This Comic Brilliantly Explains Why It’s OK For Some Women Not to Want Kids

We all know that becoming a parent is a hugely significant milestone. Creating and then raising your own little human can be intensely rewarding. It’s important to recognize, however, that there’s no such thing as a universal life choice. What might be great for me may be a living hell for someone else, and there’s nothing wrong with either of our choices.

Society likes to put a lot of pressure on people – women, specifically – to have children once they hit a certain age. That’s something that illustrator Kate McDonough has had a lot of experience with, and she decided to outline her feelings in a comic strip for her comic, “Pretty, Pretty, Ugly.”

Being a parent is a massive responsibility, and not everyone is cut out for it. Isn’t it actually more unselfish and responsible to recognize that about yourself and simply opt out of having kids, as opposed to being a terrible parent?

At the end of the day, it all boils down to this: if you want to have kids – great! If you don’t want to have kids – great! There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all lifestyle for ANYONE. Make your life choices based on what’s best for you, as opposed to what anyone else might want you to do.

You Could Make $53k/Year as a Part-Time Nanny… But You Need to Become a Disney Princess

Most of us tend to think of “nanny” as a relatively simple occupation (to the extent that childcare can be “simple”), one that pays your basic expenses but probably wouldn’t make you wealthy.

What if I told you, however, that you could make good money as a nanny – and only part-time at that! Good money to the tune of $53,000 a year… but you’d have to dress like a Disney princess at all times (while on the job).

As many parents will attest to, seeing your kid’s face light up with joy is worth pretty much any price. That’s what these U.K. parents must’ve been thinking when they placed their ad for a Disney princess nanny, because they’re parents to a pair of Disney-obsessed 5-year-old twin girls.

The ad, posted on Childcare.co.uk, reads:

I have a slightly unusual request that I’m hoping someone will be able to help me with!

Myself and my husband are looking for a part-time nanny to care for our twin girls during the week, but we want to hire someone to look after our children whilst in character as a different Disney princess every month, such as Princess Anna, Moana, Rapunzel and Princess Merida.

Like most 5-year-olds, our girls are obsessed with Disney and we feel this would be the best way to communicate some important values. We know this isn’t a normal request for nannies, however we think it would be a great way to teach our girls about things like determination, compassion, fearlessness and ambition from strong yet relatable female role models like Princess Tiana, Princess Anna, Belle and Cinderella.

We are looking for someone who can commit to a character and create a really fun atmosphere in our home, but also won’t be afraid to be a disciplinarian if the twins are naughty or act out – they can be little terrors at times! The right person will have a real creative flare as well as a passion for all things Disney and will be able to share that love of those characters with our girls.

The role involves picking the girls up after school, four days a week, arranging a variety of Disney-related activities (arts and crafts, baking, singing, etc.), cooking dinner and potentially putting them to bed if we’re late home from work. The job is part-time, but the right nanny must be willing to work around our busy schedules.

Candidates must be looking for a long-term job as we want to keep the successful nanny in the girl’s lives for the foreseeable future.

We’re able to offer around £40,000 a year for the right candidate and will also be covering the hire of each Disney princess costume. You’ll be entitled to 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays, as well as the statutory sick day allocation, however you must be flexible in case of any emergencies. Requirements include having a clean driving licence, first aid training and a minimum 2 years’ experience in nannying or a similar role.

We think a trial shift would work best, so we can see how you interact with our girls and allow us to formally meet before hiring.

Again, we know this isn’t exactly a normal job offer, but we think it’s a great opportunity for someone to get really creative and add a little magic to our girl’s lives! So, if there are any Disney-mad nannies out there who’d be able to help us out, please get in touch.

Honestly, it sounds like a pretty sweet gig, especially since the family will even foot the bill for the costumes you’d need! If the requirement weren’t specifically for a princess, I’d consider it myself!

Deceptively Cute Kitty Waits Outside Cafe to Trick People into Letting Him Inside

Animals do the funniest things sometimes. Anyone who has pets or even spent an extended amount of time with someone else’s pets will attest to the fact that they have distinct personalities. Some of them are total sweethearts, while others are naughty little scamps.

Twitter user David Fucillo recently spotted a cat that falls into the latter category. He came upon the creature standing outside a cafe during a trip to New Orleans. The cat looked despondent and lost, like he probably needed to be let into that cafe. See?

“A woman was working inside so we knocked and pointed to the cat, asking if she belonged inside there,” David wrote on Twitter.

“The woman pointed to the sign which was to the left of the door.”

WOW. The cat is a Liar with a capital L.

Are you thinking “that is crazy I’ve never heard of a cat pretending to be hungry ever in my life”? Well, prepare to have your mind blown.

This is a thing.

Like a really common thing. Those greedy cats.

Anywho, the cafe liar’s name is apparently Squeak. She is “absolutely adored,” the owners of the cafe wrote on Twitter.

“Her owners have multiple cats, but Squeak is not a big fan of other cats. She likes people. In particular, she likes people who pet her.”

Clearly.

Cat, you are 100% forgiven for lying. Come here!!!

Internet Roasts Anti-Vaxxer Dad Asking for Advice on Building “Outside Bedroom” for 2-Year-Old,

Oh, anti-vaxxers. There are tons and tons of real, peer-reviewed, scientifically validated evidence showing how much good vaccines do. There is also all the evidence there is no link between vaccines and autism. Despite that, anti-vaxxers will keep insisting that vaccines are the devil, an opinion they’ve based on information gleaned from memes and health blogs.

Naturally, choosing not to vaccinate your child is your right as a parent. But unfortunately diseases couldn’t care less about your personal autonomy, and skipping vaccines is a decision that puts you child and others (such as those too sick/young to be vaccinated) at serious risk of infection. That’s why whenever an anti-vaxxer parent tries to justify their choice online, other parents are pretty quick to roast them.

That’s what happened to this parent, who apparently wanted to create an “outside bedroom” for their unvaccinated child…

Here’s what they wrote:

The weather is getting nicer. My son, Jericho (not vaccinated), never wants to make it in by curfew. I am planning on moving his bedroom outside. I’m not looking for this post to turn into a debate, REBECCA. Just looking for recommendations for outdoor furniture for 2 year old boys room. His favorite color is yellow.

The internet being what it is, it wasn’t long before the roasting began.

When the Airline Wouldn’t Let Him Board with It, This Australian Man Checked a Single Can of Beer as Luggage

Air travel has gotten pretty rough over the years, and they’ve really taken a beating (or given one, rather) in the way they treat customers. Let’s just call a spade a spade, y’all: They’re dicks.

But out of the frustrated masses, every so often a hero emerges to light the way forward. The latest incident? Refusing to let a gentleman bring his beer onto the plane with him.

Passenger Dean Stinson was on his way to Perth, Australia via Qantas Flight QF777 when was told he couldn’t bring his can of Emu Export lager, so he hatched a rather hilarious plan: he checked his beer as luggage!

According to News AU:

The beer was tagged and sent off to be loaded onto the plane with the rest of the baggage, which the Melbourne ground staff happily did — but not until they had snapped a few pictures of the unusual check-in item.

Incredibly, the beer actually made it to its destination and apparently was the first thing to come out at the baggage claim – proving that the baggage handles at Perth clearly have a great sense of humor.

Sure, it might be all shaken up and skunked from the changes in pressure and temperature that it undoubtedly experienced in the cargo bay, but it’s the principle of the matter. This hero of a man stared the tyranny of modern air travel right in the eye and literally said, “Hold my beer.”

Absolute legend.
