People Share Facts That Could Actually Save Someone’s Life

For most of our younger existence it feels like survival is just a given and life is forever.

But that truth is soon turned into myth when you realize life is fragile and death can be whenever and wherever.

The good news is we can all be capable of saving ourselves and others in any given situation just by acquiring some basic knowledge and necessary facts.

Any knowledge is good knowledge, whether it’s how to fight a crazed gunman with a twig or the heimlich maneuver.

So get your pads and pencils out kids, time to study triage.

Redditor danikm10 wanted to us all to be prepared so they asked:

“What is a little known fact that can save a life?”

Head Above Water At All Times

“You can still drown up to 72 hours after a non-fatal drowning or other aquatic incident via water remaining in your lungs afterwards and causing edema (swelling).”

“Shortness of breath, wheezing or raspy breathing, chest pain are all signs to look for and one should get medically checked out ASAP.”

“Even without any symptoms after a near-drowning/aquatic incident it is highly recommended.”

“Source: science and 10-year Lifeguard/First Aid Instructor Trainer.”  ~ YourFriendlyUncle

It’s still coming for you…

“If a tornado looks like it’s still, it’s moving towards you.” ~ Reddit

“When we stayed in Tx, we had a little rack that held empty pop cans.”

“Usually when a tornado was brewing, the air pressure would be great enough to start crumpling the cans. I found it fascinating.” ~ osirisrebel

“Learned that one that hard way as a kid.”

“My grandma thought it was a regular dust devil until she realized that it wasn’t getting smaller, and it was picking crap up to throw.”  ~ ClancyHabbard

Good catch Sir

“My mom had a dentist appointment a while back. With novocaine still in effect, she headed to the gym for a workout (this was pre-COVID).”

“One of the trainers greeted her, and when she responded with a slightly lopsided smile and slurred speech, he immediately was concerned and asked her to raise both her arms.”

“It took her a second, but then she realized he was thinking she may have been having a stroke.”

“She explained that she’d been to the dentist, and they both got a laugh out of it. But kudos to that trainer.”

“He’s an observant guy, and he might save a life someday.”  ~ Reddit

Be the Spotter!

“That drowning people don’t flail around and scream.”

“This is why there are usually spotters (the guys and girls in the chairs) and rescue (the guys and girls on the shore/around the edge).”

“Spot the person who comes up and goes down rather than the screaming flailing people who are playing.”  ~ ModsAreHallMonitors

“Secondary drowning, or “dry drowning”, is a serious concern for those rescued from a near drowning as well.”

“If it’s believed the victim has taken any water in their lungs at all, they need to be checked out at the hospital.” ~ NorCalShasta

It’s All Elementary my dears…

“Learn the elementary backstroke. It’s a stroke that requires less energy to swim. Lay on your back. Keep your chest inflated to stay afloat.”  ~ Lark_Iron_Cloud

“Just a backfloat will work. I barely learned to swim in high school, but I got the elementary backstroke down and could do a frog kick decently.”

“Plus they were teaching survival swimming/drownproofing. I hope something like that is still around.”  ~ Sirius_J_Moonlight

Bright Colors and Twilight!

“Preferably wear neon orange if going in the woods.”

“Same for all the joggers, bicyclists and walkers-Including your dog- so many people appear as dappled shadows when you’re driving-all times of the day not just in twilight.”

“I’ve had some scary moments avoiding people and oncoming traffic!” ~ pickalelly

“Dude I have some idiots in my neighborhood.”

“Like to go on walks at like 4am/2am/11pm… freaking whenever it’s dark.”

“I’ve almost ran them over 10+ times because they also like to walk in the middle right side or right middle right side of the lane (to far into the street to be safe).”

“And they where black clothes.” ~ oreo_milktinez

Mixing and matching can be a mess…

“Do not mix household chemicals unless you know specifically what the result will be.”

“Specifically do not mix bleach with anything other than water.” ~ surprise_me_today

“My cat peed on the floor on our concrete basement and my dad (not exactly a science major) was like “pour bleach on it”.”

“So I, being 12, did. I poured bleach onto highly distilled ammonia.”

“I stopped being able to breathe, didn’t know why. I closed the bottle and ran upstairs with my lungs absolutely burning my head aching.”

“I closed that door to keep my cat out of it but refused to go back in.”

“When my mom came home I told her about it and she freaked out.”

“I felt really bad like I did something wrong and my mom just yells up the stairs.”

“YOU TRIED TO GAS OUR DAUGHTER YOU DUMB FOOL!!”  ~ LadyCashier

Keep the Mouth Clear!

“Do NOT put anything in the mouth of someone having a seizure.”

“They cannot choke on their own tongue, but they can choke on a wallet, belt, etc.”

“DO turn them on their side, time the seizure, and call 911 (or your local emergency services if not in America).”  ~ phoria

“Also, check to see if they’re wearing a medical ID bracelet or necklace, or if they have anything with an emergency contact number on it. (Some phones have a medical ID feature, for example.)”

“Often times, they won’t need to go to the hospital and ambulances are stupid expensive in America.”

“If possible, call their emergency contact first.”

“The ambulance should be called if there are many seizures in a row, if the seizure lasts for more than 5 minutes.”

“If they are severely injured themselves during the seizure, or if it is the person’s first known seizure.” ~ Violet112358

Survival is Messy!

“CPR is nasty. 2 inches of compression will break ribs and mash the insides of the chest cavity.”

“It feels gross, it sounds gross, it looks gross, and it’s freaking HARD.”

“There is no way to comfortably give CPR.” ~ Reddit

No Pulling!

“If you get stabbed by something don’t pull it out.” ~ dietderpsy

Well that is a lot to digest.

And a lot to incorporate into my brain. I pray to never have to use any of this.

Being stabbed and drowning haunt my dreams. Of course now I have eight new things to haunt me, but I’m better prepared.

Life is fragile, doesn’t mean we have to be.

People Share Little-Known Survival Tips That Could Save Your Life

In a perfect world, none of us would need to know or use any of the information we’re about to go over.

We don’t live in anything remotely close to a perfect world.

Tragedies happen, accidents occur, life gets heavy. In those moments, the thing that tips the scales might be something as seemingly unimportant as “that random factoid I read on the internet.”

Reddit user GlumExcitement9 asked:

“People of Reddit, what is a surprisingly unknown survival fact that everyone should know?”

So listen, we sincerely hope you never need this stuff.

We hope you never find yourself waiting to be rescued, facing down a person determined to hurt you, or falling off of a ship in the middle of the open ocean.

But just in case …

Whistle While You Wait

“Pack a whistle.”

“There’s no chance your voice will hold out yelling at the top of your lungs, and whistles carry long distances. Especially handy if you’ve injured yourself, and need to rely on others finding you.”

“SOS in Morse code is … – – – …”

“So three short blasts, three longer ones, three short, pause….and repeat.”

“This is an especially handy and harmless device to give kids that are along for a hike (along with, ‘if you get separated, stop walking and blow the whistle lots, and we’ll come to you’).”Bubbafett33

Don’t Climb

“Contractor and someone who has designed quite a few subway and stations here.”

“Here’s something we’re taught during the first day of security clearance classes and this is how we design stations as a standard feature on every new platform being built. Older platforms may not have this or will have some other safety feature.”

“Having said that – many subway platforms have a space big enough for a person to fit under in case they fall onto the subways tracks.”

“So if you fall off the edge of the platform and onto the tracks and there’s a train coming, roll to the side. There’s likely a gap you can fit in.”

“It might be tight, and you’ll certainly get dirty, but better than standing up, scrambling to try and climb out, and dying.”IndianInferno

“I work for NYCT. There are niches you can stand that are safe if you fall.”

“As long as there isn’t a red and white stripped board, you’re good.”

“Another fatal and idiotic piece of advice I hear a lot is to lie down flat between the running rails. This may work in a few stations and in specific spots in those stations but do not try this!”

“Just look along the wall for niches and flatten yourself against the wall in there. If there’s no wall then stand next to a column and hold onto it with one hand.”

“Then just try to stand flush with the column.”CrankBar

Self Defense Is Cowardly

“My family runs self-defense classes. They include multiple black belts and lawyers.”

“In terms of ‘fights’ – bar brawls, people in the street, muggings, etc.:”

“- If they have a weapon, any weapon, run. Seriously, you will die, no matter how good you think you are or how many test-disarms you’ve done in a dojo.”

“Run like f*ck and be prepared to kill if cornered.”

“We’ve witnessed experienced black-belts hurt themselves with a real knife (after signing disclaimers!) so badly that they were hospitalized when they were JUST SPARRING, not fighting for real.”

“It’s just not worth it.”

“- If the fight is just ‘brewing’, repeatedly announce that you don’t want to fight them (attracts help, shows you’re not trying to one-up them, covers you legally, and doesn’t prepare them if you do fight).”

‘ Say things like ‘Nah, man, I don’t want to fight you. I don’t want to fight you. Look, I don’t want to fight you. Whatever, man, I don’t want to fight. I’m just gonna walk away, alright, I don’t wanna fight you’.”

“- If it’s not immediately life-threatening and you can avoid it, try not to throw the first punch. Again, legal coverage, but also means you’re not the guy who gets into something they didn’t want to.”

“The first punch is the trigger for everything to kick off. Up until that point you can still defuse everything back to harsh words and idle threats.”

“Once a punch is thrown, someone’s getting really hurt and you literally have no idea if the other guy is more experienced or better at it that you. No matter who you are.”

“However, you can *react* to anything that appears to come towards you perfectly legitimately… if he’s “faking out” a punch, you have no idea of that but can act as if it was real.”

“- If you’re surprised, ‘attacked’, etc… without warning… it’s no holds barred.”

“Literally, who cares about his eyesight, his future fatherhood prospects, whether his kneecaps will ever work again or if he can breathe.”

“You can’t afford to end up on the floor, be incapacitated yourself, stunned, reeling, unconscious, for him to summon aid, or even just to fall to the ground awkwardly.”

“And YES, that guy could stab you and you wouldn’t know until after he walked away, things are really that quick!”

“Your brain doesn’t notice some subtle movements, your body won’t scream out in pain because of the adrenaline, and someone who knows what they’re doing will not attract attention to the weapon until it’s in you, etc…”

“You can’t take that risk.”

“Once it gets physical, don’t stop until you’re sure he’s not able to harm you, and then run away anyway for good measure (legal hint: report to the police at the first opportunity, don’t wait).”

“Once they have shown they have an intention to hurt you, and they’ve started to act on it – nothing is out of line.”

“And to quote the legal people in our clubs who were always asked the questions: If you feel your life is genuinely in danger, you can do almost anything to protect it until the point it’s no longer in danger. Worry about the legalities later.”

“But if your life is in danger, you would act to protect.”

“Going back in for another kick, or using a weapon when he’s already down and you could run, or anything else? Yeah, that’s not self-defense.”

“You’re not *defending* yourself by walking back into a fight you could have easily escaped.”

“Victims who ‘just tried to punch him once, but he punched back, so I shot him’ are also often harder to take seriously for self-defense than ‘he was three times my size, I was on my own, he attacked, I was in a struggle for my life at that point’.”

“That’s especially true if they were heard trying to stop the fight from happening, ran away immediately when they could, and called the police as they ran.”

“You can also act in defense of others, but again – you are defending. You’re giving them time to run away – wife, child, friend, whoever.”

“If there’s a threat, that’s what you’re giving them; the opportunity to escape the threat.”

“But there’s literally nothing wrong with breaking the guy’s knee as your first action (kick it so it goes sideways) – in fact, from a self-defense point of view, it’s perfectly legitimate. It’s a perfect way to prevent pursuit and allow you to escape.”

“Self-defense is cowardly, at its heart.”

“Do everything you can to capitulate, avoid the fight, etc… but if it escalates, take the quickest, most effective way to incapacitate them and then run away.” ledow

You Vs. The Ocean

“If you are ever caught in a rip current, swim perpendicular to it. If you swim into it, you will die.”

“If you let it carry you out to sea and aren’t a strong swimmer, you will die.”[Reddit]

“I’ve been caught in a rip current. This advice is incredibly useful to know, because without it you’re also going to panic real hard when swimming towards the shore doesn’t work.”homarjr

“I was caught in one, too, during my freshman year of college. I almost died.”

“I would have if it weren’t for my friend, who was a lifeguard, that was nearby. I tried the whole swimming parallel to the beach method, but what everyone conveniently forgets to mention is that you STILL have to swim back to shore.”

“This task is seriously exhausting. If you’re not VERY in shape, you’re pretty much f*cked if you’re caught in a rip current with no one out there to help rescue you.”enginerd12

“Been a sailing merchant for 12 years. If you ever fall off a ship/ferry at sea and you’re lucky enough to be spotted – don’t try to swim your way to safety. The ocean will win.”

“The more you try to swim, the lesser your chances of survival. Just try to keep afloat and conserve energy (and body heat) while rescue team do what they’re supposed to.”

“Unless you are in hypothermic waters, the best bet always is to stay afloat without trying to swim to somewhere.”trendz19

Snakebite Position

“Lead the pack if you’re scared of snakes. You’ll disturb them but the person behind you is more likely to get bitten.”knittingtaco

“Mountain biker from southern Arizona here.”

“In the summer, we trail ride at night to avoid the heat. When on single track, whoever is behind the guy in front is in ‘snakebite’ position.”

“We’ve all at one time or another had to bunnyhop a rattlesnake”tucsonyeti

The Star

“Elevator stuff: The STAR symbol on the elevator panel indicates the floor that is the most direct route to outside. It’s not always the first floor.”AtopMountEmotion

Leave It To The Professionals

“Don’t f*ck with garage door springs.”SpitefulShrimp

“Used to work on commercial and residential doors and openers. Seen a broken spring go through a cinderblock wall.”

“The main thing to look for are the red bolts.(assuming the door was installed correctly.) Those are the ones holding tension on the springs/lines.”

“Screw with something else you might break it. Screw with the reds they might break you.”ThePrevailer

“THIS is what almost killed me!”

“I was trying to fix a gap in my garage door a couple of years ago and started to unscrew a couple of bolts with the door closed.”

“One of them flew right by my face. I almost pissed my pants and couldn’t sleep that night just thinking about how I almost won a Darwin award.”Lapare

Sure, some of this is stuff we’re not really likely to use, but how many elevators have you been in.

Did you know what that star was for?

Had you even noticed it?

Exactly.

Simple Life Hacks That Everyone Should Know

The most effective solutions to everyday speed bumps are often the simplest. It’s almost elegant, sometimes, how one person can come up with a way to streamline a small annoyance with a hack the rest of us have missed.

If you want to be the most prepared you can be for any ol’ situation, you need to have these 23 life hacks in your back pocket.

23. It’ll save you a trip back inside later.

In a similar vein, I will say it out loud when I turn stove burners off, unplug my hair straightener etc…

I’ve found this helps me eliminate those moments where I leave the house or am in bed and I’m suddenly like “Did I leave that on?”

22. Don’t expect other people to do their research.

Google it first.

21. You only get one set of teeth!

Brush your teeth more thoroughly before bed after you are done eating and drinking for the day.

Morning brushing is important too, but more so for fresh breath; while evening cleaning will prevent bacteria from breeding and damaging your teeth and gums.

20. Too many of us need to do this these days.

Get into a routine of stretching your hip flexors and chest if you sit for long periods.

Absolute game changer for people who suffer with chronic lower back pain as a result of being hunched over a desk.

19. Perfect.

If you want to wear something white/ light in color, wear underwear that matches the color of your skin, not white.

18. It’s never too little.

5 minutes of daily exercise is infinitely better than 0 minutes and will make a big difference.

17. If you want to be tidy…

Train yourself to always keep an eye out for things that need to go in the direction you are going.

If you are about to go downstairs, does any item nearby need to go with you?

Perhaps a cup can be brought to the sink on your way to the bathroom.

16. You’ll never please everyone.

No matter how good a person you are, at some point you will be the bad guy in someone else’s story. You can’t please everyone, and you shouldn’t try to. Be a good person, and have friendships with people you can respect and look up to.

Sometimes you’re the bad guy because you’re trying to be a good person. Like when your best friend of 15 years asks you do to something against your moral compass and you say no and they end the friendship and write a book about it. And you have to be okay with that.

15. We’re not changing our sheets often enough.

Sometimes changing your pillow case daily can help with acne. I use a clean t-shirt over my pillow to accomplish the same effect.

To add to this, a lot of people wash their face when they get up but not before bed. Washing before you sleep will help keep the pillow case cleaner and prevent breakouts. You don’t need to apply a ton of night cream or anything, just a medicated pad with salicylic acid will do. Your body will put moisture back on while you sleep and you’ll wake up with a less oily face. Do your morning routine and make sure to add moisturizer as needed in the morning instead.

Wash your sheets with unscented/sensitive detergent too! The perfumes are sometimes an irritant to the delicate skin on your face.

14. Hack your own mind.

If you have trouble choosing, flip a coin. While you’re waiting to get the result, your mind automatically starts to wish for what it wants. Then you can choose easily.

I’ve been doing this for big life decisions for years. Sometimes I don’t realize what I want, but instead realize it doesn’t matter and I just go with the flip result.

13. I’ve wasted a lot of honey.

Honey does not go bad, if it has gone solid it has just crystallized and can become liquid again with just a little heat.

12. Not everyone is worthy.

Don’t take criticism from someone you wouldn’t take advice from.

11. Just in case.

If you ever fall off a ship/ferry at sea and were lucky enough to be spotted – don’t try to swim your way to safety. The more you try to swim, the lesser the chances of survival. Just try to keep afloat and conserve energy (and body heat) while rescue team do what they’re supposed to. Unless you are in hypothermic waters, the best bet always is to stay afloat without trying to swim to somewhere.

This information about falling overboard, hypothermia and conditions, survival at sea etc are based on my own experience of 12 years sailing on merchant ships like this

10. Take a deep breath and do it.

In a lot of daunting situation, for example asking someone out or standing up for yourself, you only need to be brave for a few seconds to get it over with.

9. Unless you have a pillow top.

Turn your bed mattress when you renew your blanket.

Through time your mattress will deform and that can make you sleep worse.

8. 100% of the time.

If there’s a jar or container you can’t open, run the lid under hot water for a 30sec.

Dry it so you can get a good grip, then open. Never had this not work.

7. It will make you feel better, too.

If you have a spare minute or are just playing video games or on a computer at home, take a few minutes to just pet your dog/ cat and really appreciate them.

A phrase I heard somewhere just really stuck with me: Pets are only a part of your life but you are your pet’s entire life.

6. I am blown away.

Buy anything you’d need in your kitchen from a restaurant supply store. ANY-THING, plates, glasses, pans etc.

There are a few online that sell to consumers. Those $8.99 tongs at a box store are like $1.30. A 16 oz. mason jar glass that sells for $3-$4 a piece can be bought as a 12 pack case for $8.55. Oneida China plates that sell for $345.84 a case for $57.84.

I just bought a 2 foot by 2 foot wooden butchers block cutting board that would have been close to $400 for $55.

Also, this sh%t is built to last years in a commercial kitchen under constant use. It sure as shit can handle your Sunday brunch cooking a$s.

5. It really does make a difference.

Not necessarily a “hack” per se, but learn some basic knife skills, the amount of time you will save chopping vegetables a few times a week (minimum) for the rest of your life far outweighs the amount of time it takes to learn, plus you can use the extra time to keep the kitchen clean and that makes everything less stressful while you’re cooking and makes the cleanup faster as well

4. It does take practice, though.

Most of the time keeping your mouth shut is a great option.

3. That’ll save you some trips up the stairs.

To confirm which circuit breaker is associated to an outlet, plug in an old radio and turn the volume up before you flip the circuit breaker.

2. You have to trick yourself sometimes.

If you put something down temporarily, say out loud “I’ve put the screwdriver by the microwave” or whatever.

This engages many more areas of the brain (particularly the language centres) which creates a richer memory making it less likely you’ll forget where you put it.

1. If you’re not five minutes early, you’re late.

Whenever you have a time to be somewhere, aim to be there 15 minutes early, to allow for ‘time snags’ or for traffic.

People respect punctuality.

I feel like I can conquer the world right now, y’all.

If you’ve got a simple life hack that’s not on this list, tell us what it is down in the comments!

A Girl Shared Her Boyfriend’s Mango Hack and It Went Viral

I’ve only tried to prepare mango a few times. Both times, I had to google what to do with the thing.

I guess it depends where you live, but it seems like everyone struggles just a little over what to do with a mango. That’s why a woman’s TikTok about her boyfriend’s unusual mango hack took social media by storm.

I was taught to cut a sort of grid into the mango and then peel the sin back and scrape the cubes off the skin.

But Katie Feeney’s boyfriend had a different sort of technique.

First, he sliced the mango around the middle, crosswise.

Image credit: Katie Feeney via TikTok

Next, he pried the two sides apart.

Image credit: Katie Feeney via TikTok

As Buzzfeed explained:

Then, he pops out what he calls the “lollipop” center…

Image credit: Katie Feeney via TikTok

After scooping out the inside of each half, he is left with a perfect, delicious mango, ready to eat or cook with.

Image credit: Katie Feeney via TikTok

This method totally blew my mind. Because if you’ve ever eaten a fresh mango, you know how completely frustrating the process of getting that massive seed out of the middle is.

And this guy did it like it was nothing!

A lot of viewers felt the same way.

They really appreciated the clever ingenuity and vowed to try it themselves.

Some even went so far as to describe it as life-altering.

Others, however, were less impressed.

It seems that this is a very common way of preparing a mango in Middle Eastern and Asian cultures.

In fact for some, it was the only way they knew how to eat a mango.

Isn’t it funny how something that seems completely revolutionary to one group of people can be just as mundane to the other?

Take a look at the video, and see what you think for yourself.

People Share Life Hacks for Our Bodies

You should ALWAYS, ALWAYS listen to your friends, family members, and even complete strangers if they offer you advice about your wellness and overall health.

Because we’re all works in progress and there’s nothing wrong with learning some new tricks to help ourselves out.

So, what are some good life hacks for our bodies?

Let’s see how folks on AskReddit answered that question.

1. Give it a shot.

“I put lavender oil in my diffuser and turn it on about 30 min before I got to bed.

Fills my room so that I can fall asleep faster than my 1-2 hour normal. I call it my knockout gas.”

2. Foot massage.

“If you use a standing desk at home, buy a lacrosse/cricket/baseball and roll your feet around on it while you stand.

It’s like a high pressure foot massage”

3. Listen to your body.

“Lots of water and lots of sleep can cure SO many things.

Hydrate and rest.

Second favorite life hack is, when my body says “no,” I listen. I don’t mean a whiny no, like a little kid who just doesn’t feel like it, but an actual full stop Do Not Want.

I don’t argue with that.”

4. Pro tip.

“Take a shot of baking soda in water to immediately stop heartburn.”

5. Cut down on the meat.

“My digestive system operates most efficiently if I cut my meat consumption in half.”

6. Wow.

“Stop eating processed sugar…

Life long meds for anxiety gone within 5-ish days.

My thinking is more crisp.

My ADHD is slightly more manageable now…”

7. Good for you.

“Cold showers.

My ability to handle the cold has greatly improved, can happily walk around outside in shorts and t-shirt while everyone else is in big coats, hats and gloves.

Really good for your mental and physical health too.”

8. Get that outta there.

“If you have something in your eye and can’t get it out, pinch your top eyelid gently and then just pull it down over your eye and it will take care of the issue.”

9. Beat the fatigue.

“Whenever I’m extremely tired, to the point where my eyes are slowly shutting, make yourself strong coffee (or energy drink for those non-coffee drinkers) and take a 15-30 min nap right after.

Helped me pull off some papers due the next day for a class in high school and university.”

10. Do it at night.

“Showering before going to bed is like telling my body “Don’t wake up until you’re fully rested, no matter what”.”

11. I like this!

“Want to get some “automatic exercise?”

Put on a 20lb or heavier weight vest and wear it as you do chores around your home, take a walk outside, etc.

After months of slacking off on exercising, I found that wearing it for a couple of hours a day resulted in toning and loss of a bit of waistline.”

12. Stretch it out!

“Stretching.

That’s all. Do it in the morning.

Doesn’t matter if you do a full on session or just a 1min “all the major areas” type thing (neck, back, legs).

Blood flows better and you feel looser in your skin.”

13. As simple as that.

“Eating well, sleeping enough, and regular exercise make you healthy and strong.

It’s insane how many people just let their health go to complete sh*t and then die years early for no reason.”

Now we want to hear from you.

In the comments, tell us about the hacks you use for your body.

We can’t wait to hear them! Thanks!

Are These Things “Cheap” or Just “Illegal?” People Describe Their Cheapest Achievements.

Twitter user Rubba Band Grant caused a stir on Twitter when he mused out loud about the “cheapest” thing he’d ever done:

As a lot of people were eager to point out, that’s not so much “being cheap” as it is just “stealing tires.” Not that we’re snitches here. We’re gonna give Grant the benefit of the doubt and assume this was made up for entertainment purposes only. And we’ll extend that benefit toward all the Twitter replies that followed which had…dubious legality.

Here’s a few ways people apparently skirt the system to save some cash.

10. Water, water everywhere

This is a perfect example of how you can be clearly deceitful without technically lying.

9. Up close and personal

If you’ve got those kinds of photoshop skills *on a phone* then I’ve got mad respect.

8. Pole vaulting

Oh my God…I’m so tempted…

7. Inspired / expired

You’d think their barcode scanners would be smarter than that.

6. The switch

Well done.

5. What a tool

Walmart will pretty much take anything back, they don’t care.

4. Book ’em

Pretty hard to feel sympathy for either Amazon or the textbook industry.

3. Signed, sealed, delivered

You gotta wonder how often people do this.

2. Free means free!

Seems kind of sad and ridiculous that they wouldn’t just give their employees a free sandwich on their lunch break anyway.

1. Since delivert

Didn’t they have some way to like, check your order though?

We’re not saying we endorse any of these methods. We’re not saying we don’t, either. WE AIN’T SAYIN’ NOTHIN’, YA HEAR?

Do you have a method like this?

Tell us in the comments. We won’t judge.

Very Questionable Ways People “Saved Money”

Almost everybody I know is looking for ways to save a buck here and there. But some of us go to extremes.

Like Rubba Band Grant on Twitter here:

Now, we’re pretty sure that’s just theft…though maybe he was joking? Whatever, we’re not the cops. We’re just invested weirdos who went on to scroll endlessly through the replies and find a bunch of other surprising ways that people *ahem* saved money.

Some of them truly were just “being cheap,” but others…well, again. We’re not the cops.

So let’s just look at the tweets.

10. You are banned

This is like a really low key sequel to Ocean’s 11.

9. Stay on target

Um…yeah this is just theft. Like, three times over.

8. Peak Philly

I wish I had those kinds of skills.

7. The tube

How devilishly clever.

6. Complimentary

Eh, who’s gonna know?

5. Stacks on stacks

I’m sure you looked lovely.

4. Phoney business

If I’m reading this right, I’m pretty sure you’re just describing blackmail.

3. I scream

Hope nobody got fired.

2. Free 99

Again, sure hope nobody got fired.

1. Punching up

That’s a short con I can get behind.

So remember, if you gotta save money, maybe try to like…avoid jail in the process.

Tumblr Users Teach Us All the Adulting Life Hacks That You Should Know

Adulting is hard. Life doesn’t come with an easy-access handbook, so we’re pretty much left to our own devices.

Luckily, we have each other for tips, tricks, and easy fixes. This tumblr user mined the web for solutions, and the internet denizens did not disappoint. Here are some adulting life hacks that you should know to make life a little bit easier.

Sometimes, parents don’t have all the answers. When that happens, we need to turn to other adults for some perspective.

This thread has it all: from navigating family drama to what brand of ketchup is good.

The big lesson here is, there’s a lot to learn. When there’s a lot to learn, there are also a lot of opportunities to make mistakes.

You will make mistakes. Constantly. Sometimes they’ll be small mistakes, like forgetting to use dryer sheets. Other times, they’ll be big mistakes, like putting Dawn in the dishwasher.

Both are okay.

The grandparents trick really does work. Just so you know.

By the way, here’s what happens if you do accidentally put Dawn in the dishwasher.

So yeah, really try not to do that.

Plus, when you do have accomplishments, treat yourself. Life isn’t easy. Any small success is worth a little reward.

Having a cupboard and fridge stocked with the essentials can save you a lot of time, effort, and money when it comes to cooking.

Organization and cleanliness go a long way, too. There’s nothing like the comfort of knowing your bank account won’t be bombarded by bills on the same day, or that the dishes in the dishwasher will ACTUALLY come out clean.

Bleach and other cleaning solutions are necessary, but be careful. They’re still chemicals.

Medications, too, can cause a dilemma. Over-the-counter meds are still drugs, and there are certain things (like alcohol) that they should not be mixed with.

Moreover, there’s a lot more to them than just the brand name.

Remember those generic names, and you can save a whole lot of cash every time you need to stock up.

Let’s face it… You might put Dawn in your dishwasher. You might need to live off of ramen, potatoes, and hot dogs. But there are solutions here.

Plus, here’s how to make the most out of you food supply, get rid of ink and blood stains, and even dissolve superglue.

The beauty of wholesale clubs goes far and wide, my friend.

People Share Facts That Might Save Your Life One Day

You never know when you’re going to be in a situation where your life might be in danger.

That’s why it’s important to LISTEN when people share these kinds of facts and tips about things that could potentially save your life one day.

So sit back and take all of this in, okay?

Pay attention to these tips from folks on AskReddit. They might come in handy one day.

1. This is important.

“Airplane depressurizes and the masks drop?

Put your damn mask on first, as instructed.

At 35,000 feet you have 30-60 seconds of useful consciousness.

Make it count.”

2. Get out as fast as possible.

“Do not delay getting out of a burning building.

The flames are not what will kill you. The smoke will get very thick and toxic very quickly and you will not be able to see the way to get out.”

3. Stay safe out there.

“If you are driving in inclement weather pay attention to truckers, they are often warned ahead of time of wrecks and things due to their radios.

Also never drive in the rain without headlights!!”

4. Keep an eye out.

“Maybe not your life, but someone else’s. Most drowning is silent. The victim quite literally cannot speak to call for help, as they are too desperately trying to get any air at all.

Drowning can look simply like a person bobbing in the water until they no longer come back up. Keep a watch out. Especially if it’s kids.”

5. Get to the hospital ASAP.

“If your vomit look like coffee grounds, you are bleeding internally and you need to go to the hospital.”

6. What’s that smell?

“If you smell a fish smell in your house (some people also report a smell like urine) for no reason, 9 times out of 10 it means there’s an electrical fire.

I actually was the hero in this situation!

Was visiting my sister a number of years back. Hanging out on her couch. Smelled a smell of urine (with a bit of dead fish mixed in) …I asked her what that was. She answered, “it’s been here for weeks. We think a rat or squirrel got trapped in the walls.”

That didn’t sound right to me. a dead animal would smell different.

And for whatever reason, I googled “smells like urine.”

Electrical fire was the first answer.

So, I sniffed all around the room… and found it was coming from the plug of an old lamp. Unplugged it, odor vanished.

Instant hero!”

7. Don’t pull it out.

“If you get impaled or stabbed leave the object in and call 911 (or your country’s equal).

That object is keeping all the blood on the inside of your body.”

8. Sounds terrible.

“If you are ever buried in rubble (earthquake, tornado, building collapse etc).

Don’t shout. You’ll lose your voice and waste energy.

Instead, grab a piece of rubble and knock in patterns of threes. Humans are expert pattern makers and pattern noticers.

Rescuers will hear the distinctive pattern sound and go toward it.

Once you can hear people, then use your voice.”

9. Sadly, you hear about this a lot.

“If someone is in trouble and you want to leap in to save them, make sure you have a way to get out yourself.

I recently saw a video of a drowning man. Another man jumped in to try and save him. Instead both drowned.”

10. This is extremely important.

“If you’re visiting an unfamiliar location like a cinema or concert hall, take a few moments to look around for the nearest exit, then pick out a second as a backup in case the first becomes blocked or cut off.

If something happens, especially in a crowded public place, most people’s first instincts are to turn around and head for the main entrance but this is not always the closest, safest or easiest way out. Nine times out of ten there will usually be a closer exit.”

11. Take shelter.

“If a tornado looks like it isn’t moving, it’s heading right towards you.”

12. Absolutely true.

“There are no rules if a stranger puts their hands on you.

Yell, scream bloody murder, kick, bite, make the biggest scene you possibly can and run away as fast as you can.

Make sure your kids understand that this is the exception, the time they MUST draw as much attention as possible and do ANYTHING it takes to get away and get help.”

13. Always get it checked out.

“Treat all head injuries seriously.

Even a bonk on the head can lead to brain swelling and bleeding. Also, signs and symptoms for a head injury may or may not express immediately.

Get them to a hospital ASAP.”

14. Riptide.

“If you get caught in a current, don’t swim towards the shore and instead swim parallel to the shore.

15. Hopefully, this never happens.

“If you are being shot at, follow Army infantry tactics.

Find any form of cover (car, tree, dirt), and run to it while finding the next cover location

Drop to the ground in your cover location, and don’t raise your head!

Roll left or right so they can’t track your last position, this is very important.

Run to the next cover location while finding your third one. You shouldn’t be running longer than three seconds before the next drop.

I hope you never have to use this.”

16. I didn’t know this…

“If you ever almost drown to the point of throwing up water or passing out, even if you feel 100% fine, get to a hospital.

Your lungs can unwittingly self-fill up with fluid over the next few hours.

Secondary drowning is no joke. More people definitely need to be aware of the dangers!”

17. You have to chew it.

“When having a heart attack, you don’t swallow aspirin, you chew it.”

There is definitely some wisdom in those words…

Okay, now it’s your turn.

In the comments, please share some facts that might just save someone’s life one day.

Please and thank you!
