Here’s How You Can Spot Bed Bugs on Airplanes

If you’re traveling this summer, you need to keep an eye out for bed bugs. Having the misfortune of getting attacked by bed bugs in a hotel (or maybe even your own house), is gross and uncomfortable.

Well, now those disgusting little insects have found their way onto airplanes.

The best thing you can do when you board a flight and take your seat is to keep an eye out for the buggers (and alert the crew immediately). There are other precautions you can take as well to avoid an annoying and potentially painful couple of days after your flight: Bring your own pillow and blanket if you’re planning on snoozing throughout your journey. Also, bed bugs can’t bite through your clothes, so you should wear long sleeves and pants. You can also buy and bring your own seat covers if you want to take extra care.

Passengers have been complaining lately about bed bugs on flights and have been leaving their voyages all bit up and comfortable. The fact is that bed bugs can be easily carried from hotel rooms to the airport and then onto planes, so it isn’t too much of a stretch that this would eventually happen.

You usually won’t notice bed bug bites until a couple of days later, so it’s wise to be safe just in case. And if you’re actually getting eaten alive in your airplane seat, chances are YOU’RE the one who brought the bed bugs on your flight. So after you notify the flight attendants, you should probably call your hotel as well.

Let’s hope all of our future flights are bug-free!

The Newest Thing to Baffle the Internet is The “Confetti” Illusion

Our brains have evolved with a thirst for knowledge. As humans, we absolutely love to get tricked – at least by illusions. Anytime we learn something new, or encounter a situation that forces us to use our brain in an unexpected way, a sense of excitement is triggered. That’s why things like the “Blue/Gold” dress and other optical illusions gain so much viral traction online.

For example, take the image below:

This illusion, created by Professor David Novick from the University of Texas at El Paso, has been doing the rounds online and stumping people everywhere. It’s based on the Munker-White’s Illusion, which is used to demonstrate the imperfection in our perception of color. When you look at the image from far away, the circles all look like they’re different colors. Seen up close, however, it’s clear that they are all the same.

This is because when you place a solid-colored shape behind bars of different colors, those bars begin to influence the way we see what’s between them. Our brain is trying to fill in the gaps with whatever makes the most sense. That’s why a pink circle can look like it’s tinted with shades of green, purple, or yellow.

Interestingly (and somewhat troublingly), a recent Harvard study found that colors might be even more subjective than we think. Researchers found that participants were pretty terrible at telling blue and purple dots apart, and can even change their minds about what they saw.

It just goes to show: seeing isn’t always believing.

Employee Misses Work While Her Son Was on Life Support and Boss Tries to Fire Her

A story went viral recently and for good reason. In fact, the story grew so quickly because it’s completely insane. After a woman named Crystal Reynolds Fisher shared her encounter with her boss at a gas station in Michigan, people were shocked at how heartless her manager was. You can file this story under: Heartless Humans.

Here’s what happened: Fisher’s son is on life support, and she informed her boss she wouldn’t be coming into work – like any person would in that circumstance. Take a look at the text exchange.

And then, with an inordinate amount of audacity, her boss said she would be at work if her own child was on life support.

Pretty unbelievable. After the story went viral, PS Food Mart, the gas station where Fisher works, came out with a statement about the situation.

Ms. Fisher still has a job and the manager was shown the door (for good reason). It’s nice to see the bigwigs at the company stepped in and did the right thing.

The Unluckiest Person on the Internet Might Be This Redditor

Embarrassing moments, we’ve all had our share of them. In fact, just this morning, I completed an entire breakfast order at my neighborhood deli before realizing my fly was unzipped the entire time.

That was indeed humiliating, however, it’s got absolutely nothing on Redditor TheFlyingPigSquadron‘s hilarious series of mishaps that started with a routine shampooing in the shower and ended with her in the ER. After reading her whole story, I can’t help but wonder if she walked under a ladder on her way to the shower

Redditor TheFlyingPigSquadron shared her recent tragic (but hilarious) shower incident online, and it quickly went viral.

As if that wasn’t enough, the story actually continues…

Thankfully, her doctors are wiser than she is and took precautions to help her avoid any more accidents. It’s the kind of thing you need to do when your patient just can’t seem to avoid getting in trouble.

Apparently, this is somewhat of a lifestyle for the young lady in question. The internet demanded more stories about her misfortunes, and she delivered.

Thank you, TheFlyingPigSquadron, for those glorious tales of misfortune. Also, take care of yourself…
