Brie Larson Lays the Smackdown on Trolls Who Think Captain Marvel Should “Smile More”

After seeing the success of Wonder Woman and Gal Godot, it’s only natural that Brie Larson and Marvel probably felt like they had a very high standard to live up to with the release of the first trailer for Captain Marvel (currently scheduled to be released in March of 2019).

After all, Marvel has never done a female-led superhero movie (but that’s a topic for another day). They were probably holding their collective breaths as the trailer sailed out into the world, and even though it was largely well-received and drummed up some well-deserved excitement for the film, there were those who just couldn’t help themselves.

They thought Captain Marvel should smile more. Behold.

Um. What? Why? Should Wonder Woman have smiled more? NOOOOOOOOOOPE. Both she and Captain Marvel have bigger things on their plates – like saving the whole world – than worrying about the current state of their mouth on their face.

But don’t worry, y’all. Brie Larson is like, a real life superhero, because she’s got this. In response to the idiotic tweets above, she photoshopped smiles on the faces of male superheroes just to prove how misogynistic people are being about her stoic expressions.

Yes.

And she had this to say in her IG story:

“Breaking news: You can be you. That means you can smile or not. You can be strong in the ways you want to be. You can own who you are. If anyone tells you different don’t trust them.”

For what it’s worth, there were also plenty of emotionally intelligent, woke people on Twitter who backed her up, too.

So, you know. Not all is lost.

I don’t know about you, but Brie Larson’s response on social media has made me more excited for the movie and not less. Come on, March!
