This Is How to Successfully Escape from a Corn Maze

Chances are you’ll visit a place that has the dreaded corn maze this fall. A big one, with all the twists and turns…and you might get lost. Without a birds-eye view of the monstrosity, it’s easy to get trapped.

That’s where this trick comes in, provided by Kotaku. Nathan Fouts works in the gaming industry where he creates mazes for a living. Given his experience, his maze-related advice is top notch. He recently visited an Indiana farm, explaining, “With my interest in puzzles and design, I was eager to explore in a real maze. I hadn’t been through a corn maze in many years. But as I crested the hill to overlook the massive, 12 acre field, a tiny worry crept into my mind.”

But he still had to try it.

“We were given a map of the maze, which was reassuring, but, again, following a paper map is a bit trickier than following dynamically updating directions in your car. As we made our way through the maze, full of dead ends, and twists and turns, a new thought dawned on me: We’re safe. If we simply follow the wall. If we always take a right turn, and never change, we’ll get out easily.”

And they did! He used the “wall follower rule” to successfully exit the maze. Per his advice, making turns in the same direction will get you there. It doesn’t matter if you always turn right to follow the wall or always turn left, as long as you turn the same way every time. Just make sure you don’t get confused and veer off course.

Here he provides us with a basic map to illustrate his technique.

“Imagine holding your right hand against the wall. If you happen to find a dead end, turn 180 degrees. Now with your right hand on the other side, exit the dead end, and eventually turn to the right and down a new path.”

Since corn mazes typically start and end on the outside walls of the maze, traveling the “wall” will get you out. Here it is in “action”.

Seems simple enough!

But…there is a catch. Not all mazes are structured like this, meaning not all have parts that are connected to the main frame. You could find yourself in a maze with an island or a bridge that will make you re-think this technique.

“If there are bridges or passovers within the maze, the wall follower method may still work, or may not. It depends on if the bridge deposits you into a maze island, that is separated from the outer wall.”

The most important thing, though, is that the maze has to start and finish at an outside wall for this technique to help you. If the ‘end’ of the maze is somewhere in the middle, then you’re out of luck.

Also, if you’re in a haunted maze, you have to remember to keep following the wall and turning the way you decided even when you’re being chased…which might be tough.

But, honestly, don’t worry if you get lost! Just have fun and enjoy the challenge of finding the exit. If you need to escape, you can always walk through the stalks of corn until you come to a row then follow the row to the end of the field. Good luck!

Enjoy These Halloween Skeletons That Are Posed in a Different Situation Every Day

People celebrate Halloween differently. On one end, you have the folks who barely remember to put out a pumpkin on October 31st, and often it’s not even carved into a Jack-o-lantern! On the other end of the spectrum are the people who turn their home into a haunted house, putting in so much time and effort that spectators travel from miles around just to take a look.

And then, there are Bill and Bob. We don’t know their last names or where they live. All we know is that they take Halloween far more seriously than you or I do.

It starts with a few plastic skeletons. Bob and Bill could easily set up their skeletal decorations in a spooky tableau and call it a day. Instead, they pose them in a completely new situation every day. Their neighbor Sami Campoagnano first noticed Bob and Bill’s handiwork and posted it on Twitter, where it promptly went viral.

The scenes are definitely more funny than scary. Almost all of them involve the skeletons in an everyday mundane situation, which makes it even more absurd. (via Bored Panda)

You Can Try to Survive Against Jason from ‘Friday the 13th’ at This Campground in Arizona

Real talk: I need to get out to Arizona immediately to get in on this action. I’m a horror movie fanatic (and a Friday the 13th fan in particular), and this sounds like a total blast…it also sounds pretty terrifying, so double the fun!

A company in Arizona called On Pins and Needles hosts horror-themed events, including one called F13: Survive Jason that challenges guests to survive a night on a campground with the one and only Jason Voorhees.

Posted by F13: Survive Jason on Saturday, September 14, 2019

The event is described like this:

“F13: Survive Jason is a horror fan’s nerd dream. After watching the series, the question inevitably arises: if I was in this situation, could I survive Jason? We all like to think we can. Avoid the horror movie tropes. Run instead of walk. Don’t investigate that sound in the dark. I decided to put that to the test.

The creation of this game is to let people have the experience of testing their mettle against one of the baddest slashers in the genre, Jason Voorhees. In a safe, real world scenario, players get to step into Camp Crystal Lake and attempt to escape from an unstoppable, unkillable force. If you win, you deserve a prize! If you get caught, well…you’re just another Jason victim.

Hopefully your death is memorable. With a fantastic team working to set up, create, and execute, we hope that everyone who participates has the same thrill that we get.”

Does that sound awesome, or what?

Posted by F13: Survive Jason on Monday, August 5, 2019

The upcoming F13: Survive Jason events are scheduled for November 9, November 16, December 13, and December 21 from 6:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. so you better get going if you want to spend a night trying to outwit (and not get killed by) the legendary Jason.

A Mom’s Horror-Themed Photoshoot Features a Baby Zombie and She Steals the Show

There are your run-of-the-mill family photoshoots and then there are epic photoshoots like this one…especially just in time for Halloween. Tiffany Renfroe is a photographer who decided to put her own family in front of her lens when she enlisted her husband Daniel and her youngest child Oakley for a horror-filled zombie bloodbath photoshoot. Click HERE to check out Renfroe’s photography page.

Renfroe said,

“Daniel and I are very sarcastic, as people, as parents. Life is too short to take everything so seriously. Our babies (Kaiden-10, Gibson-5, Oakley-11 months) are our world. We are active parents that would rather be doing things with them or giving them experiences over gifts or money, although they still are spoiled. Our kids go everywhere with us and are included in everything we do (we live away from family due to jobs).”

Let’s go to the photos, shall we?

Renfroe continued, “Our daughter Kaiden and [Renfroe’s husband Daniel] started watching The Walking Dead, waiting day by day for the next season. It’s their thing. They also watch a lot of classic horror movies, even Gibson at 5. As long as he isn’t violent, I don’t really care, he isn’t scared and isn’t traumatized by them.”

Renfroe added:

“I didn’t particularly want the kids watching horror movies because they would be scared. But they aren’t. They sit there picking out different artistic stuff and laughing at the ridiculous props, makeup, and costumes used in the old classics! It wasn’t hurting them, making them scared, so whatever. It’s us. My kids are sweet and loving, do great in school, are nonviolent, love others, and that’s all that matters to us as parents.”

Here are a few more photos…and a familiar face showed up to make things even creepier…

15 Dogs with Really Impressive Halloween Costumes

What is the only thing better than Halloween? Dogs during Halloween!

I’m gonna go on the record here and say I get much more enjoyment out of seeing dogs in costume than seeing kids. Am I a terrible person? Probably, but I’m learning to deal with it.

Anyway, enough about me and my many psychological problems, let’s see these dogs in costume!

#tbt This Saturday Jensen will be attending his 6th Spooky Pooch Howl-o-ween Celebration at @hillwoodmuseum. Swipe ? to see his costumes to date…⁣ ⁣ Jensen and I look forward to this event every year. He always has so much fun so I really didn't want him to miss it. I got special permission from his vet so he could attend (I just have to get there a few minutes early to get a good parking spot so he doesn't have to walk too far).⁣ ⁣ This contest is the reason I started making Jensen costumes in the first place. That first year we went, in 2014, Jensen had an adorable store bought turtle costume he got from his grandma. I bought orange fleece and made legs cuffs and a belt so he could be Michelangelo the Ninja Turtle (I even tried to teach him to carry nunchucks in his mouth but that didn't work ?). He looked cute but we got killed in the competition – there were so many adorable DIY costumes we just couldn't compete.⁣ ⁣ I vowed then and there to make his costume for the following year and my competitive drive for DIY dog Halloween costumes was born ?. ⁣ ⁣ 2015 I made him spaghetti ⁣ ⁣ 2016 I made him cotton candy (which was cute but the hat really made the costume – sadly a few minutes before we stepped on stage a gust of wind caught his hat and ripped in apart) ⁣ ⁣ 2017 Jensen and I were gumball machines ⁣ ⁣ 2018 was the disasterous sushi costumes we won't even discuss⁣ ⁣ And that brings us to this year – we've got paws crossed this year's costume can bring home theTop Dog prize for our first non-food related costume! And hoping the boys don't get themselves or each other too tangled up when walking across the stage!⁣ ⁣ #wethedogsdc #dcdogmoms #hillwoodestate #spookypooch #diyhalloweencostume #senioristhenewpuppy #seniordog #seniorcocker #halloween2019 #diyhalloweencostume2019 #tinydogsofdc #petsypets #dogsofbark #dcluckydog #hillwooddc #hillwoodmuseumandgardens #tbt #throwbackthursday

Check out These Creepy ‘People Pies’ and Various Other Disturbing Baked Goods

If you’re looking for something a little different this Halloween (or maybe for your wedding or a birthday party), you should definitely check out a company called Guy Meets Cake.

Andrew Fuller is the man behind their macabre creations, and the designs are so cleverly and skillfully rendered that they really aren’t for the faint of heart. Take this one, for example.

Posted by Guy Meets Cake on Friday, September 7, 2018

How would you like to bust that out during a fancy dinner party and see the look on your guests’ faces?

Fuller fully admits he has a fascination with Ed Gein, a murderer and grave robber from Wisconsin who was the inspiration behind such films as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Silence of the Lambs, and Psycho. Gein was known for digging up graving late at night and making furniture, masks, and other knickknacks out of the bones and flesh of the deceased.

Posted by Guy Meets Cake on Monday, October 8, 2018

Fuller said of Ed Gein, “Listen, don’t kill people. I don’t condone it. But he was creative and that left quite the impression. Dark though it may be, I would’ve made a beautiful lampshade.”

Fuller said he has to be thorough when he bakes his creations: “You have to be strategic with size and proportions when you make them, because they are dough. You have to consider how much certain details may expand or warp during baking.”

Let’s take a look at some more of Fuller’s edible masterpieces, shall we?
