Most of the popular Christmas songs, including “White Christmas”, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, and “Let it Snow” were all written by Jews.
In 1943, Irving Berlin presented himself with the Best Song Oscar at the 15th Academy Awards for creating the Christmas song “White Christmas”. Upon opening the envelope and seeing his name, Berlin informed the audience, “I’m glad to present the award. I’ve known him for a long time.”
Many of the modern holiday standards, including “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”, “A Holly Jolly Christmas”, “Silver and Gold”, and “Run Rudolph Run” were written by a single Jewish American songwriter named Johnny Marks.
After the release of Gayla Peevey’s “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” (1953) a campaign was launched to give her a hippopotamus for Christmas. The campaign succeeded & she was presented with an actual hippopotamus, which she donated to the city zoo. The hippopotamus lived for nearly 50 years.
