During the early 1990s, Bart Simpson T-shirts were banned at many schools throughout the United States.
Solved! The Mystery Behind White Dog Poop and Where It Has Gone
The debate inside my house right now is who remembers white dog poo littering parks and neighborhoods throughout America back in the 90s?
My husband remembers it clearly.
I don’t particularly, but my memory is not as good as his.
Also, I have more interesting things to remember, like the confetti explosion in our backyard every time my dog got hold of my crayons, which was more often than I should probably admit.
(I’ve never been a tidy person.)
The question on people’s minds–those who remember the white dog poo of yore–is where is it now?
#CelebsFilmsSongsInCatsAndDogs
Me And You And Some White Dog Poo pic.twitter.com/kRh4HtFZ79— Lie Low Lil (@Lily_McSnarly) July 23, 2020
As seen above, it was chalky and dry, looking a bit like sun-bleached coral.
And you have to admit, you really don’t see it these days, do you?
On the one hand, people are a lot more conscientious about picking up after their pups now than they were back in the 90s.
I’m mortified thinking back to walking my dog and letting him do his business wherever he wanted.
At the same time, we did have sidewalks, so that stretch of grass between the sidewalk and the street was sort of fair game, right?
I dunno if my neighbors minded. We didn’t have a Facebook or NextDoor so they couldn’t complain.
That being said, there’s another explanation for the disappearance of the ghost-like poo.
As Mental Floss and Treehugger explain, the issue was excess calcium.
Dog food used to contain an overabundance of meat and bone meal, both of which are high in the mineral. Whatever the dog couldn’t process ended up in its feces, and as the wet matter dried out in the sun, the hard calcium stuck around. This led to crumbly, mummified turds littering our sidewalks and green spaces.
Today, there is a huge market in organic, gluten-free, fancy-pants dog food.
For good or for ill, the pet market has figured out that we’ll do anything to make our best friends healthier and live longer, fuller lives.
But even regular old plain jane dog foods don’t have so much cheap bone meal, and thus, there is less calcium all the way around.
Here’s a rare white dog poo next to a brown one, photographed in the wild by me last week pic.twitter.com/rzQqEwYMXB

That means that if you DO see the old white dog poo, somebody needs a trip to the vet.
Do you remember seeing white poos in the yard?

People Talk About What They Miss Most from the 1990s
The 90’s. It feels like a lifetime ago.
Maybe even another dimension. Or a weird, puke-green dream.
But a lot of us miss it anyway.
What does Reddit think was the best part of this era? Let’s find out.
1. Sit-in Pizza Huts
I was on vacation in the mountains up state and they had one in town. I got to have pizza in an actual Pizza Hut for the first time since the late 90’s early 2000’s.
We had one outside of town and then that closed and they made a to go one that ended up also closing. Now I can have one of the local places or Papa John’s or Domino’s.
The target nearby does have the mini Pizza Hut pizzas and some of their appetizers. It’s hardly the same as getting it from a Pizza Hut itself.
– twin-shadows
2. Goofing off without it being posted
I had to stop drinking with one of my friends because she’d ALWAYS record everyone doing anything even remotely fun or goofy and it’d be on snapchat or Facebook within seconds.
Like, I just wanna get a little drunk and dance and have a good time with my friends, I don’t want every person I hardly know seeing me let loose.
– nothoughtsnosleep
3. Authentic social interactions
Being social with people felt so different and authentic.
My friends would sometimes just “drop by” to see if I was home to say hi.
We could pick up the phone and have hour long conversations.
It felt like text message cheapened that.
The lesser dependence on technology seemed to cultivate more genuine friendships but that was just my experience.
– runr7
4. TV with specific broadcast times
We would all gather in my tiny college apartment to watch The Office every week. Good memories!!
And I believe Game of Thrones was the last time I did that with any friends as well.
I wonder if we’ll ever do that again.. weird to think that might have been the last time.
– Smilingaudibly
5. Being unreachable
I miss not being able to be reached, or being able to reach people.
Back then you’d call your friend and it would ring somewhere in their house. If there was no one there (which was common) you’d shrug and just carry on your day. If you just wanted to chill out on your own you’d just not answer the phone.
Now, everyone knows people are never without their phones. I’ve had people p**sed at me because I took an hour to reply to a text.
– kor_hookmaster
6. The 90’s aesthetic
It was extreme and alternative, not family-friendly wacky or dystopian like a lot of people think when they see an 80’s aesthetic.
Example: the entire aesthetic of Nickelodeon in the 90’s. Slime and extreme s**t.
– XtremePizzaBuilder
7. Online privacy being the norm
It’s unreal how blithe some people have gotten toward privacy.
My brother’s a high school teacher, and a few years ago he caught a girl in his class livestreaming herself just…sitting there, learning. He asked her to stop, and noticed that there were 15 people apparently watching her on the stream, and suggested that the kinds of people who would watch a 16-year-old girl sitting in class are maybe not the kinds of people she should want watching her.
The girl’s response was a confused “Why not?”
– Dahhhkness
8. Mor affordable housing
There was a time when my kid could have moved out and rented with room mates or even on his own.
But its very hard for young people to start out with the current condition.
– etriff
9. Just general childhood
Free from most adult responsibilities, free from social media, free from bulls**t politics (they were there for sure, but you literally had to look for them, lol), free from a general miasma of fear coming from the media.
When I think back, all I remember is sunshine, the lack of a weight bearing down on my shoulders all the time and the sweet sounds of amazing music.
While I miss it, I am just grateful that I got to experience it.
– Throwaway7219017
10. The optimism
It was a pretty happy decade. The Cold War was over. The economy was booming. Technology seemed to be offering us solutions before we even knew we had a problem.
The products of pop culture almost never dwelled on dystopia or decline.
Air travel was about as dangerous as bus travel.
Acid rain and the hole in the ozone layer were problems of the decade before that seem to have been fixed, and climate change was still called global warming and was not nearly so front and center in how people talked about the future.
All in all, the 90s were a pretty solid decade.
– faceintheblue
11. Mom and pop shops
Family owned convenience stores, diners, burger joints, ice cream parlors, cafes, bookstores, delis, etc.
Even small neighborhood grocery stores.
And independent music venues!
Seems like I’m talking about the 50s but in the 90’s these places still existed. In my hometown most of them are completely gone and were replaced by generic corporate chains or condos. The ones that are still around are struggling to stay afloat and compete.
I’m glad I got to enjoy them while they existed but also realized how much I took them for granted.
– dotskee
12. The optimistic internet
I genuinely feel like the Internet has gone from “the most important and greatest achievement of humanity” to “something that might have been a mistake” during my lifetime
It’s really sad because a global communications network should be a great thing for everyone
– Badloss
13. The airports
I miss how chill and cool airports were.
Watching the plane leave after hugging my parents goodbye or waiting at the window watching it dock knowing someone you were waiting for was about to get off.
– MindSecurity
14. The arcades
Arcades died specifically because home console graphics caught up to them. The PS1 and Saturn got close enough that the differences started feeling minor and then with the Dreamcast and PS2 (and the rise of online gaming) it was all over.
It’s not as though Dave and Busters and Round One are unpopular, but you go for experiences that don’t translate as well to home, which means the few modern arcade games are either steering wheel racers, light gun games, or peripheral-based rhythm games.
– milespudgehalter
15. Full size Frosted Strawberry Pop Tarts
They’re, like, half the thickness these days!
That and eating them while watching back to back episodes of Saved by the Bell on Saturday mornings. Good times…
– panamanimal
Yeah. I agree. With just…all of that.

Memes to Blast You Directly into the Past
I’ve always loved the term “yesteryear.” Though I’ve often wondered if it’s supposed to mean literally last year, a recent year, or just some vaguely romantic notion of the past.
Of course, words only mean things based on how we use them, so it shouldn’t have come as a surprise to me when I looked it up and found the definition literally included all three connotations.
With that in mind, I hope you’ll enjoy being blasted right back into yesteryear, via these nostalgic memes.
13. The sacred arts
“But I was saying ‘honk shoe’ and everything!”
12. The rat
Why you gotta tell on me like that?
11. The situation room
You gotta get in there and make ’em understand.
10. Decisions, decisions
There are ancient rites of divination that must be passed down.
9. Latchkey kids
How did more of us not die?
Or did it just not make the news?
8. Now that’s sharp
The ultimate quest in uselessness.
7. The sick day
Price is right can stay, the rest is garbage.
6. Choose your fighter
Are you a decent soul like Yoshi or some Wario sociopath?
5. Caught on tape
Keeping tapes properly labeled was a feat no one on earth could achieve.
4. And that man was…
Mr. Feeeeeeeeeeny!
3. True fear
“Oh cool, so this is how it ends.”
2. The hate you give
She had a part to play and she played it well.
1. So catchy

Man. Yesteryear really was something.

Childhood Memories That Will Bring Back 1990s Nostalgia
There’s nothing like a little walk down memory lane to make you feel all the feels from your childhood.
The 80s and 90s may have been a time of bad hair and bright clothes, and all the plastic you could possibly consume, but man, there was some great stuff too.
These 19 blasts from the past will leave anyone over 30 feeling nostalgic:
1. Ballerina jewellery box
I had one. You had one. We all had one. The nice thing is they still make them today, but a little more inclusive versions.
I had a ballerina jewellery box exactly like this when I was a child…
{What a sweet idea to turn it into a sugar bowl} #madhattersteaparty pic.twitter.com/BsDCWF0lyy— Dipti the Hypnotherapist (@Dipnotherapy) December 17, 2018
2. Bath beads
As someone who LOVES baths, I had all but forgotten about these! And I don’t remember any kids ever being tempted to try eating them…
3. The fishing game
Possibly as boring and tedious, but more anxiety laden, than actual fishing.
4. MapQuest
Apparently it’s still a thing. I have vivid memories of getting lost in a very fancy neighborhood because of bad MapQuest directions.

5. Trix fruit shapes
I didn’t know they stopped being shaped like real fruit. Was it to stop giving the illusion that there was anything healthy about this sugar-cereal?

Who didn’t love him to bits?
anyone else remember that cute little bear named corduroy pic.twitter.com/dQZS8frAL3

7. Skip-It
A catchy tune. Kids having fun. I wanted in! Does anyone suddenly feel tricked into exercising?
8. Crossfire game
I didn’t have one, but I’m willing to bet my husband did.

9. Duracell Power-Check batteries
That made you go “oh wow, I remember those” didn’t it?
10. The Brave Little Toaster
Haunting your nightmares and making you anthropomorphize your belongings for decades.
who remembers The Brave Little Toaster? honestly the AC guy scared me from nostalgia
11. Pull Toys
Also known as “the creepy weird telephone pull toy” that everyone had.
12. Book It!
For a kid who loved to read, an award for reading was the best thing ever. And don’t forget that personal pan pizza you would earn!
13. Scratch ‘n Sniff stickers
Normalizing huffing since sometime in the 60s.
14. Garfield
The comic book. The cartoon show! Would kids today even get my references about scarfing lasagna?
Another goodwill “haul” … definitely a favorite from my childhood! from nostalgia
15. You Can’t Do That On Television
And yet they did. (I was forbidden to watch them do it.)
16. Don’t Wake Daddy
Because apparently all of our board games were anxiety provoking and full of trauma.

17. Wishbone!
If I’m being honest, I learned a lot of the classics from Wishbone. He was my first introduction to Mr. Darcy. He was the reason I read the Count of Monte Cristo.

18. Orange Nickelodeon tapes
And OMG Harriet the Spy! Am I the only one who grew up to watch Harriet’s buddy Sport in Rookie Blue? I can’t be the only one.
19. The Y2K Panic
Remember how people thought everything was just going to shut down. Where is this same fear about cyber hacking today??

Teenagers Are Starting to Wish They’d Grown Up “Way Back” in the 1990s
There are some good things about getting older – the confidence, the money, the freedom (sort of) – but there are undoubtedly more than a few things that are less than savory about the aging process.
One of those things is the ability of younger people – teenagers in particular – to make you feel positively ancient without even really trying.
Which is exactly what’s happening on Twitter, where a bunch of Gen Z kids are nostalgic for a simpler time…that was a Millennial’s childhood.
Here are 9 of those posts, so get your dentures and your hair dye ready.
9. I know exactly what they’re talking about.
I’m nostalgic for those vibes, too.
8. Weirdos are what made the 90s great.
I’m just sayin’.
7. Literally everything.
Except the internet.
6. Ouch.
We all have to get there one day, my friend. If you’re lucky.
5. I mean we had great music.
And all of the flannel shirts.
4. Keep wishing, kid.
You’ll never be as lucky as we were, though.
3. It was quite a ride.
Come and sit at my knee, young one.
2. Some things would be worth going back for.
Lots of stuff is better now, though.
1. Those were the days.
They have passed us by now, child.
I don’t know, I miss the 90s too, so I kind of get it.
What do you miss the most about the 90s? Tell us about it in the comments!

Nostalgic Things You’ll Remember if You Grew Up in the 1990s
Oh, the 1990s. It was a great time to be a pre-teen and teenager. I thought I was so cool and loved expressing myself with the trends of that time.
Here are 10 images that will take you right back to the ’90s.
1. Elephant pants
Why oh why was this a thing? They were cool at the time, though, I swear!
2. More elephant pants
I didn’t have a pair of these, but my friend did and the bottoms were always filthy and ripped from dragging on the floor!
I remember this catalogue and was convinced I needed a bunch of the items in it (I didn’t).
4. Fashion forward
I remember in ballet my classmate always had the coolest bobbles on her bun just like these! And I had about four of those chokers.
5. Bath beads
I used to play with these in the store while my mom shopped. They looked and felt so cool!
6. Coolest pencil case
Back to School shopping required a new Spacemaker pencil case every year.
7. UGH!
It’s a wonder my eyebrows grew back, to be honest. I seldom plucked them, but when I did I went really overboard!
8. Dial up…
I can still see each part of the image slowly coming down as I waited patiently. Now I can wait for anything!
9. Butterfly clips
Don’t forget to keep two pieces of your hair hanging down on the side of your face.
10. Vests, vests, vests
To be fair, these were at least better than the applique vests. Remember those?
Sometimes thinking back on the ’90s makes me cringe, but I usually just smile.

You Might Have Grown Up in the 1990s if These Scenarios Make You Nostalgic
We’re around 40 now, but those who grew up in the ’90s still have a fair amount of nostalgia for the decade.
If these scenarios give you the warm fuzzies of nostalgia, then you were definitely a child of the 90s.
Like WWI before it, the era of the 90s was on the cusp of so much new technology, which would be adopted quickly and advance at lightning speed.
It’s fun to think back on some of the common place items that have all but disappeared.
1. Space travel meant the Shuttle
Sure the new rockets are sleek and fancy and touch-screen.
But there was something undeniably special about the spaceship that took off like a rocket and landed like a plane.
2. Cameras with actual film in them
Sure photographers and artists still use film, but the rest of us have basically gone digital.
Now we can take a MILLION shots of the same exact thing, and never print out a single one!
With one of these bad boys, you just better hope you click fast to get a good shot of that Space Shuttle lifting off.
3. Books filled with phone numbers
What time is that movie showing? Look up the theater in the phone book and call.
Want a pizza? Unless you have a Pizza Hut flyer–check the phone book. (And OMG – remember free personal pan pizzas if you read enough books?)
If only there were a centralized search tool with all the phone numbers AND the other information so you didn’t even have to call…
4. Along came the internet
Remember the initial excitement of hearing the dial-up modem start to go? And then the boredom as you waited for it to connect…
As soon as it finally did, your mom needed you to get off the internet because she looked up a number in the phone book and needed to make a call…
With the widespread adoption of the internet, communication leapfrogged into the new millennium.
5. You could phone home from anywhere, for 25 cents
Remember pay phones? I think the last time I saw a working one was in New Zealand, but before that, it was definitely the movie theater in my home town when I was 16.
Sometimes they even came with their own phone books!
6. When you called, people would answer
And then they invented answering machines and caller-ID and suddenly, we could screen our calls if we wanted to.
Sure in 90s we mostly still rolled the dice–unlike now. Who even answers their phone anymore?
7. Conference calling was a luxury
If you wanted to talk to 2 friends at once, you had to convince your parents to pay for 3-way calling. Of course they wouldn’t, because it was too expensive, so then you had to invite the friend with the rich parents.
Now you don’t even opt in–people stick your number in group texts and your phone explodes for hours.
8. Going to the mall was like planning a covert operation
You had to plan where to meet and what time and god forbid someone be late. And then if you split up, you better have a plan for when and where to be if you wanted a ride home!
Otherwise you’ll be looking for a pay phone and scrounging for quarters.
9. Thank goodness they invented cell phones
We had one in our car in the late 90s, just for emergencies. You couldn’t really use it, or you’d go over your minutes and get slammed with a massive overage fee!
Going out of town? Take it, I guess, but for heaven’s sake don’t use it or you’ll rack up roaming charges! Basically, it was for emergencies and the Snake game.
Media of the 90s was pretty great too. Remember learning how to program the VCR?
10. Tapes or CDs: the eternal question
The two co-existed side-by-side for awhile towards the end of the decade. Of course you WANTED CDs. But tapes were so much cheaper.
And also, did you have a discman? Or a CD player in the car?
We couldn’t quite give up those cassette tapes because no one could record to CDs yet, and anyway “mix CD” doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.
11. Oops–recorded over again!
Speaking of mix tapes, how about taping your favorite episodes of Star Trek: the Next Generation? Just me?
But how many times did you accidentally record over something important? (I meant to keep that one!) Or record the wrong channel and instead, you got the 9:00 news?
12. Be kind: Rewind
And speaking of tapes, who didn’t love going to Blockbuster on a Friday night? The new releases might cost more, but if you rented 6, the seventh one was free.
Just don’t be late returning it and rack up all the late fees.
Toys and games were different in the 90s too.
13. Blowing the dust out of Nintendo cartridges
Videos weren’t all you could rent from Blockbuster, after all. You could rent video games, too!
And if you put it in, and it didn’t play quite right? No worries!
Just blow in the cartridge, blow in the machine, clear away the cobwebs and it worked as good as new.
14. You know what dysentery is because you died of it on the Oregon Trail
When asked what we wanted on our tombstone, a popular answer in my school computer class was “Pepperoni and cheese”.
Why did we use to specify cheese though? The world may never know…
15. The loss of a Tamagatchi pet hit you like it was real
They were real to us. They were ours, and we loved them. We didn’t want to let them down.
16. At camp, we made tie dye
It was a legitimate arts and crafts project.
Every single one of these takes me back to my childhood. If these situations ring true for you, then you definitely grew up in the 90s.
Which ones hit hardest for you? What did we leave out? Let us know in the comments.

Things That 1990’s Kids Remember Doing at One Point and Never Again
So, let’s have some real talk… this one hit me right in the feels because I am very much a 90s kid and I remember ALL of these.
Remember Blockbuster? Remember Nokia phones? Remember ALL THE GREAT THINGS!?!
Here are fifteen things you unwittingly did for the last time and never even thought twice about.
1. Used your T9.
I legit still miss those Nokias.
2. Watching the news to see that cancellation…
The only time I watched the news as a kid.
3. Tune in TV…
Man… we actually had to be in front of the TV at a certain time!
4. Those balls… gotta clean ’em…
This was oddly satisfying.
5. Make sure you had batteries for that CD player…
You gotta make sure ya got your tunes!
6. Physical media was bae!
Pour one out for our physical media…
7. Oh man… not crying… a lot…
I mean… this is going to happen to anybody… so I consider this emotional blackmail!
8. How’s your SIM family doing…
You all doing okay?
9. Blockbuster… RIP.
I am so gutted by this.
10. Oh snap! There were movie times in papers!
I remember the day these left and it was a bad day.
11. Remember digital cameras?
Do people even have these anymore?
12. AIM logging in with that modem sound…
Ahhhh…. the memories…
13. Cassettes had lyrics inside of them…
I REALLY miss this.
14. Directions on paper?
My grandmother still does this, though, so…
15. Illegal song downloads.
Did you all really think this was gonna last? Borrowing? HAHAHAHAHA… you f**king people…
How many of these did you do back in the day? Oh, all of them? Of course you did!
Share some bit of nostalgia in the comments. We love to read that stuff.
Thanks, fam!

Things That Millennials Did for the Last Time
Where are all the Millennials at? Gen Y (as in “Why were we dealt this crappy hand?”) is in the house.
Only true Millennials can appreciate these 11 things Millennials did, that we will never do again. In some cases, for the better, in others…well, let’s just say kids today can’t appreciate how much simpler things were back in the day.
1. Take the packaging off of a brand new CD:
Such a satisfying feeling. That plastic was slippery.
2. Play outside with friends:
A little part of me just died inside.
3. Replace dead batteries w/ partially used batteries:
You want to get your moneys worth!
4. Log into AIM:
*sound of a door opening*
5. Log into Myspace:
Who’s in your top 8?
6. Use T9 to send a text:
I don’t miss this.
7. Find a toy in your box of cereal:
When did plastic spoons that change color in milk stop being cool?!
8. Burn a Mix CD:
Mix CDs were the best gifts.
9. Print out your MapQuest directions:
Mom wouldn’t let me leave home without this.
10. Watch a VHS tape:
Jokes on you! I still have all of my bootleg VHS tapes!
11. REWIND that VHS tape:
True dat.
Now I’m feeling all the feels.
You whipper snappers may have Disney+ but I had an entire collection of bootleg VHS tapes. Pus Myspace wasn’t nearly as addictive as social media is today, and you certainly didn’t want your parents getting one. Ah, oh well. At least we have the memories.
My fellow Millennials, which one of these do you relate to most?
Let us know in the comments!
