This Woman Refuses to Go to a Wedding Because Her Husband Isn’t Welcome. Is She Wrong?

This sounds like a pretty sticky situation, if you ask me…

What happens when you invite someone but don’t invite their spouse?

A woman shared her story on Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?” to see if she overreacted about her husband not getting invited to a wedding.

Let’s take a look.

AITA for refusing to attend a wedding when my husband is not welcome there?

“My (30f) friend (31f) is getting married in August. She invited me and my husband to the wedding already in October when she got engaged. I was asked to be her maid of honor.

She didn’t have the date immediately as she wasn’t sure how it will be with COVID and now she has the date and she told me she thinks it would be better if my husband didn’t come.

I asked her why and she didn’t want to tell me at first but then she said it is because he is shorten then me and it would look weird on pictures. He has around 165 cm (5 feet 4.961 inches) while I have 166cm (5 feet 5.354 inches). I think the difference is not that big and I offered I wouldn’t wear heels but she said I must wear them cause I am the maid of honor and bridesmaid will wear heels as well.

I said that if my husband is not invited because of his hight I am not coming to her wedding. She said that the day is about her and not about me and my husband and I should respect her wishes about her day. She said that she counts with me as with the maid of honor and I can’t do this to her. I told her she is being shallow and that it is either me and my husband or none of us.

I talk about it with my husband and he think I am not the a**hole and actually would think it would be bad of me to agree with my friend, however he doesn’t like her that much (she doesn’t know that so it couldn’t play a role in it). So I am not sure if his opinion is really objective.

I asked my friend and she said I am the as**hole cause it is just one day and it is about the bride so I shouldn’t make a drama out of it. So perhaps I am the a**hole because I am focusing on me being there with my husband and not at what the bride wants?”

Now it’s time to see how folks on Reddit responded.

This person said that the woman is not a jerk and that she and her husband are in the right in this situation.

Another Reddit user made it plain and simple: this woman needs to get some new friends.

This individual remarked that it’s not like the man can control his height and that he (and his wife) should be livid.

Lastly, this reader said that, at the end of the day, this woman is not acting like a jerk and she’s actually standing up to a bully. I agree!

What do you think about how this woman behaved?

Was she out of line or justified in her actions?

I’ve done quite a bit of video production work in the past, and some of that has been creating wedding videos.

When my associates and I would take those projects, we really went above and beyond to stitch together something memorable for the clients. We took special care to customize and ensure a high quality of product.

And you know what? It was a huge waste of time.

Because nobody. Ever. Watches. Their. Wedding video.

For weddings, pictures are still where it’s at. The photos are the things that get revisited, and that last. For better, or, as these Reddit posts demonstrate, for worse.

Ah, the wedding day. A magical time for you and your spouse, the day you’ll never forget.

No matter how hard you might try.

It is a day frequently immortalized by photographs, often very expensive ones, but some caught off-the-cuff. Of the endless supply that’s out there, though, only a few rise to the top to become internet legends that get spread far and wide to the rest of us.

Here are some of those, thanks to Imgur/Reddit.

What’s the Craziest Thing Your Ex Did After Your Divorce? Here’s What People Had to Say.

We’ve all had one. And some people have had quite a few…

I’m talking about crazy exes who go off the deep end after a breakup and make your life a living hell.

You just gotta ride it out and hope that things don’t spin off into Fatal Attraction territory, you know what I’m saying?

What’s the craziest thing an ex did after a divorce?

AskReddit users shared their stories.

1. Thief!

“My ex stole a car and did 18 months in state prison.

Based on what I was able to find online at the time, he approached a car dealership and showed interest in buying a vehicle. They allowed him to take it home for a 24 hour demo. He never returned it.

They reported it stolen after they attempted multiple times to contact him to return it. They then contacted the state police who put a BOLO out. They found him driving the vehicle on the other side of the state where he thought he wouldn’t be found.

I found out when I got an unexpected phone call from the sheriff’s office. I asked why they were calling me about this. They said my ex I told them I would vouch for him as a “character witness”.

I told the officer over the phone that my ex was a lying sack of s**t and shouldn’t be trusted. The officer laughed, thanked me for my time and hung up.”

2. A real jerk.

“Completely ignored our three children for the last ten years while living with a woman and her three children.

Did I mention, our oldest is HIS from a previous relationship, who I was awarded custody of, and he is her only living biological parent?!”

3. That’s weird.

“My favorite was his sister sent a Facebook message to all of his contacts the day of our separation (including my family).

Before we announced anything, her message stated everyone should immediately delete me and if I said anything about why we separated I was lying and not to listen.

Basically this created a lot of curious questions and a lot of laughs.”

4. Ouch.

“My ex-wife told me I could leave my stuff in our house while I found somewhere else to stay.

I assumed this was a good-will effort to keep things as amicable as possible between us. When I went to get my stuff she had burned all of it.

So that was rough.”

5. Dangerous.

“She removed the retaining clips for my windshield wipers, but put the wipers back on the arms.

First storm after I got my car back from her, driver side wiper flew off the car on Interstate 40.

Good times.”

6. Oh, boy…

“She called my company, talked her way up the chain to the president of the company (still don’t know how she managed that, but she’s smart) and told him I was suicidal and had threatened to “do something drastic” at work…

Later I learned that she thought this would be a roundabout way of getting my address which I didn’t share with her after I moved out because she’s bats**t crazy.”

7. Petty.

“When I told my ex-husband I wanted a divorce, the next day after I went to work he packed our entire house into a uHaul and put it in storage. Even with a court order he refused to give my stuff back. I left my marriage with the clothes on my back.

Years later he decided he was above the courts because he got away with that and took our son across country telling me he was moving with one day notice and told me I couldn’t do anything about it. Of course I promptly hired a lawyer and we went back to court and he lost joint custody but it took a year of fighting, chasing him down, and not seeing my son.

There are more stories but those are probably the worst.”

8. Horrible.

“Ki**ed or Euthanize our dog, then lied about that he d**d of natural causes.

Given the dog was old and blind, but she pleaded that she wanted a weekend with him, and then the next night sent me a fake text that he passed away during the night at like 3 am because he coughed and then just stopped breathing.

That s**t wasn’t true, I found out later after finding and calling the vet she brought him to, that she bad mouthed me about and that he was suffering and needed to be put to sleep because he was in agony and I was supposedly letting him suffer.

She had him out to sleep like the day she took him home, like 3 hours afterwards. Never got to say goodbye due to that b**ch.”

9. Jeez.

“Called me and pretended he had been hit by a car while we were talking.

He even tried to voice the crowd that had gathered around his “body.” God-awful acting, but pretty funny listening to him try to mimic a woman’s voice. Points for trying to be inclusive, I guess.

I think he was trying to get me to re-live my trauma of being on the phone with a friend who actually HAD been hit by a car while we were talking. Too bad he didn’t realize that hearing the real thing is worlds different than hearing a dumb**s try to act it out.”

10. Put it in writing.

“After he realized I was never going back, he told his mom that I had been stealing from the family the whole time we were together.

Then he literally put it in writing that I had a key to his parents’ home and would sneak in and take his dad’s guns and his grandmother’s jewelry, and that he had been powerless to stop me.

It was always his druggie sister. Always. Anyone with eyes could see it, but no one in the family wanted to believe it.”

11. That’s weird.

“My ex husband started dating his step mom who has been in his life since he was 11 years old.

His step mom and him are still together almost 5 years later. His step mom confessed her love of my ex to his dad a few years ago and they have since divorced. The dad is now dating a 21 year old.

I know all of this because I’m still close friends with my ex husbands sister.

It’s so messed up and I’m so grateful I left him when I did.”

12. Wow.

“Kidnapped the kids during their weekend visit and moved to a small town in the next state over. It took me 2 years to get them back.

She eventually burned all her bridges in the town she moved to and went home to her parents house. Since her parents were not pleased with her choices and were on my side during the whole deal they called me to let me know where she was. I went and got them.

This was over 20 years ago and they have both grown up just fine. I’ve since remarried and my 2nd wife has been a wonderful mother to them.

It took a lot of work to fix all the damage but it’s mostly ok. The biggest scars that lasted was that my son has a distrust of women with authority (that he has worked really hard to get over) and my daughter was afraid to start her own family because she worries she would turn out just like her mom.

She finally got over that and is expecting our first grand baby this fall.”

Weirdly Gross Things That Couples Do For Each Other

When people discuss intimacy in a relationship, they’re usually referring to the steamy, sensual stuff. Which is weird, because the truth is, most of the intimacy that comes along with getting close to someone isn’t hot at all. A lot of it is just plain gross.

Because getting close to someone – warts and all – involves stuff like, yanno, warts. And oddly, you begin not to mind. Because that’s love. That’s real love. That’s the kind of intimacy nobody’s searching for, but that they all find eventually.

And then you take to the internet to tell strangers about it anonymously.

Warning: if you’re queasy, some of this is genuinely gag-worthy.

This Guy Made His Wife Choose Between Him and Her Best Friend. Is He a Jerk?

If you’re in a relationship, you know that there are certain people who can make your life…challenging.

And a man found himself in a complicated situation when he demanded that his own wife choose between him and her best friend.

Talk about picking a side, huh?

Read on to see what happened.

AITA For making my wife choose between me and her best friend?

“I (M 36) am preparing for my upcoming surgery at the end of May.

I have respiratory condition that I have been suffering from and my wife has been very supportive and accommodating of all my needs. She has endured so much by shouldering this burden with me and I can never describe how much supportive she’s been with everything that has been going on with me.

The problem is that her best friend’s wedding is at the end of may, specifically on the 27th and my surgery takes place the exact same date. Now 27th was not the original date of her friend’s wedding it was supposed to be on may 18th but got changed. Her friend informed us about it on short notice. And my wife wanted to go but it’s a 8_hour trip since the wedding will be held in the groom’s hometown.

My wife and I discussed this, and I bluntly told her I needed her there for my surgery. She told me that that’s her best friend and this will hopefully be her only wedding and she wanted to attend.

She asked if I could get a friend as my support but I just didn’t think this was right I was even puzzled that she asked me to get a substitute while she goes to her friend’s wedding. I asked if her friend’s wedding was more important than my health.

She argued that there was nothing wrong with it and I won’t need her since the medical team will take care of me. Then She said that by refusing I was making her choose betwen me and her best friend. We went back n’ forth on this argument and she insisted she wants to attend her friend’s wedding.

I told her she was being unreasonable and I never expected her to prioritize a wedding over my health. She loudly yelled “what do you want me to do?, I might lose my friend over this” then stopped talking to me.

I think I handled this badly and acted in ungrateful manner but I think she’s the one who doesn’t understand the difference since my surgery is an emergency and if her best friend is a good friend then she’d understand, right?.

So am I wrong for what I said?”

Now it’s time to take a look at what Reddit users think of this story.

This reader said that the wife needs to be there for him during his surgery. No questions asked.

Another reader said not only would she not be there, but she’d also be really far away.

Unacceptable!

This individual posed a good question: how would the wife even be able to enjoy herself if she knew her husband was going through that kind of surgery?

Finally, this person had a different take and said that the wife has been through a lot and that no one is an a**hole in this situation.

Is This Woman Wrong for Not Giving Her Late Wife’s Ring Back to Her Family? Here’s What People Said.

I think that I’d be pretty eager to honor a friend or family member’s wishes after they passed away…even if it meant there would be some conflict…

And that’s exactly the situation a guy who shared his story on Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?” page finds himself in after honoring his late wife’s wishes.

Let’s take a look to see what transpired.

AITA for refusing to return my late wife’s ring to the family”

“I (F30) married my wife (F36) a year ago.

We had been together 6 years, married for 1 before she passed away. It has been a really rocky time for me and I am still struggling but getting there, day by day.

My wife had been close with her grandmother when she was growing up and when she passed away her grandmother left a beautiful ring which had been in the family for generations. My wife used this ring to propose to me and it also became my wedding ring.

I have worn it everyday since she gave it to me, and it is truly my most precious item from her. It feels like she is with me always and when I look at it, it brings my heart some happiness to remember our time together. My wife even spent money on the ring to get it restored as it had a few cosmetic faults, but by doing this it more or less doubled the value too.

It is very unique and shaped like a snake with a diamond in its head and rubies for the eyes, the diamond was cracked and the blue enamel needed repairing which she did before proposing.

My BIL has now decided to propose to his girlfriend and he wants to use the snake ring as their grandmother wanted the ring to be used as an engagement ring for when one of her grandchildren wanted to marry, a first come first serve situation, although, it was never really expected her granddaughter would be doing the proposing it was always assumed the boys would offer it to their gfs but my wife got there and did it first and that was that.

It was never really questioned either as my wife and she had been so close too. Nobody had any objections at the time as the ring was still within the family and neither of my BILs were anywhere near getting engaged.

I refused to give the ring back and now I have caused a huge rift with my family in law. My MIL and BILs are all calling me an AH as they want the ring to continue being part of their family and to be passed down in the generations as it was expected to.

I am distraught, my wife and I were not big sentimental gift givers and this is honestly the only thing she was truly proud to gift me, it was a huge deal for us and meant the world to both of us.

My family in law have also thrown in my face that the grandmother wouldn’t even have wanted me to have it since she was Russian and would very much be against a same s** couple.

This really hurts and feels like a low blow as although it’s definitely true I was accepted my my family in law. The grandmother had long been gone before I met my wife. They are now saying that it should go to the boys as she intended.

It’s all got really nasty and I just don’t know what to do. The family have even offered to buy the ring off me for the full value of the ring with the repairs but I refuse. It is the only thing I have of my wife and parting with it feels like the only piece I have left of my broken heart being taken away.

AITA?”

Wow…what a story.

Now let’s take a look at how folks on Reddit reacted.

This person said that widows aren’t expected to return their rings. Plain and simple.

Another reader argued that the family is acting horribly in this situation and that the woman who wrote the post is, at the end of the day, the rightful owner of the ring whether they like it or not.

Another Reddit user said that the woman’s late wife would undoubtedly be ashamed of her family for acting this way.

And lastly, this reader said that the woman’s family is actually dishonoring their late daughter with their behavior.

I think I agree…

10 People Share the Worst Marriage Advice They Ever Got

It seems like when you get married, or are even thinking of getting married, people fall all over themselves to try to give you advice about it…

…especially if you didn’t ask.

And unsurprisingly, a lot of it turns out to be bad.

A ton of people chimed in after this prompt on Twitter. Let’s see what “words of wisdom” really aren’t.

10. Hard work

Isn’t this supposed to be like, an enjoyable part of my life?
Why should I expect it to be so miserable?

9. The good fight

Believe it or not there are ways to communicate that don’t involve constant quarreling.

8. Sexpectations

Believe it or not there are other things.

7. You are his

In a romantic sense, sure, in an ownership sense, nope nope nope nope nope.

6. The conversion rate

I guess it probably depends on how seriously you each take your faith.

5. Don’t get comfy

So you want me to spend the rest of my life uncomfortable?

4. You’ll always wonder

Yeah, this seems like a sad justification.

3. Happy wife, happy life

This mentality has always sort of reeked of “marriage is all about running around trying to make sure your wife isn’t angry” and painted, for me, a pretty grim picture of the idea.

2. Just kidding

Pretty absurd and insulting.

1. Hit the joint

Some couples find that keeping general finances separate saves them a lot of headaches.

So, if you want some good marriage advice, maybe just follow the opposite of all that.
