Oscar Mayer recently announced that they are looking for twelve people to drive their iconic Wienermobiles around the country this year. The job listing reads as follows:

“Have you always dreamed of working with hot dogs? Well, look no further. All of your hot dog dreams just came true. We could say ‘drivers wanted,’ but what we really mean is WIENERMOBILE navigators ready to deliver unlimited joy to thousands of people every single day.”

Damn right you’ll be bringing people joy. Folks see that Wienermobile come around the corner, and they lose their shit. You’ll be A LEGEND wherever you go. The job is a one-year assignment with salary and benefits, during which you’ll be traversing the highways and byways of America in a 27-foot wiener on wheels.

Need I say more?

Those who are chosen to fill these illustrious positions will also attend a two-week training session called “Hot Dog High” where you’ll learn how to drive the Wienermobile, you’ll pick your official Hotdogger name (the possibilities are endless), and you’ll learn the ins and outs of the business.

Has there ever been a more desirable job on this planet? I don’t think so.

I just put my application in…I suggest you do the same, my friends. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2020, so don’t blow it! You can do this! We can do this!

Oscar Meyer Has a Hot Dog Flavored Ice Cream Sandwich

Isn’t it really something when companies take two good things, like hot dogs and ice cream, and combine them into one horrific thing? Introducing the “ice dog sandwich,” a new dessert from none other than Oscar Mayer.

The brand collaborated with Il Laboratorio Del Gelato to create the ice dog sandwich, which consists of hot dog-flavored ice cream, candied hot dog bits (!!!), and spicy dijon mustard gelato, all sandwiched between two cookie “buns.”

Sound disgusting?

Yeah.

Oscar Mayer announced the sandwich on Twitter alongside a poll, and the results were a resounding “no thank you.”

“Please tell me this is a joke,” one user tweeted.

“We don’t joke about hot dogs…or ice cream! It’s artisan crafted in small batches made with candied bits of Oscar Mayer Angus Beef Hot Dogs,” the brand replied. They insist that the sandwich is delicious and “will NOT disappoint,” and to be fair, it’s not entirely unprecedented. Just one day before they announced the ice dog sandwich, French’s debuted yellow mustard ice cream.

Anyway, despite everyone’s protests, Oscar Mayer began selling the sandwiches out of their iconic Wienermobile (a 27-foot hot dog on wheels) in New York City on August 12. They handed out free samples; the sandwich is not available for sale.

For a limited time, those not in New York could slide into Oscar Mayer’s DMs for a sample, but they were flooded with DMs and had to close them.

For most of us, hot dog flavored ice cream will have to remain a distant nightmare.

What’s Really Inside the Hot Dog You’re Eating?

We are in full-blown hot dog season right now. Actually, hot dog season is all year long, but the summer is when we’re all going to cookouts, baseball games, and food trucks to load up on wieners.

But have you ever taken the time to sit back and think about what’s actually in all those hot dogs that you’re stuffing your face with?

All of us have heard the rumors over the years about the disgusting ingredients inside that foot long. But trust me – they may not be the most healthy concoction ever dreamed up, but hot dogs are 100% FDA approved.

So what’s in them? Well, a whole lot of “trimmings”, which are discards of meat cuts leftover at the slaughterhouse (that’s a nice image). Think a lot of fatty tissue, sinewy muscle, meat from an animal’s head, and even the liver sometimes. These trimmings can also contain animal blood, skin, and feet (but it’s all edible). All of these leftovers are cooked to kill bacteria, made into a paste, and then ground up.

It’s also at this point that other ingredients are added for flavor and to help with curing the meat that will one day be a delicious hot dog. After this process, the ground up paste is put into casings and cooked all the way. Then there’s a water rinse, the dogs are removed from the casing, and they’re packaged for all of us to buy. So now you know, and you can put some of the (more) disgusting rumors to rest. Enjoy your summer dogs – I know I will!
