An Abundance of “Cat Ladders” Makes Switzerland a Cat-Lover’s Dream

Everyone knows that cats pretty much live to climb all over everything. Whether it’s shelves, furniture, tabletops, or your head, kitties gonna climb. They also crave the freedom to explore their neighborhood on their own terms, coming and going as they please (if they’re an outdoor cat, at least).

Naturally, then, it would make sense that cat-loving apartment owners might want to create some way for their cats to still be able to go in and out without needing to learn how to operate a door code. It just makes sense, right?

Clearly it did to the people of Switzerland – particularly the residents of the city of Bern, where “cat ladders” seem to adorn just about every building.

The cat ladders come in all shapes and sizes, and they are all pretty impressive. Get a load of these ingenious ladder designs for the Swiss kitties.

“Grumpy Cat” May Be Gone, But The Internet Has Found a Worthy Successor

A few weeks ago, the internet was saddened to learn that “Grumpy Cat” (real name Tardar Sauce) passed away. I think we can all agree that she’ll be greatly missed.

Some days are grumpier than others…

Let’s give him a shot, okay?!?! Here are 15 pics of Louis in all his glory.

A worthy successor, I believe. I think you will, too.

This Woman’s Looks Just Like Steve Buscemi, and the Internet Can’t Get Enough

Whenever you see an animal that looks like a person, it’s definitely a little jarring. It can also be among the superficial reasons that people turn down a perfectly lovable pet. My dog, for instance, has the cutest little underbite, which I was told was a reason that a few other prospective families turned her down. I’d say it worked out though, because I now have the world’s sweetest little puppy and those other people lost out!

Perhaps her looks are the reason this cat spent 2 whole years in a shelter (she was there from the time she was 2 days old!) before someone finally loved her for who she was on the inside…and the outside.

Because y’all, she looks exactly like Steve Buscemi.

When Jen Chavez went looking for another member to add to their family – they already had 3 rescue cats and 3 little boys – she had no idea what she would find.

But when she saw Marla, Jen was immediately intrigued with the funny-looking, but sweet, feline.

When she inquired, Jen found the shelter staff very protective of the little girl. She’d been dumped there at 2 days old and had waited 2 long years for someone to take her home.

That someone was Jen, who knew that her “little strange face” would fit right in with their family.

The shelter employees did let Jen know there was a meme floating around the internet that compared her to Steve Buscemi, and that was when it clicked – that was exactly who Marla looked like!

Jen describes her as sweet, playful, a good eater, and a fan of her husband’s singing.

As long as she doesn’t start taking on traits from Buscemi’s character from Boardwalk Empire, they should be fine.

Vet Explains the Proper Way to Hold a Cat

It’s happened to the best of us. You see a cuddly cat that you’ve just got to pick up. It could be a friend’s, it could be yours, it doesn’t matter. You’ve got one hand underneath its furry belly when all of the sudden you’re getting clawed six ways from Sunday. It’s a painful warning, and you leave a little more scared of cats than when you started.

Luckily, Dr. Burstyn, otherwise known as the “Helpful Vancouver Vet” is here to teach us how to properly pick up a cat. His method is safe, simple, and comfortable for both the cat and yourself.

One thing you gotta know right off the bat: cats don’t mind being squished. If anything, it makes them feel more comfortable and secure. Plus, it minimizes the risk of them squirming and accidentally scratching you with one of their claws.

Second, Dr. Burstyn wants us to all cut it out with this “two hands behind the front legs and letting them dangle” nonsense. It’s not comfortable for the cat and can be downright dangerous. Like babies, cats need proper support when they’re being held. So, when lifting them up by the torso, make sure to use your hands and forearm to support their belly, and squish them up against your side for extra security.

If you’re in a pinch and need to pick up and transport a cat quickly, Dr. Burstyn advocates for the “football carry.” All this entails is one hand on the stomach, one hand on the butt, and tucked into your side like a football. Obviously, don’t carry your cat like this on a regular basis, but in the fast-paced world of veterinarians, the football carry is an indispensable tool.

Then there are those cats who are more comfortable riding on your shoulder than in your arms. Allowing a cat to climb up on your shoulder can be nerve-wracking, especially if you’ve never done it before. After all, Dr. Burstyn points out, cats tend to use their claws to climb. All you’ve got to do is lower yourself to their level, which lets them hop onto your shoulder with little effort and no claws. Need them to hop off? Simply lower yourself back down and they will eventually correct themselves and crawl back onto the table or floor.

If you’d like to check out Dr. Burstyn’s full video (and two beautiful cats) you can watch it below.

Artist Makes Floral Crowns for Dogs and Cats, and We Need One ASAP

San Diego artist and college professor Yarely first wove a flower crown and popped it on her Australian shepherd as a simple prop for an Instagram pic. Little did she know, that simple crown would go on to become a successful brand.

Freya’s Floral Company creates beautiful flower crowns for dogs, cats (and also humans).

But how do you get a dog to wear a crown made of flowers? Yarely says it may be easier at first to fix the crown on your pup’s head with the attached ribbons tied under the chin like a bonnet. Or, even tied loosely around the neck like a fancy collar. For photos, she has trained Freya to lie down first and then she balances the crown on top. Also, treats!

Tuesday cuteness! ??? . . . . . The shop is on vacation! During this time I will be working on a lot of different projects. I have lofty goals so idk of I’ll even get to it all. : : Here is my to do list : ✨ Make matching sets. (Two matching large crowns / two medium crowns etc.) ✨ Work on wreath crowns. (Full circle crowns. These would be more costly since they require double the material.) ✨ Make three fixed designs and make multiples of those designs . ✨ Make more crowns!! ✨ Work on floral hair combs (& matching sets with combs and crowns) ✨ Work on collaboration crowns . ✨ Develop a custom order system. ✨ Organize and update my workspace. : : : So far, I have started updating my workspace. On my stories I will be posting polls and will be asking for your feedback! Your thoughts matter. Any thoughts on this to do list? What are you looking forward to the most? Where should I even start?! ?#tooambitious

She draws inspiration from how the flowers look on Freya. “It’s all about experimenting.” For custom orders, she spends as much time with each buyer as it takes to get the right colors and balance of fullness.

She also studies real floral arrangements to find her next ideas. The different types of flowers and colors spark her creativity.

Even Instagram celebrity and influencer Leonidas of leo.mainecoon (he’s a cat) likes to model Yarely’s crowns for his 155,000-plus followers. His fans are crazy about this look.

Handsome Leo knows he is special and beautiful in his majestic coronet. Some people are born royal, but in Yarely’s crowns, these pretty pets show us they are the true kings of Instagram.

Hemingway Cats

Ernest Hemmingway was gifted a 6-toed cat named Snow White. Snow White’s 40-50 descendants still live at his Florida home. Over half of them also have 6 toes. Which is why polydactyls are often known as Hemingway Cats.

Deceptively Cute Kitty Waits Outside Cafe to Trick People into Letting Him Inside

Animals do the funniest things sometimes. Anyone who has pets or even spent an extended amount of time with someone else’s pets will attest to the fact that they have distinct personalities. Some of them are total sweethearts, while others are naughty little scamps.

Twitter user David Fucillo recently spotted a cat that falls into the latter category. He came upon the creature standing outside a cafe during a trip to New Orleans. The cat looked despondent and lost, like he probably needed to be let into that cafe. See?

“A woman was working inside so we knocked and pointed to the cat, asking if she belonged inside there,” David wrote on Twitter.

“The woman pointed to the sign which was to the left of the door.”

WOW. The cat is a Liar with a capital L.

Like a really common thing. Those greedy cats.

Anywho, the cafe liar’s name is apparently Squeak. She is “absolutely adored,” the owners of the cafe wrote on Twitter.

“Her owners have multiple cats, but Squeak is not a big fan of other cats. She likes people. In particular, she likes people who pet her.”

Clearly.

Still, they are pretty adorable and cuddly, and they do some pretty funny things.
