This is Why Eva Mendes And Ryan Gosling Don’t Post Pictures Of Their Kids On Social Media

How much to share of your kids on social media is one of those big discussions that parents have these days that didn’t exist ten years ago.

Now, though, there are all kinds of ethical questions about things like privacy and identity theft and the like, but still, few parents are going with the same zero-tolerance policy as Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes.

The couple has been together for nine years, but there are very few images of the two together – and even fewer instances of them talking about each other, their relationship, or their two daughters (5-year-old Esmerelda and 3-year-old Amada) in interviews or online.

They never post photos of their personal lives online, and when asked about why she never posts pictures of her “immediate family” on Instagram, Eva took a few minutes to graciously offer a reply.

“I have always had a clear boundary when it comes to my man and my kids. I’ll talk about them of course, with limits, but I won’t post pictures of our daily life.”

The reason? Simple consent, which has become such a big talking point in recent months.

“Since my children are still so little and don’t understand what posting their image really means, I don’t have their consent. And I won’t post their image until they’re old enough to give me consent.”

The actress could have gotten backlash if people had thought her stance was in some way judging their own decision to post whatever they wanted about their own children, but most have been supportive.

“As far as Ryan and I, it just works for us this way. To stay private.”

A hard thing to do these days for anyone, nevermind two people who are very recognizable and loved by so many.

Her statement should ring true for all of us, though – we need to make the decisions we feel like our best for our family, best for our children and their futures, and feel comfortable with any explanation we’re going to have to offer them when they’re older.

Easier said than done, but there’s no wrong answer.

This is a brave new world, and we’re all choosing our paths.

Mark Hamill Had Some Words for a Youngster Who Was Told That ‘Star Wars’ Isn’t for Girls

Stories – however they’re told – are for whoever connects with them on the other end. Men, women, children, non-binary people, literally anyone…if you like a book or a movie or a television show, then if someone suggests its not “for you,” they’re dead wrong.

My blood is actually boiling at the knowledge that a kid had the stones to tell a little girl that she couldn’t be part of a fandom that doesn’t belong to him.

Luckily, I’m not alone, and the great Luke Skywalker himself is on my side.

First, the post…

Kristal Foster’s 5-year-old daughter loves Star Wars, was wearing her favorite movie-themed shoes to school when a boy in her class informed her that she shouldn’t wear them because the franchise “isn’t for girls.”

She tagged Mark Hamill in the post on the topic, and he responded epically.

First, quoting Princess Leia…

And then he reminded everyone that the films would have ended midway through the first one had Leia not been around to rescue both Han and Luke from certain death.

Other people jumped in on the #StarWarsIsForEveryone – rightfully so.

Oh, I’m sorry… is the galaxy only filled with BOYS?

And Leia! Remember Leia!

Star Wars ladies unite!

And who was the main character in the last three films? Ahem…

The next time you hear someone try to tell someone else that some piece of art or media “isn’t for them,” you have my permission to summon Princess Leia (or Carrie Fisher) and give them a serious piece of your mind.

And maybe a middle finger. Carrie wouldn’t have it any other way.

This is Why More and More Men Are Painting Their Nails

If you see a male with painted toes and fingernails and assume that he’s either a) got a young daughter or b) is somehow living outside the mainstream of masculinity, well, be prepared to change your assumptions, my friends.

The menicure is here, and it looks like it’s gonna stay.

Fashion trends come and go, but I, for one, always cheer for the ones that bring up discussions about freedom and longstanding but useless social constructs, don’t you?

Men painting their nails isn’t exactly new – musicians like Kurt Cobain and David Bowie led the charge in the days of grunge and emo, and actors and other celebrities like Marc Jacob and Jonathan Van Ness are on trend today, along with (according to Mei Kawahiri) Harry Styles, Asap Rocky, and Pete Davidson.

Though it used to be that black nails was the main thing on men, guys today are really venturing out – choosing different colors and, honestly, living their best lives.

Whether they take a leap with color or stick to neutrals that are easy to match, men getting manicures and pedicures is becoming a mainstream thing.

Anything that challenges us, promotes inclusion, celebrates diversity, or encourages people to express their most authentic self is on the menu – and on trend – in today’s society. And as a women who has had the socially acceptable option to paint her nails every day of her adult life, I can vouch for the fact that a little pop of color can make you feel happier, more confident, and just give you a reason to smile.

There’s no reason to deny those things to men who want to paint their nails, so the next time you see a guy sporting his happy menicure, make sure to pay him what I’m sure will be a well-deserved compliment.

Kobe Bryant Made Hundreds of Kids Happy Through the Make-A-Wish Program

It’s still hard to believe that Kobe Bryant is really gone.

And as time goes on, we uncover more of what he did to make a difference and encourage others to do their best.

If you didn’t know, in addition to winning five NBA championships and an Oscar, he also granted more than 200 wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Bryant said it was important for him to give back:

“Basketball is something that will come and eventually go, the beauty in that is trying to use that time to inspire others and provide some sort of escape for them. I think that’s something that lives well beyond the game of basketball and is probably most important.”

Kobe clearly had a positive impact on the families he met through Make-A-Wish. One dad, Patrick Moore, shared his account of Bryant’s visit with his son Henry. He recalled how Kobe went above and beyond to make Henry happy.

“Kobe asked why we didn’t bring anything to sign and he sent an assistant to the Laker’s store in the Staples Center. The assistant brought back a TON of stuff and Kobe signed it all. He held Henry through much of our visit. The memorabilia is still all over Henry’s bedroom. “

Vanessa Bryant took to Instagram to thank fans who are feeling the heartbreak of losing Kobe.

My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time. Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe — the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna — a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri. We are also devastated for the families who lost their loved ones on Sunday, and we share in their grief intimately. There aren’t enough words to describe our pain right now. I take comfort in knowing that Kobe and Gigi both knew that they were so deeply loved. We were so incredibly blessed to have them in our lives. I wish they were here with us forever. They were our beautiful blessings taken from us too soon. I’m not sure what our lives hold beyond today, and it’s impossible to imagine life without them. But we wake up each day, trying to keep pushing because Kobe, and our baby girl, Gigi, are shining on us to light the way. Our love for them is endless — and that’s to say, immeasurable. I just wish I could hug them, kiss them and bless them. Have them here with us, forever. Thank you for sharing your joy, your grief and your support with us. We ask that you grant us the respect and privacy we will need to navigate this new reality. To honor our Team Mamba family, the Mamba Sports Foundation has set up the MambaOnThree Fund to help support the other families affected by this tragedy. To donate, please go to MambaOnThree.org. To further Kobe and Gianna’s legacy in youth sports, please visit MambaSportsFoundation.org. Thank you so much for lifting us up in your prayers, and for loving Kobe, Gigi, Natalia, Bianka, Capri and me. #Mamba #Mambacita #GirlsDad #DaddysGirls #Family ❤

She went on to ask those fans who want to make an impact to donate to the Mamba Sports Foundation and to another fund supporting the other families who perished in the accident.

Kobe’s life well-lived – even if it ended too soon – and he did what he could to make his fans happy.

There’s an Instagram page out there for everything these days, and this is one of the weirder ones that I’ve come across.

The folks behind this page Photoshop the one and only Meryl Streep into various food photos, and it is truly odd.
