A TikTok User Filmed Her Ride of Space Mountain With the Lights on and People Are Freaked Out

Roller coasters provide park-goers with a rush of adrenaline that keeps them coming back for more. Match that with the magical production value of Disney Parks and you have yourself the vacation of a lifetime.

But what if that magical production value were to disappear? Have you ever considered what it would feel like to ride an indoor roller coater ride without the lights and the music?

This is exactly what happened to TikTok user @ashleyofpeeee when she rode Space Mountain.

Space Mountain is a staple of the Disney World experience.

Having first opened in 1975, Space Mountain is the oldest operating roller coaster in the state of Florida.

You’ll find it located in Tomorrowland, within the Magic Kingdom.

Those who’ve ridden Space Mountain before will know it is an entirely indoor roller coaster, usually experienced in space-like darkness with flashing lights for effect. See the video below for the full ride, lights off.

I’ve ridden Space Mountain once in my life, as a little kid. All I remember is closing my eyes tight the entire time and praying for it to be over as soon as possible.

But riding it with the lights on would be a completely different experience…

@ashleyhopeeeeI FREAKED OUT. The lights were on when we went to space mountain!! 😮 ##MagicMoment ##disneyworld ##spacemountain♬ original sound – disney aesthetic

From her video, we see the tail-end of her Space Mountain experience, with the lights on.

This reveals a web of tracks and scaffolding.

To me, riding Space Mountain with the lights on would be preferable. It would be a lot less scary to know what’s coming, I think, but it looks like I’m in the minority.

But isn’t it interesting to see how the roller coaster is put together?

Isn’t this a treat? Peeking behind the curtain to see the inner workings?

Apparently not.

All the commenters agree that this ride is scarier with the lights ON, but I still think it would be really cool to ride Space Mountain this way.

A few years back, Theme Park University released a video of the full Space Mountain with the lights on.

Can you handle this, or is it too creepy?

Watching this video of Space Mountain with the lights on actually has me itching to ride a roller coaster, and I don’t even really like them.

Getting to see the inner workings of this ride has helped me better appreciate all the hard work that went into creating it. Plus, with the lights on you know when to duck!

Could you handle Space Mountain with the lights on, or is it took unnerving? Let us know in the comments!

Gen Z-ers Are Making Fun of Millennials on TikTok

It just seems to be a fact of life: There will always be feuds between different generations.

Typically, those fights are between older generations, who look down upon or criticize younger generations (see also: Baby Boomers and literally every other younger generation).

But now, Gen Z-ers are getting in on the action and throwing some major shade at Millennials. And of course they’re doing it on TikTok, the most Gen Z platform ever made.

According to researchers, Millennials are people who were born between the years 1981 and 1996. Gen Z, on the other hand, are people born between 1997 and 2012. They grew up in very, very different times, especially as it relates to technology.

It all started with this video from user @wholesam:

@wholesam

Stop bullying millennials! They’re pretty cool

♬ original sound – undergroundish

He made fun of Millennials for using the word “adulting” and for taking coffee breaks. Other people quickly piled on, however.

They took serious issue with Millennial’s love of “Harry Potter:”

They also apparently think Millennials use the word “doggo” too much:

@kavyewest

finally able to jump on the #millennial hate trend 😍 so happy to be here #fyp @wholesam

However, at least one person pointed out that Gen Z threw a hissy fit when Millennials started using TikTok — so I guess this feud goes both ways after all!

Dang, what else will Gen Z-ers take issue with next? Avocado toast? Student loan debt? Living with your parents? Lack of work ethic? Now they’re starting to sound just like the Boomers. You can hardly tell them apart!

Do you agree with the Gen Z assessment of Millennials? Will we ever live to see a time when generations don’t fight with each other?

We’d love to hear your opinions!

‘Harry Potter’ Face Mask Shows the Marauder’s Map When You Breathe

If you’re a “Harry Potter” fan, then you probably know the Marauder’s Map, that magical document that revealed all sorts of hidden passageways and secret compartments at The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and beyond.

Harry received the map from Fred and George Weasley during his third year at Hogwarts and it proved to be a game-changer.

If you’ve always dreamed of having your own Marauder’s Map, you’re in luck. And you can even wear this version on your face.

The face mask starts off as a dusky black color. But once you put it on and start breathing into it, it slowly unveils the Marauder’s Map. So cool!

@coloradopex

The map is the brainchild of Colorado artist Stefanie Hokashou, who works under the brand name Colorado Pony Express. As you might imagine, as soon as she posted this magical map face mask on TikTok, people lost their minds and started scrambling to buy them from her. So, yes, they’re sold out. Hokashou is working furiously to make more, no doubt.

Here’s how the map works. It features nontoxic heat-activated dyes. When the dyes reach 82 degrees, the mask color changes from black to reveal the map.

Hook also makes plush dolls, slimes and custom orders. She’s also into art quilts, cosplay/wearable art and dragons, according to a Facebook group she runs.

She also made some other really cute types of masks:

Just imagine — this artist’s career is likely skyrocketing right now because she created this innovative face mask. People sure love their “Harry Potter” merch!

Have you read the “Harry Potter” books? Watched the movies? Which is better?

14 Pressing Questions People Still Have About ‘Harry Potter’

Even though there are a million sites and threads and discussion boards, and even though the author (J.K. Rowling) is extremely forthcoming and involved with fans and readers on social media, people still have questions about Harry Potter.

And y’all, after reading through these, I gotta say…I now have a few questions, too.

14. That’s true – I can’t imagine the Weasleys keeping that kind of secret!

13. Doesn’t say a lot for the rest of the world.

4. I’ve never been a fan of Slytherin hate.

3. It still remains the spell I would use the most.

2. Maybe he just likes how he looks with glasses.

1. We’ll probably never understand Dumbledore.

I’m not ashamed to be a Potterhead for life, and also I think I love the fact that there are still questions, because that means that, in some small way, the journey isn’t over.

Are you a Harry Potter fan? What would you ask J.K. Rowling if you had her alone in a room for five minutes? What are you dying to know? Share in the comments!

A School in Tennessee Banned ‘Harry Potter’ Books. In 2019.

What year are we living in? Oh, that’s right, it’s 2019…and apparently, some things never change.

A Catholic school in Nashville, Tennessee, has removed J.W. Rowling’s world-famous Harry Potter books from its shelves because the school’s pastor said, “These books present magic as both good and evil, which is not true, but in fact a clever deception. The curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text.”

St. Edward Catholic School pastor Father Dan Reehil wrote an email to parents at the school explaining the decision. Reehil said in the message that he consulted with several exorcists in the U.S. and in Italy before making his decision. That seems like time well spent, doesn’t it?

Rebecca Hammel, the superintendent of schools for the Catholic Diocese of Nashville, said, “Each pastor has canonical authority to make such decisions for his parish school. He’s well within his authority to act in that manner.”

This is not the first time that the Harry Potter series has been under scrutiny from schools. From 2001 until 2003, the series was on the American Library Association’s list of “most challenged books.”

Father Reehil started exploring the possibility of banning the Harry Potter books after he received an inquiry from a parent. I bet that kid thinks his parents are a BLAST.

It’s hard to believe that this kind of thing still happens in 2019, but here we are…

Even if you claim one of the houses of Godric Gryffindor, Salazar Slytherin, Rowena Ravenclaw or Helga Hufflepuff, and you say you have nary a trace of Muggle in your family because you truly are pure-blood, you may find you’ve missed a few of these tiny details.

Let’s see, shall we?

This is talked about in the book, but no one says anything about it in the movie.

5 Fan Theories About Harry Potter That Hit the Nail on the Head

Surprisingly, there was a time when the mysteries in Harry Potter were actually mysteries, and those of us reading (and then watching) along had to actually guess what was what and who was who.

Needless to say, in the end most of us were wrong.

But thanks to hindsight and the fact that J.K. Rowling is pretty available for questions (and sometimes answers) on Twitter, we know that these 5 people’s mystery-solving games were totally on point.

5. Magic is genetic. Usually.

Let’s take a little historical tour of J.K. Rowling’s comments on how one might or might not come to expect a Hogwarts letter on their 11th birthday, shall we?

In 1999, she said that “Nobody knows where magic comes from. It is like any other talent. Sometimes it seems to be inherited, but others are the only ones in their family who have the ability.”

Fans, however, picked up on the obsession some wizards had with “pure blood families,” leaving them to speculate that there had to be some genetic component to the talent.

Then, in 2012, Rowling addressed the issue of Squibs (non-magical people born to magical parents), stating that they’re rare in her world because “magic is a dominant and resilient gene.”

One biology major wrote a six-page paper on how magical ability could be attributed to “a single autosomal dominant gene if it is caused by an expansion of trinucleotide repeats with non-Mendelian ratios of inheritance,” and she’s joined by Duke University professor Eric Spana, who explained Muggle-borns like Lily and Hermione by way of de novo mutations (a genetic lottery).

4. There was more to Harry’s Invisibility Cloak that he knew at first.

Harry loved his invisibility cloak from the start, given that it was a hand-me-down from his deceased father, but at first he – and fans – had no reason to suspect that “exceedingly rare” meant “one-of-a-kind.”

But fans began suspecting there was more to the mysterious garment long before Ron recognized it as a Ignotus Peverell’s Cloak of Invisibility – and one of the Deathly Hallows – in the final book.

3. Harry and Ginny had a good reason for not naming their children after Remus Lupin.

Harry and Ginny’s children’s names honored a number of late and living loved ones, but fans immediately noticed that Remus Lupin was missing. Most were upset, but a few deep thinkers believed that perhaps they were saving Lupin’s name for someone else.

A fact Rowling affirmed, saying on Twitter that “Harry left Remus’s name for Teddy to use for his own son.”

2. The romantic relationship between Grindelwald and Dumbledore.

While most fans’ “ships” (relationships) don’t ever come to fruition on the page or on screen, the teen romance between Grindelwald and Dumbledore didn’t disappoint.

In 2007, Rowling revealed that Dumbledore was both gay and “in love with Grindelwald,” a plot point that has made an appearance-ish in the latest Fantastic Beasts movie.

Oh happy day!

1. That Harry would both die AND live.

One of the most enduring questions of the series became this: would Harry earn the title of The Boy Who Lived a second time, or would he die in order to save the world from Voldemort’s rebirth? The prophecy that stated “either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives” certainly made sacrifice seem unavoidable, but some fans guessed early on that there might be a third option.

Harry does die and cross into the afterlife, but he also returns. The best of both worlds? Maybe!

We nailed it guys, good work all around.

J.K. Rowling Revealed the Hidden Meaning Behind the Hogwarts House Colors

If anything has become 100% clear in the decades following the publication of the Harry Potter books, it’s that author J.K. Rowling didn’t do anything by accident. Her website Pottermore is a testament to how many details are just there waiting to be discovered – outside the already-rich text – so it should come as no surprise for true Potterheads that the house colors were chosen for very specific reasons.

So why did the author choose blue (Ravenclaw), red (Gryffindor), green (Slytherin), and yellow (Hufflepuff) to color the fluttering house banners?

A post shared by Monika (@papaveryna.czyta) on

Well, as she explained on Pottermore, it has to do with the elements.

“The four Hogwarts houses have a loose association with the four elements, and their colors were chosen accordingly.”

So Gryffindor, with its red and gold, is connected with fire while Slytherin’s greens and silvers represent a connection to water. Hufflepuff to earth (yellow and black), with Ravenclaws blues and bronzes connect it to the sky.

Fans, of course, have taken the symbolism even further, and you can find all sorts of expanded theories on mugglenet.com.  One suggested that the gold, silver, bronze represent the order of the points at the end of the first book, with Gryffindor winning the House Cup, Slytherin coming in second, Ravenclaw third. etc.

Another theory is that Hufflepuff’s association with the earth and plants could mean its home to the “stoners” of Hogwarts (which could also explain how they’re always so easy-going and friendly) and mean there’s a second reason the head of house teaches herbology.

Rowling hasn’t commented on anything above and beyond the connection to the elements, but at this point, Hogwarts and its mythology belong as much to popular culture as they do to her – so theorize away, Potterheads!

I’m right there with you.
