Ed Sheeran Has Spent Millions Buying Houses and Property from His Complaining Neighbors

This ma is living the dream. Ed Sheeran has all the money he could ever want, and he’s been using it to slowly buy up all the property around his farmhouse in Framlingham, England, supposedly to build himself a “mini-village.”

That sounds like paradise to me. No neighbors, no hassle, no problems.

No.6 went #1 today and Beautiful People went #1 in the singles chart, which makes it the second #1 from this project….

Posted by Ed Sheeran on Friday, July 19, 2019

And by “buying up all the property,” I mean buying OUT his neighbors. Sheeran bought a farmhouse and some land around it in 2012 for just over $1 million (we’re talking US currency here). He then bought the house next door for about $550,000. Fast forward to 2016 and Sheeran purchased another nearby house for $1.1 million. The following year, the singer dished out $640,000 for a bungalow across the street.

Not only is Sheeran buying these properties, but he’s putting a lot of work back into them and the house he originally purchased. Sheeran was granted permission to build a kidney-shaped pool on the condition that it would also be a natural habitat to attract wildlife, but his plans for the pool got his neighbors peeved.

Ed Sheeran's home in Framlingham, Suffolk.

Neighbors were annoyed when Sheeran placed hay bales around the pool to block neighbors’ views, and they accused him of using the water for recreation instead of a wildlife attraction, as originally decided. His neighbors have also complained that the famous singer has plans to build a giant treehouse and a chapel on his property.

So, what to do? Drop some cash on ’em, of course! Then no one can complain! And that’s exactly what Sheeran continues to do. Because he can.

This Is How People in Great Britain Manage During the Relentless Heatwave

Whether you buy the (verified) science of climate change or prefer to live with your head buried in the sand, there’s no denying that it has been H-O-T in the United Kingdom this summer.

Like…it’s never actually been this hot before, and people don’t know how they’re supposed to live with it.

Heathrow Airport saw a record-setting July temperature of 98.4 degrees while Cambridge hit triple digits for only  the second time in the history of recorded temperatures, and England wasn’t alone – France shattered its previous high record with a temperature of 108 degrees, and countries across Europe sweltered under the same kind of conditions.

Residents have had to think on their feet, and if the 20 pictures below prove anything, it’s that people are endlessly creative.

Whether or not the solutions are sustainable (or effective) well… you can decide for yourself.

A Vet’s Office Thought They Were Treating an Exotic Bird, but It Was Just Covered in Curry

Some folks recently brought what they believed to be an exotic, orange bird to the Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in England because they saw it stranded on the side of the road looking like it couldn’t fly.

Looks pretty exotic to me.

Posted by Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital on Monday, July 1, 2019

Ooohhhhh, I wonder what species it could be…

So the vets got to work treating the bird.

Posted by Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital on Monday, July 1, 2019

And what did they discover? The bird was actually a seagull covered in curry.

The Facebook post from the animal hospital read:

“This is one of the strangest casualty circumstances we have seen in a while! This bright-orange herring gull was rescued by kind members of the public who spotted him at the side of the A41. When they called to say they had picked up an orange bird, we had no idea what to expect – and would never have guessed at this!

He had somehow gotten himself covered in curry or turmeric! It was all over his feathers, preventing him from flying properly. We have no idea how he got into this predicament but thankfully, apart from the vibrant colour and pungent smell, he was healthy.

Our veterinary team bravely bathed the gull (now named Vinny after a Vindaloo curry) to clean off his feathers. He managed to cover them in curry water, but eventually did let us scrub him clean.

He is now looking much better and should be able to go for release very soon! As we say, we never know what will come through our doors next!

Huge thanks to the lovely finders who stopped to rescue him.”

Vindaloo, I mean Vinny, is now doing just fine. But he needs to avoid all Indian food for the time being…

10 Ghost Tours That Will Seriously Give You the Creeps

I really, really love all things creepy. I’m talking about scary movies, scary books, scary everything.

If you like to dabble in scary tourism, this is just the list for you.

Today we take a look at 10 real-life, creepy tours recommended by the Buzzfeed community that are guaranteed to give you a good scare.

1. The Stanley Hotel – Estes Park, Colorado

“The Stanley Hotel (where The Shining was filmed) offers guided tours, and you can even spend the night in specific rooms that are reported to have ‘higher than usual activity.’ The guide said many people died building the hotel, and their ghosts will often come out to ensure guests are enjoying it.

While on the tour, one of the guides encouraged me to take a picture in this one dark hallway. When I had the film developed, there were two orbs, one on each side of me, clear as could be. So spooky.”

2. The Jennie Wade House – Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

“After taking pictures on the Jennie Wade House tour, a bunch of my friends and I had photos turn out really strangely— there were giant clouds and shadows in weird spots.

At one point, we also heard footsteps upstairs and thought it was the other tour group, but then we found out they were in the basement.

A chain that was blocking off a section began to swing in circles with nobody touching it — scary!”

3. Zak Bagans’ Haunted Museum – Las Vegas, Nevada

“Zak Bagans’ Haunted Museum is located in a mansion that the state of Nevada deemed haunted after they found a pentagram, human flesh, and streaks of blood in it in the ’70s.

It contains 30 rooms of artifacts from Zak’s personal collection, including an allegedly demonic chair that was used during the Ed and Lorraine Warren exorcisms!”

4. Jack the Ripper Tour – London, England

“Last Halloween, a few friends and I went on the Jack the Ripper guided tour in London. Our host was amazing — she took us on a walk to all the spots where the murders had happened and the victims were found. She had photos and went into a LOT of detail about the killings.

The night itself was freezing cold, which literally added to the chill of everything!”

5. The Waverly Hills Sanatorium – Louisville, Kentucky

“I did an overnight paranormal investigation at the Waverly Hills Sanatorium just for fun, not believing I’d experience anything paranormal. It was life-changing!

I saw and heard things that night that I never thought could happen. It was both terrifying and fascinating.

I’d do it again any day.”

6. Manly Quarantine Station – Sydney, Australia

“Q Station is by far the scariest tour ever!! There’s so much amazing history to the place, which has pitch black buildings, cold spots, and decontamination showers.

Oh, and a couple of jump scares thrown in for good measure!”

7. French Quarter Ghost & Legends Tour – New Orleans, Louisiana

“This tour in the French Quarter of New Orleans is such a fun and interesting tour of all of the crazy happenings down there. It is especially terrifying to go see the Lalaurie Mansion, home of serial killer Madame Lalaurie.

Nic Cage used to own the home but he would never spend the night because of what had happened in it!”

8. The Crescent Hotel – Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Its National Paranormal Day! ? So let's throw it back to 2012 when me and my uncle were into Ghost Hunting and he took us on a road trip from Missouri to the infamous Crescent Hotel located in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Honestly, a really beautiful place with a chilling history. The Crescent Hotel is known to be one of the most haunted hotels in America. It was first a resort for the rich that became a hospital for cancer patients. Unfortunately, the "doctor" Norman Baker was running scams and likely performing dangerous experiments on the patients leading to their death. He was found to not have any medical training and was eventually arrested. When we went, we only caught a few orbs (seen in a few of the pics) on the haunted tour and my mom's arm got yanked while she was sleeping. Yes, we stayed overnight! What's crazy is that recently there has been an unearthing of jars filled with body parts. This discovery happened after the recent Ghost Adventures visit in February! Plus, they even have a cat ghost!!!”

“The Sorrel-Weed House Tour is all fun and games until you descend into the basement.

It’s hands down the creepiest place I’ve ever set foot in. I just couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being watched.”

10. The Joshua Ward House Tour – Salem, Massachusetts

“When I went on a tour of the Joshua Ward House — which was once the home of a High Sheriff in the Salem Witch Trials — I was suddenly overwhelmed by a chilling feeling when I was standing by the basement.

The next day, a bruise in the shape of a bite mark from HUMAN TEETH showed up on my ankle!”

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Released the First Picture of Baby Archie

It’s the moment millions of people all around the world have been looking forward to with excitement. Nothing gets certain people more riled up than the personal lives of the British Royal Family, and this is a big moment for them.

On Mother’s Day, shortly after Archie was born, the couple released a cute photo of the little guy’s feet, but since then everyone’s been patiently waiting for more than a month to catch a glimpse of the baby’s face.

As a nice tribute in the Mother’s Day photo, Princess Diana’s favorite flowers, forget-me-nots, are seen in the background.

Archie was born over a month ago on May 6, 2019, and waiting for the official reveal has been excruciating for some folks.

Well, wait no more, because…here’s Archie!

At least, here’s most of his face. And, fittingly, the couple released the photo on Father’s Day, and it shows Archie cradled in Harry’s arms.

The baby’s full name is…wait for it…Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Sounds pretty royal to me. The little guy is seventh in the line of succession to the British throne.

You know that without a doubt we’ll get to see this child grow up in the spotlight. Royal Baby Fever!

Apparently, “Milk Coke” Is a Thing – and Twitter Is NOT Having It

People are really partial to their beverages of choice, but I don’t think I’ve seen an uproar like this since the release of Crystal Pepsi back in the ’90s.

A comedy writer from Birmingham, England named James Felton got the Twitter-verse all fired up when he posted about an interesting drink combination: milk and Coke.

Take a look at this.

FYI, “Brummies” are people from Birmingham. I don’t know about you, but this sounds extremely disgusting, and I don’t think I’ll be taking the plunge anytime soon.

I’m not alone in my feelings.

STOP THIS MADNESS!

And then this guy had to jump in and defend Mr. Felton.

And finally, this guy reacted in the way that any sane, rational person would.

What do you think? Have you tried this combination? Sound off in the comments below!

6 Incredible Ancient Finds Discovered by Workers Expanding the London Underground

The funny thing about people is that we’re kind of lazy. Instead of making entirely new cities out of scratch, we’re just like “Hey, why not just build right on top of this existing city? Way easier, amirite guys?”

As a result, digging around in cities can reveal all kinds of interesting things from the past. That’s what happened during the 2009-2018 expansion of the London Underground. Here are six totally neat things that came out of England’s latest modernization.

#1. A rare Roman medallion

Archaeologists who excavated Crossrail’s Liverpool Street uncovered more than 100 copper Roman coins and a bit of silver currency that ranged from 43 CE to 348 CE.

There was also a rare bronze medallion issued to mark the new year 245 CE. It was presented by Emperor Phillip I to a high-ranking government official and is the only one of its kind to date.

#2. A 55-million-year-old piece of amber

Engineers found the piece of amber from 50 feet below the dock bed beneath Canary Wharf before construction officially began – it’s the oldest amber ever to be found in London.

Don’t worry, no one has reported a mosquito containing dinosaur blood (yet). It did contain bubbles of trapped gasses that could yield new scientific insights about climate change.

#3. Victims of the Black Death

Archaeologists unearthed dozens of Black Death-related skeletons beneath London’s Charterhouse Square back in 2013 – the remains indicated that the people died during 14th and 15th century pandemics. Their teeth contained DNA traces of Yersinia pestis, the bacteria that caused the bubonic plague, and carbon dating indicated the burial ground had been used from 1348-1350 and again during the 1430s.

Not all of the skeletons were plague victims, however, suggesting the burial ground was for dead in general.

#4. A humorous Victorian chamber pot

When you’re poo-ing in something that has to be dumped manually, a sense of humor seems to be a no-brainer – and this chamber pot found during Stepney Green Station in East London verifies my assumption. It was found in a 19th-century cesspit filled with tobacco pipes and fragments of pots like this chamber pot that contains a cartoon of a grimacing man and the phrase “Oh what I see/I will not tell. …when you in it want to p*ss/remember they who gave you this.”

Ha!

#5. A cluster of Roman skulls

In 2013, workers at the Liverpool Street station site dug up Roman pottery and around 20 Roman skulls. Similar skulls have been found in the area, and some archaeologists suspect they belonged to rebels led by the Iceni warrior-queen Boudicca, who revolted against the Empire during the 1st Century CE.

These skulls, however, appear to date after the uprising, and likely washed out of a Roman cemetery long ago.

#6. An 8,000-year-old tool

At North Woolrich, in southeast London, scientists discovered a Mesolithic-era site near the Thames where early humans crafted tools 8500-6000 years ago. There were traces of campfires, flint pieces, and an 8,000-year-old stone tool.

The find is only one of a handful that confirms humans lived in the Thames valley after an Ice Age hiatus.

I’m all for progress if it means finding more delightful things like these!

A Man Found an Amazing Collection of LGBTQ Artifacts Stashed Away in a Loft

When Gavin McGregor discovered two bags stashed away in his London loft, he didn’t think much about it until he took a much closer look. When he finally searched through the bags, he found that he’d stumbled upon a treasure trove of LGBTQ artifacts from the 1980s.

McGregor quickly realized that he had a significant time capsule of the LGBTQ scene.

And the second bag contained even more impressive finds.

McGregor also found the manuscript of a novel and tried to get in touch with the writer.

Bill Albert replied that he had submitted his novel to a short-lived publishing company that was run by two people: one now lived in South Africa and the other was Paud Hegarty, who had died from AIDS nearly 20 years ago. McGregor thought that the deceased Paud Hegarty might have been the man behind the artifact collection.

McGregor decided to donate the collection to Gay’s The Word to honor Hegarty’s legacy.

McGregor said, “I’ve received fascinating, moving, personal memories and stories from a range of people already, telling stories and sharing memories.” What a great story.

What’s the Difference Between England, Britain, and the U.K.?

This is a question I hear people talking about all the time. If you don’t live there, it can be confusing…What’s the difference between England, Britain, and the U.K.?

Let’s start with the countries. The United Kingdom is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. All of these are separate countries that fall under the U.K. umbrella and have some autonomy. A lot of people (at least ones I’ve talked to) make the mistake of thinking the Republic of Ireland is part of the U.K., but it is its own sovereign country.

Great Britain is actually the largest island in the British Isles (which also includes the island of Ireland and 186 other inhabited islands).

The term “British” can cause some confusion for people. It can refer to the U.K. as a whole, the island of Great Britain, or to the current and former British colonies, such as Bermuda and the British Virgin Islands.

So as you can see, as long as you do a little research, you won’t sound like a dummy next time you have to speak to someone from that part of the world!
