This Person Wonders if They’re a Jerk for Asking Their Friend to Pay for Their Dog’s Surgery

If you happen to have pets, then you already know that vet bills can be astronomical.

And this situation involving a dog from a person on Reddit seems like it might just end a friendship.

Let’s see what went down…

WIBTA for asking my friend to pay for my dogs surgery after she almost k**led him?

“One of my good friends came to my apartment to go out together one night, let’s call her Lauren. I also have a 20 week old puppy.

Lauren is notoriously messy when visiting. She will go through her clothes, my clothes and just about everything to find an outfit to go out. However, now that I have my puppy I reminded Lauren when she first came in the apartment to please keep everything off of the ground and out of reach of my puppy.

I told her that he will chew/eat anything left on the ground, so for anything she cared about & for my puppies safety, to keep it up high.

Lauren continued to have her clothes and miscellaneous items from her bag sprawled out everywhere. So instead of reminding her after the 2nd or 3rd time, I just started putting her items in another room and closing the door for her to pick up later.

While getting ready Lauren decided to take a shower and she brought her own shaving razor. When she mentioned shaving, I told her to be careful because my puppy had tried to get ahold of my razor before, so be careful.

Long story short, I crate my dog and we go out. I come back and he is having bloody diarrhea and squealing. At 4 AM, I rush to the emergency vet. They tell me he’s probably constipated and to monitor him. I questioned this but didn’t know what he could’ve ate yet, so I take him home and watch him closely.

After coming home and making sure he is okay. I do a quick sweep of my house and try (emphasis on try, there were crop tops, socks, etc. flung all around my room) to find all the items she had left around my apartment. Lauren picks up her stuff and leaves.

The next day when I am taking a shower I notice she left her razor on the ground by my shower. It looked a bit off so I sent her a picture and asked if a part was missing. She says the bikini shaver of it is missing and seems unconcerned. I tell Lauren I think my puppy may have ate it.

So I go to my local vet to have another checkup and they take X-rays. The vet tells me he indeed ate the razor and that he needs to go to another vet over an hour away for emergency surgery, or he would not make it through the night. Of course, I rush there and they do the surgery.

Later I text Lauren that he is having surgery because he swallowed her bikini razor. Lauren tells me she is sorry for leaving it out and didn’t ever mean for this to happen.

We are good friends, I would like to still be. My question is would I be the a**hole it I asked her to cover part of the costs from his surgery?

My puppy is obviously a bit at fault here for eating it, I’m at fault for not searching my apartment well enough after she made a mess, but I believe she is at fault for leaving a razor out where he could get to it after being reminded SEVERAL times.

I’m not intending on asking her to cover full cost, but would I be the a**hole for asking for anything?”

And here’s how people on Reddit reacted.

This person doesn’t think the writer of the post is in the wrong at all for asking her friend to help pay the bills for the dog.

Another reader couldn’t believe that the friend didn’t offer to pay the whole amount!

I think I agree!

Was a Woman Wrong for Letting Her Dog Push Over a Young Child? People Shared Their Thoughts.

You never really know what’s gonna happen when dogs are around children.

That’s why both parties need to be responsible to make sure no one gets hurt. The most loving dog in the world might snap for some reason and bite a kid.

Or a child might do something to harm the animal. You just never know…

And a young woman took to Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?” page to ask readers if they thought she was in the wrong regarding an incident with her dog and a child.

Let’s take a look.

AITA for letting my dog push over a toddler?

“I (20f) have an 8 month old puppy.

He’s generally very well behaved, we’ve been going to a trainer with him since he was 4 months but he’s still an excitable puppy. I have him around young kids pretty often but I have them greet him properly first so they can play safely.

I take him for two walks a day which double as training sessions since he gets really hyped up outside and pulls/jumps which we’d like to stop even though he’s not particularly big and that means we’re frequently stopping and starting.

Today he started pulling near a local daycare, I stopped and he corrected himself so I gave him a treat and we went to head on when two young girls (2f, 4f) rushed over.

I knew them, they’re my neighbours and I generally get along with them so I paused to say hi, letting them know that my dog was okay to pat if they’d let me settle him down first since he gets a little excited and I didn’t want him jumping on them in case they got hurt. The girls seemed to understand but their dad came over and told them to “hurry up and pet the dog so we can go home”.

I tried to explain to him that I needed them to wait a second since he loves kids and if they wanted to pet him I just need to grab his collar and have him sit since he was still in training but he wouldn’t listen and told the girls again to “just pet him”.

So they did and my dog who was getting increasingly more excited about all these people immediately did what I warned and jumped up. The older one didn’t mind to much and let him lick her but the other fell over and immediately started screaming.

She didn’t seem hurt, just startled, but the dad immediately went off at me for having a “feral, untrained mutt” and told me I should never have my dog near kids before stormed off with his kids.

I did try and warn them but I love little kids and I feel awful about her being knocked over, especially since I probably could have grabbed him if I was paying more attention to my dog and less to the dad.

AITA for what happened?”

Here’s how people reacted on Reddit.

This reader said that the other dad in this situation is definitely to blame and that the guy is, quite simply, a d**k.

Another person said this boils down to one thing: entitlement from the dad in this story.

And this individual pointed out that the person who wrote the post tried but the father put his kids in danger by acting like this.

Finally, this Reddit user said that the person who wrote the story was trying to do the right thing and he did everything he could in this situation.

Family takes “If I Fits, I Sits” to a Whole New Level With Their Cat

When I was a kid I really liked the idea of tiny rooms. Sure, I had a normal sized bedroom. But inside my closet, there was a tiny door.

Where did it lead? (I don’t know. I think it was locked and led to the pipes.)

And even though I had a room of my own, I longed to have a tiny secret room that no one could go in but me.

Turns out, maybe cats feel the same way. It’s a proven fact that cats like containers.

There’s a reason why “If I fits, I sits,” has become a slogan for cat lovers everywhere.

Even big cats aren’t immune.

And we all know how they feel about boxes.

But could it be that all this sitting in tight places is because secretly, cats want tiny bedrooms of their own?

One family recently found out.

After adopting a tuxedo kitty called Wyatt from a shelter, Bryan Davies really wanted to make the cat feel at home.

His bedroom had a sort of secret, unused cupboard and so Bryan renovated it for his feline friend, complete with cat-sized furniture and pictures on the wall.

It’s the perfect, cozy little container for a cat.

And because Wyatt was an avid birdwatcher, they completed the setup with a wall-mounted tablet for watching YouTube videos of birds and other wildlife.

What a cushy pad!

As Bryan told The Dodo:

“He spends a lot of time in there, asking to watch his show before taking a nap.

He zones out to the screen like a normal teen. And he naps — hard.

He really does enjoy it as much as a kid who finally got his own room.”

It kind of reminds me of a favorite childhood story, the Little Golden Book Home for a Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown.

Not only does Wyatt have a nice little room, but he loves boxes like any cat, and his room has a good deal of symmetry going on.

That’s interesting because, according to a recent study, it’s not just containers that cats love.

Ever wonder why they also want to lie down on your laptop, keyboard, notepad, or book?

Apparently it’s not just to irritate you.

According to this new study, squares and rectangles, the actual shapes are what often attract cats.

The researchers found that cats will actually sit inside an optical illusion of a square, because they like squares so much.

It’s fascinating! No wonder Wyatt loves his little room with its little bed and TV.

What do you think about all this? Does your pet need their own bedroom too? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.

These Cuddly Pups Remind Us Why Dogs Are Man’s Best Friend

When I was young, I was terrified of dogs.

No one really knows why. Maybe because the whole neighborhood had Labradors who would chase me and knock me down.

They thought we were playing. I thought I was dinner.

Eventually, because my sister wanted one, I agreed that we could get a dog if it was a little one, and we soon welcomed a terrier pup into the family.

Now, as an adult, I love doggos. (I still don’t love Labs though. Sorry most popular breed on the planet.)

Cat Parents Show the Many Personalities of the Feline

My family had two cats when I was growing up, and while I don’t love cleaning the litter box, I love the way they purr. Life isn’t really suitable for a cat at the moment, but lately, I find myself wishing I had one. They’re so soft, standoffish, and adorable.

Our neighbor’s cat comes to visit us sometimes. He used to do his business in a planter in our garden. When we had to get rid of the planter (aka his toilet), he waited on the front porch for us to come home from work, just so he could give us the evil eye. I want to adopt him.

This Person Asked if They’re Wrong For Not Paying Neighbor’s Vet Bills After Dog Attacked Cat

Things always get heated when animals are involved…and you’re about to read quite a story from Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?” page.

It features dogs, cats, and a dispute over some vet bills.

Let’s see what happened.

AITA for not paying the medical bills for my neighbor’s cat?

“Let me start off by giving the details.

My backyard is completely fenced in with a metal 6 ft high fence, and so is my neighbor’s. I have a 3 year old husky, they have a cat. My dog has full 24/7 access to my backyard through the use of a doggy door for 2 years now, and we’ve had no issue before.

Every now and then my neighbor’s cat would be sitting on top of the fence and my dog would bark at it, but the cat would run off. Not really an issue.

So now we’re at the part where I’m being accused of being an a**hole, a terrible person, and my neighbor is rallying up the whole block against me.

THEIR cat came through MY doggy door. My dog was alerted within seconds and reacted way faster than I could ever. The cat did recieve some damage, but I managed to save it from my dog. I then rushed it to the neighbor’s, and I drove them to the vet (they didn’t have a car.)

Their cat was okay, hurt, but okay. I brought them home and as I was saying my goodbyes and giving my condolences, they asked about medical expenses. I have pet insurance for my own dog, so I had reassurance that I would be able to afford my own animal’s medical expenses.

I wasn’t financially prepared to handle someone else’s. And I told my neighbor this, but they told me I’m at fault because it was my dog who attacked their cat. I failed to see how it was my fault, as the animal was trespassing in my own home, and my dog was reacting because it’s territory was being infiltrated.

They said same choice words but I ended up refusing to pay by saying “I’m not paying for your cats medical bills, forget it” and I walked away. Other neighbors are now giving me dirty looks and I just don’t feel welcomed here.

I do plan on replacing my doggy door with an electronic one that will only open for my own dog, so I’m not ignoring the issue. I just don’t think I’m to blame, especially when I did what I could to help.

So, AITA?”

Hmmmm. Let’s see how people responded on Reddit.

This reader said that, while they love cats, the cat in the story entered the house so you can’t blame the dog for attacking.

Another person argued that people who let their cats roam free are nothing but selfish and they do a lot of damage outside.

This individual said that cats tend to terrorize their neighborhoods and that this owner only cared when bad something to their cat…while ignoring everything else it does.

This reader said that outdoor cats are nothing but a nuisance.

And lastly, this person basically said that if you’re gonna play with fire, sometimes you’re gonna get burned.

Dachshunds Went Viral for “Helping” To Save the Suez Canal

I really love a good dog story.

Crusoe the Dachshund is no stranger to the camera.

A spunky little dog who, like many dachshunds, suffers from Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), he and his canine siblings, Oakley and Daphne, are internet-famous across multiple platforms, and where they recently went viral because of one of their adventures.

The three doxxies make lots of videos, which can be found under their Instagram handle @crusoe_dachshund.

The pups often play dress-up in their videos, like this one where they posed as a zebra, a lion, and a monkey for Earth Day this year:

And donned their favorite Star Wars costumes on May the 4th:

These intrepid little dachshunds just like to have a good time, whether it’s filming a makeup tutorial:

Or a mock ad for a jewelry store:

And they are no strangers to the art of the green screen!

So when that massive container ship got stuck in the Suez Canal, blocking more than 400 other vessels for several days, their fans knew just who to call to dig it out.

Originally posted on TikTok, with a slightly longer version available on YouTube, these little diggers did what dachshunds do best.

When he’s not busy posing for the camera, Crusoe also acts as the CEO for the company DoggoRamps, which was founded by his owner Ryan Beauchesne.

According to their website, the company was started when little Crusoe underwent surgery on his back in 2016.

Crusoe loves to spend time with us on the bed and couch, and I still wanted him to be able to do that without always worrying he might jump off.

So, through much trial and error and many iterations, I finally designed the original small dog bed ramp, which I used for Crusoe for a couple years before even bringing it to market.

Nowadays Crusoe is doing just fine. (He did help dig out that container ship after all. Ahem.)

And the ramp that Ryan invented for him has helped over 10,000 other dogs and their families.

How’s that for a good-boy story? Let us know what you think of Crusoe in the comments.
