This Viral Math Trick Has Everyone Wondering “How Did I Never Learn This??!”
For those of you who constantly struggle with math, take heart: this simple trick has been making the rounds on the internet, and it makes it insanely easy to calculate percentages.
Most of us use calculators now to do things like percentages, and if I asked you to do 4% of 75 in your head, you’d probably just keep scrolling until I told you the answer. According to Ben here, though, there’s a super easy way to simplify percentages.
Not my way of going like, okay I can do 10% and 1% so maybe just do halfway between that minus a bit and voila 4%-ish!
No. “Maths whizz” Ben Stephens can help you get the actual answer, so hold onto your seats.
The answer is 3 – which is a lot easier when you’re trying to get 75% of 4 rather than 4% of 75.
Yes.
“18% of 50 feels hard to calculate,” Ben wrote. “But 50% of 18 is a doddle, right?”
Because both answers are 9.
Truly.
While there were a few mathematicians out there living up to their reputations…
Most people were thrilled and amazed and all of the proper responses to such a trick.
This sounds like something everyone should ideally have known in high school but I’m today years old when I realized I can’t think in even basic math

It is a rational equation, but not having thought about it in the first place…well let’s say I don’t feel as the most clever person in the room right now.

Did you know how to do this? I sure didn’t, and now I feel like a maths whizz too!
Or a math whizz, as we say here in the States.
Either way.

Physics Professor Wrecks Flat Earthers Using Simple Math
I am constantly amazed by the whole flat earther movement. Even though there’s a truly staggering (like multiple centuries’ worth) amount of scientific data proving without a doubt that the Earth is round, they still keep insisting that it’s flat. What century is this?
A physics professor at the University of Porto in Portugal named Pedro Teles was obviously fed up with this nonsense so he took to Imgur to put these flat earthers in their place.
This is how Professor Teles began.
Now pay attention and try to keep up…
That’s right! Clockwise! Now on to the North Pole!
You have to reproduce the same experiment, flat earther…and pay attention to that pendulum.
You’re not done yet!
And here’s the proof, friends.
Nice work, professor! Now, I understand if you need to go back and read this again.
But remember the most important part of this experiment…forward this to everyone in your life who believes the earth is flat!
Thank you in advance.

Shakuntala Devi, also known…
Shakuntala Devi, also known as the human computer, gave the 23rd root of a 201 digit number in 50 seconds. The answer(546,372,891) was verified at the US Bureau of Standards by the UNIVAC 1101 computer, for which a special program had to be written to perform such a large calculation.
This Twitter Thread Explains EXACTLY Why the Imperial Measurement System Makes NO Sense
The metric system vs. the imperial system is a debate that’s been raging forever. Not that it makes any sense since metric is clearly better. The metric system is logical and very easy to use. The imperial system, which is used pretty much just in America at this point, is not. It’s a confusing system that’s really hard to make calculations and conversions with.
Twitter user @innesmck recently discovered this fact, to his absolute horror… and he did NOT hold back on his feelings!
Sensibly, he digs a bit further into the magic of the imperial system.
I guess 14 and 16 are both even? I don’t know. I didn’t come up with this system.
He continues his decline into chaos.
Even his mother betrayed him.
And cups nearly end him.
It’s a conspiracy.
Now, it’s time for existential questions.
He’s clearly become unhinged.
And, of course, someone has to have fun with poor Innes.
He’s finally lost it.
I haven’t even heard of this one.
And here we leave Innes, a broken man.
Should we tell him about miles? Nah.

People with poor mathematical skills aren’t necessarily bad at math because they are ‘ungifted’. There is a phenomena called ‘Math Anxiety’ that makes people perform worse, which sometimes leads to math avoidance, which leads to lesser knowledge and consequently more Math anxiety. 00

Mathematician John Edmund Kerrich passed his time in Nazi captivity by flipping a coin 10,000 times. The total percentage of heads and tails flips varied wildly at first but gradually converged around 50/50, providing a demonstration of the Law of Large Numbers. 00
