Things That Millennials Did for the Last Time

Where are all the Millennials at? Gen Y (as in “Why were we dealt this crappy hand?”) is in the house.

Only true Millennials can appreciate these 11 things Millennials did, that we will never do again. In some cases, for the better, in others…well, let’s just say kids today can’t appreciate how much simpler things were back in the day.

1. Take the packaging off of a brand new CD:

Such a satisfying feeling. That plastic was slippery.

2. Play outside with friends:

A little part of me just died inside.

3. Replace dead batteries w/ partially used batteries:

You want to get your moneys worth!

4. Log into AIM:

5. Log into Myspace:

Who’s in your top 8?

6. Use T9 to send a text:

I don’t miss this.

7. Find a toy in your box of cereal:

When did plastic spoons that change color in milk stop being cool?!

8. Burn a Mix CD:

Mix CDs were the best gifts.

9. Print out your MapQuest directions:

Mom wouldn’t let me leave home without this.

10. Watch a VHS tape:

Jokes on you! I still have all of my bootleg VHS tapes!

11. REWIND that VHS tape:

True dat.

Now I’m feeling all the feels.

You whipper snappers may have Disney+ but I had an entire collection of bootleg VHS tapes. Pus Myspace wasn’t nearly as addictive as social media is today, and you certainly didn’t want your parents getting one. Ah, oh well. At least we have the memories.

My fellow Millennials, which one of these do you relate to most?

Here Are Some Things That Only Millennials Will Appreciate

I may be on the cusp of Millennial-hood, but I’ll claim this identity proudly. Let the world hate us. At least we have brunch.

Now that we’ve killed just about everything worthwhile (sorry American cheese), it’s time to sit back and revel in our us-ness.

Here’s 10 things that only Millennials will appreciate.

1. Ah, yes:

Is it bad that I still don’t know what this is?

2. Checking movie times in the newspaper:

Remember print media?

3. Why?

Because we could.

4.Using LimeWire to download music:

We were so cool.

5. Renting movies from Blockbuster:

This used to be a staple of my daily life.

6. Listening to new music through headphones in the store:

Going to the store to buy music. What a time.

7. When it seemed every teacher had these in their class:

Or those strawberry candies in the strawberry wrapping.

8. I’m not going to tell you what that is:

If you’re truly a Millennial, you’ll know.

9. Always rewind before returning to the store:

It’s just common curtesy.

10. Landlines:

I genuinely do miss the feeling of a REAL phone in my hand. Not a tiny computer.

The best thing about being a Millennial isn’t the crushing student loan debt or the fact that people think we’re lazy despite the fact that a lot of us have multiple jobs just to get by. The best part of being a Millennial is the fact that we knew the world before.

We straddle he gap between millenniums. So we can appreciate a VHS tape just as much as the newest Apple product.

Which one of these do you relate to the most? Let us know in the comments!

‘Gremlins’ Is Coming Back to Theaters This December

Gremlins hit theaters in 1984, and it’s safe to say that the horror/comedy film has become a cult classic that a whole lot of people watch around Christmas.

Let’s all have a refresher and watch the original trailer, okay?

If you’re a fan of this fun, freaky, fright-fest, I have great news for you! Gremlins is returning to theaters for one week only: December 5 – December 11.

It makes sense, because the film is set during Christmastime and some consider it a “holiday movie” (omg that scene…you know that one I’m talking about).

If you’ve never seen Joe Dante’s Gremlins, let’s get all caught up. A man buys his son a gift at a store in Chinatown. What does he buy? A ‘mogwai’, an adorable little creature that comes with a few rules. The shopkeeper tells the man not to expose the creature to bright light or water…and don’t feed it after midnight.

Well, you can probably imagine what happens next. I’ll leave the rest up in the air, just in case you’ve never seen it before.

The film will screen in 4DX, which Regal describes as “immersive cinematic experience presents the future of the movie industry.” Or, as one website put it, “4DX at Regal is the ultimate experience involving motion chairs and special effects like wind and rain.”

Which sounds legitimately awesome.

Be sure to check out the Regal Cinemas page to see if and where Gremlins will be playing by you in December.

Do you remember the first time you saw Gremlins? Tell us about it in the comments! And remember, whatever you do, don’t feed them after midnight!

This Is Why Germans See David Hasselhoff as a Symbol of the Fall of the Berlin Wall

It’s been 30 years…

1989 seems like a long time ago, but this year is still recent in the memories of the people of Berlin, Germany. Until 1989, the Berlin Wall divided the city and its citizens, with those on the east living in Communism, and those on the west in Capitalism. The wall was was heavily policed, and attempting to cross was a deadly act of courage.

Thankfully the city (and the country) was eventually reunited. Many factors contributed to the fall of the Berlin Wall, and, weirdly, to some Germans David Hasselhoff is a symbol of its removal.

Yes, the guy we best remember for a being the hot 1980s super-stud from Baywatch has a special place in modern German history.

We may know Hasselhoff best for being a fake lifeguard, but Germans associate him with their freedom.

That’s because, in addition to acting, Hasselhoff also sings. His first album, 1985’s Night Rocker, was pretty successful when it was came out, but he became iconic in Germany in 1988 when he released a song called “Looking for Freedom,” in an album with the same name.

Though it was released in June 1989, many Germans were still listening to it when the wall came down several months later, on November 9, 1989.

To be clear, the star insists that he’s not responsible for the fall of the Berlin Wall in any way.

But it’s logical that some German fans at the time associate his song with the momentous event in history because of its timing.

Hasselhoff has spoken to various media about his memories of this era. He told TIME he was moved by his experience touring in Germany in 1989. When he was asked to perform, he said, he’d only do it if he would be allowed to perform at the wall, WHICH HE DID.

Of the experience, he said,

“I remember it like it was yesterday. There was a camera on the crane, and I wasn’t playing to the camera. Usually you play to the camera. I just kept bending over and playing to the crowd because I was so moved by the experience.”

No matter what Hasselhoff says about his connection to the Berlin Wall, it’s clear his German fans will always have a special place for him in their hearts because he was the man who sang about freedom.

Is there anything that surprised you about David Hasselhoff and his special place as a pop culture icon in Germany? Let us know here!

Sony Has a New Walkman to Commemorate Its 40th Anniversary

It must’ve been about 1984 when my older brother Rich got a Walkman for Christmas. I was mesmerized by it. Of course, I wasn’t allowed to touch it, but I did admire it from afar until I got my own a few years later and started amassing a killer tape collection featuring hand-me-downs from Rich like AC/DC, The Ramones, and other bands that warped my young mind.

But I digress. We should all be excited that Sony announced it is releasing a Walkman to celebrate the original Walkman’s 40th anniversary. The original Sony TPS-L2 debuted in 1979 and quickly changed the electronics game. It was the first truly portable personal tape player, and it quickly became a staple of music lovers everywhere.

At the IFA electronics trade show in Berlin last week, Sony announced it is releasing a new version of the groundbreaking Walkman. The new Sony NW-A100TPS Walkman looks pretty amazing and is powered by Android.

It features a cassette tape interface, and the case has a 40th-anniversary logo on the back. It also has an S-Master HX digital amplifier to give listeners high-res audio, a processor to give compressed audio tracks a higher quality, and a vinyl processor that gives digital tracks a vinyl-like quality.

It also has 26 hours of battery life.

Here’s a video of the new Sony Walkman in action.

I don’t know about you, but my nostalgia just kicked into high gear, and I’m gonna need to get my hands on one of these!

Exciting!
