50% of the calories Americans…

50% of the calories Americans consume come from nutrient-depleted, ultra-processed foods, including refined flours and industrial seed oils. A recent study indicates that US children and adults have high rates of deficiency of vitamins A, B6, B12, C, D, E, and folate, as well as the mineral iron

How to Keep Your Grill Clean, Even Without a Brush

It’s BBQ season! You’re ready to break out the bbq grill, slap on some burgers, steaks, brats, ribs, or all of the above, only to open up the lid and find that whoever put it away last winter didn’t clean off the grime.

It certainly wasn’t you. You would never, I know.

You know you have to clean it – a grimy grill means your food won’t taste as good, plus if there are bits of food left, it could be harboring harmful bacteria that would definitely put a damper on a party mood.

Not only that, but you want to keep that grill going for years to come, and keeping it clean prevents chemical reactions and corrosion that could mean having to spring for a new one sooner.

If that describes a summer day in your house, and you find yourself unable to find the brush to clean if off (who misplaced the damn thing?!), I’ve got some good news: your cookout isn’t ruined.

Well, not as long as you have a roll of aluminum foil around.

First, you’ll want to warm up your grill.

Next, grab enough of that aluminum foil to shape it into a ball big enough to sit on your grates without falling through the openings.

Then, grab the foil ball with a pair of tongs (you’ve located those by now, surely), and give it some elbow grease.

That’s it! The foil should scrub away the burnt and stuck on pieces of last year’s fun with the same (or greater) efficiency as your actual brush.

And it you’d like to avoid this entire scenario in the future (even the cleaning part!) simply wait until your grill is cool and then coat it with a high-heat cooking oil like canola or peanut oil. You can use a spray or take a paper towel to coat all of the grates evenly.

It’s basically like prepping a cast iron skillet, so after the oil is evenly applied you’ll want to turn the grill back on for about 30 minutes in order to settle the oil into the metal.

Onward, friends, through summer bbqs, to autumn tailgates, and beyond!

A Guy Shared Some New Parents’ List of Meal Requests on Nextdoor App and It Is Bonkers

Having your first child is an overwhelming, 24/7 job that usually makes people put aside their pride and reach out for any assistance they can get.

And one of the easiest things they can get is food. And lots of it. It’s often called a “meal train” and it’s so valuable.

But this couple… wow. They’re something else.

Meet Jack Jokinen. He joined the social network Nextdoor, which is basically just Facebook but for your neighborhood. He saw a post from some soon-to-be parents who asked for help after their baby was born.

And then things got CRAZY…

Yeah, we’re ready…

Oh, you don’t think that’s what they’re doing Jack? Well, get ready…

“On a fence of emotions” might just be my new favorite phrase.

But it gets better…

Yeah. YEAH.

And here are the meals…

Breakfast and Lunch…

Dinner…

And even Snacks! Because why not, right?

It keeps going!

And going…

Jack has the right response…

Needless to say, the story went viral and people had some things to say…

Some negative…

Some positive…

What do you think?

Personally, I think this guy had the right reaction.

If you’re asking people to help you out FOR FREE with meals, you can list a couple dietary restrictions… but this is nuts.

A Man Checked a Single Can of Beer After an Airline Wouldn’t Let Him Board with It

Doesn’t it seem like air travel keeps getting more and more strict? From beating up doctors to killing adorable, giant rabbits, they’ve been total dicks lately.  The latest incident? Refusing to let a gentleman bring his beer onto the plane with him.

Passenger Dean Stinson was on his way to Perth, Australia via Qantas Flight QF777 when was told he couldn’t bring his can of Emu Export lager, so he hatched a rather hilarious plan: he checked his beer as luggage!

According to News AU:

The beer was tagged and sent off to be loaded onto the plane with the rest of the baggage, which the Melbourne ground staff happily did — but not until they had snapped a few pictures of the unusual check-in item.

Incredibly, the beer actually made it to its destination and apparently was the first thing to come out at the baggage claim – proving that the baggage handles at Perth clearly have a great sense of humor.

Sure, it might be all shaken up and skunked from the changes in pressure and temperature that it undoubtedly experienced in the cargo bay, but it’s the principle of the matter. This hero of a man stared the tyranny of modern air travel right in the eye and literally said, “Hold my beer.”

Absolute legend.

Keep Your Fingers Crossed, America! Jack in the Box Is Testing Tiny Tacos in Select Locations.

Is this a sign of things to come in the taco game? If so, our fast food experience might get a lot more interesting in the near future. If you’ve never had the tacos from Jack in the Box, honestly you should give them a shot because they’re pretty decent. And I’m a self-identified taco fanatic.

But Jack in the Box is doing something a little bit different right now. The fast food chain is testing out tiny tacos in select markets to see how customers like them. They kind of look like little pizza rolls (AKA, delicious). The tiny tacos are served with a Ranch dipping sauce, a Taco Sauce, and the company’s new Creamy Avocado Lime Sauce.

They’re CHEAP, too. The prices vary a bit in the different test markets. In Dallas and Austin, Texas, you can get 5 tiny tacos for a single dollar, or 25 tacos for 5 bucks. Not bad at all. In Fresno, California, you can buy 15 tiny tacos for $3, or, wait for it…you can pay a single extra dollar to get the Loaded Tiny Tacos that have melted cheese, lettuce, and taco sauce.

I blame WilsonMini Tacos from Jack-In-The-Box

Posted by BP Burke on Tuesday, July 2, 2019

The trial runs in Texas and California last until September 1, 2019, and then presumably the bigwigs at Jack in the Box will make a decision about whether to make the tiny tacos a nationwide phenomenon. Don’t let us down, Texans and Californians! Americans all across this great land are counting on you to get the job done!

Here’s an Easier Way to Use Your Cheese Grater

Two things are certain when it comes to grating cheese for recipes and the like: First, freshly grated cheese tastes and melts way better than the pre-shredded stuff you buy in the bag, and second, I absolutely hate grating cheese. It makes my wrist hurt, I often scrape my knuckles, and it takes forever (relatively).

But wait…

There’s a better way!

If you’ve got a standard, four-sided cheese grater, there’s a good chance you haven’t been using it to its full potential. According to Menu World, instead of holding it vertically in one hand, you should lay it down on a table or counter and grate your cheese from side-to-side instead of up-and-down.

The action prevents the grater from moving around while you hold it, is easier on your arms, and, since you’re putting pressure downward, should help the process go a bit quicker. It also allows the cheese to collect inside the grater instead of on the counter or straight into a bowl.

An extra tip? For easier grating, coat the grater with cooking spray ahead of time, especially if you’re attempting to grate a soft or sticky cheese.

Oh, and here’s one more – you can use an old toothbrush to help get all of those annoying little holes cleaned out afterward, saving your knuckles and your sponges during that process, as well.

It seems like such a simple thing! It’s kind of a wonder that many of us have never thought of it before now – but if you’re feeling silly, don’t worry, because you’re definitely not alone!

People everywhere have been taken aback, including me – and I gotta say, I can’t wait until it’s time to grate some more cheese!

I’m sure it won’t be long. Because, you know.

Cheese.

A Mom Ordered Her Daughter a “Moana” Cake…but Got a “Marijuana” Cake Instead

I think ordering an adorable Disney princess cake and walking away with a cake immortalizing one’s love for drugs is quite a doozy. Don’t you?

I mean, this is more than thinking you can re-create Bikini Bottom like the professional who posted the design on Facebook and ending up with a blue-green lump wearing a starfish bra, right?

Not that I’ve seen that happen. At all. Ahem.

Luckily, the daughter in question was celebrating her 25th birthday and not her 5th, which makes the situation more hilarious than tragic.

Kensli Davis requested a Moana cake from an Atlanta bakery, and her mother complied, since one of the most important parts of planning and hosting a birthday party is to have the perfect cake for the guest of honor.

In case you’ve forgotten what Moana looks like:

When she went to pick it up, though, she opened the lid to find a cake decorated with a marijuana leaf and a totally stoned My Little Pony.

Can we just pause for a moment to appreciate the artistry behind this My Little Pony, though? I mean. It’s green, it’s emitting a puff of smoke, and it comes complete with bloodshot eyes.

Kensli posted a photograph to Facebook she thought it was so funny.

I haven’t had a chance to tell y’all about our experience this weekend with my birthday cake. So my mama called and…

Posted by Kensli Taylor Davis on Tuesday, July 2, 2019

“So my mama called and ordered me a cake telling them how much I loved Moana. (Because I really do). Well, needless to say these people thought she said marijuana.”

Other people have also been quick to see the humor in the situation; her post has gathered 12,000 reactions and 13,000 shares – most of which are the uber-appropriate “crying laughing” emoji.

And, like many stories involving cake and marijuana, this one has a happy ending.

“That ice cream cake was still good, though.”

And isn’t that really all that matters?
