People Share Their Opinions About What Never Stopped Being Cool

Some things are cool and they always have been.

Bruce Springsteen. The Ramones. Martin Scorsese. Converse All-Stars. Also a whole lot of little things in life, too!

It’s just the way it is!

So let’s learn about some more eternally cool stuff.

AskReddit users talked about what was, is, and always shall be cool.

1. Nice and wholesome.

“Being the guy out of the group that waits for you when you have to stop and tie your shoe.

I LOVE that guy!”

2. Kindness.

“Being the type of person who is kind without trying to get recognized for it.

My whole family tries to be this way. As a kid, there were always strange people by the house……I asked my parents when I got a little older why they had a bunch of whacky friends.

They were nice to everyone unless you gave them a reason not to be. That lead to all the strangers and outcasts that were always dumped on by *ssholes feeling like they had a home and a friend.

I try to live by the same code because “normal” is nothing more than a setting on the dryer.”

3. That’s right.

“Sticking up for people in need.

I went to school with a mentally challenged girl from preschool through high school. She always said hi to me and I would ask her how she was, almost every single day.

One day in middle school she started walking across the street without looking and got hit by a car. She wasnt badly injured, just a few scrapes and bruises. Well a couple weeks after that she was trying to cross the street to get to school but the traffic was bad and she was scared to try to cross.

I had just parked my car and started walking to the school. I heard her yell my name from across the street and start waving. I yelled back and asked if she was ok. She asked if I would help her cross the street. I didn’t think anything of it and just kinda started walking across the street and stopped traffic.

I got to the side she was on and took her hand and I helped her across the street. She said thank you many times and we went about our day. I never thought it was a big deal but it must have been to her because throughout the rest of our school years she would randomly tell me thank you for helping her across the street.”

4. The best.

“Tony Hawk.

I’m not even into skateboarding and I think he’s cool.”

5. I agree.

“Finding money.

On the ground, in a pair of pants.

Doesn’t matter. Finding money is always cool.”

6. All ages.

“For me it’d be LEGO.

It sparks a joy in most/all people, no matter the age.”

7. Better with age.

“Bob Ross and Mister Rogers get cooler with age.

Both MUCH cooler now than when I was a kid.

They are never going to hit maximum coolness.

They’ll just keep expanding.”

8. Be gentle about it.

“A gentle but witty comeback.”

9. The good stuff.

“A cold beer after a long day of work.

Pizza and beer after helping someone move.

Makes an average beer, average pizza, taste Godly.”

10. Lookin’ sharp.

“Leather jackets.

I wouldn’t mind having one if I could pull it off.”

11. A classic look.

“Jeans, a white t-shirt and some black boots.”

12. Darn right!

“Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Dolly Parton.”

13. American icon.

“Converse will be cool until the end of time.

This is the hill I will die on.”

14. Skate or die!

“Skateboarding.

It’s still absolutely awesome to watch and super fun to practice.”

15. Pretty awesome.

“Electric guitar.

The Les Paul is like 60 years old and still cool.”

What do you think has never gone out of style and will always be cool?

Please and thank you!

People Share the Bad Encounters They’ve Had With Celebrities

I worked on movies and TV sets for quite a few years, but I gotta say that most of the celebrities I had personal interactions with seemed pretty cool and somewhat normal. But, as you know, people who are rich and powerful can often be…difficult…and some of them are just straight-up *ssholes.

I guess we can’t really blame some celebrities for being frustrated in public (or even online). You have people coming at you all the time from different directions wanting something, anything, from you.

So I can see how certain famous people get irritated and lash out. I’m not saying it’s appropriate or acceptable, but I guess until you’re in that position, you just really don’t know how you’d act or react to people. I plan on finding out very soon when I get famous from either my dancing or my modeling.

But back to the folks who are ALREADY famous…

Are you ready to hear about some regular, everyday folks who had unpleasant experiences with celebrities?

Let’s see what these folks on TikTok had to say. I can’t wait to see what happened!

Customized Pizza Toppings and Other Small Details From Pixar Movies You May Have Missed

There are a ton of reasons to love Pixar movies. They’re always visually stimulating, with heartfelt, character-driven storylines that are sure to make you laugh and cry.

But Pixar also has a reputation for being incredibly detailed. Not just with how they design characters, but how they make the world their characters inhabit so real.

From the toppings on a pizza, to Easter eggs, I’m sure you’ll appreciate these 15 small details from Pixar movies you may have missed.

1. Elastigirl’s Devtech suit isn’t up to par

In the Incredibles series, our favorite family of super heroes always sources their super suits from Edna Mode: the eccentric fashion designer with a vast knowledge of science and engineering.

However, in The Incredibles 2, Elastigirl is gifted a new super suit by Devtech. As shown in the image above, Devtech’s suit is clearly not up to par with those of Edna Mode.

In this way, Pixar reenforces the superior intellect and ability of the small but confident Edna.

2. Spencer Fox went the extra mile, literally

In the original Incredibles movie, there’s a scene where the character Dash, a young boy with super speed, runs across a vast expanse of water.

To get a realistic out-of-breath voice for this moment, director Brad Bird had voice actor Spencer Fox run four laps around the Pixar Studio until he got tired!

3. Love people, cook them tasty food

In Pixar’s Ratatouille, the 2007 film about a rat who dreams of becoming a Chef, the food critic Anton Ego proclaims, “I don’t like food, I love it…if I don’t love it, I don’t swallow.”

Early on in the movie, we see he is a slender man with rather hollow cheeks, but by the end of the movie it looks like his face has filled out a bit more, indicating that he is swallowing his food much more often!

Anton falls in love with the cooking of Linguini and Remy, and it has clearly made him a much happier man!

4. Good Dug!

Another fun detail from Ratatouille: in the scene where Remy is sneaking around a home, we see the shadow of a dog bark at him. This shadow is none other than Dug from Pixar’s Up!

However, Up wasn’t released until 2009, two years AFTER Ratatouille! We got a sneak peak of Dug before we even knew what a good boy he was.

5. Pixar is a sink-or-swim sort of workplace

Finally, there is a scene in Ratatouille in which our hero Linguini is wet from jumping in the river.

Pixar had a crew member dress up in a chef’s uniform and jump into a swimming pool so that the animators would know how to properly animate this image.

Talk about dedication!

6. Customized pizza toppings

In Pixar’s Inside Out, there’s a moment where Riley is presented with a slice of broccoli pizza, and it’s just another reason to not like her new city.

However, when Inside Out released in Japan, Pixar changed the topping on the pizza to green peppers, because in Japan kids are more likely to hate green peppers.

Pixar made the joke specific to the audience, once again going the extra mile for their storytelling.

7. Pixar knows sea life

In Pixar’s 2003 film Finding Nemo, when Marlin the clown fish starts talking about his son, Nemo, Bruce the shark begins to bawl. He wails, “I never knew my father.”

Male sharks don’t stick around after mating with female sharks, so really, no baby sharks (do do do do do do) ever meet their fathers.

I see you Pixar, and I tip my hat to you.

8. It doesn’t stop with the sharks

Again, in Finding Nemo we see another example of incorporating their research of marine life into the characters.

Gill the fish is a moorish idol, who has made more than one attempt to escape the fish tank.

This species of fish is known for not handling captivity well, so it makes sense that Gill would have the hardest time adapting to fish tank life!

9. Merida’s hair

Pixar developed two new software programs over three years for it’s 2012 film, Brave. Why? For Merida’s hair.

Merida, our fierce and formidable heroine, has a mane of long, gorgeous red hair.

The new software allowed for 1,500 stands of curly hair to move together with Merida’s every movement.

And she is a very active girl, so there is quite a LOT of movement.

10. Dug was born to do this

Back to Dug! In Up, Dug is the only dog successfully able to track down the tropical bird that Carl and Russell are after. This isn’t just by accident.

Dug is a golden retriever. He was born to track and hunt. All of the other dogs on the island are guard dog breeds. This is why they’re probably all so much better at guarding than Dug.

In a way, when Dug meets his two new favorite humans, he discovers his true talents.

11. A Quality Assurance Guarantee

Let’s be real, most of us don’t really stick around to watch the whole credits when we go see a movie, unless we think there’s some sort of blooper or teaser at the end.

But at the end of Ratatouille, Pixar posted a “100% Genuine Animation” quality assurance guarantee, stating “no shortcuts were used in the production of this film.”

This might seem unnecessary, but it was a response Happy Feet winning the Oscar for Best Animated Movie instead of Pixar’s film Cars. Happy Feet utilized motion capture technology, while Pixar animates every frame manually.

I love Pixar’s version of throwing some subtle shade.

12. Making eco-conscious choices

Finally, this may seem like an insignificant detail, but in Wall-E we see the Pixar logo lamp, Luxo Jr. (a character from a 1986 Pixar animated short), receive a new, eco-friendly bulb.

In upgrading Luxo Jr.’s bulb, Pixar is not only marking the passing of time. Pixar is reminding children and families all over the world that making environmentally sustainable choices matters.

Pixar is so brilliant when it comes to the details.

I personally love how thorough they are with their research and how they find ways to incorporate it into the storytelling. You don’t have to know sharks never meet their fathers to enjoy Finding Nemo, but for those in the know it makes the experience THAT much more special. And that’s the thing about Pixar movies. They always have that special element that keeps you coming back for more.

Movie Details You Might Have Never Noticed

There are SO many movies out there that it can seem overwhelming at times, don’t you think?

Especially now with all these streaming services, the options are just endless. BUT, I have a feeling that most of you have seen a good majority of the movies that the folks talk about in these posts where they point out some pretty interesting things that you might have missed in popular films.

So what do you say? Do you wanna learn about some interesting movie details that probably flew over your head?

I thought you’d say yes! Let’s take a look!

1. The Man of Steel.

There will be no chest shaving here!

In Man Of Steel (2013), Henry Cavill (Superman) was asked to shave his chest for the collapsing oil rig scene, However he refused saying that Superman had chest hair, citing the famous "Death of Superman" graphic novel as a reference. from MovieDetails

2. Did you notice this?

A little, important detail.

In the incredibles 2, the painting in Helen’s hotel room is an illustration of her seperation from the family. from MovieDetails

3. It’s hidden in there.

I definitely missed that one.

The poster for the movie Legend (2015) mocked one of its negative reviews by hiding the two star review between the Kray twins heads. from MovieDetails

4. Ahhh, very clever.

I need to revisit this movie.

In the Truman Show, we see Truman taking high dose vitamin D at breakfast time. This is to counteract the deficiency he would have becouse there is no real sunlight in the constructed world he inhabits. from MovieDetails

5. That was definitely not a mistake.

Portraying America as the Evil Empire.

In Avatar (2009), the evil imperialists’ room is shaped like an American flag. from MovieDetails

6. The importance of the moment.

An epic scene.

In "The Return of the King (2003)", during the epic scene of the Rohirrim Charge Peter Jackson requested that only extras who have read the novel and could recite the scene, to be placed in the front lines as they are aware of the importance of this moment. It’s how he ended up with this epic rider. from MovieDetails

7. Change the toppings!

Had to localize the joke.

In Inside Out, the pizza toppings were changed from broccolis to bell peppers in Japan, since kids in Japan don’t like bell peppers. Pixar localised the joke. from MovieDetails

8. What’s that ticking noise?

Pay attention to this next time.

In Interstellar on the water planet, the soundtrack in the background has a prominent ticking noise. These ticks happen every 1.25 seconds. Each tick you hear is a whole day passing on Earth. (Math in the comments) from MovieDetails

9. When the music’s over.

Took on a darker tone.

Mulan (1998) only has musical numbers for the first half, until the characters find the destroyed village. From there on songs were avoided because the tone was meant to be darker. from MovieDetails

10. Hopefully it’s not too late.

This is an important movie.

In the opening scene of WALL-E (2008) there are wind turbines and nuclear plants built on top of trash mounds to imply that mankind didn’t convert to clean energy until it was too late from MovieDetails

11. Where is Kevin?

What did he get himself into this time?

In Home Alone (1990) when they counted the people for the trip they say there’s 17 people in total. An odd number between two vans means they will be split 8/9. Since Kevin was missing both vans had 8 people instead, making each group assume they were on the 8-people van, not suspecting a thing from MovieDetails

12. A testament to friendship.

It’s time to say goodbye.

In Avengers: Endgame when Captain America is going off to return the stones, the rest are expecting him to return. Bucky says his goodbye knowing Steve is not returning to his timeline, a testament to their friendship! from MovieDetails

13. That is one HUGE ring.

Gotta get those close-up shots!

Giant ring used for close-ups in ‘Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’ (2001). from MovieDetails

14. I never noticed that before!

Well, what do you know?

In THE KARATE KID (1984) Daniel’s friend Freddy wears a National Organization For The Reform Of Marijuana Laws (NORML) shirt. from MovieDetails

How about you?

Do you know of any interesting movie details that most people don’t know about?

People Discuss the Movie Moments That Really Stuck With Them

I could spend the rest of my life watching movies that have already been made and not see anything new and I still wouldn’t get to see everything I want to.

Why do we love movies so much?

Because they are magic! And they transport us to places that help us escape our reality.

What movie scenes in your life have really blown your mind?

Let’s learn about some movie magic from people on AskReddit.

1. That was good.

“In Signs, when the alien appears between the bushes in the birthday party, on the news.

No matter how many times I’ve seen that movie, I still jump in that scene.”

2. Epic.

“When the dinosaurs appeared on Jurassic Park.

I remember being in awe of how real it looked.

For all the hype building up to the movie, and as much as the critics lauded the effects, that one scene exceeded everyone’s expectations.

That music building to a crescendo, panning across the lush valley filled with dinosaurs, and that, “Welcome….to Jurassic Park.””

3. Goosebumps.

“LOTR: The Two Towers.

Near the end of the Battle of Helm’s Deep, when Gandalf leads a wave of riders charging down a hillside toward the orc armies.

On the big screen, it was fantastically epic. Pure goosebumps.”

4. I remember this, too.

“I still remember, 22 years later, sitting in the theater in enrapt silence for the entire 25 minute-long storming Omaha Beach opening scene in Saving Private Ryan.”

5. An early memory.

“One of my earliest cinema memories is from Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.

At the end of the film, Luke is back aboard the Millennium Falcon having had a new prosthetic arm attached. There’s a very quick close shot of the prosthetic tendons in his arm moving before they flip the cover closed and get back to the story.

That tiny glimpse below the surface blew me away as a kid and I still think of it 30-something years later.”

6. A great scene.

“The first scene of Inglorious Basterds.

The tension just builds and builds and builds it’s incredibly emotionally draining and unforgettable.

And they create all this tension straight off the bat, all the character setup and introduction to the plot has to happen right there in that scene.”

7. We all miss it…

“I remember sitting in the theater with my best friends watching Inception.

When the rotating hallway sequence started I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I turned to my friends, all their mouths were slightly ajar, just in disbelief.

I really miss going to the cinema.”

8. Powerful.

“I’m going to go with a different tone. There have been plenty of gorgeous visuals and “what just happened” moments.

But one striking visual that I will never forget is the rocks on Oskar Schindler’s grave at the end of Schindler’s List.

No other scene is movie history has been more powerful and profound to me than that scene. To see the real people that he saved and their descendants paying their respects.”

9. Heartbreaking.

“The Iron Giant.

Watching him fly into the nuke to save the town from certain death.

I was so young it was the first time I ever grasped the concept of death and the first time I had ever cried during a movie.”

10. A big hit.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

I went into the theater without any expectations.

From the style to the unique story-telling, it was the comic book adaptation I wanted my entire life.”

11. A great movie experience.

“Blade Runner 2049 in theaters.

Not a big crowd, rainy October night, IMAX. Visuals and soundtrack literally blew me away.

Great movie, wish I could relive that experience again.”

12. A shocker!

“I saw The Sixth Sense at the cinema when it was first released and nobody knew what the big twist was.

There was a collective gasp in the audience when the big reveal happened, and I remember thinking I couldn’t believe I hadn’t seen it coming at all.”

13. Getting chills.

“Mad Max: Fury Road.

The first “witness me!” moment. War boy gets shot with spikes in the head. All the other boys start cheering him on. He sits up, the camera over-cranks, spray paints his mouth silver. Grabs two bomb spears.

“WITNESS MEEE!” All the war boys yell “WITNESSSS!” He jumps and blows up the pursuing car.

That gave me chills.”

14. Very cool.

“The scene at the beginning of The Matrix where Trinity ran up the wall and did a backflip, where time stopped and the camera rotated around her.”

15. A classic.

“The defibrillator scene from The Thing (1982).

That entire sequence is absolutely captivating.

Hell, the whole movie is.”

16. That’s a crazy movie.

“The horse scene, from The Cell.

Those who saw it will always remember it….

The Cell is such an underrated movie. Jennifer Lopez (before she became “J-Lo”) was great. That scene was pretty jarring, too.

Like she’s trying to talk to the kid while petting the horse, then that weird clock starts ticking and he has to grab her away from those blades that come down…

I’m glad I don’t like horses, because I bet it gave horse lovers nightmares after seeing that.”

Strategies That Disney Parks Use to Preserve the Magic

People travel miles and miles to visit a Disney theme park. We know and love the movies, we’re familiar with the brand, and we’re ready to visit a place where, at least for a few days, we can let ourselves believe in something magical.

But how does Disney do it? We may never know the full secret recipe. Only those who sign on to work for the Mouse are educated on its inner workings, and many of them prefer to “keep the magic alive,” but we can share at least 10 strategies Disney parks use to ensure you have a magical experience.

1. Only a select few may become Disney character actors.

The audition process to become Disney a character actor is tough. Character actors play costumes characters, like Micky Mouse, Geni, or Pinocchio.

After waiting in line for potentially hours, hopefuls are divided into groups of 50 people, lined up in rows of 10, and each appraised for their physical appearance. Many will be “typed out” at this point, and let go.

Professional actors are used to facing rejection consistently, but for the average Jane this part can be heartbreaking. I only auditioned for Disney once, but I remember after being typed out, I passed so many girls openly weeping on my way out.

2. The ‘Disney look’ is very specific.

These iconic characters each have a specific look that must be preserved. To be cast as a Disney character, actors have to fit specific height and body type requirements. You have to be between 5’3-5’7 to play a Disney princess, and between 4’11-5’2 to play Wendy, Alice, or a fairy like Tinkerbell.

Male Disney characters like Kristoff, Gaston, and Tarzan are always 6’0-6’3. In addition to meeting height requirements, all princesses are required to have a “slender build” and men are required to have a “strong, athletic build.”

3. It’s time for “Princess School.”

Training to play a Disney park character includes watching their movie and receiving coaching to learn their every move, gesture, and facial expression. It’s important for actors to know the character’s story inside out, down to their favorite color. Actors want to be prepared for any question a child could throw at them. They also have to learn their character’s signature vocal pattern.

Susan Banks, an actor who portrayed characters like Tinkerbell and many petite fur characters told BuzzFeed,

“For most girls, the character is higher than their actual voice…Actually it’s so high that some girls will go on vocal rest because it strains their vocal chords — especially when they first start out.”

If someone is playing Mary Poppins or Wendy Darling, they’ll need accent coaching, but even characters we wouldn’t normally think of as having accents still have a specific way of speaking.

4. Consistency is key.

All character actors will be taught by a professional cosmetologist how to apply their character’s signature makeup look. They’ll be paid for one hour of makeup/costume prep time each day they perform, and Disney provides the makeup products to ensure consistency. Ben Nye, a professional brand used specifically for the stage and theatrical performance, is the official brand of Disney park actors.

Whether you’re a fur or a face character actor, everyone has to learn the official signature of each character they portray. This ensures consistency from year to year. If doesn’t matter if you visited the park last year and your friend visited three years ago, you should both have signatures that look pretty much the same.

5. “Fur characters” must also be consistent.

Fur characters are the characters dressed up in big suits. They are not allowed to speak and can only communicate through physical gestures.

Fur characters get paid less than face characters (those who don’t wear the big suits), but they also have shorter sets. A fur character won’t have a set that’s longer than 30 minutes when outside or 45 minute when inside, and they’re guaranteed just as much time to rest as the spend interacting with guests.

Fur actors also have to be able to sign autographs, despite how difficult it can be to see in those suits. (On that note, please don’t ask them to hold your baby for a picture.)

6. Practically perfect.

Character actors, especially the Disney princesses, are basically expected to look and act perfectly at all times. This pressure also extends to maintaining a certain weight. In an interview with Refinery29, Disney character actor Becca opened up about the pressure she felt to stay trim.

“You can’t help but be judgmental about your looks when it comes to this job — honestly, it’s pretty sad. We all constantly compare ourselves and try to copy each other. I have a gym membership because I feel like I’m supposed to maintain the look I was hired in with.”

I’ve also had friends who work as character actors for Disney echo this same sentiment. Unfortunately the happiest place on Earth can become a toxic, unsafe environment for the young people working to portray these face characters.

7. Every Disney employee is a “cast member.”

The “Disney Look” isn’t just for actors. All cast members (anyone employed in a Disney park or store) have to memorize their customer service scripts and follow a specific dress code.

For instance, cast members can only have “natural” hair colors (no pinks and purples), nails must be kept short and a natural shade. Females may only wear one ring on each hand (with the exception of wedding bands). There are even guidelines for the types of hairstyles and facial hair men are allowed to have.

All cast members are players in the show that is Disney parks.

8. There are strict rules to follow.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan, an anonymous princess who played Belle explained,

“You have to smile for an hour straight; you can’t drop your smile until you go on break and are behind closed doors because Disney doesn’t want any pictures of us not smiling. The first few weeks, my face literally hurt…

She goes on to explain how she was expected to greet 172  guests per hour. If she or the other princesses went under, they would get a reprimand. Four reprimands equals termination.

Disney cast members could also be fired for taking selfies or pictures backstage while at work. Those who work as character actors can’t even post about it on social media. They’re only allowed to make comments like, “It was so nice to see my friend Ariel at Disney World today…” Disney doesn’t want social media to spoil the magic.

9. But guests will be held accountable too.

Guests who break rules at Disney World will be held accountable. Spreading a relative’s ashes at Disney World (especially in the Haunted Mansion) is a consistent offense the park strictly prohibits. The ashes only end up getting cleaned up and disposed of, and those caught doing so can be escorted off the premises and banned for life.

And don’t think you can be sneaky about it. Security is everywhere in Disney world, in uniform and plain clothes. If you attempt to injure a cast member, smoke in non-smoking areas, or make a drunken fool of yourself, don’t be surprised if you end up in a not-so-magical jail cell.

10. The magic is in the details.

As harsh as some of these rules might seem for “the happiest place on Earth,” it’s the details that really make a Disney experience so special.

Thanks to careful scheduling, guests will never see two of the same characters out and about at the same time. If Micky is in the parade at 3:00pm, you won’t be able to find him anywhere else until that parade has ended.

Disney cast members are also required to employ the “Disney point,” which means pointing with two fingers instead of one, because pointing with one finger can be seen as rude.

Of equal importance is the idea that children are never “lost” at Disney world. Only adults can be lost, and it will be the job of a Disney cast member to help a child find their lost adult. Disney utilizes tricks like this to preserve the magic.

Sometimes knowing how the sausage is made makes it less appetizing. Certainly there are aspects to Disney culture that can be seen as potentially problematic, like the expectation put on character actors to maintain a specific weight, but knowing how much thought and detail has gone into creating the Disney park experience also makes me respect it a lot more. The people who work for Disney do so by choice, and most of the time they do it because they love the culture.

A Haunted Carwash Provides a Socially Distant Scare This Halloween

What’s the best thing about Halloween? Dressing up in costume? Trick or treating? Oh, I know—haunted houses!

For many, COVID-19 will be putting a damper on our usual Halloween festivities.

However, in Medina, Ohio you could experience a scare or two, and clean up your car in the process, by visiting this haunted car wash.

The Rainforest Car Wash in Medina, Ohio has made over its usual jungle adventure themed car wash into the haunted car wash of your darkest nightmares.

For just $20, you and your family can go through the carwash while creepily costumed skulk about. If you can survive the jump scares, you will be rewarded with a goodie bag at the end.

Plus, a shiny clean car.

What’s not to love?

This will be the business’s second annual haunted car wash experience, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. The haunted car wash provides safe, socially distant clean fun.

Anthony Bencivenni, Rainforest’s district manager, says,

“Each participant will get to escape from the day-to-day for a little while to enjoy the event from the comfort of their vehicle.

This year has been particularly difficult for many in our community, and in light of that, we feel it’s critical to provide an opportunity for our local families to enjoy special moments, have fun together, and make lasting memories.”

Rainforest Haunted Car Wash

The Haunted Car Wash is coming soon to Rainforest's Medina location! Starting on October 16th, experience the Rainforest a little differently. Every October, we're hauuuunteddd. ? #rfhaunted

Posted by Rainforest Car Wash on Wednesday, 7 October 2020

Carwashes already make me a little claustrophobic. Going through one with a bunch of killer clowns sounds legitimately terrifying!

Still…I’ll try anything once.

You can hide but you can’t run. Drive through the haunted carwash for some spooky, soapy fun!

Have you visited a unique haunted experience like the haunted car wash? Let us know about it in the comments!

People Discuss What They Think Are the Best Moments in Film History

When discussing films, the possibilities about what are the best moments in the history of cinema are pretty much endless, depending on who you’re talking to.

You could go in a million different directions: silent film, Japanese, French, gangsters, period pieces, 1960s, the list goes on and on!

What do you think is the most epic moment in the history of cinema?

Let’s see what AskReddit users had to say.

1. A great one!

“The graveyard scene in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

I’ve shown my kids a movie every Friday night since my oldest was 3 (11 now), and that’s our favorite. I can pull it up at any random time and everyone will stop what they are doing and silently watch it.

Eli Wallach as Tuco is the greatest anti-hero and one of the greatest performances in film history.”

2. Pretty amazing.

“Historically speaking, I think when everything is suddenly in color in “The Wizard of Oz,” after the first few scenes were in sepia.

That technology was revolutionary for the time.”

3. I remember it well.

“The point where you’re introduced to the dinosaurs of Jurassic Park.

A turning point of CGI in movies along side the amazing score.

Still gives me goose bumps.”

4. A classic.

“12 Angry Men.

Juror 8 puts Juror 3’s coat on for him.

It means so much in context with the rest of the movie that just this small act of kindness can have that much of an impact on someone’s life.

It’s really beautiful.”

5. I love the smell of napalm…

“The Flight of the Valkyries scene from Apocalypse Now.

Kilgore’s air calvary taking Charlie’s point.”

6. Back in time!

“Back to the Future.

George punching Biff.

George kissing Lorraine and saving Marty from non-existence.

Marty successfully returning to 1985 just as Doc hooks up the lightning cable.

The Doc reveals he was wearing a bullet proof vest.

“Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need….roads”

The DeLorean flies into the camera – the END.

The whole end of the movie is one air-punch moment after another.”

7. What a great movie.

“Shawshank Redemption.

Spoiler ahead.

The way it is hyped that Andy might have committed suicide, it’s raining, its thunderous, he doesn’t come out the next day.

And then, we find out that he actually escaped.”

8. Unforgettable.

“”Get away from her you b*tch!”

Ellen Ripley to the Queen Alien

Smashed it.”

9. Solid.

“Gladiator.

Russell Crowe revealing himself as Maximus to Commodus in the arena was pretty legit.”

10. Powerful.

“Oskar Schindler, at the end of the film, realizing that he could’ve saved more Jews.

And Itzhak Stern and others telling him “He who saves a single life, saves the world entire.”

11. Intense.

“The opening of Saving Private Ryan.

Probably the most effective part of that scene is at the very beginning — the camera holds on several faces aboard the landing craft, leading the audience to believe these would be the protagonists, the main cast members.

Then you see one of them get nailed right in the forehead by enemy fire as soon as the doors open. Now you don’t know who is going to live or die, except for maybe Tom Hanks.”

12. Indiana Jones to the rescue.

“The angels coming out of the Ark of the Covenant looking beautiful and sublime, but then turning into terrifying beings that burn the Nazis to death in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Because the Nazis are evil.”

13. Goosebumps.

“The Lion King (1994).

When Simba is making his way up Pride Rock after defeating Scar and the Hyenas.

Incredibly powerful moment, and I still get goosebumps every time I watch that scene.”

14. Creepy stuff.

“The “What’s in the Box” scene from Seven.

I still have not rewatched that movie as the reveal was so epic I knew I could never feel that way about it again.”

15. Epic!

“The car chase from The Blues Brothers.

It’s a hundred and six miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark and we’re wearing sunglasses.”

16. Good memories.

“For me it’s the Millennium Falcon blasting out of the fireball of the second Death Star in Return of the Jedi.

I was 10 and I wanted to jump and run around the theater screaming in triumph right along with Lando and Nien Numb.”

17. Never gets old.

“Roy Scheider in Jaws.

A half burned cigarette hanging on his lip while chumming the water to entice the shark, then says “We’re gonna need a bigger boat” just after the shark momentarily pops his head from the water.”

Okay, film buffs, now we want to hear from you!

What are some of your favorite moments in cinema history?

Surprising Behind-the-Scenes Facts About Haunted Houses

As a teenager, going to haunted houses was about the only thing I enjoyed about Halloween.

This, even though they were in a terrible part of town where people actually got shot at least once, so my dad insisted he drive my friends and me in his minivan.

There’s just something so fun about being terrified, and if you happen to go with your crush? That’s a built in reason to grab their hand, my friends.

What goes on behind the scenes, though? I’m dying to find out, and Margee Kerr – a sociology professor at the University of Pittsburgh who moonlights as a consultant for ScareHouse (a local haunted house) – is ready to share!

8. You’re not imagining the smell.

There are entire companies out there helping design the smells inside of a haunted house – something, you know, that smells sort of like a rotting corpse but won’t actually make you vomit.

Kerr says Scare House uses several different scents, but one of them is boar urine. She says it’s “awful, but in a way that isn’t completely repulsive.”

Okay.

There’s a fine balance, she says, and it’s important to get it right.

“Something like bad breath is just going to make people disengage and move away. But there’s other smells that are weird and gross, yet that don’t take you out of the experience.”

Other haunted houses shy away from using strong scents, since they’re not something you can easily adapt if it’s not working for a particular group or evening.

7. Trends matter.

Kerr and others like her have been polling haunted house visitors regularly for years, to make sure that the scariest thing they can imagine in any given year is featured during their scares.

Zombies, ghosts, demons, witches, serial killers…everything is on the table, they just want to keep up with the times.

Kerr says that zombies are still high on people’s lists, and so are popular movie serial killers like Jason and Freddy, but that sideshow, clown-type freaks have also enjoyed a rise with the remake of It and the popularity American Horror Story.

6. Employees are trained to adapt.

Employees keep an eye on groups as they go through the house, and if they’re not scared or jumping enough, they’ll abandon the plot or progression and go straight for physiological jump-scares.

The opposite is also true, and “if someone is too scared we train our actors to back off …We want them to have nightmares for a week, not the rest of their lives!”

D. Brandon LeJeune, who manages the House of Torment in Austin, TX, says the goal is “to scare first and foremost, but when that doesn’t work out, we fall back to entertaining.”

He also agrees that guests are told to “inform a monster” if they are too scared to go on, and they will be escorted out – something that happens “on a very regular basis,” he admits.

Aside from these instances, though, staff largely stick to the script.

5. Cheap tricks can be super effective.

Oldies but goodies, like black-out rooms and strobe lights, are as effective as any high-dollar scares as far as getting the reactions haunted houses want.

Kerr also says that subtle movements, like walls that move slightly when you lean against them, and floors that are a bit too creaky or too rigid, all work to just throw people off their expectations.

Those, combined with good, old-fashioned startles, remain the fundamentals of every successful haunted house.

4. And sometimes simple is better.

Kerr says ScareHouse tried a scene in 2009 where there was a battle between good and evil, but the idea was too complex – it wouldn’t allow people to access their primal fear.

“That was a lesson in how simple is better – narrative thread good, narrative cobwebs bad…a little bit of narrative goes a long way.”

3. You should never let your guard down.

UPDATE: All ScareHouse tickets must now be purchased in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door. We have decreased the number of tickets sold each night to help with wait time and social distancing on the property. Tickets WILL sell out. Purchase online and early to reserve your date from scarehouse.com With capacity so limited many dates and timeslots will sell out. So if you’d like to visit on a certain date or time, no joke, get ‘em before they’re gone. There are many people out there who can sadly attest to being turned away because tickets were Sold Out on our opening weekend. Due to necessary Covid regulations set by local health officials our haunt feels a bit different and a bit shorter this year due to social distancing of our creatures, the temporary elimination of all touchpoints & tight spaces, and mandatory reduced occupancy for both guests and cast. But because of this limited capacity, haunt fans will enjoy shorter wait times and be able to enter the haunts with no one other than those in their personal bubble – it's just you and your friends alone in Pittsburgh's favorite haunted house. Just don’t forget your mask!

If you’re feeling like you have a moment to breathe, it’s probably because something is about to scare the bejeesus out of you, says Elizabeth Harper, an LA-based lighting designer.

“If you subvert the patter, the audience has a moment of relief where they feel like they’ve escaped unscathed – and that’s your opportunity to really scare them.”

One employee describes how they manage this within one of their scenes:

“In the morgue, visitors see a rib cage slowly lifting up.

While they’re turned and looking at that, it allows the actors to slowly creep out of their scare pockets and slide right to the middle of the group.”

And that, my friends, is when the real scare happens.

2. They produce a natural high.

Some people have linked those feel-good feelings with being scared, others enjoy the feeling of accomplishment at conquering something that scares them, and other people just love horror, but either way, there’s a good chance you’ll get a mood boost from your night at the haunted houses.

Kerr says,

“The adrenaline, the dopamine, the endorphins that course through your body – the scary material is just a trigger for that kind of response with some people.”

Yeah, you know you like it!

1. They may be a way to connect with more primal humans.

ScareHouse returns this fall.

A post shared by ScareHouse (@scarehouse) on

Modern humans evolved in places where threats were constant, but today, we’re not usually facing life-or-death situations (thank goodness!).

We’re happy about that, of course, but Kerr says those facts can make it hard to imagine exactly what it felt like to be a primitive human.

“For many Americans, their emotional expressions on a day-to-day basis are very narrow.

We’re not having many highs or lows. We’re living a more restricted emotional life.

I think that’s why we go out to scary movies and haunted houses – we evolve to have this massive range of emotional experiences, and we still want them.”

So, go and feed your primitive, dark side, is what she’s saying – it’s only human, after all!
