very fascinating.

And you probably feel the same way if you’re here reading this article.

AskReddit users who knew killers talk about when they knew something was wrong.

1. Awful.

“Sat next to him in choir class. He was always kind of off.

He operated on his own wavelength. Constantly in his own world, never really engaging with anybody. People just didn’t really exist on his radar. On a class trip we slept in the same hotel room and he walked around naked like I wasn’t even there.

I always assumed he was autistic, but in hindsight it might have been something much worse, like schizophrenia. He never seemed violent, but nobody ever talked to him enough to ever make that conclusion in the first place.

A few months ago he beat and stabbed his mother to death with a kitchen knife. It was so bad dental records were needed to identify the body. He cut off one of her breasts and implied in his confession that he ate part of it. He waited until his dad came home from work to show him what he’d done.

Claimed he saw a sign from the devil that told him to kill her. (That may have been a lie. From what I heard he was very excited to tell the police what he had done. And from what I do know about him, he might have said it for the attention.) He turned himself in, waived his Miranda rights, and confessed to everything.

When the cops found him he was literally soaked in blood. He refused to shower it off, so they had to hose him down before they put him in a cell. He’s looking at 40 years in prison.

His Mom was an amazing woman, she tailored our suits for choir and was constantly volunteering. If there was an event, she was there. She was gonna be her town’s councilwoman next year. She loved her son very much. She didn’t deserve to die like that.”

2. Distant.

“I went through primary and high school with a guy in the year below me who seemed a little… distant. We lived near each other and caught the bus from the same stop.

He was a bit of a bully but it was something more. Like you could tell he wasn’t a bully because he was hurting inside or because he felt threatened in some way, he was a bully because he did what he wanted to do and didn’t realise that it hurt other people. Like the kind of kid who enjoyed pulling wings off flies.

Not long after I left my hometown I heard that he had been charged with the murder of a 2 year old. Apparently his girlfriend at the time left her daughter with him for an hour or so while she ran an errand. He couldn’t deal with the toddler crying anymore so he beat her.

He caused severe internal bleeding and she died in hospital not long after. He would have been around 22 when he did it. He was sentenced to 36 years with a non parole period of 27 years.

This happened in Australia around 2014.”

3. Cold and angry.

“I moved to a new town when I was 19 and was making new friends at my new job. I met this girl at work and she invited me over to hang out with her and her best friend.

I went and the best friend’s boyfriend was there and the vibes were waaay off. I was uncomfortable. He was cold, and just seemed angry for no reason. They had mentioned to me before he got there that he was always controlling and had hit the girl before.

Turns out controlling was an understatement. She came home one day and he was digging a hole in the backyard and she asked what he was doing and he replied “digging your grave.” He hit her, said if he can’t have her, nobody could have her, all of that.

So eventually she left him and had to get a restraining order and everything. He somehow persuaded her to get in a car with him on her work break and they went missing for a few days. Turns out he stabbed her to death, threw her in a river and killed himself.

I met the girl only a few times and him only the once but the face that I was in such close proximity to someone capable of that gives me chills. She was so young, it was really sad.”

4. Always off.

“I worked at a box store about 20 years ago, a guy I worked with was always “off,” and would give away pocket knives to other employees.

One day he came in with scratches all over his face; he had r*ped and murdered a disabled girl the day before, using a pocket knife he had given our co-worker later that day.”

5. My uncle.

“My uncle murdered somebody and is currently serving life in prison.

From my earliest memory I knew he had some screws loose.”

6. Father and son.

“I knew a guy who killed his dad with a baseball bat (found not guilty).

I met his dad when he came in to the bar I worked at. He was a nightmare. He would squeeze peoples’ hands when he shook them. He and his son were both boxers and the dad was really rough with him apparently.

The day he was found not guilty he sent a text to someone at the bay saying ‘I told you I would get off”.”

7. Not surprised…

“I know a guy who murdered a nurse and wanted our towns first serial killer. He bought a “murder kit” online and stabbed her over 50 times. Let’s call him Steve.

I knew him through scouts. Now, to preface, our scout troop was pretty laid back. We didn’t tend to bother with badges and the two troop leaders were pretty cool guys. Mostly we played silly games like crab football, built catapults to fire stuff across the hall at each other etc. You get the picture.

We were a little bit a gang of misfits. But Steve was really weird. First time it came out was when he would do this thing where he’d get his b*tt out and dance around. At first it was like outrageous and funny, and he kept getting told to stop.

When he kept doing it got a bit annoying (none of us were keen to see his bare arse…), then it got boring, then just outright weird when its not remotely funny, no one wanted him to do it and he continued.

He also used to bring in print outs of super gross porn (obviously confiscated and thrown away). Again, he was clearly trying to gross people out for his amusement.

A few times he was suspended for a week or so but give we were quite laid back and the troop leaders were good guys, they probably couldn’t bring themselves to bin him off completely.

It was a long time ago so I can’t recall all the details but I recall him being quite childish in mentality but also veeeery creepy.

When I found out i was shocked, but not surprised. Then I remembered I’d played hide and seek in the dark with this guy, in a hall with a kitchen full of knives…”

8. Regular guy.

“A regular customer in my shop.

He would come in to buy beer and tobacco. On one occasion he caught and helped us to evict a shoplifter. He seemed friendly enough. A local girl went missing and was eventually pulled out of a river a few weeks later.

Police announced they were looking for a man in connection with her death and it was him. They had CCTV footage of him tailing her through a park and footage of him buying beer in a shop, still unconfirmed to this day being our shop as they blurred out the surroundings.

Anyway, as we had a TV in our shop switched to the news channel as it was a rolling story local to us, we started to discuss the guy, if we saw him on the day she went missing, that kind of thing.

We hadn’t, but it was at that point when one of my staff, a young girl, who had previously said to management that she didn’t want to work the closing shift anymore because there was “too many creepy men around”, told us that he used to stare at her when he came in to the store in a way that made her uncomfortable enough to not want to be on the floor when he came in.

They never got to question him about the murder as he was found dead in a local park a few days later. He’d hung himself.”

9. Didn’t suspect anything.

“I never suspected a thing. She was the nicest woman, I even let her babysit my cousin when I had custody of him for a little while.

She was my neighbor (couple houses down) and everyone loved her, she grew gigantic pumpkins, was always outside, so everyone interacted with her a lot. I moved away and a few years later and was shocked to hear everything from my family and friends who still loved in the area.

The story: She was married to a man, I knew him from my time living there too. One day, he was just gone. She was all beaten up. She said he beat her up (we always suspected this happened before this incident) and had left her because he got a woman pregnant a few towns over. We never heard from him again, but didn’t really have a reason to.

She would mention every once in a while that he was still harassing her and was even beat up on another occasion after his disappearance. He was self-employed and didn’t really have any family, no one suspected anything. Three years later she was dating another man. While dating this man, the police had been investigating her for stealing money from the grocery store she worked at.

They went to the boyfriends cabin, where they both were, to arrest her. She came to the door, said ok, let me go put on some clothes. The police waited at the door (I obviously wasn’t here for this part, so this is what I hear). The police then hear two gunshots. They run inside and she had poured gasoline and set the house on fire then shot her dog then herself. It took some time to get the house fire under control.

Once they did, and began investigating, they found another body in the basement that didn’t die in the fire, but several days earlier. The body in the basement was her boyfriend. Then, they began investigating further, and found a blue 55 gallon drum in her backyard that contained her husband.

So, she killed 2 people and her dog, and all she was suspected of was stealing from the grocery store.”

10. Nobody liked him.

“My ex-coworker was always a huge d*ck who nobody liked to work with.

He’d always be on his phone and talking to someone, even when he had a customer waiting to order in the drive-thru. The moment I knew he had something wrong with him was when I caught him “looking for his dab pen” in one of the lockers in the backroom.

He always used a top locker, but he was searching through one at the bottom, which happened to be my locker for the day. I told him that, so he just stared me in the face for a second, and walked away.

Later that same year, I learned that he shot and killed someone at a gas station.”

11. Deep sadness.

“A co-worker lived with his elderly dad. He was a super nice, but just always had this deep sadness behind his face.

His gf broke up with him, his dad’s health went south. Everything became too much so he shot his dad and then himself. Even after hearing that, I felt bad for him.

He seemed like a dude with a big heart and if he just had a day to decompress and someone to talk to, I think it would have gone a lot differently.”
