People Discuss the Differences Between High School and College Teachers

When I was in high school, college was really built up as a place that was going to be super serious. Everything you do here is going to matter there, and it’s going to be TOUGH, so if you can’t hack it in here, you’re never gonna survive a university, and if you don’t survive a university, you’re never gonna be successful.

Turned out, all of that was wrong.

My high school was academically WAY more rigorous than my college, no one ever for the rest of my life cared about my GPA, and despite graduating with honors I managed not to be successful.

So take THAT, high school.

People Share Their Lovely Older Pets with the World

One of the best things any human can experience in this life is the bond we form with our pets.

And one of the most heartbreaking realities is how short their lives tend to be compared to ours.

It feels like some cruel irony – an absolutely perfect and unconditionally loving companion who only gets to stick around for about about a fifth as long as do. But that short span also makes the time we do have with them all the more precious, and to be enjoyed.

Dog Mullets Are In, So Get on Board!

I don’t know what you want from me. I’m just here to deliver the news that we’re giving our dogs mullets now, and there’s nothing you can do about it, so you might as well accept it.

I’m not here to judge anyone doing their job.

I’m bad at everything. Seriously, name a thing, I’ll tell you exactly why I’m bad at it. For instance, I just told you to name something even though I can’t hear you at all, so I’m bad at having conversations. It just goes on and on like that.

I say all this so you understand I’m not throwing shade at the people behind the mistakes in these photos. I couldn’t possibly. I’m so bad at throwing. And I wouldn’t even know how to pick shade up in the first place.

These Things Are Only for Wealthy Pets, Apparently

I’ve never met a dog who seemed particularly picky. Not even about food.

In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever met a dog who was not full-on, b**ls to the walls THRILLED to be eating the exact same bowl of dry food he’d been getting every single day for his entire existence.

They’re really not that difficult to please, is the point. So one might well wonder why a company like Home Concept, which is based in Russia, might offer an entire array of pet beds that are way, way too expensive.

What animal is impressed by these? How is this a thing? Look at these prices (converted to USD.)

This Midwife Meets People Where They Are with Reproductive Health TikTok Videos

Menstruation can be an ever-complicated and mysterious thing.

Even to us women.

That’s probably why a TikTok midwife went viral for videos explaining the anatomy and mechanics of childbirth.

It started with a silly, brief video about a speculum during quarantine, and then her following exploded.

Midwife Sarah Pringle, @midwifemama, has been using TikTok to educate the masses, including her more than 700 thousand followers, for the past year.

As she told BuzzFeed:

“I posted a funny speculum TikTok and started to gain followers. I realized that people want to know about their bodies and their health. This led me to create educational content featuring common office procedures, women’s health products, and the basics of childbirth.”

She’s made dozens of videos–enough to support a 9th grade Health class for the entire semester.

Borzoi + German Shepherd = Giraffe? A Family of Long-Necked Dogs Say…“Maybe.”

My dog is a rescue, so we don’t really know what all is in there.

She’s a smallish cattle dog, with terrier traits, and based on her teeth, our vet said, “daddy must have been a traveling salesman.”

But even when you know your dog’s breeding history, or think you do, there can be surprising results.

Meet Gatsby, the two-year-old Borzoi and German Shepherd mix.

Gatsby’s family told Bored Panda that they fell in love with him immediately, even before he was old enough to leave the litter.

“In 2019, I decided our family needed a new member. I stumbled across someone who had a litter of pups from a Borzoi father and German shepherd mother. They had a wonderful, unique look that I was immediately drawn to.
On August 19th, 2019, we took the 3-hour trip to meet the pups. First look at Gatsby, and I knew he was the right one, and the look he gave me, I knew he thought I was the right one.”

Turns out, they were more right about the “unique look” than they realized.

The pooch has a very sweet face, but as he has grown up from puppy to ginormous full-sized canine, one particular feature stands out.

Gatsby has an unusually long neck.

“We returned one month later when he was old enough to be adopted and brought him home. I wanted to teach him many things, and the bond between us has grown stronger than I could have imagined. Today we enjoy parkour, blood tracing, balance training, nose work, and just taking long walks together. I decided early to document our life together through videos on YouTube, regular Instagram postings, and recently took our life to TikTok. We have many adventures planned in the future and are expecting a new brother for Gatsby soon. Most folks claim that he has giraffe DNA in there somewhere, but in truth, it is most likely mythical creature DNA some have hinted at.”

Now, pretty much everyone is familiar with what the German Shepherd breed, so I thought maybe the Borzoi was responsible for the long neck.

As I soon discovered, Borzoi have extremely long legs, and although they are included on lists of long-necked breeds–relative to the proportions of the rest of their body, I don’t think their necks are unusually long, not like Gatsby’s.

Hotels and Foster Dogs Are a Match Made in Heaven

As fun as it can be to travel, being away from home can be hard, as well.

So hotels try to do things to make you feel as comfortable as you would be at home:
Free wine in the lobby, hot popcorn. Cookies.

But one hotel in Mississippi is going the extra mile to make its guests feel welcome–and to help out the local canine population too.

The Home2 Suites by Hilton located in D’Iberville, Mississippi, just north of Biloxi, has been piloting a program called “Fostering Hope” since 2018.

Together with the Humane Society of South Mississippi, the hotel helps dogs find their forever home.

One at a time, each lucky doggo gets to visit the hotel.

Dog friendly guests are invited and encouraged to interact with the dogs.

According to Mental Floss:

They can take the dog for a walk and feed them during their stay. They’re even allowed to bring the pet into their hotel room overnight.

So far, more than 60 dogs have been adopted since Home2 Suites began fostering them in October 2018.

It’s a brilliant plan! People don’t even know they want a dog, until they fall in love with a specific dog.

They don’t even know they have room for a dog, until it’s too late because the dog has already taken up residence in their hearts.

Since 2018, the program has been a huge success.

In their first year, they found homes for about 30 dogs.

And things may have slowed a little due to the pandemic, but Home2 Suites aren’t deterred.

They’re looking to roll out this program in more locations across the US soon.

Times When Kids Really Did Say the Darndest Things

Kids say the funniest things…sometimes…

Like the time 5-year-old Bindi Irwin met her baby brother Robert, and decided that he should be called Brian “for short.”

Well back in January, feminist author @JessicaValenti tweeted about an incident that happened when her child was about that same age:

It was a great metaphor for life, and it spawned a whole thread of users telling funny things that their own children had said.

A lot of users focused on how children don’t pull punches, sometimes being brutal without even meaning to.

Picture book author Pat Zietlow Miller shared a time when her young daughter innocently cut her to the quick:

And another user shared her child’s response to her own midlife crisis hairdo.

Kids, man. Brutal, and brutally honest.

Sometimes they’re just trying to be helpful though, like when Heidi Hodges’ daughter overruled her little brother’s kindness.

And we all know what it’s like to be seen as the not-fun parent, but I love this user’s response.

I guess it would be way too mean to respond, “I know Dad’s the fun parent, just like your brother is the fun child.”

Yeah, you’re right. Parents have to be the parent, fun or otherwise.

Some of the one-liners parents shared were just hilarious, liked this one from Bonnie Jean:

Use the Force, Luke. Be the armadillo.

I love it.

And you know, it makes sense, because kids just really love animals.

So comparisons to animals are usually a compliment:

Until they try to turn you into one:

Kids, as we all know, also like to eat weird things.

(Let’s hope this isn’t why the 5-year-old wanted to turn her sister into a fish…)

And this kid… The shade.

But I mean, he has a point.

And just… wow.

Weird eating habits aside, sometimes even the best kids will misbehave.

As parents, you just have to teach them how to say they’re sorry.

Even if it makes you want to bust out laughing.

And when life gets them down:

Teach them to look on the bright side.
