These 20 Iconic Movie Scenes Brought People to Tears

We’ve all cried at a movie at one point or another. My personal experiences usually have to do with animals in sad movie scenes. People…not so much.

A Reddit user asked, “Which movie scene brought you to tears?” and here are the moving responses.

Here come the waterworks.

1. Coco

“”The ending of Coco, when Mama Coco recognizes the song that Miguel is singing despite her dementia because her father used to play it when she was a kid. Wow okay, I’m getting emotional just thinking about it.””

2. Gladiator

“The whole last five minutes of Gladiator: “I will see you again my friend, but not yet… not yet.”

3. 12 Years a Slave

“12 Years A Slave, seeing his grown children after he escapes back to the north. Seeing his granddaughter brought me to tears like a blubbering idiot.”

4. Guardians of the Galaxy 2

“I don’t do crying, especially movies. They’re not real people. But when the Ravagers showed up for Yondu’s funeral, someone was cutting a helluva lot of onions in the theatre…”

5. The Truman Show

“Final scene in The Truman Show where he turns to the camera and says, ‘In case I don’t see ya! Good afternoon, good evening and goodnight.’”

6. Good Will Hunting

“I feel like this movie has lost its hype but re-watching it last week and seeing Robin Williams breaking Matt Damon down into tears is just such a powerful scene. 10/10 movie would and will watch again.”

7. Up

“My grandmother had just passed away after an emotional week of ups and downs in the hospital. My wife and I decided to go to the movies just to take our minds off from recent events. Up was the movie we went to see. Other than the not having kids part, it was like watching my grandparents on screen. I doubt there will ever be a scene in a movie that will hit me harder than that.”

8. The Green Mile

“The execution scene from The Green Mile, Michael Duncan Clarke was the first actor that ever made me cry.”

9. 50/50

“50/50 going into surgery. This movie is so looked-over, but it’s honestly probably the best performances of Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen.”

10. Schindler’s List

“At the end of Schindler’s List, when he’s looking at his few possessions left, and thinks of how many more people he could have saved if he sold the car, or whatever.”

11. Toy Story 3

“Toy Story 3 when the gang accepts their presumed fate in the incinerator and all reach out for one another, the worst being when Woody finally gives in and takes Buzz’s hand. I always thought this part hit harder than Andy leaving after giving the toys to Bonnie, that always felt more bittersweet than anything.”

12. Interstellar

“Interstellar when he watches the videos of his kids aging 25 years in front of his eyes.”

13. The Land Before Time

“In the movie The Land Before Time….. When Little Foot’s mom dies….made me cry as a kid when It first came out in 1988…makes me cry now.”

14. Inside Out

“I watched that when I was 38 years old, and I cried like a little girl with a skinned knee. Like straight up ugly-face, snot-bubble, breath-hitching sobbed.

The lady I was seeing at the time not only didn’t cry, but didn’t understand why I did. I’m not saying that’s the reason we’re not together, but I’m not denying that it was a factor.”

15. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

“The beach running scene from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. After what that movie put me through, I just lost it then.”

16. Ghost

“At the end of Ghost, as I was wiping away tears, I saw my-brother-in-law hand my husband a dollar bill. ‘Told you she would be in tears by the end.’”

17. The Pursuit of Happyness

“The ending of The Pursuit of Happyness got me. When he got the job, I had held it together up until then but I just let it out. It just resonated so much with me because my parents really struggled as immigrants and worked very hard to give my siblings and me a better life. Great movie.”

18. Pan’s Labyrinth

“The ending of Pan’s Labyrinth made me ugly cry for about an hour. Then I was irrationally angry at Guillermo del Toro for years after. He wrote and directed it and it destroyed me. Damn it, I’m starting to cry just thinking about it.”

19. Titanic

“That scene in Titanic where the old couple is lying on their bed holding each other, they’ve lived a long life and have accepted that it’s now the end. Idk it gets me every time.”

20. My Girl

“The funeral scene from My Girl. Doesnt matter what part of the movie I walk in on, it’ll always make me start bawling.”

5 Facts You Should Know About the Great ‘Mad Magazine’ to Honor Its Legacy

I never thought this day would come, but MAD magazine is coming to an end (more or less). After 67 years of publishing, it will now only be releasing new material once per year. Otherwise, MAD magazine will be reprinting old material.

MAD magazine has a special place in the hearts of many. It’s irreverent and unapologetically political, calling out everything and everyone. Here are five facts you should really know about Mad magazine:

1. “Weird” Al was a guest editor

MAD named “Weird” Al Yankovic as their very first guest editor, which seems like a match made in heaven. He brought in several celebrity contributors, including Patton Oswalt and Seth Green. According to Entertainment Weekly, MAD is responsible for setting him on the “dark, twisted path to becoming who I am today.”

2. Fred Astaire danced as Alfred E. Neuman

Yep, this actually happened. Fred Astaire decided to do a dance number on a 1959 TV special made up as Alfred E. Neuman. There are really no words. I’ll just leave the video here:

3. The unknown origin of Alfred E. Neuman

No one really knows where Alfred came from. He was an advertising mascot for several brands in the early 1900s, and he may have his roots in comics as far back as the 1890s. Harvey Kurtzman, founder of MAD, claims he spotted Alfred on a postcard and named him after composer Alfred Neuman.

4. The creator of “Spy vs. Spy” was accused of being a spy

Antonio Prohias, the creator of “Spy vs. Spy,” was born in Cuba and started his cartooning career there. He was an award-winning journalist in Cuba, and once Fidel Castro came to power, his cartoons began criticizing Castro’s policies. This lead the government of Cuba to accuse him of working for the CIA. Prohias resigned from his newspaper job and eventually immigrated to the U.S. He spoke no English, but his daughter helped to translate, and he walked into the MAD magazine offices, showed his work, and was hired on the spot.

5. MAD didn’t run ads for four decades

One of MAD’s best features was its hilarious satire ads. They took on cigarette makers, shampoo ads and more. To be able to truly skewer advertisers, they decided not to run real ads, making the magazine an expensive proposition (most magazines make their money from ad revenue). MAD finally had to start running ads in 2001, but its satirical ads continued.

What’s your favorite MAD magazine memory?

20 Underrated Horror Movies You Should Check out ASAP

I unapologetically love horror movies. All of ’em. I love cheesy ones from the ’80s, I love masterpieces like The Shining, I love foreign ones, I love ones that fly under the radar.

Buzzfeed asked their Community what they think are underrated horror films that are often overlooked.

Here are 20 that you should check out ASAP, complete with comments from the Buzzfeed Community. Try not to get too creeped out watching these trailers…

1. Zombie (1979)

“This is a different kind of zombie movie that is not only crazy awesome with the effects, but gives you a chuckle every once in a while with how outlandish some of the dialogue is. It is truly a must-see for all of my zombiephiles out there.”

2. Sleepaway Camp (1983)

“This movie disturbed me on so many levels. The subject matter covered and some of the imagery they got away with 36 years ago is shocking by today’s standards.”

3. Hell House, LLC. (2015)

“This movie truly made me piss-in-my-pants level scared for the first time EVER. It’s a found-footage horror film about a small group of friends who find older houses/locations to host incredibly scary haunted houses in around the country. It has a really good mix of jump scares and suspense and kept me lying awake in bed for hours after watching it.”

4. The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014)

“It has a really good story that actually takes the time to develop while maintaining all the best elements of horror. I’ve seen it several times and people I have suggested it to agree with me.”

5. In the Mouth of Madness (1994)

“Truly the most underrated of John Carpenter’s films. This one completely freaked me and my husband out. I don’t want to give TOO much away, but let’s just say that it definitely does NOT have a feel-good ending.”

6. Dead Alive (1992)

“This is just a classic in the camp/gore genre. We can’t be friends unless you’ve at least given it a chance!”

Also, Peter Jackson of The Lords of the Rings fame directed this splatterfest.

7. Resolution (2012)

“This one does Cabin in the Woods better than Cabin in the Woods. It has a lot of fun with the horror genre without ever going over-the-top. It’s a great film in general and I often tell people it’s the best horror movie post-2000.”

8. Macabre (2009)

“If you haven’t seen this Indonesian horror/thriller, then you need to jump on Amazon and buy it ASAP. What starts off as a simple “finding a stranger in distress while driving” story quickly leads to the most excellent game of cat-and-mouse I’ve seen on-screen in a very long time.”

9. Found (2012)

“A 12-year-old boy finds out his horror-film obsessed teenage brother has a human head in his closet. I don’t want to spoil anything past that, but it is disturbing and unexpected from beginning to end.”

10. High Tension (2003)

“I’ve never been more disturbed in the first 15 minutes of a movie than when I first watched this one. It’s highly suspenseful and incredibly violent. A well done movie, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to watch it again.”

11. Mirrors (2008)

“I worked myself up to a near heart attack each time I got in the shower for at least a week (probably two) after seeing this movie. Seriously, the first time I showered after I saw this, I was so freaked out that I actually whimpered when I thought I saw something move from the corner of my eye. I was 25 at the time.”

12. Under the Skin (2013)

“This is an unsettling, beautifully-shot film starring Scarlett Johansson, in what I personally think is her best role to date. It’s about an alien seductress…and I’ll leave it at that. DO NOT look up spoilers or trailers, just watch it — if you can make it through to the end.”

13. Ghost Story (1981)

“I think this one’s underrated just because it’s largely been forgotten. Spoilers, but there’s a scene where they try to cover up the woman’s accidental death by pushing her car into the water, but she starts moving at the last minute before the car goes under and they realize they’ve murdered her…I saw that scene when I was a young kid and it burned into my memory. That was more disturbing to me than any jump scare.”

14. The Houses October Built (2014)

“It’s about this group of people making a documentary to find the most intense haunted house. It’s a little slow to start but, once stuff starts happening, it hits the fan full-force. For a while I forgot I was even watching a horror movie until it kicked in, and I think that made it even better because it catches you unaware.”

15. Creep (2014)

“This movie kept getting recommended to me on Netflix forever before I finally gave in and watched it. At just over an hour long, it’s so simple and only has two actors. It has a great sense of timing, making things really suspenseful. It was the first movie in a while that made me want to sleep with the lights on.”

16. Thirst (2009)

“It’s an absolutely amazing Korean horror film by the same director who made Oldboy about a priest-turned-vampire and his love interest. It’s so visually stunning and has a great plot.”

17. The Changeling (1980)

“My mom and I used to watch horror movies together all the time when I was a kid, and this one has stuck with me the most. It doesn’t rely on gratuitous gore. If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to!”

18. Stir of Echoes (1999)

“This was filmed in Chicago and I lived a block down from the house. I would absolutely dread passing it!”

19. Paperhouse (1988)

“It’s about a little girl who has nightmares about a house that she draws. Reality and fantasy begin mixing together, and her alcoholic dad is also a part of it. It’s spooky and weird and was made by the same director as the classic Candyman!”

20. The Forest (2016)

“I’ve seen many horror movies and this is probably one of the best I’ve seen so far. It’s generally terrifying, and it messes with your head.”

Happy watching! And remember…DON’T GO IN THERE!

Sesame Street Characters Reenacted ‘Sabotage’ by the Beastie Boys. Take a Look.

When the Sabotage video hit the airwaves, it was a game-changer. Suddenly, the Beasties were back on top and firmly in the public consciousness like they hadn’t been in years.

The Sabotage video was directed by Spike Jonze and was a throwback to 1970s-style cop TV shows such as Starsky and Hutch and Baretta. It was a brilliant idea and executed perfectly. To be honest, music videos had become a little boring by the time the Sabotage video came out in 1994, and the Beastie Boys injected some fun and humor back into MTV, which seemed to be all doom and gloom with the explosion of grunge. Here’s a refresher.

I think people can argue that the Sabotage video set the stage for such later classic videos as Weezer’s Buddy Holly.

The Sesame street video was made by Mylo the Cat (aka Adam Schleichkorn) using footage from the 1985 Sesame Street film Follow That Bird. He’s previously gained fame for video mashups such as Barney the Dinosaur doing The Notorious B.I.G’s Get Money.

Is it silly? Yes. Is it goofy? Absolutely.

The mashup works well for these videos because, like the original video, there’s a lot of running around and people getting chased, this time it just happens to be Big Bird.

I think this is one of the better mashup videos I’ve ever seen, to be honest. Here’s the entire video for you to enjoy.

Oh, and, RIP MCA.

Just watched the beginning of this INCREDIBLE story!! The first episode was so amazing and so inspiring! This pilot also came with its own twist ending; her father died. I was absolutely not expecting that. That breaks my heart! But look where she is now! She made it and he helped her there. He would be so proud! MPG has my heart forever! He was GREAT in this first episode. He reminds me of the early days of Alex Karev from Greys; he's an asshole but also the nicest person in the world and the one that will help anybody. 10 Facts About Chernobyl That Will Give You the Creeps

A devastating nuclear disaster took place at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the Soviet Union on April 26, 1986. The incident is back in the public consciousness right now due to the success of the HBO show Chernobyl that dramatizes the events surrounding the accident.

Much of what happened before, during, and after the 1986 event is still the cause of much debate due to the secrecy of the Soviet Union. But one thing is for sure: the Chernobyl accident is considered the worst nuclear power plant disaster in history.

Here are 10 facts about the terrifying Chernobyl disaster and its aftermath.

1. Casualty rate: Unknown

It’s sometimes strange how different paths in life come together and suddenly your path takes an unexpected direction. The path towards Chernobyl with @jonadbo. We have been there twice now and it remains such a special place because of its history. We ended up there to photograph abandoned locations and we got fascinated by the history. Ofcourse I have watched the HBO series and it’s made so accurate. It’s very realistic and I recognized so many places. I hope that the ghost town of Prypjat remains protected from mass tourism, that it does not deteriorate even more and that nature can still run its own way. So keep it nice. In the end we all have our reason to visit this city. The number of victims that can be blamed on the accident ranges anywhere from 4,000 to 90,000. Two people died in the initial blast, 29 people died from radiation sickness in the months after the accident, and there are literally thousands that may die from radiation-related causes in the future.

2. A gruesome death

One of the first firefighters who responded to the accident scene was Vasily Ignatenko. He suffered a terrible two-week death from his exposure to radiation, including excreting blood and mucus 25 times a day and coughing up pieces of his own internal organs.

3. Other ailments

View this post on Instagram

⚠ On April 26, 1986, the fourth block was destroyed, the reactor was completely destroyed. The largest accident of this kind in the history of nuclear energy, the estimated number of dead and wounded and economic damage. ⠀ ⚠ 134 people suffered radiation sickness. More than 115 thousand people from the 30-kilometer zone were evacuated. More than 600 thousand people took part in the aftermath of the accident. During the first three months after the accident, 31 people died, another 19 deaths from 1987 to 2004 can be explained by its direct consequences. ⠀ ⚠ Unlike the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the explosion resembled a very powerful "dirty bomb" – radioactive contamination became the main striking factor.

A post shared by ⚠ CHERNOBYL INSIDER (@chernobyl_insider) on

People in neighboring areas had to flee their homes and complained of such symptoms as “black spots,” bodies getting “fat, like a barrel,” and turning “black, like coal, and shrinking.”

4. Radiophobia

Because women were terrified of possible radiation poisoning, there were an estimated 100,000-200,000 abortions in Europe after the Chernobyl disaster.

5. Dead trees everywhere

The area around the nuclear power plant became known as The Red Forest because the trees died and turned a ginger color after the accident.

6. Lingerers

Although it’s illegal to live in the area around the plant known as the Zone of Alienation, or the Exclusion Zone, it’s estimated that 130-150 people still live there, many of them older women taking care of their family’s land.

7. Poor animals

If you’ve seen the show, you know that people were not allowed to evacuate with their pets. This actually happened and units were sent in to put the animals down.

8. But…there are still hundreds of dogs there

Descendants of the dogs who survived the aftermath of the disaster still live in the Exclusion Zone. There are an estimated 300 stray dogs here. You can help them out by donating HERE.

9. Tourist spot

Tourists can visit the Exclusion Zone, and it’s actually become pretty trendy after the success of the HBO show about the disaster.

10. Ghost town

There is an abandoned amusement park in nearby Pripyat that looks like something out of a horror film.

While it’s truly terrifying what happened at Chernobyl, the strength that the people of Russia have shown in the face of unimaginable devastation should be commended.

10+ Reasons Why “Chernobyl” Will Be Your New Obsession

Did you know that Chernobyl is the highest-rated television show ever on IMDB.

If those 3 reasons don’t convince you to watch, well…here are 12 more!

12. The ensemble cast is amazing

There’s no star of this show, which means we get to see how the disaster affected a wide range of people in different stages of “in the know.”

11. The production is flawless

From the direction and writing to the special effects and cinematography, Chernobyl is shot with as much care as any top-tier film.

10. Exhaustive research means the details are historically accurate

Screenwriter Craig Mazin tapped all sorts of resources while writing, including conversations with scientists, written testimonies, and published historical research.

You won’t have a favorite or someone you can universally root against – which means it’s as close to real life as it can get.

8. The critics love it

It’s 96% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes speaks for itself.

7. The truth of the story is legitimately terrifying

Chernobyl may not be classic horror, but considering the show chronicles real life events, it’s plenty scary.

If you’re not completely enraged by the end of it and asking yourself, “How could they just let all those people die needlessly?” …well, maybe see a therapist?

6. Like most history, it’s relevant

It might have happened in 1986, but the deep-dive into how unprepared governments can be to take on major incidents is so relevant even to this day.

Also, how tempting it can be to cover up mistakes feels equally (and painfully) relevant.

Will we ever learn?

5. The performances are award-worthy

You’ll have to take my word for it until award season arrives, but the case is top to bottom brilliant.

There’s not a single false or questionable performance in the bunch.

This show will run away with the Emmys. Guaranteed.

4. It’s a masterclass in building tension

It’s constantly winding you up to one new, horrible crescendo after another.

And, like the people who lived through it, none of us get a break. It just keeps going and going and going.

3. It has a feminist agenda

More than one woman is shown getting dismissed even though they know more than the man in charge.

Yeah, it’s infuriating, but there is some justice in the end.

2. You might learn a thing or two

Not only will you learn a bit about history, you might find yourself more knowledgable about radiation and physics while you’re at it.

No, hold that… you WILL know more about radiation and physics after you’re done watching it.

1. It’s a work of art

Every moment of every episode feels intentional and fully-realized, and the result makes it hard to look away from even the most horrible of scenes.

Seriously, just find a friend who hasn’t cancelled their HBO Go subscription yet and WATCH IT!
