My mom and dad rescued a dog about a year ago named Coco.

She’s funny, smart, sassy, rambunctious…and she sleeps in some very strange positions that continue to surprise my folks on almost a daily basis.

What is she going to do today?

Perhaps some kind of odd yoga pose that we haven’t seen yet? Maybe a twisted head and neck routine that reminds us all of Linda Blair as the possessed child in The Exorcist?

The possibilities are really endless and so are the laughs!

Person Has a Clever Dog That Puts Itself in Time Out and We’re Fascinated

We all know that dogs are smarter than us.

Exhibit A – my dog whines like a maniac if I work one minute past 5 pm.

But a recent Tumblr post revealed that sometimes a good boy is more than just smart.

Colorado based @mothsplaining has a couple of different Tumblr accounts dedicated to, among other things, gorgeous pictures of beautiful dogs.

One of them is a Sheltie named Karybelle… who’s QUITE a looker.

This amazing dog went viral last year after @mothsplaining posted about a training exercise. The note read:

Over the last several months, we have been implementing a protocol to eliminate karybelle the sheltie’s barking surrounding her mealtimes.

We have accomplished this by initially introducing an alternate activity during prep time (stuffed kong) and religiously giving her a time out gated in the yard if she stops that activity to bark, thus delaying her dinner until she’s quiet.

Who knew you could give a dog a time out?

Something tells me this would not work with my dog, who is not trained in the slightest.

But for Karybelle, it worked!

This has been extremely successful; She’s gone from barking literally 100+ times during meal prep to barking 0 times, and only occasionally slips up.

Proving that Karybelle is a very good dog. But there’s always a trade-off, isn’t there?

The behavior she has chosen to replace her meal-prep-screaming (after all, that energy has to go somewhere) is frantically – but silently – running circles around the coffee table to finally slam into a perfect down-stay as her bowl is set down.

10 out of 10. Karybelle nailed the landing.

But sometimes even good doggos have to make a little noise.

This evening as the food was coming out, karybelle seamlessly slipped into her silent circling routine. except after a couple of reps, she abruptly changed course, yeeted herself out the dog door, barked once, and immediately jumped back in to resume her circling.

She actually PUT HERSELF into timeout for a second!

If that isn’t a demonstration of crystal clear understanding of criteria, i…don’t know what is lmao.

Fellow Tumblrs were appropriately amused. Even if they’re not Kong-using pet parents.

The Crocodile Huntress Bindi Irwin Recreates a Special Photo-Op for Her Late Father

I love animals, and I was obsessed with The Crocodile Hunter back in the day.

While I was recovering from a difficult surgery, Steve Irwin’s “Danger, danger, danger,” was the fastest way to make me smile.

So of course I follow his daughter Bindi’s Instagram to keep up-to-date on what’s happening in the Irwin lives and at Australia Zoo.

Bindi and her family post a lot of great pictures to Instagram.

Whether they are pictures of the family helping animals, traveling, or just hanging out at home, they are always delightful and sure to please, like this group photo she posted recently:

It features her mom Terri, brother Robert, husband Chandler, and showcases Bindi’s baby bump.

Bindi and Robert are so much like their parents that it’s scary sometimes.

Steve definitely did an amazing job in the short time he had, to pass down his love of wildlife and his passion for conservation.

Like her parents, Bindi met her future husband during a tour of the family’s zoo.

After a years-long, intercontinental courtship, Chandler finally popped the question in 2019.

Now he’s part of the Australia Zoo family too, and honestly, I’m not sure there’s a more welcoming place on earth.

In many ways, Chandler is a lot like Steve-o.

That post, featuring an Australian Carpet Python, sure does remind me of a famous picture of Steve.
(And the UPS commercials where he used to pretend to get bitten.)

Unfortunately in the spring of 2020, Bindi and Chandler’s wedding plans had to be modified due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But that didn’t stop them from enjoying the gorgeous day with family and close friends.

You can’t help but think that Steve would have been thrilled.

Especially later in the year when they made their very special announcement.

Once they found out she was pregnant, I bet Bindi couldn’t wait to recreate her family’s iconic photo.

Neither could her followers! The post has been favorited over 1 million times!

Just like Steve and Terri, it is obvious that Bindi and Chandler will be great parents.

And the world will be better off for the new Wildlife Warrior they are bringing into it.
