7 Actors Who Admitted to Drinking On the Job

Let’s just all raise our hands here and admit it: we’ve all had days on the job where we could’ve used a good, stiff drink… not after the day is done, but right smack in the middle of it. It’s just the way of work – there are days where it gets boring or just plain annoying (if you’re in customer service).

While actors certainly have one of the most exciting professions out there, it’s still a job, Sometimes, they need to have a few drinks too! Maybe they are bored, maybe they’re nervous, maybe they just want to relieve the tension of their job and their life for a little while.

These actors all admitted that they drank while filming some blockbuster movies, which makes the movies just a bit more interesting.

Labeouf drank moonshine to get into character for his role in the film Lawless, where he played a bootlegger during the Prohibition years. It’s called dedication to the role.

2. Margot Robbie

Robbie admitted she was pretty nervous to do a sex scene with Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street, so she pounded three shots of tequila at 9 a.m. before filming the scene.

3. Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis

Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis had a pretty racy sex scene in Black Swan, and director Darren Aronofsky said the two women had a few drinks before the camera started rolling.

4. Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel Radcliffe admitted he had a drinking problem earlier in his film career. He admitted to showing up drunk on set while making the Harry Potter film series. Radcliffe told the Daily Mail, “I went into work still drunk. I can point to many scenes where I’m just gone. Dead behind the eyes. I have a very addictive personality. It was a problem.”

5. Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick was given a real beer instead of non-alcoholic beer during the making of Drinking Buddies and she admitted she got pretty drunk. She said, “I was pounding beer, and I didn’t realize it was real until halfway through the take. I was like, I’m super drunk right now!”

Lawrence admitted to David Letterman that she got bored while filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and she’d drink pina coladas in her trailer. Gotta kill the boredom somehow.

Pitt and Norton starred in the now-iconic film Fight Club together, and they shared many memorable scenes. Remember the one where they drunkenly hit golf balls together? Director David Fincher decided to film that scene because the two actors were drunk and he wanted to catch some of their antics on film.

The Secret Life of Keanu Reeves: Hollywood Superstar and All-Round Good Guy

Keanu Reeves might just be one of the best, nicest guys in Hollywood. Obviously, his acting career is incredibly impressive, with credits like Point Break and The Matrix to his name. All that success could easily go to his head, but he prefers to live a quiet life that few know about.

Today, let’s take a look at Keanu Reeves, the man.

Off-screen, Reeves has been known to take part in funding children’s charities on the down low.

Why? Because he’s a humble “do-gooder” for no other reason than to give back. Pretty cool, right?

“I have a private foundation that’s been running for five or six years, and it helps aid a couple of children’s hospitals and cancer research,” Keanu said in 2009 (according to Snopes) in a Ladies Home Journal article.

“I don’t like to attach my name to it, I just let the foundation do what it does.”

Apparently, this was inspired by his sister, who battled Leukemia back in the 1990s. Luckily, her disease was declared in remission by doctors, spring-boarding Reeves into his charitable groove. Not only does he fund cancer and children’s charities, but he’s also been known to participate in phone drives.

“Public efforts found him manning the phones at a Stand Up to Cancer telethon in 2008,” the List mentions in an article. “Stars like Reeves generously gave their time and used their star power to encourage fans to become callers, donors and participants in the efforts to heal cancer.”

But his heart-felt generosity doesn’t stop there. He enjoys taking care of others. Like buying his mother a new house and giving millions of dollars to the crew of The Matrix! He insisted the special FX and costume design teams were the real heroes of the movies, gifting them each $1 million.

In the end, money does not equal happiness to him.

“For me, I guess I don’t connect the enjoyment and the money,” Reeves told the New York Post. “I work on a part and hopefully realize a part, and make good films. Some of the successes I’ve had I’m grateful for, because it creates other opportunities. [The way] I look at it is I get to act again.”

Going one step further, Tim Allen wraps up Reeves’ personality in a recent interview.

Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear) talked about the Toy Story 4  on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and said: “New guys are in it. Keanu Reeves has got a great part in it. Inside story, even the fun, gentle guy that he is, even he said [about his own character], ‘This sounds too much like Buzz Lightyear.’”

He didn’t want to step on Allen’s toes!

And I guess that proves my point: Keanu Reeves is the best guy in Hollywood.

This Dad Had the Best Response When School Required a Permission Slip For His Son to Read “Fahrenheit 451”

Our kids bring permission slips home for all sorts of things, and sometimes we really don’t even bother to read them before penning our name and moving on – but thank goodness Daily Show writer Daniel Radosh makes a habit of reading what he’s signing, especially when it comes from his son, Milo.

The teen needed signed permission to read Fahrenheit 451 as part of his book club. One of the most divisive and important books of the 20th century, the novel takes a hard look at government censorship in the wake of the Nazis, Stalin, and McCarthyism…and the irony was just too much for Radosh to pass up.

So, he sent this response back with the slip:

“I love this letter! What a wonderful way to introduce students to the theme of Fahrenheit 451 that books are so dangerous that the institutions of society—schools and parents—might be willing to team up against children to prevent them from reading one. It’s easy enough to read the book and say, ‘This is crazy. It could never really happen,’ but pretending to present students at the start with what seems like a totally reasonable ‘first step’ is a really immersive way to teach them how insidious censorship can be. I’m sure that when the book club is over and the students realize the true intent of this letter they’ll be shocked at how many of them accepted it as an actual permission slip. In addition, Milo’s concern that allowing me to add this note will make him stand out as a troublemaker really brings home why most of the characters find it easier to accept the world they live in rather than challenge it. I assured him that his teacher would have his back.”

This is completely hilarious, but also insightful and spot-on. I can only assume that one day Milo will look back and laugh about how smart his dad was (is) and at himself for being such a typically embarrassed teen.

5 Far-Out Facts About Legendary “Rocketman” Elton John

Music icon Elton John’s biopic, Rocketman, is in theaters and  72-year-old singer/songwriter/showman extraordinaire is also in the middle of a three-year-long farewell tour. Safe to say, he’s got a lot going on!

In celebration of his final bow from the stage and the new film based on his life, here are 5 facts about the man, the myth, the legend: Elton John.

1. He’s had the same songwriting partner for over 50 years


John and his songwriting partner Bernie Taupin have been a team since 1967. Together, the duo is responsible for over 50 Top 40 hits and over 225 million records sold.

2. He released four albums in one year

Between October 1970 and November 1971 John was extremely prolific, releasing four albums – an unheard of number in today’s musical era. He released Tumbleweed Connection, Friends, the live album 17-11-70, and Madman Across the Water during this period, the latter of which featured his enduring hit, Tiny Dancer.

3. That’s not his real name

John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947, in England. He grew up being called “Reg” or “Reggie” but he legally changed his name in 1972 and didn’t want any association with his birth name after that. John said, “Reg is the unhappy part of my life. If my mother can call me Elton, then everybody else can.”

4. He shared the stage with John Lennon in Lennon’s last ever performance

On November 28, 1974, Elton John convinced John Lennon to join him onstage during a concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden for three songs, including Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and I Saw Her Standing There. It was Lennon’s last public performance.

5. He was a bonafide hit-making machine

During the 1970s, Elton John was on a serious roll. He recorded 15 hit singles between 1973-1976, including fan favorites Don’t Go Breaking My Heart, Rocket Man, Crocodile Rock, and Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting.

This Woman’s Looks Just Like Steve Buscemi, and the Internet Can’t Get Enough

Whenever you see an animal that looks like a person, it’s definitely a little jarring. It can also be among the superficial reasons that people turn down a perfectly lovable pet. My dog, for instance, has the cutest little underbite, which I was told was a reason that a few other prospective families turned her down. I’d say it worked out though, because I now have the world’s sweetest little puppy and those other people lost out!

Perhaps her looks are the reason this cat spent 2 whole years in a shelter (she was there from the time she was 2 days old!) before someone finally loved her for who she was on the inside…and the outside.

When Jen Chavez went looking for another member to add to their family – they already had 3 rescue cats and 3 little boys – she had no idea what she would find.

But when she saw Marla, Jen was immediately intrigued with the funny-looking, but sweet, feline.

A Dark Family Secret Could Explain Karen Carpenter’s Eating Disorder

Back in the 1970s, Karen Carpenter and her husband, Richard, were a musical force to be reckoned with, selling over 100 million records before Karen’s longstanding battle with anorexia forced her to retire from the stage and eventually ending in her untimely death at the age of 32.

While a CBS documentary called The Karen Carpenter Story (you can rent it on Amazon) makes no mention of the potential reasons for Karen’s struggle with her body image, author Randy Schmidt blames her struggle on her mother, Agnes.

During the making of the documentary Agnes said there was no reason to cast an ugly light on the family, refusing to put any discussion of potential familial negativity – but Schmidt believes the real reason she was uninterested in delving into the past was that Karen’s anorexia stemmed directly from her mother’s “inability to love.” He claims that Agnes withheld affection from her daughter starting at a young age and continuing through high school.

Schmidt’s book, Little Girl Blue: The Life of Karen Carpenter, details Karen’s eating disorder, which began shortly after the “chubby teenager” graduated from high school. Her health took a nosedive after she began performing since she didn’t like the way she looked onstage, and she regularly chose to hide in fluffy blouses or jumpers when she wasn’t in front of an audience.

She was so thin that fans thought she might have cancer, and since anorexia was (and often remains) a taboo topic, no one talked about what was really wrong with her.

Karen herself denied that anything was wrong or that she was ill, and, despite attempts by friends to convince her to see a therapist, her parents’ attitude that psychiatrists were for “crazy people” dissuaded her.

Despite eventual treatment, she continued to harm herself with laxatives and unprescribed thyroid medication, a trend that doctors were unable to reverse when she was finally admitted to a hospital.

She died at just 32 years old, most of her dreams and career aspirations unrealized.

Shirley Temple was immensely talented and won audiences over with her charm, singing, and adorable curls. Although she stopped performing at age 22, she continued to make waves, becoming an accomplished diplomat. Here are seven essential facts you should know about the legendary Shirley Temple:

1. She was considered for “The Wizard of Oz”

Of course, that starring role went to Judy Garland. There are numerous rumors about why she didn’t get the part. It may have been her singing limitations or studio politics.

2. She brought breast cancer to national attention

In 1972, breast cancer wasn’t discussed at a national level. Women’s options for treatment were often dictated by their doctors, without their input. They would go in for a biopsy, and if preliminary results were positive for cancer, doctors would perform a radical mastectomy without consulting the patient, which involves removing the breast and underlying muscles of the chest wall. This one-step process was “easier” for doctors, but left women devastated.

When Temple found a lump in her breast, she opted for a biopsy (and only a biopsy), which she had to fight for. When she learned it was positive for cancer, she fought for a simple mastectomy, which only removes breast tissue and is the standard for treatment today.

Temple then shared her experience, holding a news conference from her hospital bed to educate other women and writing about her experience for McCall’s. Her approach was so radical that she was scolded by the American Cancer Society, but she paved the way for better cancer treatment for people with breast cancer and de-stigmatized cancer in general.

3. She is the youngest person to ever receive an Academy Award

She received a special juvenile Academy Award at age six. According to reports, she thanked the presenter for the award and turned and asked her mother, “Mommy, can I go home now?”

4. She was incredibly popular

With today’s multiplexes and numerous streaming options, it’s hard to imagine someone dominating the silver screen the way Temple did. According to The New York Times, she starred in 23 movies during the Depression years, making her the most popular movie star in America. Clark Gable was a distant second.

5. She didn’t like the drink named after her

According to the LA Times, she found the drink too sweet for her tastes. She also resisted attempts by soda manufacturers to market sodas based on the famous drink, as she didn’t like the idea of a cocktail (even a non-alcoholic one) for kids. If you’re not familiar with it, a “Shirley Temple” is a mix of ginger ale or lemon-lime soda with grenadine or cherry flavoring.

6. She was a conservative Republican and an accomplished diplomat

Temple ran for Congress in 1967 on a conservative, pro-Vietnam War platform, losing to a more moderate candidate. She was appointed to the U.S. delegation to the United Nations General Assembly and was later appointed as ambassador to Ghana, which outraged some career diplomats. According to The New York Times, she succeeded in that post, and in others that followed, surpassing everyone’s expectations.

7. Her mom shaved a year off her age

Then, as now, youth ruled Hollywood. After Temple only made $700 for two years of work, her mom shaved a year off her 5 1/2-year-old’s age. At her 12th birthday party, she was shocked to find out she was actually 13.

She was very bright, intelligent, and naturally charismatic. She often got the lead in all of the school plays.

I remember one year, in our 3rd grade play, the main role was something she really wanted, and I ended up getting it! Even though she was disappointed, she still told me congratulations and that she thought I would do a good job.

We used to play gymnastics at her house all the time and pretend we were Kerri Strug, her parents got us both USA leotards! She was a sweet girl, we kind of split up later in elementary school and don’t talk anymore but she was a great friend!

Also wanted to add that I called her by her real name, Emily, haha.

2. Tupac

Studied performing arts in Baltimore and shared a stage several times with Tupac.

he was kind, sweet, and brilliant. His public persona was just his brand. The rest of us knew then he was going to do something great. Other people would do 2 or 3 person workshops on stage and the rest of the group would study lines or workshop on the floor in the corner, but when he was up, everyone would watch.

His only dream was to be kind, and his drive to success was for no other reason than to be able to be kind to as many people as he could.

3. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

My mom used the go to the same gym as Dwayne Johnson(she had just started going again at this point and she hadn’t been to a gym in 10+ years due to an incident where someone had a heart attack in her spin class). This was before he was famous and everything she just saw he knew what he was doing. She walked up to him and said “I’m sorry if I’m bothering you I just don’t really know where to start with all this.”

He immediately stopped in the middle of his workout and helped design an entire workout plan for her including showing her what machines/how to use them. Over the next several months every time he was there and he saw my mom he would ask her how her workout was going. Just genuinely a nice guy. Sadly she moved and couldn’t go back to the same gym but she has kept using the workout he designed for her and she kept a six pack well into her 50’s.

I know it’s not really being childhood friends with them but it was still when he was super young and he had a profound impact on my moms life so I thought I would share.

4. Frank Sinatra

My grandmother was Frank Sinatra’s high school sweetheart.

He asked her to marry him and she told him that he had no future and to get a job.

He left town and became Frank Sinatra.

We have all their letters.

5. Sophie Turner

I went to school with Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark). She was a couple of years below me, but I was in a few plays with her.

She was just an average girl tbh, in every way. Really normal, didn’t really stand out, but wasn’t quiet or shy either.

She never got the big parts in plays and wasn’t even considered to be one of the ‘good’ actors at our school, was always just a part of the chorus.

Was quite surprised to hear she got a major part in a TV drama, seemed to come out of nowhere.

6. Michael Cera

Micheal Cera wasn’t popular in high school and got punched during a school brawl a few years before arrested development.

I was best friends with Post Malone in high school, and he’s pretty much the same person he was then in high school.

Just some more wild adventures, but his personality has been that same, and it’s nice to see, with the fame and money he stayed who he is.

Fun fact; he use to be an indie music guy in high school, wore Hawaiian V necks, high water tight black jeans, and toms.

Coolest, chilliest, and funniest dude you could of hung out with.

8. Emily Ratajkowski

Emily Ratajkowski went to my high school. She was a couple years younger but we were in a writing class together.

She’s always been confident, sure of herself. I never knew anyone to dislike her, but with the age gap, we were in different circles so I didn’t spend a lot of time with her.

Her dad was the painting teacher. She was always skinny, artsy, wore interesting clothes, hung out with the thespian folks.

She’s the only daughter of older parents who are very freeform.

9. John Legend

I went to high school with John Legend. He was a child prodigy. He graduated 2 years early and was class president.

I just remember him being immensely gifted and mature. In the morning, he would walk around with a mug of coffee and talk to the teachers.

If he wasn’t so young, you would’ve assumed he was a teacher or administrator.

Nice guy though.

And somehow, that makes me like Michael Cera that much more. ?
