Let’s Clear Up Some Misconceptions About Chickens, Eggs, And Honey

There are a lot of misconceptions about farming, buying local, what it means to support the healthy production of animal byproducts that in no way harms animals, et al. Many vegans make the life choice not to eat any animal byproduct, even things like honey – when bees make more than they need and are not at all bothered if we take some away.

This thread is clearly motivated by someone promoting supporting local farmers, but it also has a lot of good facts in it – so if that’s your jam, you’re going to love it!

It points out first that if you refuse to eat things like eggs that you know are sourced ethically, you’re really doing nothing but hurting the animals you’re intending to help.

Someone, though, tried to argue (without any facts on their side).

Which led to some serious knowledge being dropped – from an actual beekeeper – about how the practice of growing and protecting hives works.

In truth, beekeepers do more to sustain the honeybee population than they would dream of doing to harm it, and without them, the species would likely be much worse off.

Down with misinformation!

While what the arguer said about chicken farming and egg production is true, she’s missing the point – that supporting local, ethical farms is one way to stand against factory farming and unethical practices

Like beekeepers, farmers do everything they can to make sure they’re treating their hens (and their eggs) well.

There’s no real conspiracy here.

There you have it!

If you’ve been avoiding foods like eggs and honey thinking that you’re helping poor, abused animals, it sounds like it’s time to think again.

Spread the truth, my friends!

A Person Put Their Sister-in-Law in Her Place for Complaining About Food. Did They Act Like a Jerk?

People get worked up about all kinds of things, and one of the big ones folks complain about is FOOD.

And a person got pretty offended and spoke out against her sister-in-law after she complained about the food she made…but I have a feeling there’s a lot of tension bubbling under the surface here…

Here’s what happened.

AITA for telling my SIL to shut it when she complained about my food?

My SIL and I got along really well when my husband and I first met and were first married.

Then she took offense when I ended up missing her 30th birthday party because I already had pre-arranged, pre-paid plans with a couple of my friends. To clarify, the party was not on her actual birthday, it was two weeks earlier and so I didn’t see any reason to check the date with her.

But she could not accept me picking them over her which is how she views it. Even my husband told her it wasn’t fair to expect me to lose out when it’s not like I planned it on her actual birthday. But it hasn’t been the same since.

Ever since, whenever we’re hosting my ILs or whenever we bring food, she criticizes it. My husband and the rest of the family have called her out on being ungrateful. They have told her she should let the party thing go but she doesn’t. My cooking or baking was never an issue before she got pi**ed about me not being there for her birthday. She used to ask me for recipes and we’d cook together for Christ sake.

This past weekend we hosted a small dinner with family (both sides) to celebrate the impending arrival of mine and my husbands first child. Kind of like a baby shower but smaller and much less fuss. SIL was going off on the food again and I had enough.

I told her nobody was forcing her to come if she hated my food so much and maybe we would all be better off without her constantly s**t talking me through everything, even such a happy occasion.

She was pi**ed. She was so pi**ed. Even more when only one relative (another SIL) came to her defense or called me out. It’s now created tension between the family and I’ve been called a bi**h, an a**hole, a petty bi**h, all sorts of other stuff and I feel bad for lashing out the way I did.

AITA?”

And here’s how folks responded on Reddit.

This person said that person was not an a**hole and that the sister-in-law was put in her place the right way.

Another reader thought up a fun idea about the SIL.

How about they make a game out of her bad attitude?!?!

This individual said that no one should have to put up with rude behavior in their own home.

Amen!

Lastly, a Reddit user said that the person’s family should have stuck up for them in this situation and that the SIL needs to know what the consequences are for being rude.

What a Legal Substance That You’re Addicted To? Here’s What People Said.

Tacos. Chinese food. Pizza.

Those are my weaknesses.

And yes, I’m gonna go on the record today and say that I am 100% addicted to these legal substances.

I only eat them in moderation these days, but I can still dream about them as much as I want, right…?

Are you addicted to any LEGAL substances?

AskReddit users spoke up.

1. Recovering addict.

“Not so much anymore but I was very addicted to peanut butter.

It was somehow incorporated into every meal of the day for me for some time but one day I just stopped.”

2. Nasal spray.

“When I had a cold, I used this nasal spray that shrinks the blood vessels in the nose and makes it easier for you to breathe.

It is an over the counter drug store item and you dont need a prescription.

Once you stop using it, your nose clogs up or at least it feels like it because you used to breathe like a superhero for a week. The longer you use, the worse the withdrawals are.

I couldn’t properly breathe without it so I ended up using it for almost half a year.”

3. They are tasty.

“Doritos.

I was a massive addict. I used to buy a couple whole boxes of them. I used to drive to Frito Lays to buy them directly from the factory because was the only places where you could buy this much without people asking questions.

What makes me stop was in one occasion i went to a “Colmado”(Is pretty much a 7/11 or mini market here at Dom.Rep). Told the guy “give me this just on doritos”. Was around 800 DPO, which is 14 USD One bag personal bag of Doritos is 25 DPO here.

Around 30 something bags of Doritos. The guy looked at me and told me “D**n. You just wiped my whole shelf. Now i need to call Frito Lays to bring me a couple boxes”. I looked at the empty shelf i was so embarrassed and disgusted of myself.

On my way walking home i started to gift them away to people. I kept like 3 bags, ate them and since them I slowly were reducing my numbers of Doritos at weeks for the next couple months. I stil love them, but I don’t have the impulse anymore.”

4. Slow down!

“Oreos… I can knock down a sleeve before looking down.

It only stops when the stomach pain sets in and even if it subsides for a moment, that moment will be filled with an Oreo.”

5. What a story.

“Sweet Baby Ray’s honey chipotle BBQ sauce.

I had a bad accident as a kid from drinking what I thought was Koolade but nope, so a very good portion of my tongue and cheeks got scar tissue. Since then I haven’t been able to taste a lot of foods.

I literally can not taste most bread, crackers, light soup broths, a few juices, etc. The worst easily is that I can not taste most red meats…

But for some reason, I’m super sensitive to honey and Smokey flavors and that sauce was a godsend. I am no medical doctor, and I don’t know how to explain it(?) but when I use it on something I not only taste the sauce but can actually taste a lot of foods I couldn’t before. So I put it on everything like a weirdo.

In the same vein, I also keep a small bottle of ghost pepper hot sauce as well but mostly for pasta as chipotle bbq doesn’t seem to work with most red sauces but the ghost pepper does?”

6. The better choice.

“Chocolate.

I gave up sm**ing years ago and substituted it with an addiction to chocolate.”

7. Comforting.

“I’m not even addicted to caffeine, but to the idea of coffee, that larger than life promise of absolute comfort and solution to any imaginable problem that a cup of coffee holds.

Whether you’re getting irritated by politics, experiencing legal trouble, your boss pi**ed you off, your personal relationships are a mess, you’re pondering the pointlessness of existence or have a small practical task you just don’t feel like dealing with, a cup of coffee is the obligatory first step you have to take to figure it out.

You have to spread it out over 3 hours and have someone nodding their head in understanding too as a part of the ritual. Enlightenment should follow.”

8. So good.

“Thin Mints.

Lucky is the first Girl Scout I spot each season. I’ll tell them “stay right there, don’t go anywhere.” Then I’ll go home and get my van. Come back as quick as I can hoping the girl hasn’t left the area. I’ll pull up, throw a bunch of money on the table and just grab what I came for.

I’ll load my prize in the back of the van, secure it well and take off. I’ve got a special place in my home where nobody can find them, but it’s easy for me to get to when I want to treat myself. Usually they’ll last a few months. Then I start looking forward to spotting the next lucky Girl Scout.”

9. Insomnia cocktail.

“Benedryl.

A lifetime of adult insomnia led me to search for stronger sleep cocktails and I took a Benedryl with Meletonin.

It got so bad I was up to a few every night but happy to report now I am down to a half and going to go down to zero soon.”

10. FOOD.

“Food. This isn’t a joke. It is 100% a real addiction.

When when you’re almost 400 lbs and unhappy with yourself, your brain still convinced you unhealthy eating is the answer to happiness. That’s a fu**ing addiction…but an addiction you need to feed into in order to survive.

Imagine being addicted to m**h, but you needed to take “healthy” less potent meth 3x a day to live. It would be impossible to overcome. That’s how I feel about food.”

11. Might want to look into that.

“Unintentionally, Codeine. I’ve had to take it for around 7 years now for a chronic pain disorder.

I don’t like crave it in the way people crave a ci**rette for nicotine but if I have a good pain day and I don’t need to take as much I get itchy and really irritable and dizzy.

So that’s fun.”

Now it’s your turn.

Some Folks Think Chocolate-Covered Pickles Are a Good Idea

I will be the first person to say that dipping pretty much anything in chocolate is a good idea. Chocolate is delicious and ranks right up there with coffee when we’re talking about foods that sustain life, but listen.

There is no way that chocolate and pickles go together unless you’re pregnant or are experiencing some sort of similar hormone imbalance, and I honestly don’t see how anything could change my mind.

There are people who feel differently (there always are), though, and so if you think you’d like to bite into a vinegar-y, wet pickle covered in chocolate, you’re definitely going to get your chance.

Malley’s Chocolate is bringing their boxes of chocolate-covered pickles back for a limited time, so I guess now’s the time to grab one if you’re so inclined.

If you’re basing your decision on what people have had to say about the product on social media in the past, well…that might not work.

Reviews tend to be a bit mixed, but more than a few of them agree that while they enjoy chocolate, and they enjoy pickles, the combination isn’t something they’d run out to buy again.

That said, this is a repeat offering from Malley’s, and the novelty can’t push sales forever, so maybe there are secret hordes of chocolate pickle lovers out there.

Or pregnant women are stocking up to last the entire nine months.

If you happen to be near a Malley’s retailer, maybe just try them to say you did – and then let us know how it turned out.

The products are too fragile to be shipped, so the rest of us are out of luck.

Darn.

Would you try these? Tell us why or why not down in the comments!

Fast Food Workers Share the Best Items Not On The Menu

For most people, fast food is a part of our lives.

We keep busy, running from place to place, or maybe the idea of fixing dinner for everyone again just to hear them say it’s gross is enough to send you running to the nearest McDonald’s.

Whatever the reason, most of us find ourselves in a drive thru now and again.

If you’re tired of your old staples and looking for something new, these 16 employees have come up with some pretty amazing offerings that you won’t find on the menu.

16. I’m definitely going to try this at home.

Worked at KFC and the biscuits come frozen. We would put them in the fryer instead of the oven and they were the most delicious, dense buttermilk donuts.

Drizzle on some honey and they are awesome!

15. It’s a mad world.

Made some pretty interesting blizzards at DQ. However a customer ordered the most bizarre item by far. A Chili cheese shake. He came in asking if we could do it as his friend bet him nobody would make one, but if he could get a place to make it, he would eat it.

Ordered a large which was 32 oz. I had the pleasure of making it. However we didn’t get to see the guy eat it. I bet it was gross.

14. Sounds like dollar signs to me.

I used to work at Wendy’s. We poured this special strawberry flavoring that was supposed to be used for a fruity drink into a vanilla frosty.

Stirred it up, it tasted amazing.

13. This sounds delightful.

Former pizza hut employee here.

Take overproofed, unusable dough, rip it up, deep fry for a couple minutes, cover in cinnamon sugar.

Boom. Donut bites.

12. Now I want to work at Wendy’s.

When I worked at Wendy’s 2013 , my favorite lil stoner snacks were a Vanilla frosty Mixed with two pumps of the vanilla syrup for the iced coffee – tased like a Birthday cake milkshake, my

Wendy’s also had breakfast so I would take the premade burritos and fry the contents on the grill – toss out the nasty tortilla on it – add it to the artesian breakfast bun we had – added the hollandaise sauce.

For lunch it would be something along the lines of a bacon cheeseburger with the cheese sauce mayo ketchup & grilled onions. With cheese fries add jalapeños of course. And if I wanted to add any more carbs to my day. I could finish it off with the fish fillet sandwich made extra crispy – chopped up & put over some well done French fries.

The strawberry lemonade – add in some fresh strawberries & blueberries from the salad bar . Literally we would just try and do anything new to switch it up.

11. Brilliant.

Used to work in a concession stand at a movie theater. One of my coworkers would make chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks, stick them in a hot dog bun and slather it in marinara to make a chicken parm sandwich.

10. He should have patted them on the back!

Not exactly unique but I left a tray of wings in the oven for too long, not burnt but clearly overcooked. Made up a “new trial product” for extra crispy styled wings.

Went great until someone came back the next day and asked my manager if we had more extra crispy wings in stock.

9. This Midwesterner approves.

Also used to work in concessions at a theater

Someone cooked a pizza in the oven just enough to melt the cheese & then deep fried the crust in the fryer by holding it with the funnel cake spatula. It was pretty damn good

8. Write! These! Down!

At Taco Bell we had a LARGE secret menu.

Ninja Turtle – Baja Blast and regular mountain dew, looked cool.

Mastodon – Chalupa shell with hard shell instead, coated in nacho cheese. Made like a Gordita crunch.

Mastodon Supreme – See above with an extra shell, loaded with sour cream, lettuce, tomato, the works.

Churro Special – Back when the soft churros were a thing, we used to make dessert burritos with them. Breaking an apple pie, two churros, grilled.

Everything Nachos – Which was literally everything on the line. Meats, cheese, and all the toppings. Right when the XXXL Nachos released we started doing this.

We would make these for drive through people who knew what they were if they wanted them. I miss that place man. Night shifts were great shifts, and we came up with quite a few more before I ended up moving.

7. They should sell this for sure.

When I worked at Pizza Hut we would make the stuffed crust minus the pizza. It would just be a giant ring of cheese and dough.

6. I hope the passengers were the drunks…

Night shift at taco bell was awesome. I always worked drive through cause I was the only one who spoke drunk well enough.

I used to make all kinds of stuff but my favorite was basically just a steak quesadilla but steamed and rolled into a burrito rather than grilled and throw some baja sauce on it

5. A hit, for sure.

I worked at a Pizza Hut.

Instead of shaking the cheese powder on the breadsticks, I’d used the cinnamon sugar normally used on the pretzels on them, which tasted amazing fresh out of the oven and worked well the “butter” that you’d swipe on.

The “butter” added the right amount of salt to make the sugar stand out.

4. How are these people not dead?

Similar to your Everything Nachos, at our taco bell we once created the “Rapture” burrito.

Which included every single thing on the line inside 2 12 inch tortillas, and grilled.

And by everything, I mean everything. Including stuff like empanadas and nachos.

3. Sweet snacks are popular.

When I used to work at a Pizza Hut they had the Hershey’s Dunkers and I thought they were alright, bit too chocolatey for my taste.

But when I would make them I would put down a light layer of cinnamon and about 3/4 of the chocolate topping and then use the icing for dunking instead of the chocolate sauce they had.

2. People would for sure buy these.

Used to work at KFC.

Took scoops of potato and made balls out of them, breaded in the crispy flour/batter and cooked them through on a crispy strip cycle before pouring a little gravy over the top and eating them.

Like big potato gems/ tater tots/ potato meatballs -> depending on where you’re from.

1. I feel like he pitched this idea and got turned down.

I used to be the assistant manager of a Pizza Hut before I had to move. I’d take a medium hand tossed dough, toss it like you aren’t supposed to (lol), and then add teriyaki wingstreet sauce as the base, cheese, chicken, green peppers, and onion.

As soon as it came out on cut table, I’d put the garlic butter on the crust and it would be a stir fry pizza with egg roll tasting crust. It was absolutely amazing and would totally make it again if I could

These sound a little hit or miss to me, but I’d be willing to try at least some of them.

Was This Person a Jerk for Throwing Away a Cake Someone Made for Her? People Responded.

It’s time to hang on tight for another great story from the archives of Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole” page!

And this one has to do with a discarded birthday cake that led to some hurt feelings.

Let’s see what transpired…

AITA for throwing out a birthday cake that was made for me?

“Last week was my (17F) and my twin brother’s birthday.

Our family wanted to throw us a small party and we thought it’d be a great idea since we’ve hardly gotten to see anyone in our extended family for the last year. I was particularly excited because our aunt owns a bakery and makes the most delicious cakes and I wasn’t able to get one last year.

The day of the party comes and my family members arrive. My aunt comes up to me and my brother with her daughter, Averi (9F), in tow. Both my aunt and Averi have a small box in their hands and Averi is absolutely beaming.

My aunt says, “Here are your cakes! I hope you like them!” and Averi immediately chimes in “And I made yours OP!” When my brother opens his box there’s the world’s most beautiful white chocolate cake. Absolutely supreme work by my aunt, it’s even got raspberry filling. My brother’s favorite. I couldn’t wait to see mine.

Needless to say when I opened my box I was quite disappointed. When Averi said that she made the cake she meant it. I don’t think my aunt had any involvement with my cake at all and it showed. The cake was lopsided, the icing noticeably uneven, and looked like it was decorated by a blind and/or drunk monkey that had access to sprinkles.

To be nice I took a bite. Lemon favor, which I detest. Even if it were a flavor that I liked it was dry and could barely qualify as edible. I set it aside, hugged and thanked my cousin for the cake, and continued with the party despite my disappointment.

After the party was over my aunt and mom were talking on the phone and my aunt asked to speak with me. She asked me what did I think about the cake and I was brutally honest. I told my aunt that I couldn’t eat the cake and had to throw it out and that I wished she had made a cake for both my brother and I and just let Averi have her little side project.

Unfortunately my aunt had put me on speakerphone so that my cousin could hear my answer and I gave the worst answer possible. Now Averi doesn’t want to talk to me anymore and my aunt and mom are upset with me. My brother called me and a** and said I should have just said I liked the cake but how was I supposed to know my aunt would put me on speakerphone like that?

Was I the a**hole?”

Hmmm….now let’s take a look at how folks responded on Reddit.

This person said that the girl’s aunt was to blame here. And I think I agree with them!

Another reader said that you gotta be careful with speaker phones…you never know who’s listening or what you might say!

This Reddit user said that the girl’s aunt really blew it on multiple fronts and is to blame for the situation.

This person blamed the aunt as well…and sprinkled in a bunch of fun puns. Take a look!

Finally, this person also agreed that the aunt is to blame for this entire fiasco.

This Person Is Angry Because Their Boyfriend Puts Things in Their Food They Don’t Want. Are They Wrong?

Never mess with someone’s food!

I believe in this and I think everyone else should, too.

But some people cross that line and, as you can imagine, it’s never a good thing.

Let’s see what happened in this story from a man who shared his story on the “Am I the *sshole?” page on Reddit.

AITA for getting upset at my bf for putting things I dont like in my breakfast?

“I (20M) go to a culinary arts university in America and stay with my bf L(21M).

He is American and an atheist while i’m born and raised a Turkish Muslim. Since we both go to cooking school, we change the cooking chore daily without a problem. Also last bit, i’m a rather progressive person and i cut ties with my uber-religious dad and J knows this.

So onto the story, it was J’s turn to cook and he told me he would make breakfast for the weekend. So Saturday morning (which was my birthday) he comes to my room with some food and blindfolds me saying there is a surprise. Then he says he made something on the table and we walk there. I take a bite and it was pork.

From a pig ofc. so i was of course incredibly aggravated. I took the blindfold immediately and asked why he did this. He was in hysterics and thought this was SOO funny. I told him it was disrespectful and he shouldn’t disrespect my religion.

He scoffed off saying i was overreacting and that i wasn’t that religious anyway so he thought it wouldn’t be an issue.

I’m currently thinking of moving to a new room/house but my brother who i vented to is saying that’s too much of an overreaction so AITA for maybe reacting too much?”

And here’s how folks on Reddit responded.

This reader said that the man needs to be in a relationship with someone who is going to be respectful and have boundaries. PERIOD.

Another Reddit user said that the man’s boyfriend sounds like a total psycho.

I mean, who does something like this?

This person said that the boyfriend is obviously pushing boundaries just to see how far he can take it…and that’s a really bad sign.

Another reader said the guy who wrote the post should straight up dump the chump.

And lastly, a person argued that the boyfriend’s actions clearly prove that he has no respect for the man’s religious background…and it might be time to break up.
