10 Facts About Game Show Legend Bob Barker

Bob Barker is 95 years old, and he is still every bit the TV legend he was when he first hosted The Price is Right in 1972.

He actually started hosting his first game show all the way back in 1956, and he only retired from hosting The Price is Right in 2007. That’s 50 years!

And who could forget this classic clip featuring Barker from Happy Gilmore?

Let’s get to know the man behind the legend a little bit better with these 10 facts.

1. Early years.

Barker spent some of his youth on the Rosebud Indian Reservation in Mission, South Dakota. He is 1/8 Sioux.

9. Animal lover.

Bob Barker gave this incredible speech when ADI first introduced the Traveling Exotic Animal Protection Act to Congress in 2011. Nothing has changed in how Bob Barker describes the suffering of circus animals, but a lot has changed in the world. HERE ARE SIX REASONS WHY THE TIME IS RIGHT FOR THE TRAVELING EXOTIC ANIMAL AND PUBLIC SAFETY PROTECTION ACT (TEAPSPA; HR2863) NOW. Since 2011: 1. The number of national animal circus bans has more than doubled to 45 – including US neighbor Mexico. 2. Two states, New Jersey and Hawaii, have passed wild animal bans, and other states are considering bans. There are now 92 local circus prohibitions in 32 states including cities such as New York and San Francisco. 3. The number of animal circuses has fallen and the largest, Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus – which invested heavily to lobby against bans – closed due to declining audiences, as people have turned away from animal acts. 4. 20 animal protection groups are backing TEAPSPA. 5. There is more evidence of circus suffering and more public awareness than ever before. 6. TEAPA has been refined after discussions with legislators to strengthen the public safety aspects – hence it is now TEAPSPA. So now it’s up to YOU. Make that call, send that email, set up the meeting with your representative – get them to sponsor the bill. Then do it again. Don’t stop until this bill is passed. Start here – find your representatives and send an email NOW. TEAPSPA IS COMING. BE PART OF THE CHANGE. BE PART OF THE CAMPAIGN. 10. Love story.

Barker first went on a date with his wife Dorothy Jo when he was 15 years old. The two attended an Ella Fitzgerald concert (which is awesome). They were married from 1945 until her death in 1981, when she was 57. Bob Barker said he “never had any inclination to remarry.”

What a guy!

10 Facts About the Colorado Hotel Stephen King Stayed at When He Came up with “The Shining”

I love all-things horror, and the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, is definitely on my bucket list to visit someday. The hotel was author Stephen King’s inspiration for The Shining, which was published in 1977 and was made into a great horror film in 1980.

King published Doctor Sleep, the sequel to The Shining, in 2013, and the movie version was released just last week. While we’re at it, let’s take a look at the trailer for Doctor Sleep.

And now here are 10 interesting facts about the infamous Stanley Hotel.

1. One night stay

A post shared by ?????? ???? (@billie_jean_nah) on

King and his wife Tabitha stayed at the Stanley for one night back in 1974 when King was working as a teacher in Boulder, Colorado.

2. Solitary

The night that King and his wife stayed at the hotel, they were the only guests in the whole place. The Stanley was not a year-round hotel until 1982, and it was the end of the season the night the Kings stayed there.

3. A hard time.

A post shared by Brianna Olson (@_brianna.olson) on

In 1974, Stephen King was suffering from alcoholism and writer’s block.

4. The creepy room.

The Kings stayed in Room 217 the night of the visit, which he wrote into The Shining.

5. The clawfoot tub…

The tub in Room 217 inspired The Shining. King opened the curtain and said to himself, “What if somebody died here? At that moment, I knew I had a book.”

6. The bartender.

After his wife Tabitha went to sleep, King went to the hotel bar and the bartender was named Lloyd Delbert Grady. King used the bartender’s name as inspiration for the characters “Lloyd” the bartender and “Delbert Grady,” the previous caretaker.

7. No cash exchanged.

A post shared by The Shining (@theshiningofficial) on

King tried to give the bartender a $20 bill, and Lloyd Delbert Grady said, “Your money is no good here,” just like in the film. Because it was the end of the season, Grady didn’t want to add more money to his till.

8. But there was another kind of exchange.

Lloyd gave King a glass of whiskey for free, and the writer told him about some ideas he had for books. Lloyd told him personal stories about working at the hotel.

9. Step outside.

King had a nightmare the evening he slept at the Stanley. The next morning he woke up, smoked a cigarette on the balcony outside Room 217, and by the end of his smoke he had the beginning, middle, and end of The Shining in his head.

10. Booked up.

These days, if you want to reserve Room 217 at the Stanley Hotel, keep in mind that it’s usually booked up a year in advance.

There’s no doubt that Friends is one of the most popular TV shows of all time. The program ran from 1994 until 2004 and developed a rabid fan following during the years it was on NBC and in the years of re-runs since then.

The six stars of the show, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc, and the creators of Friends are all reportedly in talks to reunite on the HBO Max network, which launches in 2020.

One thing to keep in mind: according to reports, the new Friends special would be “unscripted.” So maybe it could be some kind of panel where the stars and the creators talk about the legacy and history of the show?

Time will tell…

But we’re excited to see if the gang gets back together again!

Happy International Day of FRIENDShip! #Friends25

On October 27, Jennifer Aniston said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, “We would love for there to be something, but we don’t know what that something is. So we’re just trying. We’re working on something.”

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this comes to fruition and no one backs out or the idea just fizzles out. I’m down for this reunion. Are you?

Pixar Has a Movie Coming out About Death, and the First Promo Alone Is Way Too Much

If you enjoy Pixar, then you, like the rest of us, have begun to realize that their writers and creators sustain themselves on the tears of their viewers.

Between the beginning of Up, pretty much every moment of Toy Story (all of them), the short film Lava, and BingBong’s death in Inside Out, I’m a blubbering mess of tears just thinking about subjecting myself to another one.

So when I heard they were making a movie called Soul – which is about death – well, I…I’m honestly just not sure I’ll be able to handle it.

The film stars Jamie Foxx and will follow Joe, a middle school band teacher who dreams of playing jazz music in a NYC club before he dies.

He gets a gig…and then dies falling in a manhole cover.

That’s just the beginning of the movie, you guys.

After that, he finds himself at the You Seminar – the pace where we all get our souls – and meets Tina Fey (who is likely to be iconic, because duh), but honestly we don’t know too much about where the plot will go from there.

Yet.

The animation looks amazing, of course, and the writing will be stellar. If, you know, I’m able to hear and appreciate all of that over the sound of our collective sobs.

May the odds be ever in our favor.

‘The Office’ Version of ‘Clue’ Lets Players Figure out Who Killed Toby

If you’ve spent time watching the American version of The Office, you know that Toby Flenderson is always the whipping boy. Michael Scott, the mediocre bossman, can’t stand the sight of Toby and lets him know every chance he gets that he’d prefer Toby quit his job and not show his face around the office any longer.

So it makes perfect sense that in the Clue The Office board game, players are tasked with finding out who killed poor Toby, where the murder took place, and what weapon was used.

In the game, you can play as one of six characters: Jim Halpert, Pam Beesly, Dwight Schrute, Angela Martin, Stanley Hudson, or Andy Bernard. You can’t play as Michael Scott because, as you might have guessed, he will be doing everything he can to get in the way of your investigation. The mystery will take you throughout the Dundler-Mifflin universe, including such spots as the warehouse, the kitchen, Michael’s office, and the employee parking lot.

It looks like the board game is currently out of stock on the Hot Topic website, but keep an eye on that link if you want a chance at scoring one. It may even be worth it to venture to *GASP* your local shopping mall to see if they have one of these babies in stock because they’re going for $200 on Amazon.

This would make a great gift for the holidays though, wouldn’t it? We all know how many people out there are obsessed with The Office, so get busy hunting for one of these ASAP. Got it? Good!
