People Shared McDonald’s Restaurants That Are in Very Weird Locations

We’re used to the prototypical McDonald’s restaurant over the years. Golden arches, red and yellow color scheme, maybe a play area for the kiddos outside.

They’re all pretty uniform for the most part… or are they?

Well, we’re here to give you a reality check, friends! Because here are some photos of McDonald’s from all over the world that are totally unique.

Was McDonald’s Better When We Were Kids? You Bet It Was!

Back when us olde rfolks were growing up in the 1980s and ’90s, going to McDonald’s was definitely not a twice or more a week sort of event that happened because mom (cough, cough) didn’t plan very well. Not by a long shot.

It was a special occasion that was fun and nutritious!

Well, maybe not nutritious. But definitely fun – at McDonald’s there was stuff to do and clowns to see and gifts to get.

Scroll with me down memory lane and see for yourself.

1. Happy Meal Toys

So many great toys that you couldn’t play with until you ate everything and drank all your soda because they didn’t have milk haha.

2. The Employees

They smiled and wore nice smocks and they actually liked kids.

3. Playplaces

Sometimes our moms would take us there just to let us play when the weather was bad and we couldn’t stand to be indoors anymore. And someone would always leave their shoes in the cubby, lol.

4. Officer Big Mac

Big Mac jail was fun. We would fight to see who would go in.

5. The Nintendo 64 Kiosk

Times were tough back then. Not everyone had a new N64 with those super awesome graphics.

But McDonald’s had them for us to play with.

6. Burger Stools

Yes, they were hard to sit on. Yes, they were super cool. Yes, you raced your sister to get your choice of seat.

7. McDonald’s Halloween Buckets

An autumn essential presented to you by your favorite neighborhood McDonald’s.

8. McDonald’s Pizza

It was good. Deal.

McDonald’s Pizza in the early 90’s. It was shockingly good from pics

I don’t know what to tell you children of 2000 and later. You missed the golden years of the golden arches. The food is still decent and you might get a smile from a cashier wearing a logo-ed golf shirt, but it’s not the dreamland of yesteryear.

We just didn’t know what we had.

Ford Is Making Headlights from McDonald’s Coffee Bean Waste

This is pretty cool!

Coffee beans and headlights don’t seem like a natural pairing, but McDonald’s and Ford are working to change that.

The two historic American companies have come together in a joint effort to drive sustainability initiatives in quite a unique way. This year, Ford began utilizing coffee chaff—the coffee bean skin that comes off during the roasting process—as a key component of its plastic headlamp housing. Naturally, the iconic car manufacturer turned to McDonald’s to steer them in the direction of the fast-food giant’s coffee bean suppliers.

As data showing the harmful effects of plastic pollution and carbon emissions makes its way into the public consciousness, there has been a trickle-down effect into the business world as well. Environmentally-conscious consumers continue to push for products that are comprised of sustainable materials.

Hence: coffee bean waste into plastic alternatives.

Debbie Miewelski, Ford’s senior technical leader of materials sustainability, explained that the coffee-containing version of the company’s headlamps is more sustainable than its traditional plastic and talc-based models due to its lighter weight. Additionally, talc is not a renewable component, whereas coffee chaff is widely available and has typically been discarded.

The coffee chaff innovation is just the latest in a long line of sustainability projects by Ford. Ford vehicles have featured soy-based foam in their cushions since 2011, and waste from wheat, coconut, tomato and other plants has been utilized in other Ford car components.

“If you came to our lab, it looks somewhere between a landfill and a farm,” Miewelski said.

When Ford decided coffee was its next fix, its team reached out to McDonald’s due to its scale and similar sustainability goals.

The gigantic fast-food restaurant chain achieved its goal of sourcing all of its U.S. coffee sustainability a year ahead of schedule in 2019. Their partnership with Ford will hopefully lead to more opportunities for crafting environmentally-friendly, sustainable products.

As Ian Olson, senior director of global sustainability at McDonald’s, said, “This is just scratching the surface of trying to understand what’s possible.”

Cheers to that!

These Brave Souls Share Their Most Bizarre and Intense McDonald’s Experiences

McDonald’s is so popular because it’s fast, cheap, and convenient. Inevitably, some people will see some strange things there.

A few brave Reddit users decided to spill the beans about some intense experiences there. Their tales are below so you can gasp too.

10. “I Just Sat There in Shock”

Some people will go through great lengths to keep you from touching their stuff.

“As a kid, I was in Detroit at a McDs and went to walk to my table after ordering. Well the guy in front of me was walking out with his order in front of me. He proceeded to leave the doors and brandished a pistol and point it at a couple kids nearby outside. As I sat down, I kept watching him out the window in disbelief. It seemed he was using it to keep the kids away from getting his food. I had no idea what to do and just sat there in shock.” — Chosen2One3

9. “The Cashier Was Super Flustered”

Seems like a tough day!

“Went pretty late at night with 2 friends but we were picking up for a big group. We ended up ordering about 20 McDoubles and 10 McChickens. The cashier was super flustered because they didn’t have a lot of employees working at the time. The manager stepped in and started cranking out McDoubles at lightning speed. I’ve still never had a McDonald’s order that efficient.” —gogiants1226

8. “This Time I Was Able to Save My Food…”

At least this user’s food was safe.

“Oh god. This also happens to be one of my most embarrassing moments.

One time I went in and ordered a dine-in meal. I took my tray of food over to my table and had to cross a “wet floor” area. I slipped like someone on the movies: completely backward, food flying over my head. The staff was nice enough to comp me a fresh meal.

I start to take THAT tray over to the soda machine, slip AGAIN, though this time I was able to save my food by sort of placing it on the counter as I was slipping

Couldn’t save my pride, though. A woman looked at me trying to pull myself off my ass the second time and said, “Are you OKAY??” with a not very subtle tone of disgust.

I think I was wearing new shoes and the soles were extra slick. But OMG.”

7. “That Was a Good Day…”

At least this one has a happy ending.

“This might not be the story you were looking for, but once in high school on lunch break, me and four friends went to a McDonald’s that was known for being a little sketchy, very inner city. We were all good friends so we would always pool our money so everyone could eat. We could only come up with five bucks between us so everyone got one of those one dollar chicken sandwiches they used to have, and we were not satisfied. Then as we were preparing to leave, a little old lady with a big smile came up to our table and said “you know what I see here? Brotherhood.” Weren’t sure what she meant at first, but then we realized that our group consisted of two white kids, one black, one Asian, and one Indian, which would be something she didn’t see much growing up when she was our age. She was so pleased she gave us another five dollars. We each got another sandwich, that was a good day.”—kitchenmutineer

6. A Man “Asked Why I Talk the Way I Do”

Oh no… just no!

“I have a Speech Impediment.

I was coming back from the Hospital because one of my clients was in there for Surgery. I was hungry so I stopped at the McDonald across the street. After I wait in line and I’m done placing my order the man behind me asked why I talk the way I do. Then he started to give me improvised in the spot Speech Therapy.

The worst part? I don’t even think he was a Speech Pathologist.”—northboundcentreriot

5. “We Stopped… So I Could Puke”

Another wholesome tale!

“I flew from ANC to LAX and tend to get travel sick. We were on our way to Disneyland and drove through Compton for some reason and I knew I was going to be sick so we stopped at a McD’s so I could puke. There was a group of super sweet black ladies in the bathroom who held my hair while I projectile vomited. Wasn’t a crazy experience or anything but definitely the most interesting thing that happened in a McDonald’s.”—CatherineConstance

4. “My Ticket Came Out to be $6.66…”

One Reddit user left with some blessings.

“No joke, my ticket came out to be $6.66 and immediately the cashier was like “May God Bless You…’”—YoKris

3. “Someone Found a Hair…”

This is actually sweet.

“When I was in high school, my friends and I used to go to McDonald’s and order a bunch of large fries, then dump them all together on a tray and go to town. Well, once we were about 3/4 of the way through a Fry Tray (TM) and someone found a hair. So they replaced the entire order with a new one”—DenL4242

2. “My Mom Tried to Get Me Out…”

You’ve got to game the system!

“When I was about 4 or 5 years old the playpen was temporarily closed. I was small enough to fit between the bars and had the whole thing to myself for like 3 minutes while my mom tried to get me out. Was eventually asked to leave. Worth it, though.”—ThatAtheistGirl

1. “Oops! I Got in The Wrong Car!”

McDonald’s is strange indeed.

“My wife and I were coming out of a McDonald’s and walking toward our car. As I approached it my driver’s side opened and an elderly lady climbed out holding 2 iced coffees. My wife and I just stared at her and she said: “oops I got in the wrong car” she then walked to her car 2 spaces away that looked nothing like my car. We busted up laughing at her and might have made her feel bad. It was just so funny.” —clearedasfiled

Thankfully everyone made it safely out of McDonald’s. You can read more stories on the original Reddit thread. If you’ve had an intense McDonald’s experience, we’d certainly enjoy knowing about it. Comment below if you wish!
